14 Marlins caught this shit. FOURTEEN! Wow. Two games cancelled so far today. This feels like MLB’s Rudy Gobert moment. Let’s see what happens.

Yeah, this doesn’t look good for the future of this year. It was probably a bad idea to start this year anyway. Didn’t get a chance to see the game yesterday but it looks like a lot of the guys we want to see started contributing. Especially the pitching the last couple of games. If we can limit the damage from a lineup like the stinking Dodgers have we are definitely on the right track.
Pitching and D. There were some nice catches in the OF, too. The Giants just played some relatively clean ball for a change (as opposed to how they played in the first two).
Yep big difference on D.
Yeah the moment all feared. I had thought it was probably an asinine decision of trying to play in everyone’s home park instead of consolidating everything into about 6 sites. Lets hope this shit does not blow up. They should close Philly now and not have anyone play there for 2 weeks. Have this Philly Yanks series moved to NY…
SOME kinda smart moves need to be made asap, or the season is toast. Will Manfred and his brain-trust be on top of this or will the season be toast?
Flodgers should just be told that they have been voided for the season…
I commented last week after the A’s scrimmage that I oddly thought our pitching staff may be built to excel in this 60 game expanded roster schedule and Thurs-Fri games started off well and some less pitch squeezing by the ump and fielding errors could have kept both games close late.
With the mix of vet arms (still have not used Smardj) and unseen bullpen guys, limited innings and expanded rosters, we really could keep team’s hitters off balanced…
Now just hope Crawford Pence Belt test positive and they get told to stay home…for the whole season…
Main thing will be to keep up the intensity they always bring to the LAtrine. If this mix n’ match conglomeration of has-beens, wanna-be’s and never-were’s can keep up the pace they could just possibly become the darlings of the inner baseball world. There’s no book on this current edition of the Giants and dealt that oddball hand, Kapler has masterfully juggled his assets.
Your assessment of the composition of the staff may be accurate, GH. Way Kapler plays his cards prevents the opponents from digging in by knowing what’s coming. The mix n’ match menagerie on the mound befuddled the LaBumbos…what was it, four or five singles and one lonely, miserable double from the redoubtable LaLaPalookas against a mess of singles and unaccountable stolen bases by Heinie and Ruf along with solid defense and moundsman who simply would not give in made for a wonderful win.
Phillies/Yankees game cancelled for today since the Marlins just played the Phillies..Yeah not looking good!
Prognosticators, pundits and poobahs will all be dining on delicious fricassee of crow after the weekend games. Media hypersonalities were all about the greatness of the LaBumbos, ready to anoint them with chrisms and fine oils prior to their coronation as the most dominant team ever. Sweetest touch is that Zaidi and Kapler have come back to haunt them–on their own turf, even. This may have been one of the greatest David and Goliath confrontations since the days of the Miracle Mets.
Sure and we’re only one-fifteenth of the way through the season, but there is no question that the cast-offs, the scrubbinees and the kids were up for this one. Who says guts and grit don’t count for shit. We won em fair and square despite their even getting a bit of help from the umps and lavish treatment from the blatherers on ESPN. Time to break out the champagne even if we don’t win one more game in this once again threatened season,
Agree on the concerns with the positive tests, and none of us should be surprised. I hope they can tamp it down and keep playing, as I am enjoying watching baseball again. Time will tell.
With Longo and Belt due back soon (Thursday I think) Giants have to clear 2 roster spots.
Both of them could be of some use. Pence and Crawford should “suffer” some mysterious injuries. Belt’s value is as a good defensive first-baseman, in facing RH pitchers and because of his high OBP (still maintained even last season). Longoria is basically solid, has a whiff of remaining EXBH power and could marshal the role of a solid veteran presence in the infield. They are platooning candidates and Kapler should try to use only one of them in any given lineup.
I agree that the two who need to go (mysterious injuries, whatever) is Craw and Pence. Probably won’t happen.
Pence should be one of those cuts. Encouraging leader can only take you so far.
Just thought you guys would want to see what Big Flavor is doing….losing
And here is the result. Big Flavor’s struggling worse than our Giants…
in my (slight) defense: my stepdad was down the fairway marking the balls and he yelled out “that’s the winner!” on my final drive. False hope. We got down there and it was indeed a few yards farther than Chris’ best but it was about 6 feet off the fairway. So……loser.
I thought my video stalled during that stance!!!
I see Chris uses the Jim McMahon technique of going barefoot 🦶 must work, he looked like he crushed that drive
How long?
285
Ahhhh. Funny, played with my daughter a couple times last week and she hit past the group in from of us twice. Well, the lagger in their group. The second one though went over 300 yards as she hit the cart path on the first bounce. This ain’t it, but here ‘s Christina in action.
This Marlins thing — not surprising.
They are out in the community between games, and S. Florida is full of Covid. They brought it with them to Phllly.
There are so many infected, I should think the whole team and staff has to be quarantined for a period. So, they’d have to postpone or forfeit a number of games, which renders the schedule somewhat illegitimate. Maybe they can go on if they just bar the Marlins from any more playing. You can’t substitute 30 guys from the taxi squad and have single A players playing major league opposition…
This is why they created the taxi squad…11-12 players positive, they should have 30 ready to go….every team has the ability to go through a couple of these moments…
If MLB with all that comprehesive testing and all these safety protocols, supposedly, but exposed to the outside world, still generates an outbreak like this in a team, how praytell, are k-12 schools supposed to open for physical classes? Even ballplayers likely have more self control than 4th graders. Open schools in Florida, or anywhere else with so many in the population carrying Covid? Insane…
Agree, but the challenge we’re dealing with is that we have two boys ages 11 and 8 and we struggled to keep them focused on on-line education during the spring. And that was only a few hours a week since schools were trying to make sense of it all. How the hell are schools going to handle teaching kids that age for 5 or more hours a day, five days a week. This whole situation is a mess. We’re fortunate in that we both work from home and can help the boys try to maintain focus as much as possible. I really feel for the parents that have to go into work and especially the teachers.
I have a few friends who are teachers. It is an absolute train-wreck for everyone. No one wins…not the students, not the teachers, not the parents. I am grateful my kids are grown, but do have concerns for my grand daughter (8, soon to be 9).
Right there with you joe. My MIL and wife are both former elementary school teachers so we’re sympathetic but it is a total shit show. Our oldest (13) is mostly self directed and did fine to close the year and will be the same with school starting up. Our youngest (7) – not so much. He needs a lot of help and direction which is understandable. We’re fortunate in that we’re working from home too but not looking forward to trying managing a 5 hour day of homeschooling.
Did I see the other day that you’ve tested positive? Hope you’re alright man.
Assuming there is a season, the Giants have some decisions to make in the weeks ahead.
In approx. a week, the rosters go down to 28. Then in two weeks after that (Aug. 20?) the rosters are at 26 (27 if a DH).
Crawford seems disinterested (and is the worst hitter in baseball since the 2018 All-Star game). Pence and Sandoval are taking up at bats from players who have to be evaluated.
A lot can change between now and Aug. 20 (Heck, the Giants could even be in contention for a playoff spot).
But with Belt and Longoria coming back, the Giants have to eventually cut down 6 players to get to 26 on or around Aug. 20
Who do you think those 26 players should be?
Barring trades, releases, injuries, I have;
C – Bart (who replaces Brantly)
Heineman
INF- Belt, Dubon, Flores, Longoria, Ruf, Solano
OF- Davis, Dickerson, Slater, Yaz
SP – Cueto, Shark, Hausman, Smyly, Webb
RP – Gott, Watson, Rogers, S. Anderson, Baragar, Coonrod, Jiminez, Peralta, Menez That leaves off T. Anderson, Garcia.
I have no doubt the above listed roster will be bare no resemblance on Aug. 20.
I can see the Giants keeping 14 P and 12 Pos players. No Crawford (who does provide defensive leadership in the INF). no Pence, no Sandoval.
that’s a good group. Only caveat to keeping an extra pitcher is you are left with 3 man bench. A’s played it that way last year but they have lot more power (etc.) than Giants do. I’m sure pitching staff is state of flux and unpredictable.
I think Panda offers some diversity and is more deserving to stay…with this covid Marlin outbreak they should agree to keep the active rosters bigger.
I like the way you think, I just am unsure if they would not include Crawford (I agree with you…just not sure it will fly this way). Will be interesting, regardless.
mlb should incorporate covid quarantine and forfeiture into the competitive scheme. Any teams that stay virus free get an advantage — more games, more potential wins. It’d be something like a f1 season. The trade deadline would be wild and the virus toll would be morbid, but we’d have some baseball.
One potential advantage I saw of expanded playoffs– more teams in contention provides better opportunities for sellers.
I’ve heard anecdotal stuff on radio about multiple teams with players randomly wearing/not wearing masks in dugouts, high fiving, and other risky behavior. I think repeats of the Marlins situation with more teams are headed MLB’s way. Just a matter of time. Question is at what point the number of teams with it does the season become really not a season. I’m concerned about older dudes like Dusty being put at risk in the middle of this…
Before start of Giants game yesterday, Roberts, who had mask on, was talking to another coach in dugout who did not.
Wow, if the head coach isn’t following rules, then WTF?…
I never understood how home schooling works.
Is there a curriculum to follow?
What if the parents are complete morons?
Who’s gonna flunk their own kid?
Do you print your own diploma?
WTF???
Before the virus the people i knew who home schooled their kids all had money and hired licenced tutors to come and teach the kids. The families did this to keep their kids from most of the influences that going to public or private schools are surrounded with.
I think you have to pass some type of high school equivalency but dont think thatvis much of a problem for most traditional home schoolers….if my wife is not here I guarantee you I am not dealing with the 9th and 7th graders and their course work…if they cant figure it out oh well!!!
“If they can’t figure it out oh well!!!” That’s the way to support the future generation. SMH…
they do exist within a group too, and get together for group stuff. I knew a girl who did this through middle school who was good basketball player too and that’s how mom kept her active. Turns out the kid loved math and was 2-3 years ahead of school grade group. Mom said if she stuck her in school she’d be bored, screw around and develop bad study habits.
During the first games, all throughout MLB there were players not following all the virus protocols. The Giants were better than most. But all teams were high-giving and forearm bopping. Players were clustered in the dugouts, sometimes without masks. Guys were celebrating in each other’s faces.
The players weren’t taking it totally seriously. They probably will take it more seriously now.
If baseball teams with all the supposed testing and half the personnel on a squad of the NFL and no repetitive physical contact like football, can’t get this S together, I really don’t see how the NFL or certainly, college football, without a bubble, can have a “season”…
Craw’s gotta figure out how to use the whole field, or he’s going to hit under .200 this season. He’s just pounding balls into the shift. Some of the Giants got opposite field singles against the shift this past weekend.
Hey Dirt, I actually got the test results back on Friday night. I tested negative. I have to admit there was a selfish part of me that kind of hoped I had it, since I wasn’t feeling that terrible to begin with.
glad to hear it.
Good news (?), Wilco. Glad you are well.
Pretty nuts if true
If that’s true, then the whole program is out of control.
You can have a vote whether to put the opposition and umpires and others at known risk without their input?…
Sometimes it just bad luck Zumiee, Crawford hit a line drive over the pitchers head but found Turner right there behind second, and has hit a few more hard, but yeah the shift has affected him for sure so your theory of spreading the ball around better has a valid point!
Now is there in cure for Pence other then his walking papers?
If the Giants still feel they need him around for inspiration couldn’t they just put a cutout of him in the dugout to stare at the rest of the year?
Nobody knew how to handle this virus from the beginning and they still really don’t.
It’s a problem with no solution.
It’s every man for himself…
Sorry Loo, you couldn’t be more wrong. There was a pandemic task force in place when Trump took over. He chose to disband the agency and send home 49 of the 53 people in the field keeping tabs on local outbreaks.
I don’t think they would’ve known how to handle it even if he doubled it.
Just my opinion, which I’ve learned is about as useful as Fauci’s or any other so called expert…
Bullshit. Inaction for 4-6 weeks made this 40x worse than it should have been.
Please don’t yell at me in front of Frank.
I don’t want him to get the wrong idea about this place…
lqtm!
J. H. Christ on a crutch – all this pissing & moaning about Pence, Craw & Belt and mind numbing second guessers on potential roster composition – We Took TWO out of Four from the F’n DOGers guys –
The freaking over F’n rated anointed pre season champions
Damn – we gifted the DOGers two games due to mental errors and rookie jitters in the field.
The team clearly evolved mentally and improved every game – in my opinion this evolution was a result of FORMAL leadership & preparation from Kap & his coaches & informal leadership from the veterans .
This staff leadership provided an environment for confidence & commitment by the players.
Kapler doesn’t have a lot of tools to play with here – several fringe major league-rs and inexperienced rookies – the vets who have successfully navigated full season grinds & won RINGS are critical components – lets not discount the unseen contributions of the Belts, Crawford’s & Pence s.
Longo & Belt will provide some MUCH NEEDED power to a patchwork lineup.
I agree with a lot of what you say, but Craw and Pence look done to me.
I am with you, Zume…
It’s 2 games Frank. We won despite those guys.
Is this the same Belt who hit 2 HRs at home all year 2019? Like Longoria his much needed power mostly comes on the road. Hey Longo I have less problem with than the others, but Giants have younger and better options these days than all of them. So do you want to improve or watch groundhog years all over again in 2021?
PS; really enjoy the banter and shared knowledge I read on this site – all ya all obviously have been communicating with each other for a while and have developed a strong passion for our GIANTS and consistent mutual respect for each other. – Thank you for the venue & the enjoyment.
Welcome, Frank. Yes, many here have been talking Giants ball for over 10 years (back to the Splash on the Chron), and thankfully, now through Craig’s blog, here. There are a number of us who have met for games, too. It’s a great group with whom to share the Giant experience. Lot’s of good baseball knowledge here.
Other nations have been successful against the virus, because it was taken very seriously by their nation’s leader and national government.
But we have a complete buffoon as president, and his political party enables him and tries to please him always. Turning mask-wearing into a “controversy” is an example of that. Trump killed tens of thousands of people. He played golf again over the weekend. A total sociopath.
Some things Trump could have done:
-A national mask mandate, led by himself
-Made the manufacture of masks and other PPE a big federal thing, like going to war vs. the virus
-Made testing a big federal thing, like going to war
Trump did the complete OPPOSITE. He downplayed the virus and just hoped it would magically disappear.
In a game over the weekend, I saw a pitcher being removed from the game, and he started walking off the mound, but then remembered to get his resin bag. (Each pitcher has their own now.) He started walking toward the bag and one of his teammates picked up the resin bag and handed it to him.
It’s just a little thing, but it struck me as an indicator that some of the players don’t fully get it.
Looks like a vaccine is the only way out of this. Seems like all big pharma is racing to get to the finish line first. Hopefully we will have something pretty soon.
In their little features highlighting various performances from the previous day there was nada, zip about one of the most exciting events to date–Giants taking two in a row from the heavily favored baby Boyz in Blue…Didn’t wanna embarrass them, I guess…or for that matter all the pundits, prognosticators and poobahs who were praising LA to the highest heavens. Perhaps second only to Nelson Cruz’ fireworks, the Giants wins were, speaking as a recovering journalist, a story.
For a man that was embarrassing to watch throw a baseball opening day DrAnthony Fauci is the alltime record holder for Topps baseball card selling 51,512 in a 24 hr period smashing the previous record of Toronto Bluejays Guerrero’s mark of a ere 19,000 plus which included his 1st big league hit..
Bill, I’d put Anderson ahead of Rogers at this point.
Regarding a vaccine for the virus, in a recent poll, 1/4 of the people said they would never take the vaccine when it’s available.
You kind of just have to shake your head.
They should be given a choice. Take the vaccine or get infected with the virus.
Even then, they wouldn’t.
Frank, with all due respect, the bore core, flab four, long and winding turds (Belt, Posey [now Pence], Longo, and Crawford all need to ride to the pine or hit the road. They have been thorns in this team’s side for 3+ seasons now.
Boston during their rebuild jettisoned a lot of bad deals and moved on. This team needs to do the same. Regardless of a couple wins. I seriously doubt they won’t do it, so we all will get used to a line up of old players who are not interested in anything long term, because they are not part of the future.
Crawford is absolutely asleep at the wheel so far. He gives new meaning to playing out the string. Pence has more outs than ABs, and the return Belt and Long only makes the rebuild all the more stagnant.
The Dodgers bailed out the Red Sox big time a few years ago.
Carl Crawford, A-Gon, maybe Hanley, too?
Yep, the previous Dodger ownership group was abysmal. Lucky for us.
Yeah I cant disagree with any of that unca_chuck – the bore core etc are all past their productive years. I guess my frustration is with the fact its all we have right now . IAs has been suggested in many previous flapper posts – shame on ownership for a lack of long term vision for a not developing and executing a consistent competitive strategy several years ago.
Prior to the pandemic turning our daily lives inside out, I don’t believe any of us were expecting to make the playoffs this or next season, however, I do believe we have the necessary pieces and field management/leadership to make the road to the top seed in the playoffs a very bumpy ride for the media darling Dogers.
Weather or not Sabeen- Zaidi- Minasian- Kapler et all are will work together to develop & execute a proactive turn around remains to be seen.
Until this plan takes form, this ill conceived season & this poorly constructed baseball team is all we have and I’m going to end zone dance every GIANTS win over the Dogers , enjoy reading the thoughts, ideas & posts on this site, and wear the Black & Orange in So Cal every chance I get – Prong the Dogers, Trump and all conspiracy theorists….Amen !!!!!!!
“A’s star Matt Olson is taking all precautions to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The slugger was wearing a mask while playing first base in Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.”
So why wasn’t he taking all precautions before? That’s what I’d ask him.
They’re still having mound conferences where they cover their faces with their gloves.
The mask is the perfect solution to that…
Yes, totally agree.
And tonight’s starting pitcher for your Boston Red Sox:
Josh (O’Shit) Osich!
Where’s Ocrap Okert?
They should always be on the same team.
Petit is still pitching well for the A’s. Going to the A’s revived his career.
The A’s gave up on Treinen after one bad season. That surprised be. I’d forgotten the Dodgers picked him up.
I think Z whiffed on that one, maybe over $$; would’ve loved to have him instead of Gausman.
Yeah Treinen was a incredible lockdown closer for the A’s.One bad season should not of been counted against him.Giants missed the boat not going after him, as I recall he was on the market for awhile? He would be are closer for years right now..
I wonder if teams thought he had blown out his arm.
Belt hit .211 vs. LHP, 5 HRs (not 2 as I posted above) at home vs. 12 on the road. So if Kapler trusts his analytics the only time you play him is vs. RHP and not at home where his OPS is 60 points lower. He’s been here for 8 yrs. and is 32 yrs old now…he is what he is, strictly a platoon player/defensive late inning replacement.
Starting tomorrow Giants play 16 consecutive days in a row which will tax pitching. 4 of those are in Giants house or horrors at Coors Nepal, and last 6 are 3 each with Dodgers and Astros, both on road (10 of 16).
Using 7 pitchers like Kapler did yesterday just isn’t sustainable. He’s gonna need to see SPs stretching out and eating up significantly more (and better) innings
Giants schedule for the entire season, if it happens, is brutal. The only respite is 2 and 2 with Seattle. If there were no Covid, I wouldn’t mind going up to Seattle and watching a game or two up there, along with doing other things. A salmon salad lunch on the deck at Ray’s Boathouse in N. Seattle, right on the bay, is glorious if the sun is out. The snowcapped Olympics in the distance, and the bay in front of you, is a fantastic way to spend a long lunch…

Kapler needs to get a better handle on his starting Pitchers.Cueto wanted to go longer than the 60 pitches he threw and was upset getting pulled.Gausman signed to be a starter and was not thrilled coming out of the pen in his first game.Shark I don’t even know what his reasoning is holding him back? I’m sure he’s not to happy either.
He just better get a better handle on the roles of these pitchers going forward are it could get ugly with dissension among the ranks..
i’ve been looking at the 16 game stretch since the schedule issued. Nine on the road, ending in Houston. At a minimum: Craw will opt out before the flight to the lone star hot spot. And, I bet, Bart will get the call. How would you like to be him, making that decision?
If Craw opts out now, does he just get paid pro rata for the 4 LA games he was active?
For example, what does Craw get/year? $14 million? If he opted out today, he’d get:
$14 million /162 = $86K / game x 4 games in LA = $345K ? …
Ever since the horrific family tragedy and the go fund me page, I kind of assumed Craw’s not about to leave any money on the table. Of course, I know nothing about his personal matters, but on the surface it sure seemed odd…

Drumpf has cancelled his throwing out the first ball at a Yankees game on Aug 15. Apparently too busy handling the Covid crisis. Seems that’s no big deal, since the Yankees hadn’t heard that he was coming, he made the whole thing up. From the NYTimes:
“There was one problem: Mr. Trump had not actually been invited on that day by the Yankees, according to one person with knowledge of Mr. Trump’s schedule. His announcement surprised both Yankees officials and the White House staff.
But Mr. Trump had been so annoyed by Dr. Fauci’s turn in the limelight, an official familiar with his reaction said, that he had directed his aides to call Yankees officials and make good on a longtime standing offer from Mr. Levine to throw out an opening pitch. But no date was ever finalized.”
trump and his staff are focused now on throwing out the first amendment
Hahaha!
(NYer)
It’s well-documented that Trump recently pressured the U.S. Ambassador to Britain to take actions to try to get the British Open at a Trump golf course in Scotland. The Ambassador didn’t want to do it, but ended up trying and failing.
Trump denies it of course.
It’s unethical and probably illegal by Trump.
Just another day of the Trump crap-show presidency.
On the other side of the sea: my contacts in Ireland alerted me to this story. Rich USA tourists slipping in, ignoring the quarantine rules, and threatening Ireland’s very successful re-opening.

sorry
Hey Flappers, just checking in on a Tuesday morning from Saigon with a bit of a Corona update from “over here”, just in case you’re interested. Vietnam has been way ahead of the curve on this thing right from the start, but now some unsettling developments and who knows how global this will become again.
* After those amazingly wonderful 99 days with no new cases in the country, new cases have popped up in Danang (central coast) and this thing is about to explode again. If the virus was gone from in-country, how did this happen? Appears to have been brought in from a couple dozen Chinese nationals who entered the country illegally (I mentioned this on the Flap a week or so ago when it was just becoming known). Now the rumors abound that China is deliberately introducing new strains. I doubt that, but rumors will fly. Whatever… this is going to be bad again. So, yeah, Xoot, distressing to read about people bringing the thing into other countries.
* VNmese Gov’t has done an amazing job up until now. They did a great job up in Hanoi isolating things until it all exploded in early March at a hospital, then they had to lock down the whole country. This time too in Danang: 3 hospitals became the hot beds. Once that happens, bam, it’s out of control when you think about the thousands of people who have come and gone from those hospitals before knowing the virus was there and all the traveling domestic tourists who were flying and busing around the country the past week. Already a case in Saigon, and we are surely heading for another lockdown. Have class today and everyone must wear masks again. That’s not going to last long either; probably will be teaching from home starting next week. Or not at all. I’m ready to just escape to a beachside shack….
* One doctor in Danang said that in analyzing the new virus that surfaced there, it appears to be an altogether new strain. They say the new one appears to be more contagious. Great…….
Well, I was fortunate to have the past 3 months of “open” and “normal” after the 3 months of lockdown…. Let’s see what the next 3 months bring. Stay safe, Flap Universe…
Thanks for the update, Paul. It’s very interesting to hear what’s happening there.
Well, you all shut it down once. Doing that again won’t be pleasant, but at least you know you can do it. I wish we could. Meanwhile, diagnoses and treatments get better every day. That’s what I’m counting on, unless I manage to hang on to Vaccine Day. 😉
Thanks for the update, Paul. It is always good to get firsthand news from other locations. Stay positive and test negative my friend.
Better get your kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames…
I plan to move to the beach, quit drinking, and surf smoothly through the sharks for a few years
I hope you do!
ESPN announcers so bad. The one guy (not Arod or Tim K) talked about Craw. talked about his having the 4th worst OPS in all MLB last year. Talked about a rif between kapler and Craw re his preperation. Said it was it patched up between them, but then Crawford pinch hit for saturday. Like that was odd, like it was Kapler being vindictive over the scrap. 10 seconds after pointing out he was the 4th worst hitter in the league. Dumb fuck
Xoot, that’s the rallying cry here: we did it before, we can do it again. It was actually amazing to see how quickly the people responded to the news of new cases: Gov’t communicated immediately about the Danang situation, and one hour later I was out and about here in Saigon and everyone, and I mean everyone was wearing masks again. Didn’t even wait to hear if it was appearing down here in the south. You all might be interested at some point to see the kind of info that comes from the gov’t: hourly details of each new case and exactly where and when that person had spent time over the previous days. Everyone has their tracer; if they had been in those places, they check in and stay home. Personally for me, lockdown up in Hanoi was very dark. I’m happy just to be in Saigon for this next round. Well… not happy, per se…
Anyway, it will be interesting to see how the story unfolds about a) is it a new strain?, and b) WTF with these Chinese nationals coming in illegally and bringing the new virus. Could be quite the story. I just want to fucking stay alive. And yeah, Loo, get in a few kicks while I can….
Stay safe, Paul. Here in the Bay Area, we’re ok. (Please don’t tell trump about the Chinese infiltrators.)
Sadly, the infiltrators part of the story is the most disturbing. Supposedly all of them have been arrested and isolated, plus the “ring leader” who organized the transit… he’s VNmese of Chinese descent. You know there’s more; that northern border with China has some holes, as does the border with Cambodia. But it would take a lot of *coordination* … meaning, bribes… to get that many people through. And those are just the ones we know about. Ugh. Trying not to feel dark again.
Amazing story how the country and its people handling things. New strains seems to be an evolving story, unhealthy tourists not. So many unhealthy stories here—there was big one recently in SF Chron about a couple who had clandestine wedding planned at Church with complicity of others, yada yada.
How the fuck does Elroy Face go 18-1 in 1959, finish 7th in the NL MVP vote but not get a single Cy Young vote?
I think Rod Beck got a similar type screwing in ’93…
18-1 is an incredible season Loo.
I’m just guessing Elroy Face being a reliever that baseball did not recognize them back then and only starters.Stupid for sure which changed since then for relievers (Marshall,Eck etc) but should of been in effect when someone puts up a season like that!
Excellent answer, Kat…
4 more Marlins tested +.
Total of 17 now.
They’ve postponed Phills v Yankees. With incubation, Phills won’t know if any of them will be infected for a few days, at least. How do you expose Yankees to a possible spread? You can’t…
So cut Miami loose and keep on playing. They’d be like an f1 car crashing early in the race.
Love the analogy…LOL.
I’m hearing something like they’re not married to the 60 game schedule and would just go by winning percentage. If that’s the case, why not just quarantine the Marlins for 14 days?
%? naw. Race to the finish. Top winners in the PS.
maybe some creative rescheduling at the end when teams start to clinch
Really they should quarantine Phillies team the way they played against Marlins..
Reading ‘Life’ by Keith Richards. Some amazing stuff in there.
yeah good one.
Thought this was pretty cool.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes has joined the Royals ownership group.
And with that, Mahomes becomes the youngest part-owner in sports history. “We are very proud and excited to have Patrick as our partner in the ownership group of this franchise,” Royals chairman and CEO, and principal owner John Sherman said in a statement. “Along with the rest of Kansas City, I have watched Patrick compete and become an extraordinary leader, both on and off the football field.” There’s obvious baseball connections here, as his father Pat pitched 11 seasons in the big leagues, including five with the AL Central rival Twins. The football superstar was a promising baseball prospect before deciding to focus on one sport. We’re on the baseball beat here, but it looks like he made a good choice. Still, he’s found a way to get involved in MLB and support the local team.
So, the league is going to have a playoffs regardless of how many games are played? Isn’t that special? So,the Phillies are still in the chase despite playing 26 games?
Remember the ’72 strike season, the Tigers played one more game than the Red Sox — 86-70 / 85-70 — and won the AL East by a half-game.
a jury convicted Dana Stubblefield of rape yesterfday. 15 yrs to life a possibility

great Peter Green tribute going on this hour on wwoz New Orleans station.
thx
wtf? now Peter Green and Duane Allman jamming with the Dead at the Fillmore? there’s one I haven’t heard before
Wow. Amazing how much crazy stuff is out there. I think someone from the Bill Graham Foundation is releasing a ton of shows from Winterland from the 70s. There’s a Lynyrd Skynyrd show I saw, a Tubes show I saw, and a Robin Trower show I saw all available online. Nuts.
Would love to see/hear the Peter Green and Duane playing with the Dead. I knew that Duane played with the Dead on occasion, but was not aware of Peter Green. Man – Green, Duane and Jerry. What a fucking line-up of guitarists.
Saw Dylan, Jerry., and Neil Young back in ’75. One of my first concerts. At Kezar.
Helluva show, I am sure, Charlie. I would be partial to the Green/Allman show, as I have always loved the Peter Green era of Fleetwood Mac, and also the Allman Brothers (they were the first jam band I ever listened to/fell in love with).
Subject to change . . .
Yastrzemski CF
Sandoval 1B
Flores 3B
Dickerson DH
Heineman C
Crawford SS
Davis RF
McCarthy LF
Dubon 2B
Samardzija P
Put Dubon at short, Solano at 2nd, and Crawfish in the pot and I’d be thrilled.
Also, Tromp added to roster, Brantly DFA’d.
I thought Wolfgang’s Vault put out Bill Graham’s fillmore and winterland stuff. They probably are part of the Bill Graham foundation. If they kept all recordings of their shows then they got years and years worth of stuff.
I have no idea who is releasing it, just that I’ve seen a bunch of old black and white footage of shows I saw 45 years ago. Bizarre to say the least.
Like this. I was in 8th grade about to turn 14. Just getting my loadie life started . . . this says musicvault.com
Loved the bass player/singer James Dewar. Awesome talent.
Nice.
I saw Trower in Tulsa OK back in ’74 (when Bridge of Sighs was released). Great show. Dude can flat fucking play a guitar.
Ah, Wilmet at 3b Pablo at 1b. That combo almost got Taylor kilt. wilmet’s exciting, at bat and in field.
So—who gets Giants first HR at home? I’m taking Dickerson off Davies tonite.
Good pick.
I’m going with Jazz Yaz
2nd choice my boy Jaylin
Can’t wait for our lefty bats to start peppering blasts into the new short porch in right center…
Winterland was my second home during the 70’s a fantastic place to see a concert!
Any new releases of music 🎶 coming from there would be priceless to see knowing I was probably at one of the shows.
Skynyrd ’76 in out there.
Marlins out of action until Sunday.
Re-scheduling of games…

you hope this can be contained (no Phils tested positive) and the players are OK. But voting to play the Sunday game with the Phils, even without their buddies 3 of whom had tested positive beforehand, not a great idea. Rojas the SS and kind of unofficial captain said vote was never in doubt; Mattingly kind of backdoored his way out of it also not good. And yes, the league and not them could have made this decision and cancelled game.
There is no way one team that KNOWS it has Covid positives in its team and clubhouse should have the unilateral choice to play the oppo without telling the oppo. If I’m the oppo team, I consider that total crap worthy of some form of baseball retaliation. If you know you have live Covid infection in your family, but you aren’t sure you have it, but nonetheless you go to a party or someone’s house like there’s nothing going on, that is an egregious form of selfishness, and I would argue is a form of battery and reckless endangerment if you give the Covid to someone there…
Would you say that’s kinda what China did on a larger level?
I would, on some level.
Once it was here though, it was our problem to fix…
One of the great cuts I heard for first time on that Green show on radio was recording they all did (except for Mick) with Otis Spann while they were on tour here 68/69. Some other tracks from this LP are on youtube (Biggest Thing Since Colossus) wow Green was just cracklin on the guitar fills and Danny Kirwan does some nice stuff too on couple slower numbers. Spann had a great voice
I had, maybe still have somewhere, the original vinyl of BTS Colossus. I was a serious Peter Green fan back then. Loved Spann, of course. Recollect especially No More Doggin’ and I Need Some Air
better pic
That takes away some of the effect of the fence being 8 feet closer to homeplate at that part of the ballpark.
yep
Stat I saw said Giants 14-6 in home openers since moving into the O.
Trump’s new favorite doctor believes that demon sperm and space alien DNA are being used in medicine.
I really wish I was kidding.
on a more practical level, I think she’s also challenged reporters who publish stories about her to submit urine samples so that she can prove they’re taking hydroxychloroquine
LOL…
Yep, the insanity continues.
She wants a sample of Fauci’s urine so she can test to make sure he’s not secretly using hydroxychloroquine.
I assume she’ll approve of a Lysol IV drip, too…
