A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Well Lookie Here!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 24, 2020

Back in the post season saddle.

I don’t know how much resistance Colorado is putting up. They have a distinctive *Seattle* feel to them. But whatever, we can only play the teams on the schedule. While part of me doesn’t want to see them make the playoffs due to the extremely high chances for nationwide embarrassment, I really don’t have anything else to do these days other than root for them to win ball games.

Therefore, “go fast and win”–name the movie for a notch on your Flap trivia belt.

I could care less if they get swept in the first round of the playoffs. As I have said many times, this team has wildly exceeded any expectations I had going into this weird-ass season. It has been the most entertaining Giants year of baseball in years for me, and I would love to see them shove a playoff experience in the face of all the pundits who predicted they would be cellar dwellers this year.

Swing and a miss for me…I do not recognize the quote, and will not go google it.

    Just win baby.

The quote i have heard but can’t remeber and don’t want to goggle. Thinking kevin Costner cycling movie??

Playoffs looking better. Brewers cards in a 5 game series. Cards have a ton to play for to hold off Reds for 2nd.

How absolutely crazy would it be if the Marlins, Reds and Giants make it. 1,000,000 to 1 before covid.

Yes, 28 Ws is way more than I expected. giants are solidly in that middle tier behind LA SD cubs Braves and have managed to win despite HR power and experienced pitching missing from last season 77 W club.

Dickerson and belt continue to rake, Longo and flaco with bombs good solid outing from Webb his best in a while. GD contributing factor from bottom of lineup with walk single SB and rbi. Very nicely done.

  4. gianthead's avatar gianthead said, on September 24, 2020 at 8:17 am

Shot at 7th place and likely will get Braves who we can play for with IMO. Another smartly played gane last night. Pull an upset on Braves and then all gravy…Pads would likely play Flodgers in the Divisional Round allowing us an easier Cubs or one of the other wild cards…even year magic baby.

The Giants are doing exactly what they are supposed to and that is winning. The last two games were very telling, this team does not give up and they come through when they have to. Fun times.

Key to Logan Webb’ future, let somebody else start then bring him 2nd inning. He always struggles out
of the gate so maybe he doesn’t feel the nerves and pressure of the 1st inning. Also a damm good way to vulture a lot of wins since he would be the pitcher of record after 5 innings!

    • Carstie Clausen's avatar Carstie Clausen said, on September 24, 2020 at 9:53 am

Yes. Webb is still in the settling-in process. That happens with some young moundsmen. Kapler’s experiment worked to a tee, so perhaps in the earlier part of next season he will thrive coming in after after an alt-starter. And Baragar, our leader in wins due to his vulturing successes, looks to have been the perfect choice for the opening aria. Myguess is that by the All-Star break in ’22, Webb will be wearing his big-boy pants.

  12. pawliekokonuts's avatar pawliekokonuts said, on September 24, 2020 at 9:56 am

Did you see comments by el Kaplertain on Jaylin yesterday? Gee, a tad starchy. The Murphy-jettisoning brass is unhappy with his swing and miss rate. The language reminded me of the “we have confidence in the manager” comments that always spell doom.

  13. pawliekokonuts's avatar pawliekokonuts said, on September 24, 2020 at 9:59 am

I was just telling Dennis Zucchino (we’re refreshing our bromance) that even if the Giants were somehow to oust LA, which could happen and would be delightful, THEY ARE NOT GOING TO WIN THE WORLD SERIES. I know it’s an even year, but I take my meds enough to forestall psychotic delusions.

  14. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on September 24, 2020 at 10:04 am

I don’t think too many people here or anywhere believe that they will win it all. I just think we have as good a shot at anyone at winning the 3 game play-in series. The playoffs are gravy in this weird-ass year, but an opening round win would be the icing on the, uh gravy.

  17. sandog's avatar sandog said, on September 24, 2020 at 10:20 am

Yeah, I’m not worried about us getting embarrassed. A 2 out of 3 wild card series in a wacky season isn’t exactly the grandest of stages. If we get blown out in 2 games, so be it. BRING IT ON!

Graveduggar has to be back in the line-up today against another righty–doesn’t he?

And I still suspect there is some unpublicized reason why Davis is buried in Sactown. Too much swinging and missing while taking BP at Raley Field sounds fishy to me for a reason to keep him in the doghouse.

    1. Austin Slater (R) DH
    2. Alex Dickerson (L) LF
    3. Wilmer Flores (R) 2B
    4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B

I’m still trying to figure out what kind of elbow injury enables you to swing a bat, but not play the field…

      • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on September 24, 2020 at 12:08 pm

        Good ? Loo!
I’m going to just guess it’s less strain on the elbow batting then it would be
let’s say having to uncork a long throw to the plate are digging one out in the corner for a possible play at 2nd are 3rd.So I’m assuming the Giants don’t feel like Slater’s arm strength is not significant enough to play the field.

      • sandog's avatar sandog said, on September 24, 2020 at 12:40 pm

Reminds me of Rusty Staub in the ’73 World Series, but that was his shoulder. But in those days Rusty HAD to go out there and get it done. At one point he made a throw to the cut off man Tyler Rogers submarine-style.

That ’73 series was something else. Google the highlight package sometime when you have 30 minutes. Yes, some of the Willie Mays stuff is painful, but he also humped up and had a huge hit in the same game where he struggled in the outfield. And those were tough plays! Even the surehanded and uberathletic Graveduggar may have struggled to reel those in fighting the sun.

      • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 24, 2020 at 1:19 pm

I’m sorry, Coonrod sucks ass. He’s a fucking buffoon with absolutely no clue as to how to pitch. Every time he comes in, it’s ball 1, ball 2 to the first batter. Just rear back and let it rip, like big league hitters can’t hit the fastball. What an idiot. As usual, Kapler stays with a guy one batter too long.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 24, 2020 at 3:36 pm

He certainly isn’t there now, but I think Coon Hound has some potential. Agree with Stix that Coon Hound may need to see a shrink in the off-season, and work with someone who can help him effectively harness that power.

He has a lot of potential, but so did Musclehead, and baseball history is littered with the carcasses of guys with “potential.” I’m often left wondering if the Giants’ organization actually teaches these guys how to pitch. This guy overthrows almost every fastball and his command is awful. That ain’t the way to do it.
