And….Scene!
Ok, I think last night was my Domingo German moment.
Sorry.
WordPress still hasn’t gotten back to me about how to save the blog in some type of Smithsonian archive which is where it belongs when I finally decide it’s time to shut her down.
I spent the morning tweeting angry shit at the Portland PD.
I’m leaving for vacation soon and I think everyone would agree I need one badly.
PIA with a pretty hot Asian student. 7/10. Sorry Room Rater can’t have me look at anything any other way.

Will say it again: Giants current rut was likely precipitated by the successes in ‘10,12 and ’14. Veterans of those wonder years had earned some loyalty from fans, management and upper levels. But when they barely got shut down by the Cubs in ’16, the hand-writing was on the wall. However, the decision makers maintained that loyalty to the vets who brought those titled and rings. Off-season of 16-17 should have been breakup time, trading off still very fungible vets for youngsters with probably excellent upsides. Didn’t happen during the last years of the Sabean stretch and Bochy was not the type to rock the boat.
Therefore, the hiring of Zaidi, the current problem attempting to downsize and the broken season being precisely that in more ways than one. Upside is that the stars will be realigned in ’22, with occasional hints in this attenuated season along with longer flashes next year and then comes the year the team should be both viable and a contender.
Agree, Stix.
Fungible. Love that word.
Yes Stix, the day after the massacre of blowing that games to the Cubs and they’re famous every other year W/S title run ended it was the RIGHT time to make the changes going forward which of course they’re loyalty continued under Sabes/Evans even Bochy..
Craig – I mentioned at the end of the last thread about bringing-back the “Stable Boys” to throw-up some daily threads. Would that work for while you are on vacation? Maybe take some of the load off?
Preseason Giants ball tonight. I am definitely looking forward to it. Play Ball!
nice post end of last thread, and agree completely about Flap I see as being a beacon of light/safe harbor in a storm these days.
I know giants last season had so bad a start I couldn’t watch them by end of May but things did turn around for a bit, met up with lads at the yard and that sustained me through about September.
Even if we disagree about baseball and other things, always a fun read.
Flavor- hope you have a great vacation. If you find a way to alleviate stress and anger please let me know. Hopefully the Giants take the Dodger series, i know that would loosen up some of my anger.
stix- successful teams have to know when to play their hands and when to fold. Loyalty is an admiral trait but in sports it isn’t always the best avenue to go down. i think you are right about 2022 being the year we break out.
The Dem politico reaction to blame the federal police who at this point are just trying to lend and establish stability in this beat up downtown Portland now are the focus as the problem…what the fuck??? You just want to say fuck em and let Portland burn but the vast majority of those residents dont deserve that…what I really cant stand is seeing these wannabe white millennial douches (especially these punk women) actually thinking they are on some type of protest play date.
The video Flav posted of this concerted effort to cause significant property damage (where does the memory of George Floyd play in any of this???) proves the point.
All the history buffs we have here will know this is exactly how the Hitler and the Nazi rose to power. Berlin and other German cities were consumed with running street battles between fascists and commies (spanish civil war anyone???) and the people eventually said fuck this chaos and anarchy and started to back the fascists….
And what the left, especially these wannabe play radicals, dont get is that this all plays right into our hands as Repubs and Trump Admin. Who here does not think a majority of white suburban voters in all the battleground states especially the three midwest states that Trump won for the first time in over a generation in WI, PA, and MI are not going to react to this anarchy with their votes??? Wait till the re-elect starts plastering these images of violence and chaos tearing statues down and vandalizing things like a Gandhi statue with video of a stumbling Biden…
By far voters are more focused on the terrible “leadership” Trump is providing regarding the pandemic. Trump has historically bad poll numbers right now.
The campaign has not even started yet…do you remember Willie Horton??? The convict that Al Gore first brought up to go after Dukakis…that ad among other Dukakis missteps destroyed his candidacy and go back and look. Dukakis had similar polling of being way ahead that summer of ’88. We are about to utterly destroy Joe Biden…Willie Horton + Swift Boat = Trump Re-election…
Do you remember George Bush II?
The one other thing that has riled me even further is this SF museum director being forced to resign because he had the gall to suggest that he would still display art from white artists…what a nazi he must be to suggest that!!!! How dare he!!! Also now I think it was AP who has now decided for all journalists that Black would be capitalized because it is a race but white remains lower case. Is it because we are not a race? Are a lesser people? Is this an implied superiority the cultural police will want to enforce ala China cultural revolution. Are the guillotines far behind??? Should I force myself to be ‘re-educated’ now on my own to avoid the guillotine???
Nice try on the culture war hysteria. It’s the pandemic that is completely revealing Trump to the American people for the deranged incompetent doofus that he is.
Zum, please keep thinking the election is over…it is exactly where we want you and the Dems. Just ask President Hillary Clinton and President Michael Dukakis and President John Kerry…this election is likely dead even right now. It is all about 5-6 states and I would ebt my school lunch those states are essentially even while Trump has been pounded by the press for 3 1/2 years, this pandemic and I agree there have been many missteps and then the economy being pulled up underneath him and he is still in play in all these battleground states. That reflects tremendous energy among his base and we go out and demonstrate this chaos to these white suburban voters and the white independents and seniors come flooding back to Trump un these battleground states.
One poll has Trump at 20% among African-Americans…I bet he pushes toward 30% and will be the highest black vote for a Repub candidate in 50 years at least…polling also reflects rising support among Hispanics as well. And it is both these hard working populations that look at Portland and say FUCK THESE WANNABE WHITE RADICALS!!! Just wait Zum…I know politics.
It’s all about divide and conquer=divide and rule. As long as WE THE PEOPLE remain divided against each other via the plandemic and various lesser hot-button issues; the powers behind the throne will run laughing back to their banks.
Who is doing the dividing, Stix? THe guy who wants to keep the COnfederate flag flying? The one who supports statues over people?
I am not into the defacing and burning or property. But, according to DHS, and other fed orgs, the unmarked fed officers (only “Police” on their uniforms) are there to protect the federal courthouse and other buildings. Then pull the fuck back and protect them! Pulling law-abiding citizens off the streets, shoving them into “unmarked vehicles” away from any of these federal buildings, is a direct violation of those American citizens’ First Amendment rights. Fuck that!
Nice that Trump value statues, flags, and buildings over people.
Chuck, I know you west coast elites think people out in the middle of the country are just a bunch of dumb hicks. But they actually care about anarchy and chaos and “statues, flags and buildings.”
Keep thinking otherwise and smugly sit at home while we go out and get the votes of these “dumb hicks.”
Chi: The fed$ in question were Border Patrol. With the forced passage of the Patriot Suppression Act, the Department of Homeland $ecurity was given control over the BP during the regime of Baby Bu$h, taking orders directly from Daddy, still the de-facto if not de-jure chief of the CIA.
Using a previously “forgotten” 1952 Act giving the Border Patrol jurisdiction within 100 air miles of the northern and southern borders AS WELL AS maritime borders (up to 100 miles inland from the coasts and Great Lakes) ,the recently anointed federal secret police were granted the power to hit the streets in Portland, just as they were enabled to buzz my deep-country home 93 miles from the Manitoba border.
Because of this dusted-off 1952 law, which effectually eviscerated constitutional guarantees, two out of every three Americans are now under direct federal secret police control. Markus Wolff, longtime head of East Germany’s much feared Stasi secret police, out of a job after the fall of the Wall, was contractually hired to design the Patriot Suppression Act and the “Buro des Heimats Sicherheit” (DH$). Shortly after Wolff’s task was completed, he went horizontal.
Portland was a flashing-amber warning light. Take heed. There is much more in the hopper.
Yes, the middle of the country generally IS a bunch of idiots who believe things like plandemic and that not wearing a mask is a fight for freedom. Nearly EVERY other country on the world not run by a populist thug (hello Brazil) has beaten the virus.. How’s that child porn ring on Mars working out? You found it yet?
I also believe that some of the “anarchists” who are causing the destruction are plants, to fan the flames, and to thus justify the fed police being in Portland. Conspiracy theory? I am not so sure…
Yup. The umbrella man vid i telling
Chi: No need to be shy. Sigmund Freud in ‘Civilization and its Discontents’ shared an insight: “Civilization is a conspiracy.” That was his take circa 1922, with the results of World War One and the Versailles “Peace” clear and close in his rearview mirror. 98 years later, we are far deeper into Plato’s Cave. Perception is carefully and closely managed. We reside in a very orderly New World. George Orwell’s ‘1984’ is already 36 years into the past…and on ‘The Animal Farm’ some are clearly more equal than others.
Planted maybe but by the George Soros’ of the world…if you think Repubs are pulling these strings you give us way too much credit. It is like all these fools who thought Team Trump in 2016 were sitting there in secret meetings with Russians planning strategy….lol!!! The Trump campaign did not know what the hell they were doing in 2016 but somehow they had this Machiavellian super-villain power??? Laughing my ass of…
Exactly Stix…this cultural police insisting on Black and white are the ruling pigs.
Jesus, GH. Your party is too stupid to do collude with Russia??? Got it. The meetings fucking happened no matter how you want to ignore it.
Gentlemen, re-start your engines. It is NOT about partisan politics. Ever since the shots from the grassy knoll, no individual president thinks he/she is truly running things. The message was made. To some modest degree, Jimmy Carter, essentially an honest and considerate man, was not merely an ACTING president.
The CIA is running the show AT the governmental level (read Gary Webb’s book on the advent of crack-cocaine) and their mandated reports to the Chief Executive are mere window-dressing–little more than what is programmed for public viewing. The true shot-callers–at the meta-political level–are to be found at the highest levels of financial power.
Most mega-political practitioners are yet a step above the macros and know a lot about what’s going on, but don’t expect truth or explanations from them as they are well-compensated minions for the top rungs on the political scrotum-pole.
If you happen to be open-minded enough to conduct your own unlimited research, then please feel free to call it as you see it. However, if all your opinions and outlooks are pre-packaged for your personal part of the herd delectation; then you are merely an echo-chamber–an amen chorus.
Stix, as part of the Admin I have been saying there is now a Media-Intelligence State not much different than Eisenhower’s warnings of a military industrial state but we are trying to fight it…we may very well lose…I believe that much of this “establishment” within the fed govt here is trying to run the state on their own and undermining where they can to maintain the establish intl order in terms of international engagement via military and trade…what say you Stix???
GH: Anyone who is not too “comfortably numb” to insist there is no such animule as the Deep $tate may well have been smoking stuff that may be occluding the synapses between left and right hemispheres of their brains.
That said, BOTH parties, the Demolicans and the Republicrats are sock-puppets, controlled from the top-down via their Central Committees (shades of the Bolsheviks there). The RNC in 2016 was MOST uncomfortable about the Trump nomination–but it went outta their control. The BU$h/Cheney/Neocon faction is doing all they can to sabotage the war-effort and are aiming directly at reestablishing FULL control over the RNC.
On the other side of the fence, the shot-calling billionaire Democrat campaign donors threw ALL their power behind Biden and the DNC in order to fend off Bernie. To the relative handful of Americans who enjoy some level of understanding of Meta-politics, this is all so obvious; while the “comfortably numb” of BOTH partisan persuasions remain oblivious.
God, deep-state idiocy at its finest, GH. 64 people directly connected to Trump talked with Russian leaders but that is a bridge too far. Laughable. Kislyak and his band of heavy hitters in Russia have unfettered access to our president. Trump believes Putin over his own agencies.
Yeah everyone is in on it.
GH, the only way Trump can get re-elected (and it wouldn’t be a sure thing) is he would have to engage with this pandemic and actually show strong leadership in fighting it.
But, as Mary Trump has said, he would be admitting his mistakes, and he’s incapable of admitting mistakes. He thinks that’s weakness.
He’s wrong. Adimitting one’s own mistakes and learning from them is strength, not weakness.
And I actually do not disagree with you on any of that…if I had any ability to advise the WH I would have said this is the opportunity to now show leadership by wearing masks and urging stricter social contraction for next 30 days and hope Sept 1 we are in a different paradigm with the spread…
Driving back home from Silicon Valley yesterday, I happened across the Chris Wallace interview of trump live, via radio. What a pathetic farce he is. Strangely entertaining to hear him spout his dishonest and ill-informed right-wing crap. I would’ve preferred a baseball game, of course. That’ll be next weekend.
Does Bart start tonight? I hope so.
There’s a lot of dynamics that are different between the ‘88 election and the 2020 election.
This election is closer to the ‘92 election than ‘88. A weak incumbent struggling to articulate a reason he should be re-elected.
And a tanking economy in 1992…that may not be the case this time either. Any sign of beimg back on the economic track the dynamic will not be the same as ’92. Ok will have to run and can wage the battle later…
i don’t know who’s actually running the country. But I am pretty sure Trump is now and has been for at 40 years a crook(con man), a habitual liar, and racist. He has been sued so many times it’s funny, totally afraid to let his taxes be seen(why is that i wonder), and a self-serving business man. He just might be elected again but who in their right mind would truly want that? He keeps talking about do-nothing democrats but what has he actually done except tear down prior policies? Oh yeah, he started building a wall and operating child detainment camps. Goody for him.
If the Dems had anyone remotely inspiring they’d probably win easy.
Biden’s voters (IMO) will be “ABT” much like so many Trump voters in ’16 were “ABH”…
Yes, Loo, this will be the second consecutive “vote no” selection.
Stix:
Maybe I shouldn’t say this, but Big Flavor was contemplating shutting down the blog not too long ago.
His main motivation to keep it going was the hope that you would someday return…
i agree the dems have been as stupid as can be the last few years. i don’t consider myself real smart but how could they believe Hillary and Biden are the best they could offer. I am voting to try and keep democracy alive. Whatever that means in current times. Trump would be ok with a monarchy but I am pretty sure he would rather have a dictatorship. Then we could have trumpies for a long time. Thank God I won’t live more than 20 years. Vote for the kids futures and maybe we can get out of this.
Interesting covid testing experience right now. A month ago I got tested and there were two cars in front of me. Right now, even with everyone here having an appt there are probably 40 cars in front of me.
Once it’s your turn, Flav, here’s to you emerging with flying colors, testing negative for the virus. Also, wishing you the best on your sabbatical and that the usual crew of helpers will ably fill in until your return to Cali.
I still get a laugh when Michael Dukakis name comes up after the worse campaign boner of alltime having him in a military tank and he was never in the military!!
Another classic was Ross Perot’s VP candidate Rear Admiral 20 Stars ⭐️ and medals on his shoulders Stockdale was up on stage with the rest of the VP candidates and they asked him a question and they’re was this long pause with a confused 🤷♂️ face like a bomb fragment went off in his head.I think they had to go to a break, as I’m sure Perot was cringing knowing it was all over for his chances to get elected.Nobody needs a confused man who’s 2nd in command ready to push a button to start a war for no reason..
Giant Head hit the nail on the head (no pun intended) when he says that this election will come down to the 5-6 battleground states (Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, etc.). Biden could get 6 million more votes than Trump and still lose the electoral college.
One thing, however, that Gianthead might not be considering is this. My Mom hated Hillary Clinton and didn’t vote for her. A lot of women hated Clinton, but she is not running this year. I just don’t see Trump getting the college educated women vote this election and I think he doesn’t get as much of the rural white women vote as he did the last election. Also people aren’t going to be voting for Biden, they are going to be voting against Trump. Their minds are already made up. Nothing that will happen between now and the election will change that.
Another key topic should be Ruth Bader Ginsburg. If Trump is re-elected he will certainly appoint another conservative judge and more conservative judges in general throughout the legal system. You would think Democrats would come out to vote in droves just for this reason alone.
And speaking of Supreme Court Justices, why are they elected for life? I am 65 and not as sharp as when I was 45-50. NO WAY am I going to have it together mentally and physically when I am 85. I don’t know what the term limit should be but it certainly shouldn’t be a lifetime appointment.
Agree, Bill, that the S.Ct. is a nearly unmitigated mess. Unfortunately, it has been such since a lame-duck John Adams appointed the arch-Federalist John Marshall to be Chief Injustice…and it has been steadily going downhill ever since. Would also agree that Kavanaugh is bad noose, but would beg to differ on Gorsuch as he does appear to be somewhat respecting of the Bill of Rights. Along with Ginsburg, Gorsuch opposed the contra-constitutional “dual sovereignties” decision in Gamble v. U.$. Even Chief Justice Roberts sometimes deviates from the Bu$h agenda.
Generally speaking, though, we need to hold a Reconstitutional Convention, objects being several and first among them would be for replacement of the $.Ct. with a non-lawyer constitutional court made up of living national treasures (no partisan prostiticians need apply) to six year terms, with age 55 being the minimal acceptable. This is just a proposal and is open to considerable discussion and debate.
I am out on the political bullshit for today. Hey, progressives/liberals have their views, and conservatives like Ghead have theirs. Neither are going to change the minds of the others. I will say we can respectfully agree to disagree.
How ’bout those Mets?!
We need a few beers, Chi.
Comin’ up on 4 years since…
Agree, Loo. I would LOVE to kick-back and have a beer, or three or four, or more, with you my friend.
Nurse says there are so many people now because of all the elective surgeries
“One poll has Trump at 20% among African-Americans…I bet he pushes toward 30% and will be the highest black vote for a Repub candidate in 50 years at least.”
Meanwhile back on planet Earth, Trump is polling at about 7% among blacks right now, and it’s not likely to get higher than that. There will be a surge of black voters against Trump in this election, even if they are being forced to wait hours in line by suppression tactics.
“Zum, please keep thinking the election is over”
I never said it’s over. In fact, Dem voters remember ‘16 all too well. I don’t see complacency being an issue this time.
And Biden is more well-liked across the nation than Hillary.
But if Trump ever started showing competent leadership regarding the pandemic, he’d have a chance at re-election.
One of Trump’s problems is that any video of strife in the streets, is video of Trump’s America. He’s the incumbent. He’s trying to walk a fine line of promising improvement of his own presidency. That’s hard to do.
I would argue that the GOP has less respect for Middle America than the Dems. Trump, as the con-artist he’s been his whole life, sees Middle America as his perfect suckers. He couldn’t care less about their lives, literally.
You are right, DJ. Stupid but true. This whole government needs to be revamped.
When the Dems win and the electoral college is abolished, Citizens United is overturned, and term limits are put in place in the senate and Congress, it would be a start.
To equate the Republican taxing of the middle class and stomping on the poor, the rolling back of meaningful environmental safeguards is fucking ludicrous in the face of these delusional atifa complaints.
Unca: I totally agree with you on spanking the court’s ass on their contra constitutional “Citizens United” bullshit decision on behalf of the financier/corporatocracy agenda.
I still don’t understand why SCOTUS thought that was a good idea back in 2010. Inviting foreign interests into our elections is never a good idea.
3 in 5 – all under Obama!!!
I’d vote for him just for that…
Yes!
🙂
As we speak, the White House has announced that the worthless Covid task force briefings will be happening again.
This is again an attempt to show Trump “leading” on this. It’s a purely political reaction to his very bad poll numbers, but it won’t work unless Trump changes. If it’s the same-o same-o from him, it’s going to flop again. It’ll just be him, once again, completely muddying any message from the task force.
i believe Trump will offer African Americans reparations about a month or two before the election. i wouldn’t be surprised if his immigration policy has some dramatic changes also.
Some in the GOP do seem open to extending Covid financial aid to the public.
Like I said, most every first world country got on top of this by leading. Trump called it a farce, a Dem ploy, and dithered for a month while it took hold. Then he abdicated responsibility and told the states it is their problem to solve. Then he talks his happy talk about it will go away by itself in April, then it will magically disappear.
Meanwhile, Germany, Italy, France, Norway, Denmark, etc. even the dipshit in England, got the point. Stay in place and wear masks. If Trump had led the country and said that in march, this would be flatlining like everywhere else.
But no, Trump has to fan the flames of division by supporting the clowns who think it is their God-given right to GET A HAIRCUT at the cost of infecting and killing family members. Now he wants to send children into harm’s way by forcing them to go to school.. Thank God he can’t. He abdicated anything regarding COVID strategy in March. He still doesn’t come out and say wear a mask, while giving corporations billions while the people continue to suffer, lose jobs, lose healthcare, and lose their lives.
GH, do you think Trump has done a good job with COVID?
End of rant.
The Trumpster was getting his medical briefing from Ms. Brix, a gopher for Fascce.
He’s not following any guidelines. If kids go to school en masse, there will be another spike on the order of magnitude that will make this one look tame. There may be 400,000 dead by election time.
Trump is actively killing people and blaming everyone else.
I think the logic of lifetime appointments to the Supreme Court was to try to free judges from worrying about politics, and just make decisions free of that. In theory, anyway.
we’ve got baseball tonight. ACTUAL baseball. 6:40. I can’t wait.
It’ll be great.
WOO FUCKING HOO on baseball. This political drivel is wearing my ass out…
There’s a lot of pre-season baseball on TV now.
Did anyone catch Chipper Jones as a broadcast analyst? What do you think? I thought he had lots of good insight, but he does speak with a slow drawl, kind of like Sam Elliott. I think he’s going to be OK.
I could see there being some negative reaction to his almost drowsy-sounding voice, though.
Once again that is not the one I wanted but they do offer lots of good stuff if you scroll through
That’s a very interesting track. It takes the listener on a journey.
this is a great one, I’ve watched this particular vid many many times
I saw Black Oak Arkansas back in the early 70s in Tulsa, OK (high school daze).
Badge is a great track and Clapton stretched out on this one. As I type this I’m staring at vinyl copy of Disraeli Gears collage from back of the LP.
chipper jones tried to fuck my girlfriend Noel back in the day (he failed) so I’m coming at him with a big NO
Trivia:
What Milwaukee Brewer dry-humped my girlfriend at Adam’s Apple Disco in 1979?
i’m gonna say Gorman Thomas because he looks like someone who would go dry-hump right out the chute
I think you may have mentioned this to me. Sixto Lezcano? i used to love Sixto. Great name, plus I watched him play minor league ball for the Sacramento Solons at Hughes Stadium.
I thought she was your wife?
Sixto Lezcano is correct.
GF at the time – wife later – ex wife soon after.
Good job, you maniacs!
He was having a great year.
I wish he woulda left with her…
You know how you guys always say “good times”?
Well these weren’t!
Another guy I knew from gym retired and sold out of Silicon Valley and moved up to Del Webb community up in Lincoln. Saw him couple times after that and he said his fav thing was to get together with enough buddies for a foursome and turn into a golf road trip. They’d scout out a course within a few hours drive, arrange to spend day or night in hotel and play the course. He did pretty well on 19th too as I remember.
re Citizens United: the right-wing republicans on the SCt rejected the original arguments in the case, which avoided the head-on first amendment challenge, and that bare majority of RW justices ordered further briefing on the constitutional issue. It was an activist political power grab. Corporate overseers, having used their money in the courts and the legislatures over the decades to destroy unions in the USA, were ready to make their move. They wanted free lawful rein to buy elections and now they no longer had to worry about organized labor exercising the same “right” with any impact. If a republican Federalist-society judge takes over Ginsburg’s chair (or Breyer’s, for that matter) the rich are going to get a lot richer much faster. That issue alone should be enough to galvanize voters to dump trump.
On lifetime appointments: some federal judges make decisions, even small ones, based on an essentially political ambition to get promoted up the chain, but most develop independent approaches. They generally aren’t afraid. State court judges always have the electorate to face, one way or another. They often make decisions accordingly.
I’ve had my fill with federal judges…Prosticutor claimed I was a “threat to society” (me at 73 years old and with no criminal history). Thusly, I was placed under the custody of the U$ Mar$hals and dumped off at the Sure-Burn,the only county jail in Minnesota to show a profit. How often does a federal district court judge disobey the demands of a spokesman for the United $tate$ of America Corporation?
$ure-Burn, like the BOP joints was a mushroom farm, where they specialize in keeping you in the dark and feeding you shit. Medical care may or may not have met middle of the road Third World standards.
I’m sure many maybe most fed judges have gov. bias, but either way they’re not much afraid to act on their bent because they have astounding job security. They also have competent legal and admin staff. Many state court judges don’t. The difference between federal court and state court is the difference between the Giants ballpark at China Basin and the a’s ballpark at the E Coli. (The games played therein, though, are pretty similar, I suppose.)
79 Brewers were awesome, O’s just a little better. Mike Caldwell was on that team. Giants dumped him and D’Acquisto to STL after dismal 76 season under Rigney (who sucked) and then Caldwell got traded twice more and wound up pitching half dozen more years for BrewCrew.
Btw I mention this all the time but the D’Acquisto bio is fantastic read. No spoiler alerts but the bizarro stuff that happened to him seems to be out of Unca Chuck’s lifestyle…disasters narrowly and sometimes not, avoided.
Pavs says Kontos retired and is going to join Giants pre and post game sports channel team.
My biggest memory of Kontos is when he gave up an HR to Kershaw.
Yup, One Flapdown has Giant tastes with Big Flavor,
and sometimes ya get a fireworks show or two.
We can count it in hours now–approximately 77 of them before the flapdown at the LAtrine.
We can probably predict the Dodger lineup that night.
Betts
Muncy
Turner
Bellinger
Seager
Pederson
Smith
Hernandez
A.J. Pollock or somebody else.
That’s a lot of HR pop in the lineup swinging at the juiced ball.
Turner’s 35 now.
Injuries are a devastating thing during the mini-season. A guy pulls a hamstring and he could miss most of the season.
I think it’s easier to comeback from a hammy pull over what’s more dicey the oblique strain that Longo has.
Didn’t Longo miss time with plantar fasciitis last year as well? Longo&Belt are on the breakdown train more often then most on the team..
uh oh. News reports say that a restaurant in Placerville, CA — the Apple Bistro — is refusing to serve customers who DO wear masks. Yikes. Stay safe up there Chi. And Blade.
Trump’s influence. If he told his supporters to get onboard with masks and he did it himself, all of that would change.
I would tell the Apple Bistro that I will never go to that restaurant again. Ever.
zumiee, they happily would bar you, or me, for that matter, in perpetuity
Almost as smart as the mom who took her daughter to a covid party held by her church. The intent is to expose as many people as possible to the virus to prove it is not real, or that God will help, or that it is a lie? I really don’t know the actual reason to do something like this.
Her daughter of course was immune-compromised due to fighting cancer as a 2 year old. Now, her mom is so proud of her daughter the patriot who died from COVID at 17. In most states this would be seen as neglect, reckless endangerment or some kind of crime, but, Florida. She’ll probably get a statue.
I read about that insane situation. Some people have put out there the idea that the parents wanted the daughter to catch it, they were tired of 17 years of constant medical tending to the daughter. I find that idea not at all beyond the realm of possibility. Some investigation is in order…
Double post. Ooops.
It’s funny how something as simple as wearing a mask has exposed a good percentage of Americans as whiny, entitled assholes who have no idea what freedom is or what rights they’re entitled to. This country is filled with people who embarrass us on the daily. I hate most of the people in this country.
and this whole “love it or leave it” bullshit, man fuck that. Why do I have to go? Here’s an idea, how bout you guys all stop acting like assholes. Shouldn’t we demand that our fellow citizens not act like assholes? That seems like a pretty low bar to hit.
Where do you stand on the old “we’re the greatest country in the world” boast?
I never dug it. Good way to alienate the rest of the planet.
If something’s true you shouldn’t have to constantly announce it…
I support that claim. The US is incredible and has been since its inception. What we have always been filled with though is entitled assholes. Why do we think we’re so much better than everyone else? Be better, don’t act like you’re better. That’s what my old man taught me.
I’ve never believed in the USA #1 boast, moreso now. I’ve been to a fair few number of countries in the world in Europe, Oceania, Americas, and Asia. IMO, we’re definitely not the greatest. Which is, I’m not sure, and depends on the factors considered. If I had to choose, I’d pick Germany. I lived their off/on for a year, in my 20s. They have their issues, and political squabbles, but they don’t put their heads in the sand., they take action. Their prime minister is a Ph.D chemist, she acts on actual facts, what a concept. And, she’s the de facto leader of Europe. Canada next – it even has baseball. There are some attributes of our country that are great, but we’re not the greatest. We’re proving that in spades now, with a large minority of the country’s adults now revealed as friggin’ imbeciles, or assholes depending on how colorful you want to be, and a substantial portion of them clearly racists…
Things my old man taught me:
1) Hit the ball where it’s pitched
2) Say hello to old people – it makes their day…
I always had a thing for Canada.
Cold weather, hockey, harness racing, Molson.
And they never get involved in anything.
I’m in…
that phrase was around in 70s. riposte was “change it or dump it.” But yes, awfully low bar and now we’re all stuck here. Even if we wanted to, we up here couldn’t visit Loo let alone rest of world without a quarantine and tests
nobody from America is allowed anywhere…embarrassing
March 30 2018 second game of season Cueto shutout Dodgers down there on 1 hit through 7. giants eventually won on Panik HR off Jansen to go 2-0. Poor Cueto was done by end of July.
this was night SanDawg and I met up at Dutch Goose in Menlo Park to catch the game. Interesting crowd, good food and drink, always great to see SD. good times!
Today is the first time in a while that I’ve been excited about the Bay Bridge Series. Are they still going to give out that hideous trophy?
I love that trophy!
I like it in the way that I liked that sculpture that used to reside in CF of the Marlin’s stadium. So hideous that I kinda dig it. Golf on the other hand…
I’m already more excited about this season!
Craw will be the only member of the Bore Core that can play this weekend.
No there’s always Panda Zumie who now unfortunately will take over at 3rd..
Me I would like to go with a platoon of Zach Green and Will Wilson at 3rd!
Wilson can also play SS in a platoon with Crawbore..
Amazing that these dudes, after 4 months off from Spring, get injured within 10 days of starting up again. Those bad contracts are just going to get worse…
lulz
As we speak, Trump has tweeted that photo of him wearing a mask at Walter Reed Hospital, and now talking about how it’s patriotic to wear a mask.
It’s like we’re all living in the political satire TV show VEEP.
He’ll try to gaslight this and say that he’s always been for wearing masks.
He can read the polls.
It’s not about saving lives, to him.
*perpetuity* is one of my favorite all time words…
A pitcher of beer, a cheeseburger and fries at the Dutch Goose sounds like a world lost in time to me. I used to go in there all the time. Probably haven’t been there since 74. Loved the Oasis also great beer and burgers and fries. Now I am hungry.
loved Oasis too. Closed what year ago maybe? My parents grew up in Menlo Park, we used to visit there a lot from Sunnyvale. Dad worked at Draeger’s for many years, ran Deli dept.
Gausman to start tonite. Fangraphs, who projected Giants SPs as worst in entire NL, thought Gausman might do OK but not necessarily as starter. Thought Smrdz in for big time regression, unsure about Cueto. Beyond them, well…
MLB.com has Smarj as our most likely to be traded, with Gausepad & Slimy not far behind.
What are we gonna do next year? Bring back Marichal, Perry & Bolin?
Can’t always go by stat predictions in my book.Shark had a good solid season overall, a healthy Cueto can still spin some Luis Tiant with that new TJ arm.Gausman,Smyley and 5th starter who’s not needed to first week in Aug are the ones that need to be competitive..
Now your talking Winder!
I use to go to the Goose are Oasis after my softball games when I played a few years in Menlo Park playing at a field they called Middle House, nice field off of Middle Ave.Up in San Carlos/Redwood City softball, it would be Canyon Inn great burgers and beers,5th quarter Pizza/Burgers/ beers,Pudleys San Carlos, a few different bars as well.. Good Times Always!!
Yep, Good days of youth when livers and hips actually worked right.
we played on El Camino across the street from the mall. When I’d pop a bomb over that giant wall and the ball would bounce across El Camino into the Stanford Mall parking lot chants of “He went shopping!” would come from my dugout….
That’s right by the train trestle, I know that little park well. Saw Taj Mahal(sp) and the Garcia band there one day.
where did you see them? The Frost is the only area near there to host Jerry’s Band at least outdoor area. I saw them there once high as fuck on mushrooms, such a good time.
This was in 1967 and Taj was just making a name for himself and I don’t believe it was the Garcia band but Garcia and Saunders.
It was a free concert and the only one that I remember being at that park. A lot of Hells Angels showed up and it turned out to be a pretty cool trip. It was really hot and my friend broke into the gardners shack and turned on the sprinklers. That actually went over pretty well.
. . . see below
re-classifying the rating room rater is rating these rooms on twitter is giving me great joy during these dark times.
As a running gag, he tweaks people for having the big biography of Grant by Chernow conspicuously in the background. I actually have that book. It’s great, but about 1,000 pages long.
It’s kind of weird to watch old ballgames, and TV shows and movies, where people are in big crowds, all casual and willy-nilly about it. Seems like longer ago than it was.
Yeah, the O closed a year or so ago. I knew some people that were trying to buy it and keep it going but they couldn’t make it happen. Now it just sits there abandoned. Sad, I drive by it almost every day.
Winder, how bout a deviled egg at the Goose? Those are still epic and amazing.
Never had it. But I always liked the Goose. There was another one I used to go to quite a bit. I believe it was the Alpine inn near Portola Valley. When i think about it i guess there were a lot of good beer and burger joints pretty close by.
I still eat at the Rossati’s a few times a year. Yes, it’s now the Alpine inn but it’ll always be Rosatti’s to me.
Yanks’ pitcher drills a Phillies player in the hand. Yikes. Hope the guy is OK.
Yeah Loo re: 4:47 I think that was plan all along IF those guys were doing OK. If not, they’re stuck.
I can see SF being better offensively more bombs more runs scored. Pitching though, other than Webb, sucks.. those prospect guys like Hjelle aren’t gonna get anything out of this season, so they won’t help next year either.
As far as using guys for 3-4 innings, that will only work if you have enough depth. Pitchers A and B go Monday for 3 each or so or after an opener, they aren’t coming back for 2-3 games. So you need another 4 guys to cover your next couple games and you still need one ace guy to go 5-6+. Over 162? no way that works without lot of quality, over quantity.
Kat I used to play at Middle House too. Ever take one over those fences? I was blanco like dink hitter myself.
Played one season at Hawes in the RC too mid 80s; we practiced couple times over by Niners practice field off Roosevelt.
Yeah I took a few out at Middle Willied along with the 2 softball fields Bechet &Griffin fields off of Valota tucked back in where the 49ers use to practice.Hawes field way back when was easy to launch 🚀 a HR till they raised LF fence taller then the Green Monster to protect homes that homeowners were going ballistic over balls hitting their houses/windows /car in driveway etc..
Played a ton of softball at Burton Park starting out in a teen League at 16 years old all till my early 50’s when a lot of my teammates said they were done and passed the torch on to their own kids lol.
Burton park was a great field to play on, always kept up nice, took a good poke to drive it out in LF, but leftcenter and right center you can split the outfielders with a solid line drive and the ball would just vanish into the night!
Canyon Inn is still around I think. They have the best Niner memorabilia of all time.
The O, Kirk’s, The Goose, The Bit, Route 66, Moon McShane’s, LA Pinata, so many places, so many drinks.
Went to the Kezar Pub weekend before last with the boy. Hadn’t been there since 1969 in the words of Gen Frey,
Fuck, I am old……
Did you say hello to Newman?
Nice.
Trump’s tweet is pretty wishy-washy, though. I doubt it changes things much. Notice no mention of saving lives.
“We are United in our effort to defeat the Invisible China Virus, and many people say that it is Patriotic to wear a face mask when you can’t socially distance. There is nobody more Patriotic than me, your favorite President!”
Setting aside the fact that it looks like it was written by an elementary school student.
i normally would never consider playing a 2 game slate but I’ve spend the last 5 hours honing and crafting 11 teams at draftkings for opening day.
Strange how 95.7 FM the game used to be the A’s radio station. Now, the A’s have no radio station, they are streaming only. So, 95.7 now has a pre-game show for Giants games even though KNBR is broadcasting those games, and the 95.7 hosts basically ignore the A’s as if they don’t even exist…
the a’s should go back to KALX, where Berkeley college student Larry Baer broadcast their games circa 1980 or something like that (and where a station promo by Charlie Manson played repeatedly on the air). Students could watch the monitors and comment. They’d be better than Ray Fosse. It must suck to be an a’s fan.
Is a Jack London Square Oakland ballpark just a fantasy?
I do recall hearing A’s are reconsidering stream only approach
It wasn’t, but it may be now.
Let’s play ball!
i have been more and more impressed with Kapler the last few weeks. This guy got off to a rocky start but if you listen to him speak he is smart as fuck. We’ll see how that translates to wins
A’s fans did well with the cut-outs in the stands.
The ‘crowd noise’ sounds like an airplane.
No drums?
Just a weird swirling white noise sound. I’m hearing some “Apocalypse Now.”
none of those fucking soccer horns either
Others may have mentioned this, but I am looking forward to seeing the reconfigured O, tomorrow.
No, you’re the only one, Chi…
Plus 100, Loo. 😂
Nice play by Flores at 3b.
He can do everything but run…
he’s got an arm to play over there. Surprised he’s there and Sando at 1b.
yeah, that’s got to be Pablo’s problem, not Wilmer’s. The TJ surgery, the big Spring gut, don’t bode well. And now he doesn’t get a chance to show that he can hit RH. Think he’d accept assignment to Sactown?
Normally Giants fans make a lot of noise in the Oakland stands during these crosstown games. This “crowd” only chatters for the a’s.
Good first inning for Gausman
Flav, curious–what impresses you about Kapler?
Like the 4 outfielders Kapler thru at Olson.Freaked him out so muck he struck out!
It’s OK, Big Guy, it’s just a baseball game.

JDavis, Kat!
Yeah that’s my boy Chi! Keep playing him every game!
There’s less product in Craw’s hair.
And appears to be less of Craw. He was kinda thick last year…
This is nothing I ever expected to see in the 50+ years I have been watching baseball.
Slater clearing the bags….
yeah. Manaea looks like shit. A’s f up the relay? That was the C scored the last run on that play.
Was this the follow-up to your post above, haha?
Wasn’t planned that way Mac, but that’s how it all fell into place. See if they can hold-on and win this “don’t count” games.
Yeah Slater ripping a 3 run double for his second hit!
How about them Giants!!
