D-Rod Encore
Another big game for DRod to show last start wasn’t all VMI related. Wind coming in a little, humidity down, maybe he gets a little park help and surprises us again.
My buddy Luke, one of my main men in Portland, texted me this while watching the game last night:
“His stuff needs to move off the plate. Everything is on or right around. Big league guys will feast on that stuff. He needs to get them chasing shit that looks like a strike. His shit is up and over the plate. He’s missing his spots by a mile. Posey sets up outside and the pitch is in.”
I trust Luke on this and he explained why Beede’s stuff, while excellent, is just ending up in the wrong spot. Hopefully Young can help him fix that.
I’m down with what Loo said about Beede. So if Young can help Haiti’s Space Program, it follows he can help Beede.
Haistronauts?…
Beede’s fastball is straight as a string, like Musclehead’s was. I assume its a four seamer, it has so little movement. If it’s a two seamer, he needs to figure out a different grip or something to make it move more. BTW, Musclehead broke his nose yesterday in some kind of Nats weight room accident. The guy is a certified doofus…
Ironically, DRod normally can control his stuff with pinpoint accuracy . . . Unfortunately, his “stuff” is mediocre, albeit, he does have 5 pitches to choose from.
Yes your friend is right. He can’t get close enough to on the black or down and away and hitters/umps ignore it. then when he’s behind he’s too much in hitter’s happy zone. Ground balls and Ks are good bombs given up flat awful. Funny both Beede and Suarez did well in PCL, notorious hitters league. Up here, no.
OK re: Loo’s HR list. Seattle and Toronto who both suck are in top 10 Pads (same) 12th. Meanwhile Cle 19th TB 21st STL 24th. One of those teams is in first place and others right there. So HRs are only a part of winning, and don’t necessarily guarantee anything.
Yanks led AL last year, Dodgers NL and Sox zapped the both of them with quality pitching. I have strong feeling Twins and Yanks are going down this year too…betting on LA to win WS hasn’t worked out too well last 30 years either.
Nothing can help “Broadway Beede” now, his last 6 starts if you can call them that, 27 2/3 innings 25 earned runs 11 bombs allowed with an era of 8.23!!The guys a head case with no clue how to be a consistent big league pitcher, shit if it isn’t the HR’s it’s walking freakin pitchers that start big rallies too!!!
Giants CANNOT continue wasting any games right now and with Beede it’s a total WASTE!! Sac train now! D-Rod&Anderson can handle it for now until Cueto returns…
It was the relievers as well walking guys. Lead off walks kill us every time.
Maddening.
Cueto in Modesto last night pitching for San Jose. Got cuffed a bit, though got around 60 pitches in…
“Cueto, who was recovering from Tommy John Surgery he had last August, threw 4 1/3 innings, allowing five runs (four earned), while striking out three and walking one”.

wouldn’t you liken this to ST though? He’s trying to build up arm strength and work on getting comfortable throwing different pitches and less concerned with results, I would guess. Chron said next start in Sac…one after I think could be for SF.
Yes, agreed. He would need at least another two starts to get his S together, IMO, to be somewhat effective in an MLB game. It looks now like it’ll be problematic to put him on the 40 on or before Aug 31. Giants may be out of it for sure by then anyway, unless they go on a streak starting now…
Al Jackson died. Like Roger Craig he once lost 20 games for awful Mets teams. Lou Brock used to joke he hit one of his longest bombs ever off Jackson. Ron Darling gave him lot of credit in his books for how much he helped him turn around his career when he was Tidewater pitching coach. Focused on ramping up his conditioning program, refining his location and developing proper grip on secondary pitches that he used throughout his career. Darling’s books are good read for pitching (and other) insights he offers about his broadcasting days after ML career was over.
Brock is one of only 3 guys to hit a ball into the “black” at the Polo Grounds. Pretty sure the other 2 are Aaron & Adcock, because I’ve heard it a million times. I wonder if that’s the HR Brock was referring to – since I doubt he he hit any longer ones and the Mets did play 2 seasons there…
This must be the one for Brock:

Great job, Mac.
Gotta be it…
Hmmm. Might need to revisit going to another SJ game when Cueto hits the bump. Not worried about how hard he gets hit at this point. It’s more about his control. One walk is a good sign.
There’s zero negatives to him joining the MLB roster now or prior to the 31st. He gets his work in regardless. If Giants are out of it, so what? If they’re in, Cueto is eligible for the playoffs and may be able to help. I don’t see the angst about this. Giants can shut him down at any time – whether he’s playing in SF or the minors.
The only angst I’ve got re: Giants is that they have a good shot at getting swept by the Cubs. Winning one at least keeps the slim WC hopes alive. Swept, and they’re toast…
Giants need to win damned near every series to have a hope. Taking one from the cubbies won’t cut it, IMO. Here is a part of my post from yesterday on this topic…
IF the Giants win EVERY series (split the two two-game series with A’s and Dbacks) that equates to 26 wins. Sure they could do it, but with this series and the Cards being the only series against the teams we are chasing, they not only have to win at the above mentioned clip, but they will need some help, too.
Blade. Per yesterday. In the cabin, but on the floor . . . oh, the days.
Headed straight to the Buena Vista for Irish coffees upon the awakening.
You and Jagger…
Yeah, great times. After a few more years of that though, I did an “inventory” and said enough, putting the plug in the jug and got serious about my career/life.
That being said, I’ve told many people if my physician says I have 6 months to live or similar scenario – WATCH OUT! I’ll be breaking out the psychedelics, etc.
😂
Heh heh! Yup!!! Peyote and Marlboros for EVERYONE!!!
KNBR now reporting Giants say Cueto back by Sept 8…
Surprised by this (as I alluded to previously). Thanks for the info!
bad news for San Dawg’s ten bones.
Scorcese out with another mob film “The Irishman”. DeNiro, Pacino, Pesci.
Shocking, another mob film from DeNiro and Scorcese. They could do these sleepwalking…
Just my opinion, but I think DeNiro has been sleepwalking his roles for the past decade… Pacino still seems to be able to bring it…
Still love Scent of a Woman. One of my favorite Pacino flicks, among a shitload of great roles.
Attica! Attica!!
Flemming commented on the radio yesterday that the Cubs hitters were so comfortable against Beede it was almost like they knew what was coming. Who knows but if this continues Allie is going to give him the boot soon. There’s only room for one B level performer in the family.
I heard that too, Dirt.
With my good ear…
The Dick is in the lineup…
1. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
2. Scooter Gennett (L) 2B
3. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
4. Alex Dickerson (L) LF
5. Stephen Vogt (L) C
6. Kevin Pillar (R) CF
7. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
8. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
9. Dereck Rodriguez (R) P
Times are changing, now the poor get fat;
But the fever’s gonna catch you when the Dick gets back…
Bernie Taupin is a Giants fan?…
Dick needs to explode a few wads tonight!
Pacino’s a really good, maybe sometimes even great actor.
But, Diane Keaton is a stable rock of real world consciousness compared to him…
Plantar that one!
LongoBall….nice shot!
the way that started for DRod I was wondering if he was gonna get even one out before getting yanked. Nice recovery.
DRod shows some mental toughness after the bomb. Pay attention Beede.
Beede needs to learn to quit throwing “hit me!” BP in live games…to avert the HR before they happen.
These young pitchers suck.
they really do. So far all but the east German drug abuser have shown great mental and physical weakness
Walks to the 7 & 8 hitters and then a single to Darvish, he’s out-Beedeing Beede.
Man FUCK this guy. Giving up a hit to Darvish? Come fucking ON!
well said
I eat dinner and wtf???
I saw Venable coaching first base for the Cubs. I was like, “Cool, Max Venable played for the Giants.” But that’s his fucking son Will Venable. Goddamn I am getting old!
Ok, fuck this guy, no more DRod
Well, this sucks, but Mr. Z has no choice but to put these stiffs on the mound. Plenty of hitters, with Dubron and Jaylin waiting in the wings. Next season the minor/major league carrousel needs to emphasise new pitchers.
Wow. Very disappointing.
All walked Cubs batters have scored.
This is sizing up like the baseball version of the Little Big Horn, and Custer is wearing Black n Orange…
Pffffft. Our pitching staff is the Not-Ready-for-Prime-Time players.
And Schwarbler fucking wristed that ball over the fence. Belt and Posey can’t full swing one over the wall.
It’s complete fantasy to think this team is going to leap frog 5 teams and secure a Wild Card, especially when we get bitch slapped by the Cubs, whom currently are the Wild Card 2 leader.
We would be in this game, and others, regardless of the home runs if we didn’t walk 5-6 guys a game.
Belt is, without a doubt, the most boring power hitter I’ve ever watched hit. There isn’t a close second.
Power hitter?
Belt is considered a power hitter, yes.
I see Rizzo’s stats and say to myself, that’s a real power hitting 1st baseman.
Belt is not even trying.
Belt’s AB was in no way competitive.
Darvish is daring us to hit the ball. That was 5 hittable breaking balls in a row.
Like I keep saying, I hope Belt and Crawford are gone by the end of Spring training next year. I would be ecstatic if we could do that.
I can take Smargle, and even Longo, in small doses, but Belt and Crawfish have completely jumped the shark.
What I don’t get are these *legions* of Giants fans that Zumiee says are on facebook who would be devastated to lose these core guys. They fucking suck. Why are they so desperate to keep them around. And there goes a real hitter, Yaz, once again going the other way with power.
A lot of women fans get emotionally attached to the players in a way a lot of us don’t understand.
Posey too. A pale shell of what he once was. The only reason Belt and Crawford are playing full time is essentially due to a lack of quality infielders.
Yaz the younger, showing the “core” how it’s done.
Go to the Krukow and Kuiper FB page. Those are the housewives and rose-colored glasses fans.
Yazz can cook!
Gotta love Yaz!
Fucking guy knows how to go with the pitch. Belt can learn a ton from him.
Lil’ Yaz, there’s your power ! …
Come on, Coonrad drilled him on purpose, why did Rizzo do?
He didn’t want to walk him.
Wow, the pen is shit now as well. I suppose Darvish gets a double here. Soft Coonrod gives up the RBI single to the 8th place hitter..
You know things are going south when the dumb ass pitcher mouths the words, “is it 2 outs?” and then he allows another run to be knocked in. lqtm .
I’m not really sweating the bullpen, those were the guys left who had to pitch after Z ditched our BP arms at the break. But the rest of these guys, the fucking rotten core and the young SP’s who come up ant-small on a near nightly basis, those guys can fuck the fuck off.
Yeah yeah, but still, it would be nice not to see 6 walks a game. Every game.
Vogt bomb!
Called that one. Glad Garrett was here to hear it.
Pillar bomb!
Love me some Vogt.
If Buster had his toughness at the plate, we’d have something…
Tied up.
there was a time, right after we picked up 1.0, that Pillar was lamely compared to Gorkey’s Hernandez by some here. I hope that comparison has been accepted as stupid and wrong….
Pillar rocks. As does Yaz. Absolutely.
Amazing !
Pillar !
Giants can compete with HRs when they’re on the road.
At home, it’s like their HR bats turn into linguini …
Finally hitting that lazy-ass slider.
OK, let’s torch Holland …
Dutch Oven Fire time!
Gotta wonder why Madden was sitting on Holland when Vogt came up, but thanks.
Yaz woulda hit that pitch the other way.
That is so awesome. Walk from Belt, Craw hits a grounder off the pitcher–ok, whatever, that’s about the best we can expect out of them. And then BOOM! Slater!
Lighting up Holland is one of the best things i’ve seen so far this week.
Slater baby!! Dude’s fricking .933 OPS.
Alright Slater! Dammt, Slater. And now Yaz with a double.
Fuck! Slater cost them a run.
Man, THAT was a fun inning.
Now comes the hard part, putting up a zero.
Nice crooked number.
Another bomb is needed.
Just no fucking WALKS,
Missing the game but did the Giants just rip Holland a new one to take the lead?
Man, the Astros were -575 earlier today to beat the Tigers. That’s the highest I’ve EVER seen. And they just lost to the Tigers. Incredible!
I think the Astros had a crazy high line a couple weeks ago vs. the Orioles and lost that one too.
you’re absolutely right.
Holy shit. Prime reason you don’t quit on a game. Left a while back to drive down to see Gail complete with one of our dogs. Game looked over. Got to check the box and see WTF happened….
Oh my God. I’ve forgotten about Gail. This is the kind of comeback that might spell her doom later this evening…..
Wild assed game…SMH…a W tonight would be incredible….
Boy, not only does the back-end our rotation suck, but our bullpen is just a fucking hot mess….
Giants pitching staff reminds me of the Chiefs defense…
LMAO. I didn’t realize the Chief’s D sucked that bad. I mean to compare it to our BP….it has to be bad….
