A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Is This….Boring?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 19, 2019

These days it is not uncommon to see a good hitting team get shut out or score just 1 or 2 runs. A conga line of hitters head to the plate waving away at pitches only to trudge back to the dugout. So is this great post season pitching rising up? Or is this just the *new game* we are forced to watch now? Guys swinging for the fences on every pitch. Because this really is a grind to watch sometimes. You can almost guarantee Judge will strike out if he’s got 2 strikes on him. Same with a lot of hitters.

The bombs are fun to watch but there are WAY more strikeouts than bombs. The game we grew up on is dead…..

watched GS last night and saw pregame analysis of them on NBA TV with Greg Anthony and Brian Shaw. Neither one thought Warriors could win 50 games in West, with Shaw being little harsher. Both thought Cauley-stein would do well for them.
Curry is still superior player, Russell and Green are fine. Beyond that lot of ?, like a lot of other teams going into season.

Chriss surprisingly making team. We’ll see if he can take advantage of this career saving opp, he’s looked good in pre season

yes though last night no Brow nor LB nor JaVale to contend with. They are gonna start glen robinson III at small forward and bring in bunch of young guys off bench.
Funny, Anthony said he thought Green would mellow out and become more of leader. So last night, twice, he couldn’t finish inside at the rim off break and as ball went other way he stood and yelled at ref. One time foul was called on GS at other end and as players were milling back and forth before FT was shot Green was back down the floor but still yelling at refs, just like always.

The best part of the broadcast last night was Smoltz telling Buck like 3 different times to basically shut up when he would rattle off some obscure “statistic” about the game. He just couldn’t stand it anymore and couldn’t keep it to himself. Really respect that. Wouldn’t be surprised if he was chastised afterwards…

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on October 19, 2019 at 12:06 pm

Loo,I I missed that raking over the coals of Buck!
That’s great! I really do like the work of Smoltz in the booth, he’s not afraid to make his points and their logical thinking he is quite good!!
Hey do any of you guys experience FS1 áudio on your TV “Sucking” during the game? I can’t hear the broadcasters( of course with Buck that’s a good thing)The crowd noise is jacked up higher, and the announcers are muted, it’s quite annoying and doesn’t happen on Fox..

This is the new breed of baseball? We’re young were exciting,we’re loud!!
Screw that, the game was a lot more exciting in the 60’s 70’s 80’s when you had a glutton full of fantastic players who played the game with pride not the paycheck( of course only a few of the elite got) unlike today’s players worrying if my bombs are down it will hurt me in arbitration. For me imo baseball was much more fun to watch back then..

I miss stolen bases (Brock, Henderson, Raines, Coleman, Morgan), doubles (Rose, Biggio, Brett, Yastrzemski, Beltre), triples (Wilson, Brock, Mays) and pitchers who could complete a fucking game (Seaver, Ryan, Marichal, Gibson, Koufax, Drysdale, Jenkins, Martinez, Palmer).

Oh, and games that last no longer than 2 hours and 30 minutes, as they averaged for all of the 60s and 70s.

also, the personalities and the individuality of those guys. Today, everyone looks the same. Beard, hair, stupid.

One other thing . . . I love closers – Fingers, Eckersley, Gossage, Beck, Nen. What do they have in common? They’re not pussies and limit themselves to one inning, much less one batter.

Take Fingers for example, as the father of the modern day closer role, Rollie would come into games in the sixth or seventh inning to close games out. Who does that now?

      • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on October 19, 2019 at 1:19 pm

Yeah and I loved the closers with the imitation look factor..Gossage,Lee Smith(bad ass) the Mad Hungarian Haborskl(sp) when he got behind the mound and psyche himself up slamming his glove, just classic shit!!
You really have to be quite intimating as a closer almost a psycho candidate, some have the look with the success, others don’t you can see it in their eyes 👀!
For a Starter Dave Stewart has the menacing face and put his glove up to his nose before every pitch, but his eyes would put fear in a batter at the plate..

My retired (LOTS of time on his hands) baseball friend found an article from espn that clearly states that MLB deadened the balls again for the playoffs, Crazy! He is the one who goes to AZ fall league yearly and is a lifetime subscriber to baseball prospectus. I would post it but no clue how:(

Shout out to Loo . . . Marshall in his record-setting 1974 season, pitched 208.1 innings, all of which came in relief appearances. That is fucking amazing.

By the by, this guy wasn’t a moron either. He attended Michigan State University, earning three degrees, including a Ph.D. in kinesiology.

The Yankees have won a record 27 World Series in 40 appearances (which, since the first World Series in 1903, currently amounts to an average appearance every 2.7 seasons and a championship every 4.0 seasons).

It’s been 10 years since their last one. Dogpile since 1988. lqtm
