A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Mason Saunders

Definitely the weirdest Spring story so far. Apparently Bum outrangled this cowpoke in some type of cowboy operative.

Does this bother anyone? It’s not like he was on a bull (I don’t think so anyway). I’d love to see video of this if anyone can find it.

Well…..it’s not without risk of injury. We all know how easily baseball players get injured.

Used to watch this stuff as a kid. Bum wouldn’t be wrestling them to ground and tying legs up with rope, right?

There is still a pro circuit that is televised, though I doubt these days guys make anything like what Bum makes for pitching. Years ago I knew a guy who did Mexican rodeo circuit up and down California on weekends. those guys didn’t specialize as much in each separate event since it was smaller show, and so he did bunch of different events in a day. Tough way to make a living.

According to cbs sports site, this came out in the Athletic and Baggs had something to do with it. Somehow he and another guy came across photo from Rancho Rio FB they recognized with bum as Mason Saunders and his roping partner in it. He admitted it, saying it was “gonna ruin my alias.” Said he and missus would use “Mason” when talking to each other out in public.
Man what a character. I say more power to him.

I wouldn’t drop half a paycheck to get a decent enough seat at Warriors new Arena, but Zion is worth price of admission. Seeing him in live action would likely be something you’d remember for long time.

Yeah Mason is his alias version of Madison and Saunders is his wife’s maiden name.He definitely likes to keep undercover lol.
I believe if it’s a bull, one rider ropes the horns while the other one ropes the legs and it just stretches the legs out and their done, with no rider getting off they’re horse.Which is what this is.
If it’s calf competition, it’s just one cowboy 🤠 roping the calf jumping off his horse throwing the calf touts side and tying the legs as fast as he can then throwing his arms up with his best yippee ya yeah impression to the judges.
Doubt Bum does that event, much more dangerous, for shoulder and other body parts..

According to the story the guy in the picture is his childhood friend. Ropers act as a team so he didn’t out-wrangle the guy – they placed second in the competition or something like that. As a kid I went to a lot of rodeos in Auburn, Red Bluff and Reno and I think it’s pretty cool.

Yeah I’ve been to my share of rodeos too Dirt,Reno,Clovis,Cow PalaceRowell Canyon(by Livermore)
It’s funny besides a hotdog and a beer, they gave out free Skoal packs of chewing tobacco are the poaches.Made you feel like a real cowboy 🤠

That’s Buymmie’s partner in the team calf roping event. One guy ropes the back legs while the other guy ropes the head, wrestles the calf to the ground, and ties his legs up.

I figured the other victims families would strike first.
Why aren’t they part of this lawsuit?
      Think they have other plans?

Speaking of Bum and horses, I don’t see the 2014 flag on the side of the blog anymore. The photo with Bum carrying it on a horse.

Good for Bum, he doesn’t own a bunch of horses just to feed em.
Cody Ross wanted to be a rodeo clown when he was a kid. That there job has to take some huge cojones.

What would be even funnier is if he broke his leg doing this shit and missed the entire season,

  15. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on February 24, 2020 at 1:15 pm

You just can’t bubble wrap every athlete once their seasons ends no matter what they’re contract clauses have written in them.

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on February 24, 2020 at 2:20 pm

Sure, but competing in rodeos is kind of pushing the envelope. 🙂

A moment of levity at the Bryant memorial service today.
Michael Jordan talking about his tears as he was speaking:

“”I told my wife I wasn’t going to do this because I didn’t want to see that [crying meme] for the next 3 or 4 years.”
He stopped, as the crowd erupted in applause and laughter at his acknowledgment of the meme.”

Bore Core update: Posey, Belt, Craw all 0-2. Is Longo part of the BC? He’s 1-2 with a 2-run double.

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on February 24, 2020 at 2:40 pm

I consider Longo a member of the Bore Core. Those four.

Your going to need a bigger boat!

  20. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on February 24, 2020 at 6:08 pm

Has anyone really verified that it really was a dirt bike accident, and not a rodeo mishap? A la Jeff Kent’s truck washing accident?

He said he was with his family in Colorado on a rented dirt bike, and immediately returned to the hotel after the accident. And then went and saw Dave Greschner.

“Mason Saunders”, come on. How many of those country bumpkins in the stands didn’t know they were watching MadBum?

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on February 24, 2020 at 7:52 pm

How was this possibly kept quiet for so long?

  23. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on February 24, 2020 at 7:56 pm

Sgt Saunders from Combat days they would of broke this story quicker..

  24. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on February 24, 2020 at 8:53 pm

I’m wondering if the Giants didn’t know about his cowboy escapades, and decided not to pursue him over the winter.Hey you had your dirt bike incident, so now if you want to keep being reckless, it will be with another organization footing the bill..

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on February 24, 2020 at 9:27 pm

      Could have been.
It’s a strange story. It would be a bigger story in a normal Spring Training; but with the huge scandal by the Astros, and the death of Kobe Bryant, those are such huge stories that Bum’s story seems like not much.
