A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Mile High Beat Down

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 15, 2019

A double header in Colorado. I can’t envision an acceptable outcome. I mean, mayyyyybe you say Smarge has been pitching well, he somehow keeps it going and DRod feeds off that in Game 2?

Also, the Rockies have been in Colorado playing. I always say they are most dangerous in that altitude when they’ve played a series or two there and are waiting for fresh meat off the plane. If Colorado and their opponent are STARTING the series together in Colorado (in other words, Colorado is coming home off a road trip) things are a little more fair. The visual memory index numbers I look at daily prove this. Granted, we’re just talking about one day and I guess anything can happen on a given day but……

We get blasted today and recovering from this day long shellacking might set them back 2 weeks making it a lot easier for the housewives on facebook to absorb the blows Z will be delivering them at the trade deadline….

Was following discussion re: out pitches by Beede and Anderson on my new phone (!) last night. Flemming did say he didn’t think Anderson had a go to. However, column on yesterday game nbcsportsbayarea talked about how often Beede is using slider these days, 15-20 times a game.

I also read long story on espn.com about how extensive youth b- ball is killing young players these days. Lot of disturbing stuff, including MDs doing ACL surgeries on middle school and younger kids playing one sport year round, rehabbing from injury, going back out there and hurting yada yada. Sad that almost all sports (v-ball soccer etc), and not just for guys either, have turned into this

I am so happy you got a phone. Best news of the day!

ha thx. I can follow along thread at work kicking back when it’s slow though cell phones on sales floor are definite no no. don’t think I could figure out how to log in and post, probably a good thing.
Um how do you carry cell phones around? See gals and some guys in store with wallet type leather cases with phone on one side, flip over section with credit cards and ID. ?

Rox are 14-9 vs. the “fresh meat” when they’ve already been at Coors for a series, including 1-1 vs. the Giants.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 15, 2019 at 7:40 am

      .608. what’s the run diff?

      • Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on July 15, 2019 at 7:58 am

173-154, plus-19. The winning margin was built mainly on a 7-game win streak from May 27-June 2 vs. D-Backs and Blue Jays. Since then, they’re 2-4. Also. Rox have scored 10 or more runs eight times in these games (6-2 record), and have given up 10+ five times (2-3 record).

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 15, 2019 at 8:03 am

great info, thanks. If you have a second can you look up the Game 1 numbers? You seem to know how to do this or I’d do it myself

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 15, 2019 at 7:56 am

it would also be interesting to see the record in Game 1 of those series. That’s when the VMI is strongest in the favor of the Rockies. It goes down in Game 2, 3 etc…

      • Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on July 15, 2019 at 8:03 am

Rox are 5-3 in Game 1 of those series. One of the losses was 14-4 to the Giants on May 7.

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 15, 2019 at 8:06 am

        thanks for the info

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 15, 2019 at 8:08 am

the Rockies are +135 giving 1.5 runs today in game 1. If I were a betting man I’d hammer that because it seems like free money but the numbers you’re posting suggest it’s not a slam dunk. Of course, I use VMI a little differently for daily fantasy. It will still be interesting to see how today plays out.

      • Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on July 15, 2019 at 8:15 am

I don’t know if this another factor against the Giants: A series almost always starts with a night game, so with a game 1 doubleheader today the Giants have a few less hours to get acclimated to the altitude. I would hope Smardz was sent to Denver a day ahead.

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 15, 2019 at 8:23 am

visual memory index says it doesn’t matter if it’s a day or night game, the first game is the issue. But agreed, it’s the same for pitchers as it is for hitters so if Smarge got sent to Colorado early that would help him.

  5. willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 15, 2019 at 8:11 am

OK, IF Giants are trading as much of the valued pitching as they can, then here are my questions for what you want in return:
what do you want their priorities to be in order of importance?
Is there a specific position on the field that needs to be addressed ASAP?
    Speed/OB or power in OF?
If park is changed to be more hitter friendly, would LH/RH matter?
How do you replace what you trade away?

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 15, 2019 at 8:16 am

      1) the order of importance is on finding hitters with power
      2) If park is changed, I don’t care about what side they hit from
      3) You are replacing what you trade away with pieces for the future. If you’re asking how do you replace the production TODAY just call up someone from AAA. This year has been over since Day 1 (and they have been in last place since Day 1).

  6. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 15, 2019 at 8:15 am

Shit’s gonna happen either way. I just think it would be funny as shit if this team somehow jumped over 3-4 teams in the next 16 games.

I think there’s better than a 0.3% chance of it happening, but then again, every time I think they are ready to roll, they trip over their pitching mounds.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 15, 2019 at 8:18 am

part of the reason the number is 0.9% has nothing to do with the Giants. It is the things that would have to happen with the other 8 teams. All 8 almost mathematically can’t lose that many games, they play each other too many times. ie, when one wins the other loses but when one loses the other wins. The % is reflective of that.

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 15, 2019 at 8:20 am

in other words, leap frogging 3 or 4 is not the issue percentage-wise. Leap frogging EIGHT is the issue. that’s why it’s 0.9%

  7. Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 15, 2019 at 8:25 am

basically ALL 8 teams in front of them would have to fall apart and the Giants would need to play close to .700 ball the rest of the way. Likely? About 0.9% likely…..

  8. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 15, 2019 at 8:40 am

The fact that all these teams play each other also ensures that no one runs away either. If one team gets hot . . .

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 15, 2019 at 8:50 am

It’s not one team getting hot. When 8 are in front of you, oh whatever I’m tired of repeating myself. It’s 0.9% for a reason. You guys want to discount the math that’s fine, have at it

  9. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 15, 2019 at 8:41 am
