A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Spectacular Fall From The Top

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 16, 2020

If there is one thing you want to thank Z for it should be on not re-signing Bumgarner. That deal is now teetering on *worst mlb contract in history*. He has, by far, the worst ERA in the major leagues for pitchers who qualify. Timmy, Cain, Bum….what is it about Giants pitchers who completely fall apart when they hit their 30’s?

Are the Giants playing today? I thought yesterday and today got canceled but they’re listed as playing today. Seattle is listed as the home team.

Yes, interesting about Bum and Giants pitchers in general.

Our boys were to start a two-game series in Seattle yesterday. Air quality canceled the game. They will play two in SF. Today at 6:40 and tomorrow at 1:10 (I think). Seattle will be the “home team,” bat 2nd, and wear home whites.

Need to get back in the W column. Things are tightening up. Cincy is .5 back. Brewers 1 back. Mets 2.5. 13 games left for us and the Brew. 12 for the Mets, and 10 for Cincy. Gonna be interesting.

    Humm Baby!

Yes as Chi mentioned teams behind SF Cincy Rox Brewers all won last night and closed some ground.

These modern day starting pitchers just don’t have the shelf life of the veteran pitchers from the 60’s 70’s who pitched way into their 30’s with great success..

It’s the relievers who have the most success nowadays pitching into they’re 30’s. Hell the Giants had 3 of the best to help them win 3 W/S championships in Affeldt,Lopez&Romo. Another guy who’s career didn’t even start till he hit 30 was Dennis Eckersely when the A’s wisely turned him into a closer and he ended up being the best for along stretch and a MVP,HOF as well..

A W today and we are back to .500. I forgot to mention the Rox are also a game back. They play the A’s today. Go A’s.

Brewcrew has DH against Cards. Gotta pull for my childhood Cards.

Cincy plays the Pirates. Go Bucs! Mets vs. Phillies.

It has definitely become scoreboard watching time, at least for me. Lots of teams in the mix with 13 or fewer games for all of those teams vying for a WC spot.

Yeah, the Bum non-sign is looking good at this point.
As some of us said last year, the dude has mileage on that arm, even with the injuries giving him rest. The increasingly bad stats last year weren’t a mirage. Hopefully he can adjust to whatever the new normal is and work with what he’s got. But, another 4 seasons even at $17 million or whatever looks brutal, right now…

  7. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on September 16, 2020 at 11:50 am

Count the innings on MadBum’s arm. He and Cain at least threw a shit-ton in their early 20s. Bummie isn’t making the adjustment to losing his fastball as Kershaw has. You could see even before the injury to his shoulder his HRs given up was steadily climbing. It got worse after the dirtbike crash.

Giants lost their last off day (Thursday) with the postponement of yesterday’s game. They will now finish with 13 games in 12 days (there will be a DHer with the Padres to make-up the postponed game related to Dick’s false-positive). Four against the Rox now appears to be a huge series given the Rox are one game behind us for the 8th playoff slot.

I am not as confident as I was prior to the San Diego series. That series showed the disparity of our team, and the next echelon of teams (we are like 4-17 against teams with a +.500 record).

But as I have viewed it all year…no expectations here. I am just going to continue to enjoy the ride, as this year has already far surpassed what I expected to see from our team.

Sometimes I get these flashes of intuition, esp or something while following a game. Had it briefly when Crawdaddy was coming to the box. It’s happened several times before. Never did get into gambling, but if somebody who played the horses, poker or sports gambling did that from time to time, what would stop him from getting greedy and letting imagination rather than intuition run rampant,
