A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Good Things Happening

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 26, 2020

Well, yesterday was fun. The Giants got their first win and I received many the kudos for being a good son and surprising my mom. I have several friends who have recently lost one of their parents and that video was good for them to see.

Thinking about Stix comment regarding starters moving to the pen, I remember Lincecum’s PS success in 2012.
Had the Giants or any other team kept him in that role, he might’ve lasted a little longer.
There’s a real need for that now more than ever…

  3. willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 26, 2020 at 9:57 am

Loo I thought so too about value of Lincecum in pen at the time. He didn’t want to do it I don’t think, and I imagine lot of other SPs aren’t thrilled about either. We’ll have to see how Kapler’s rotation (and relievers) sorts itself out.
After day off tomorrow Giants have games for next 16 consecutive days. Back end of that is 4 in Colorado 3 at LA again and 3 at Houston. yikes

  4. willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 26, 2020 at 10:02 am

Roberts has so much depth at his disposal. Barnes doesn’t hit much but yesterday he brought Smith in to replace him and he yanks one off Gott out the yard in 9th. this guy hit 15 bombs last season though he slumped at end, only hitting .175 over last month, 2 bombs.
Still–bottom line on how many HRs Giants get out of C position this season, including Bart–I say 5 tops.

  5. willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 26, 2020 at 10:27 am

Dodgers have 2 @ Stros Tue Wed, so apparently saving Buehler for tougher match up–Giants get LHP Urias today. Saw one listing of Smyly as giants SP, but we’ll see.
Giants LU vs. LHP seems better suited than vs. RHP, Dickerson being only casualty of note.

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 26, 2020 at 11:04 am

So what is Kapler’s thinking of Shark?
Making him is secret weapon closer soon?

    • Carstie Clausen's avatar Carstie Clausen said, on July 26, 2020 at 11:14 am

Yes, its LH starter/closer Urias, a genuine Mexican who somehow preferred baseball to soccer and who hails from Sinaloa and likely has fans in the cartel who will cheer for the LaBumbos as long as their hombrecito is with the Dogs. Urias showed some impressive dual-role stats last year. One does need to hand it to LA for their scouting and evaluation people. It must take a few cojones to do your scouting in Sinaloa.

BTW: Is Kaps playing head-games with Roberts or merely doing his thang? Starter for SF tonight is that celebrated pitcher: TBD.

      • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 26, 2020 at 12:09 pm

One game I would skip if I was in LA and wanted to see a Giants/Dodger game would to see Urias start.
He brings out all the gangs/cartel/ lowlifes that would probably fuck with you in the stands/ parking lot ala Bryan Stow, total pass for me..

  6. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 26, 2020 at 11:02 am

Yeah if Dennis Eckersely did not begrudgingly become a closer( best move ever by LaRussa, who I can’t stand) he would never be a Hall of Famer today! Besides Rivera nobody dominated like Eck did..

Twins and White Sox took turns tromping each other. Minnesota racked up a mess of runs on Friday and Chicago yesterday. Today Nelson Cruz led the Twinks with SEVEN RBI’s and has 10 on his three game season, one more than the Giants hitters over the same number of games–ALL the Giants hitters. Outfielder Nick Cave contributed an early salami to highlight his five Ribbies.

Though throwing a bunch of pitches, Kenta Maeda held the Sox to two runs. Their nasty bullies were nearly untouchable. Should Minnesota keep up their pace I’d take their loaded lineup vs the LaBumbos any day of the week. With yesterday’s game as an exception, it looks as if the TC team is on Cruz control.

Current listing on the MLB official site has one Pence, Hunter as DH and batting CLEANUP. Can anybody fill me in on this guy? Seems he was in his native state of Texas last season. Again, from that site Drew Smyly gets the nod starting against Uriah Heep of the Sinaloa Sunshine Squad. So tell me this, is Kapler screwing with Roberts’ head again or is this for real. Oh yes, there’s veteran presence in the infield–Brandon Crawford. No Dickerson vs the LHP.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on July 26, 2020 at 8:27 pm

Flemming’s KNBR pitch by pitch analysis, with background info, of the Turner AB was brilliant. Krukow essentially shouted agreement in the background about the ump’s mistakes. Turner crowds the plate and spins away from pitches on the inside corner he can’t turn on, trying to draw a ball call. The ump fell for it tonight.

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on July 26, 2020 at 8:29 pm

It’s weird. Miller, Flemm and Krukow are watching the same tv feed we’re watching and commenting on that, not on what they might see on the field and then on monitors. So it’s not at all like a normal broadcast. It’s actually a lot more interesting, especially with all three of them adding info.

The lack of power in the lineup. It’s hard to string a lot of singles together.

2 hits and a rbi, nice night. I like him in CF too.

he’s looked fine out there so far, though he should’ve taken charge on that fly ball to the gap that he and Yaz converged on. Maybe should’ve told Yaz to take it.

xoot – thanks for the heads-up on KNBR. LOVE listening to Miller and crew over the ESPN clowns.

They need to leave Crawford and Pence in LA…nice piece of hitting by Dubon. Need to get his confidence up at the plate…

I forgot that Crawford has one more year at $15M – no buyout and full no-trade.
Makes my 8:19 question out of the question…

I don’t see how he or Pence can add jackshit to the team this season.

easy Loo. they could have told him straight up–hey we want to go in different direction, where can we look to send you? My guess Crawford would take chance to play for contender rather than sit bench and be pinch hit for and taken out vs. LHP.
