New Flap Policy
I am tired. I’m tired of watching friends stay unemployed. I’m tired of businesses and schools being closed. I’m tired of watching the virus run rampant through our country. I’m tired of watching Americans get shot and/or killed for no reason. I’m tired of fucking riots. I’m tired of the nonsense that still is happening on a nightly basis in my second home Portland. I’m tired of societal division. I’m tired of fires. I’m tired of smoke. I’m tired of worrying about a close family member who is facing a terminal illness…..
Surprisingly, I’m not tired of wearing a mask. I have merrily embraced the mask culture. I spent too many years letting strangers breath on me. I will probably continue wearing a mask in many public buildings long after Covid is gone…..
I attribute most of this lingering tiredness to a slew of mismanaged crisis’ in our country. And while I appreciate having a place to vent about my ongoing staid state of mind, this is not the place for it.
If you go to the blog on your phone this is what you should all be seeing (I don’t know why it doesn’t appear on your tablet or laptop):

When I started the blog I named it “THE San Francisco Giants Blog–Unauthorized”. I thought that was a little too “TMZ” so I changed it to
“THE San Francisco Giants Blog—A Place to Talk About Giants Baseball”.
Just like with Facebook, Twitter and other places the Flap morphed into something other than what it was originally intended to be. I enjoy a lot of what the blog has become. But the political stuff is ruining this “place” that I started with the purest intentions.
So, we are going back to our roots. This is a place to talk about Giants baseball. Other topics are of course allowed and encouraged. The recipes you guys post are meals I still make to this day. The music videos, eh, I’ll leave that for others to enjoy.
But we are ending all the political talk. There are many other places you can vent your thoughts about that subject. No more Trump talk, pro or con. Those posts will be immediately and summarily deleted……
Hallelujah, brother! I am 110% on-board with that, Craig.
And thanks again Flav for creating this place and maintaining it over the years. I have met a number of you in person, and am grateful for those friendships. This place truly is family, IMO. I also am hopeful to meet others I have not met (WilleD, Clown, Kat, etc.) in the future.
One Flap Down…
Let’s play Two, today!
We could always do a dial-a-shot or two if ya wanted to meet up that way.
yes, sir and ree bob –
thanks again Flav for creating this place and maintaining it over the years.
Don’t hang out as much but still reading and enjoying.
THANX
Edd!
I fully endorse the new policy…

Peter, love ya like a brother, but what part of “But we are ending all the political talk. There are many other places you can vent your thoughts about that subject. No more Trump talk, pro or con. Those posts will be immediately and summarily deleted……” do you not understand????

West teams have so far managed to avoid having to play 2, so see how this works out today. Giants go to AZ next, a team that has now lost 8 straight, for weekend 3 game series.
Zum said this while ago—schedule does ease up. After AZ Giants have day off Monday, 2 in Nepal followed by another day off then return home for 4 more vs. AZ and 2 with M’s.
AZ is 13-19, last in NL west. M’s are 12-19 and ahead of both Angels and Rangers in AL west.
Wanted to reach out to Zum and Falv and others about the mask/covid and zum’s nervousness about being a bookstore. Zum, I have been everywhere. Planes, bookstores bars restaurants indoors and outdoors and we have come back to the offices starting last week but that is just for a few of us. We all need to carry on my man and best we can hope for is to limit immediate sustained contact with other people. …….the rest of this post was political in nature and was removed by BIG FLAVOR

Dodgers Giants 4-4 on season. LA 18-5 vs. everyone else.
Unca asked last night if it’s a tie after 7 innings, do they get a runner on second to start the 8th — yes, same as a game that goes to the 10th. It’s happened only once so far — Rays-Jays on Aug. 16.
https://www.mlb.com/gameday/rays-vs-blue-jays/2020/08/16/630872#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=play-by-play,game=630872
Love the new policy!
Getting all of the political talk off the blog sounds absolutely fantastic to me.
Congrats GH, my man, you got ONE through today. lol. Not interested in posts about the virus, how it spreads, how police are trained, etc….all of those topics incite political debate. Thank you for understanding
here’s how to do this if you guys are struggling: if it’s an opinion that can be drawn to a political take, keep it to yourself. Write it all over your wall at facebook, that shit is strongly encouraged over there. I’m sure everyone will get the hang of this in a couple of days.
Flav: If you think people are problems here with off-topic issues, consider Farcebook, google and virtually any social media site. They are into strict censorship of any posting which does not meet with the approval of the powerful.
A friend today e.m.ed me that the farce disallowed his linking to an article which was all about police busting into people’s homes and such—basic civil liberties—Bill of Rights stuff—nothing vaguely resembling partisan politrix. However, to the best of my knowledge they have no problem with people posting stuff favorable to our glorious government and truth filled mass media.
Thank you! Long overdue!
welcome back
Thanks bud.
LJ, great to have you back.
When you checked in briefly a few weeks ago did you say you used to post as J-Bat or did I misread?
J-Bat was excellent, too…
Yeah, Loo, that was my username at the beginning. But one of you guys referred to me once as Lurker John and I liked it so much it kind of stuck. JBat is just a play on my first and last names.
LJ…welcome back. Please do not be a stranger. I always liked what you brought to the table, here.
Thanks Chi! I feel the same way about you guys. Best collective baseball knowledge I’ve had the pleasure of coming across, not to mention passionate Giants fans. Most people don’t get that, but you all do.
Does anyone know if the Giants and Dodgers are playing a doubleheader today, or if they’re playing at all? With the Giants red hot, this break could not have come at a worse time, imo. I want them to get right back at it.
Yes. First game is at 1 today, I believe.
My Yahoo Sports app is showing two games scheduled, so never mind. Glad to see that.
I read that the Yankees and Giants have been involved in trade talks for Gausman for as long as a week now. I did not know a ton about him coming into this season, but he has one hell of an arm, which makes you wonder why he hasn’t been more successful in his career. I suspect command. In that game at Dog-ear Stadium, he was bringing some absolute smoke, and a filthy breaking pitch.
Yes I’m glad your throwing political shit out at the prestige Flap!
Never gets resolved with folks on different sides.
When I would go to my local watering hole if politics came up between a few people, the bartender would say take it outside, it only leads to yelling and fights!
Most folks want to just chill after a long day of work and just enjoy a drink with NORMAL friends, not bring up BS politics..
I hope they don’t try triple-heading five-inning games, but it’ll be fun to watch two today. Maybe the off day, given the difference in pen depth, benefits the Giants more than the bums. Maybe Belt will stay hot. Maybe Kershaw will offer him a mistake on the inside part of the plate. Will Mookie play?
There also was debate the other night about which team has the advantage with the runner-on-second extra-inning rule. FWIW, of the 36 extra-inning games this season, the away team has won 20 times and the home team 16 times. Giants are 2-2, 1-0 away, 1-2 home. A’s are 5-0 in extras.
I suspected as much, Mac. Although I thought it would trend higher for the away teams. Mainly because it is so easy to get that first run across without too much effort.
The other night the gambit only extended the game until Solano hit the HR, which could’ve ended the thing without free runners.
Yeah, no one is changing anyone’s mind. And I’m one of the worst opinionators, but, hey, let’s play two!!!
Good to have you back LJ.
Thanks Chuck. Looking forward to the upcoming Niners’ season, but they really need to figure out this injury thing. Woof.
Thanks, Mac. That was what I suspected, but between this and the 7 inning games, this feels like little league.
Yeah, I wasn’t quite sure either, especially since MLB has been making this up as they go along. Pretty sure the 7-inning doubleheader came about after the season started.
Yesterday’s LU had Darrin Ruf batting cleanup, I’m hoping Kapler comes to his senses and not bat a .167 career hitter against Opie!
Loo remembering LJ is the old JBat is one of the great pulls in flap history
Yes it is. Helluva memory, Loo. lol
I feel the same way as LJ does about this blog. I have been a Giants fan for well over 50 years but I still don’t know or remember anything near what you guys who post regularly here do. Not just Giants knowledge but overall baseball knowledge. I learn stuff all the time. Glad the politics are out because it makes me a little crazy and I can vent elsewhere.
Bingo. I suspect we’re about the same age, Winder. I fancy myself pretty knowledgeable about the game and I’ve always loved its history, but I’ve learned a ton from you guys here. Loo (and others) is a master at sharing historical tidbits and that’s something I love. That part of the game has fascinated me since I was a little kid. One of the first books I ever read was about Honus Wagner, then it was Christy Mathewson. I was hooked.
This sport is at around 137 years of existence, which is mind-boggling in and of itself. Such a rich tapestry of history to learn about and way too many characters to count, and so much nuance to the sport itself. You have to be pretty arrogant to ever think you know it all.
The first book I ever read from cover to cover was the Lou Gehrig story. It’s still one of my all time favorites
I am 63, and consider myself somewhat knowledgeable about the game, but the historical stuff that Loo, SanD, and others come-up with is amazing. I too have learned much here, and just love the interaction with this group.
And I too am VERY HAPPY that all the political bullshit will be gone. I want to come here and talk Giants baseball. Maybe a little music when things are slow, etc. But NO POLITICS.
So, today’s games will be 7 innings each, right?
Yes as Snarkk said its’s 7and 7 bourbon 🥃 day..
Nice to have you back Lurker, you’ve lurked to long, glad to see you posting!
Thanks Kat!

You know who I can’t fucking stand, and I think really doesn’t give a damn about actually helping people?
The rest of this post has been deleted by Big Flavor because it was political in nature.
(Just wanted to get in on the fun)
Watching Stanford/LSU college W/S championship from 2000,
Didn’t realize the Tigers had 3 players that made it to the show and were productive.
2 played for the Giants at one time SS Ryan Theriot &2B Mike Fontenot the other was Brad Hawpe who played for the Rockies I believe.
Amazing that Theriot had 2 big walkoff runs to win games and they were big moments!
He scored the winning run against Stanford to win the title and he scored the winning run in extra innings to beat Detroit in a W/S game!
This is a kind of a Caribbean marinade for chicken that makes a great base for grilled chicken. I say base because this is a baseball blog and I usually mop some BBQ sauce on the chicken as well, although it works fine on it’s own.
Juice a couple of oranges, a couple of lemons and a couple of limes.
Add to that a few chopped garlic coves (I usually go with 3),
a few sliced and stemmed jalapenos (I usually use 2 and I leave the seeds in but more or less can be used and you can seed them if ya want),
Also include 1 TBSP of chili powder and a tsp each of cumin and cayenne.
marinade your bird parts for an hour or two before grilling.
There ya have it, chicken with big flavor and giant tastes.
Lets play two.
Thanks, Clown. Always looking for a new marinade, rub, etc. I love to grill and smoke. Been doing a lot of homemade beef jerky lately.
Doing a lot of cooking myself. I was doing a beer can chicken the other day on the charcoal grill but had to move it inside to finish up because of a lightning storm that came through. Finishing it in the oven was great because I was able to keep the drippings and make that into a little sauce. The leftover chicken became an awesome gumbo.
Also been making a bunch of salsa verde using jalapenos, tomatillo and garlic from the garden and I’m still experimenting making pizzas.
I also like to smoke and then rub my beef jerky…
Now THIS is the type of Flap content that I am here for!
I’m thinking few cocktail recipes may be in order too.
Yes to the cocktail recipes!
A simple one from me and still one of my all-time favorites is the Seabreeze. My version is vodka/cranberry and just a splash of grapefruit juice. IMO, the grapefruit juice makes the drink, perfectly offsetting the tartness of the cran and adding just enough of something extra to make it really refreshing.
I agree on the grapefruit, LJ. For a long time my drink of choice was tequila and grapefruit, IMO the tequila added a nice tasty change to the classic Greyhound. I guess you could call it a Chihuahua.
As LJ said, Gausman is interesting. His last couple starts have been really good, until point like most he runs out of gas and leaves pitches up. He is on one year deal only so unlike Cueto isn’t owed anything beyond this season. As iffy as Giants pitching is, wonder if they would consider keeping him and signing him for couple seasons going forward, as opposed to trading him off.
I am a fan of them keeping Gausman for a year or two…
WD: My thoughts were running along the same lines as yours…what is it they say about great minds? Ha. Anyhoo I’m convinced the team’s Brass has been intensely discussing this whole situation ever since their first call from NY. Personally, my thought they should trade Gausman ONLY if the compensation is waaay more than slightly satisfactory. Hopefully Z & H are thinking the same way. If the guy has really gotten it together, what with the juiced ball and everything, your suggestion for signing him up for a couple seasons looks sound.
OK as to new rules for extras…”it’s so easy to get that first run across.” Pls explain to me how it is different from being equally as easy for home team as the visitors. And further, should visitors not score at all, it would be just as easy for home team to win the game without having to get a hit—one bunt one sac fly, game over.
Still think advantage lies with home team. should visiting team score only 1 run, as did LA the other night, home team can play for bigger inning OR go the sac/productive out route of just getting 1. Despite how “easy” it is for visiting teams to score, I haven’t seen those teams go bunt route.
Plus, LA scored on 2 defensive gaffes by Giants–Rogers falling down and Bart screw up.
Didn’t Giants score one of their runs on single by Longo to right side vs. shift? How much easier can it get, getting a run in via single to RF?
Yes. Yaz was the runner on 2nd. Throw was late. The Barrels hit the two run shot to end it.
Anybody like bargains? I get this catalog of mostly remaindered books from the Edward R. Hamilton Bookseller company out of Falls Village, Connecticut. Still going through it to see what else I might order up, but this one is a must for me: “Fifty greatest NY & SF Giants players of all time”. Listed at $25.95–remaindered at $6.95. I’ve ordered from him before. Satisfactory stuff and service.
BF taking care of some posts today:

And rightfully so…the politics had become unbearable here…
first day of no smoke smell in Palo Alto today in days. It’s nice.
” I can breathe!!!”
Watch it!
Good news.
The Giants got to Kershaw last time, I think. Interesting situation for Kapler today. Belt and Craw have been hot lately, but career-wise, Kershaw dominates them.
The lineup I’m seeing posted has Craw sitting vs. Kershaw.
I don’t know if that’s the real lineup, though.
Yep, Belt in, Craw out.
Gasman has the arm. His thought processes leaves little to be desired. For all his stuff, he should be a much better pitcher.
Not sure I’d stumble into B/N but there is local books inc I hit for gifts at b-days for children i know and Holiday.
However, now that local libs will hold stuff and let you pick it up outside, I have 2 waiting for me —new Keith Law and Shea’s “24” that I’m really looking forward to.
Last week picked up newer edition of short stories by Lucia berlin, “Evening in Paradise.” The title selection is first story and it’s great, about couple kids in El Paso wandering across border to Juarez and back in wartime 1943. I read her other SS volume, “A Manual for Cleaning Ladies” fabulous.
1. Mike Yastrzemski (L) CF
2. Wilmer Flores (R) 2B
3. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
4. Darin Ruf (R) LF
5. Donovan Solano (R) SS
6. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
7. Joey Bart (R) DH
8. Joey Rickard (R) RF
9. Chadwick Tromp (R) C
P Logan Webb (R)
Bart at DH sends a message. Hoping it doesn’t backfire in some way. Webb starts this one and not Gausman? Hmmm.
What message is that, Stix? Bart and Chadwick have to split the games…
Yes, Webb in game 1 and Gausman in game 2. At least that is what I am seeing.
Yahoo said Buehler to IL with blister and scratched from starting second game.
LU I see has Belt batting 6th, Bart 7th the DH, Rickard 8th Tromp 9th. Solano playing SS Ruf cleanup??
Though the Dodgers still haven’t said who’s pitching, but u have to assume it’s still Opie..,
Gausman to start 2nd game. TBD for Bums.
Rickart again? J Davis must be struggling like a bitch to not get a call-up after 2 injuries to OFers.
I can’t help but wonder if there is some off the field or clubhouse stuff going on with him that has him in the doghouse. Reckless speculation—I know, but it makes absolutely no sense to me how they are handling him.
I have heard it is more about his high swing and miss rate. Read that in an Athletic article (or somewhere) a week or so ago.
I’ve heard that too, but if it we’re so concerned about swings, why has Dubon been given so much rope?
There are kids at my high school who could put together more competitive AB’s than what Dubon was doing for a few weeks there….
Yeah don’t get me going Chuck about Jaylin Davis.Their still messing with him to much.
Next callup will probably be Daniel Robertson over Davis once Rickard bombs!
Oh and the recent add of Chris Shaw to the 60 man squad means just one thing to me, he’s going to be traded at the deadline, throwin whatever, he’s been in The doghouse with Zman since he came on board( demotions to AA/ no call ups) He’s gone book it!
A scheduled 14 innings out of what’s normally 18, more like let’s play 1.555.
Here’s Kapler on Rickard, from nbc site: “He’s been arguably the best player down there (Sac alt site). He has a track record at the major league level.”
um, he got all of 50 ABs last year for SF: .280 BA 1 HR 2 doubles 17 Ks
I’d call BS on this one.
complete BS
I’m calling a HR for Longoria off of Opie in this 1st game.Like Belt he’s swinging a good bat right now.Dont see the lefties Yaz are Belt going deep off him..
Kruk…Secret weapon you watch Rickard Lol 😂
Jesus not even close at 1st Bellinger is out!
Damn, that’s a great catch by Bellinger.
Wow that was a big league web gem for Bellinger damm it!
Damm 3 gold glove outfielders sure showed it that inning.
Geez how many teams have 3 GG outfielders? I would say Zero except this team..
Rickard a track record in the majors? A bad one maybe. Don’t dislike the kid, but come on.
Webb has the kind of stuff that makes you think he could be really, really good. He just needs to figure it out at this level.
Flav, thanks again for the link to the bilasports stream, that thing has come in mighty handy for me.
Was Kutch the Giants last black player, outside of Jaylin Davis?
when I first started watching baseball, top of dodgers order was Wills, Gilliam W Davis and T Davis, all of whom brought unique skills to the game, as did the many Giants black players of that era.
#1 attribute a young Giants position player can have is a proclivity for doing damage against the damn Dodgers.
Fuck. Lots of loud contact. Signifying nothing.
Dodgers book on Bart looks to be low and towards the inside–on or off the plate. He’s gonna need some coaching on that apparent blind-spot.
His swing on the inside pitch gets twisted and he turns his head away, too. Literally blind.
welcome to ML Mr. Bart sez Opie. while I can take delight in his post season struggles that have spelled doom for LA, have highest respect for Kershaw. If he were on any other team, very likeable guy.
oh Kuiper—“it’s right at Yastrzemski”
Yes Opie is a class act, even wears 22 cause his favorite player was Will Clark.
Yeah if he wasn’t a Dodger I could like him even more..
Flores tomahawked that ball for the double!
Geez not a good pitch to swing at Evan. All you can do is pound that one into the ground..
Bart is looking overmatched again.
If I was part of the ground crew, I’d put a little speaker behind one of the cutouts so I could yell down in front, just to fuck with the camera guy. Maybe one close by his spot that just coughs sometimes.
He swings at everything inside. Up or down.
Death by a thousand cuts.
Now Webb is pissing me off. He’s nibbled all day.
and then one bad pitch gets whacked by the Dodgers worst hitter.
With the BS 7 innings, lot less time for comeback.
Donnie Barrels doesn’t have much of a cannon. Not a horrible try, I guess.
that relay throw looked almost identical. no chance, though.
And the marshmallow.
Webb gets two strikes and then can’t put ’em away.
Blehhhhh. Still a chance to get 2.
To many mistakes by Webb today ,2 walks,2 Hit by pitch, 4 hits and a costly hanger that Taylor hammered for 2 runs. Some hits were cheesy but they all count.
Especially against Kershaw with a 5 run lead now…
That should of been up higher for Willed to see..
Giants have seen to be more affected by not playing last night.7 game winning streak and you don’t want an interruption.I understand why but it’s a momentum killer..
the dodgers had won something like 11 of 13 coming into today
Kat agree on Webb. 74 pitches and he couldn’t finish 4th inning…pen already in there on a day you have to play 2 and then fly to AZ for weekend series. Kershaw 58 pitches 4 complete, 0 BBs.
part of learning experience I guess.
