(L)osing (A)gain?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 9, 2019

Big game in LA tonight. Dodgers will probably win but you know what? This is doable. Think about it. All the pressure is on the boys in blue. And it’s not like they care that much about the next round, did you see how many pics they took after they clinched the NL West? They acted like they won the World Series–which, for them, they did. That’s their World Series. Now we just wait to see which round they inevitably get knocked from. Could be tonight though…..

Sherman is acting like the Niners just won the Super Bowl; he’s all over social media talking smack. He’s an example of what comedian Brian Regan calls the Me Monster.

I don’t fault Sherman, that’s just how he motivates himself and his team. On Sunday they still have to show up and win. I’d rather have someone like that who talks shit after they win rather than a chump like Baker Mayfield who sucks but still talks shit.

Wondered how Tampa got where they are, under radar team without high payroll that still finished 12 games ahead of defending champ Boston for 2nd in AL East. And flew across country walked into Oakland and slapped Manea around and old man Morton held A’s down.
they hit 217 bombs, only good for 11th in AL. 9 different guys got into double figures and DH Austin Meadows hit 33. Most others not more than 20. They were middle pack for runs scored (7th) and top half of league (6th ish) for BA OB OPS yada.

However, they were #1 for AL ERA and top 2-4 in runs hits BBs allowed. And led league in fewest bombs allowed, 187.
So, the other half of the HR equation—hold the other guys down—worked for them.
Still don’t know who most of their guys are, gotta admit. Wasn’t Pham a guy Cards gave up on?

  3. unca_chuck said, on October 9, 2019 at 8:29 am

Right. Talk is cheap. Mayfield has been running his mouth for all of his illustrious 8-10 career. Johnny Manziel before him. It’s easy to be outspoken. It’s harder to back it up. I’ve said it a thousand times. Sherman is Draymond Green on the gridiron. He’s the smartest guy out there, and he’s a coach on the field. I didn’t particularly like his deal with Crabtree in the playoffs, and I loved Crabtree’s response, but Sherman made the play that put Seattle into the Super Bowl. And a shit-ton of other plays.

I LOVED the “you mad, bro?” thing with Brady. He makes plays all over the field and he’s gonna let you know.

I think this intentional PGE power outage stuff across wide areas is crazy.i It includes areas with zero risk. Instead of fixing risky power lines in trees etc, everybody is of grid, maybe for days?…

    • alleykat69 said, on October 9, 2019 at 10:01 am

It’s PGE way to get back to the public for all the money they had to dish out for all the horrible fires that they were still responsible for. They think shutting off grids for fire prevention helps, I’m not buying it!

    • chipower9 said, on October 9, 2019 at 10:30 am

Yeah, we lost power sometime last night. And the real pisser is that if you look at the weather models (I looked an numerous), Placerville is not expected to have winds over 7 MPH over the next 10 days.

But my power is out because of high fire danger related to winds in the area. PG&E sucks.

  5. unca_chuck said, on October 9, 2019 at 10:12 am

They told us our shut down was midnight last night. Because you know, that’s when usage is way up.

    Gimme a fucking break here.

Actually, I just looked at the map and our area is unaffected. We are in the hinterlands of walnut creek.

  6. unca_chuck said, on October 9, 2019 at 12:58 pm

It’s getting to the point of insanity:

“I have a little conflict of interest ’cause I have a major, major building in Istanbul,” Trump boasted. “It’s a tremendously successful job. It’s called Trump Towers — two towers, instead of one, not the usual one; it’s two. And I’ve gotten to know Turkey very well. They’re amazing people, they’re incredible people. They have a strong leader.”

And the band played on . . .

    • unca_chuck said, on October 9, 2019 at 1:36 pm

This was 4 years ago. Meanwhile our ISIS fighting allies are getting slaughtered. I know, no politics, but this is beyond ludicrous what the GOP is letting happen. I guess they all think this is the end for them and they might as well cash out while they can.

  7. chipower9 said, on October 9, 2019 at 3:02 pm

Both Kelly and Kershaw shouldn’t have come in sniffing distance of a pitcher’s mound tonight. Maeda should have pitched first and never taken out. Roberts = idiot.

    • willedav said, on October 9, 2019 at 9:36 pm

among other things, yeah. iirc Kelly was flat awful at start of season with really high ERA. Just didn’t turn out to be a good pick up for them.

Freakin awesome! As I have said before the over managing is amazing. Couldn’t have happened to a better team. Maeda was great but not in when it counted. Where was K Jensen??? SOOO great
On LA radio this am..By one of the hosts…not a fan even… “If Bueler is in trouble in the 2nd or 3rd he has to come out for kershaw” When will they learn??

  58. unca_chuck said, on October 9, 2019 at 10:24 pm

Do they not trust their pen? Why bring Opie in with all the playoff baggage he carries?

  59. alleykat69 said, on October 9, 2019 at 10:29 pm

When Roberts announces before the game that he was going to piggyback Kershaw after Buehler that’s just downright stupid thinking. It tells the Nats hitters that’s great,we get Buehler out and his 98 cheese for Kershaw’s 91 we can speed up the bats and rake.
Kershaw got Eaton out to finish the 7th, and that should of been it for him, but noooo dumbshit Roberts let’s him go out in the 8th with the heart of the lu coming up? Predictable results, and why didn’t he use Jansen instead?

  60. zumiee said, on October 9, 2019 at 10:29 pm

On the Dodger blogs right now, Roberts is getting roasted big-time.
Dodger fans had it easy all season, so much stuff went right for the team, and they all hit a brick wall tonight.
7 years in a row of hitting the brick wall.

  61. unca_chuck said, on October 9, 2019 at 10:37 pm

Jesus, I almost feel bad for Opie. He mans up and sez his shit and knows what’s being said about him, but he shouldn’t have been out there. Kelly? Shit, the game was over by then.

6 outs left and you got Maeda and Jensen. Naaah, let’s go with the guy who has historically struggled in the playoffs. Like it is more important for some sort of redemption for Kershaw than to simply win the game.

    Astronomically stupid decision,

  62. unca_chuck said, on October 9, 2019 at 10:41 pm

Up there with Matt Williams taking out Zimmerman with 2 outs in the top of the 9th after Panik hit the foul home run.

  63. mrsprtdude said, on October 9, 2019 at 10:42 pm

The crazy thing is that we root for our guys absolutely, but if they suck we say so. Dodger fans i know are constantly defending how good Kershaw is in the playoffs. It was one bad start or it was the bullpen yada yada yada. Crazy.,Tomorrow they will put 100% of the blame on kelly. None on CK…If I bring it up no one even remembers that they had game 5 won vs Houston and he gave up 3 run leads twice…

  64. alleykat69 said, on October 9, 2019 at 10:55 pm

Problem is Roberts and maybe he’s getting it from the GM too, believe to this day Kershaw is the same dominating pitchers he always had been, which of course he isn’t ..
I applaud Clayton to come out and fall on the sword, he really is a class act guy, but he should not of been in that position to fail.He did his job, struck out Eaton in a high pressure situation to end the 7th, mission accomplished, let him enjoy that moment on the bench, and go to the pen in the 8th(Maeda&Jansen) should of been able to wrap it up, but Roberts expected 4 batters out of him and got burned! Roberts truly can’t figure out postseason baseball..

  65. zumiee said, on October 9, 2019 at 11:57 pm

Good reflective post from a Dodger fan at a Dodger blog. And gives recognition to MadBum.

“You can clearly see which Dodger players step up in October, and which ones disappear or worse.
Some guys just show that they can own it in the big moments.
Buehler. We’ve seen enough now, he absolutely owns it. He’s the ace, he dominates in the biggest moments. Reminds of Bumgarner.
Muncy. Not afraid of the big moment whatsoever.Consistently comes up huge.Clutch.
Kike Hernandez. Steps up when it counts the most. Capable of being the hero. Doesn’t Roberts see that he should be in there more?
Justin Turner: while not dominating, he’s had plenty of key hits for us when it counts most. A great hitter, he does not fade when it counts.
Joc Pederson: He’s come up big plenty of times and he can get it done when it matters.
Smith and Lux are just kids, they get a pass. They were thrust into this situation too early if you ask me.
On the other side of the scale:
Corey Seager: 3 for 20. Zero HR’s. Zero RBI’s. One double. 8 K’s. And all this, after heating it up in September.
Pollock: Don’t even get me started. Good-bye.
    Joe Kelly: Thanks for everything.
    On a different level:
Kershaw: the greatest regular season pitcher I saw in my life. The biggest disappointment in the postseason I saw in my life.
Bellinger: starting to remind a little too much like Kershaw: 4 for 19. No HR’s. No RBI’s. 7 K’s. Quiet as a mouse once the stage gets big. Last year was even worse.
The Dodgers are truly a unique animal. They really are built for the regular season. They are so deep, the roster is overflowing with talented players. But they don’t have enough of the right horses, even with Buehler they don’t have enough in their starting pitching. Ryu is very good, but it’s not enough to win big post season series.
This loss is going to hurt for a very, very long time. I don’t even want to think about it.

    Posted by goodvibe61 on Oct 9, 2019 | 11:19 PM”

  66. unca_chuck said, on October 10, 2019 at 7:58 am

Well, he doesn’t even mention the hack job Roberts did. Even bringing in Kershaw in the 7th was iffy, but it worked. You put in Maeda and Jensen for the 8th and 9th and you take your chances. End of story. I think 15 other managers would have won that series for the Dodgers.

Instead, Roberts feels some kind of misguided loyalty to Kershaw to let him go in the 8th so he gets some kind of playoff redemption? It DOES have a lot to do with Bochy and Bumgarner and their relationship, but Bummie is a different animal.
