A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Finish

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 27, 2020

Ok, so what has to happen today? We need to win and the Brewers need to lose. Our old pal St. Louis needs to step up and beat a pretty beatable team. Both games go off at roughly the same time.

Also, the Niners facing The Giants.

Lots of Giants action today.

wow powerful stuff at end of last thread. Flav best of luck to you daughter and grandfather. Sometimes routine such as putting up a thread each day for all of us mixed in with distractions (fantasy ball, sports in general) help us all maintain level of sanity, and hope for better times, for all of us.

gotta admit it was little odd to hear K n K talk so glowingly of Shark, even if it was more about his personality than anything else. Don’t think they once mentioned any great outing of his. I wonder if there was any feeling by mgmt he might be a distraction on playoff roster if he wasn’t going to get any more starts/relegated to sitting in stands with pen guys.

Can anybody handle a potentially positive note? We all sure need one. Perhaps you will agree with me that we have an excellent candidate for the NL’s “comeback of the year” player. None other than the very core of the Bore Core: BB9. That man has turned an apparent decline at a not. particularly decrepit age into a season for the books, He has suddenly transformed himself into one of the most reliable–and clutch–Giants hitters. We were all on the verge of giving up on him and….breakout.

Friar Tuckers have Adrian Morejon on the mound today vs Smyly. SD looks for their guy to be their long-man in the post-season. Smyly has a rather lower ERA than his opponent. Drew is on the cusp for Free Agency, I seem to recall. He should be pretty well motivated. My guesstimate is that he will be good for six IP and my hope is that Kapler channels his inner Bochy when he chooses his relievers today.

Shark must of gotten the news just after he finished pitching the other night,Cause when they interviewed him in the clubhouse he was thanking the fans organization, yada yada.It wasn’t a admission, but u could sense it was over in his voice.I get it makes sense so they can use his spot for another arm (Rico Garcia) but it has to be rough on Shark too not to finishing out the year with his teammates for the last 5 years..

With all the uncertainty in NL for playoff seeding, I read that STL could still be out (and Giants in) depending on them having to play (and lose both games) Monday DH vs. Tigers. Has this been established, that they have to play or is it dependent on what happens today?

  8. mrsprtdude's avatar mrsprtdude said, on September 27, 2020 at 9:28 am

Wiledav. From MLB site…3-way tie for final two spots (.500)

How it happens: Brewers beat Cardinals; Giants win

Who gets in: Brewers; second team TBD

In this scenario, the Phillies are out regardless of their result Sunday. The other three teams are tied with .500 records, but with the complication of the Cardinals having played two fewer games.

The Brewers clinch a spot in this case, due to having the intradivision record tiebreaker over the Giants (20-20 over 19-21). That leaves St. Louis and San Francisco. With a playoff spot hanging in the balance, the Cardinals would need to play Detroit on Monday, giving them two shots to win one game for a clinch. A 30th Cards victory would do the job, as they also have an intradivision tiebreaker over the Giants, with 21 wins in the bank against the NL Central entering Sunday. Only if St. Louis lost twice to Detroit would San Francisco get the final spot.

St louis has powerful incentive to win. A lose and giant win means DH Monday, then playoffs as 8th seed traveling to LA..vs a win and a day or 2 of rest, no travel, a home 3 game series. Go Birds!

Magnus, just saw last night’s posts about your travails. Those are choices that would weigh on me, no matter which direction I made. My son, his wife, and my 9yo grandson live about a mile away, but I rarely see them. They are much more pandemic-careful than I am (and I am observant and compliant). Ironically, I saw them all — for the first time in months! — yesterday at my ex-wife’s (mother of Ethan and Evelyn), but outside, the occasion being Ev in town from Brooklyn for a few weeks. (Ex-ballet dancer, now a senior in college; English major, like me.) We have a family Zoom biweekly. I’m so grateful we escaped all this with my mom dying at 102 in 2018. It would’ve been agonizing to wave at her at a window in her nursing home, her wondering why. We were spared that. You mentioned gratitude. For me, that is always the key, to literally everything. I hear friends say, “I’m going through a lot right now.” And I say — not callously or heartlessly — who isn’t? Everybody is. And everbody isn’t. If I lie in bed in the morning and hear pouring rain, I might say, ‘Shit, we were going to go walking today. That blows that.’ Or I can say, ‘Rain on the roof is the most beautiful sound on earth.’ The rain doesn’t care either way. Or, as Jefferson Airplane said, ‘The human name doesn’t mean shit to a tree.’

I tell myself I’ve adjusted to quarantine measures. Early on, I walked more, ate better. Living alone, I had practice. Was I delusional to say that?

    Now it is fraying.

The longing for human touch. The collected fabric of humans threaded together. I wrote FAILURE TO THRIVE about this. What happens to humans during such an isolated time? https://amzn.to/2MyzMTQ

    We’re finding out.

    Peace.

    Gratitude.
