Meltdown City
Well, the good news is that I don’t think we’re going to be arguing too much this year about the usage of Jake McGee. Yikes. And gotta think the roster is gonna get a bit “lighter” in the coming days. Doval may know what to do with a piled up plate of food in front of him but he’s got no idea what to do with his god given talent…..
I’ve got no interest in second guessing Kap’s use of the bullpen. They are terrible. They are who I thought the starting pitching would be. Who’s he supposed to call on if nobody is reliable?
It is Colorado, the lamest place to play baseball in the country, shouldn’t we be happy with a split?
If we just lost 8-6 I would say yes. Funny thing is I have had minimal chance to watch or listen to games this yera.
I was at a bar watching opening night, in AZ with my daughter watching another game McGee melted down a month ago (day before he went on covid list), and now last night. IT’s ME!!!
PS I’m wit you on kap. How many guys had 2 strikes last night and we could not put them away??
We have a closer problem. 10.80 ERA last 7 appearances.
Thank GOD I fell asleep bottom of the 7th and did see the results till the morning.
There’s nothing worse as a fan than watching your team lose a big lead late like that. It’s brutal. I believe that’s 3-4 this year alone. Think of their record if they win those games like they should’ve. And, yes, we do have a closer problem.
In all my years of watching this game, I’ve never understood guys like Doval, with all the talent in the world but afraid to use it. What did he throw last night, 2 fastballs the entire time? That’s ridiculous when you can hit 100 mph with movement. Hopefully he figures it out.
I am fucking done with McGee in the closer spot. Doval has potential. He needs to regain confidence in his fastball. I like the kid alot…hope he progresses, because I think he could be special.
Fuck no I am not happy with a split. You hand your bullpen a four run lead, you should win those games. Sorry, I am getting greedy.
Anyway, wash that shit off and get the getaway and series win today.
Happy Cinco do Mayo. Got to go find my Giants sombrero that many of us scored at a Flapalooza a few years back.
Bitter L obscures all the good things that did happen–with 2 outs in 7th Giants had outscored Rox 18-4.
Belt Craw Posey all homered in opener, #8 for Posey and Belt homered again and drove in 7 runs in DH. Longoria 2 more hits in nitecap and has OPS of .925 and played flawless 3b with Wood on mound inducing ground ball outs.
GD had clutch 2 run knock, bunt single and fine diving catch, gets BA off Interstate. Tauchman continues to shine at plate and in the field–Winn pointed out couple times he made good plays to cut off ball in OF and hold hitter to a single, not easy to do in big yard where OF grass is fast too. Think he’s already played all 3 spots and solidified every day role somewhere.
All this on a day Dogs got swept by Cubs in DH and Padres got 4 hits off Pirates pitching and lost 2-1.
But being unable to complete even 14 innings successfully by pitching staff, hurts.
Btw, managed to find on mccoveychronicles.com site, all Giants minor league boxscores from yesterday.
Ramos went 1-4 with 3 Ks for AA Richmond. Tristan Beck, Stanford guy they got from Braves in Melancon trade, started went 4 innings gave up 3 runs 2 earned and a 3 run bomb took the L.
Bailey went 3-5 with bomb and 3 rbis as High A Eugene won at Spokane. Wilson and Bishop each 1-4.
Low A SJ lost to Fresno, Luciano 1-4 with walk A Canario 2-2 double/triple.
Dunno anywhere else to find what’s up. they used to have full game rundowns of each in past but did have brief 10 second vid highlight of Canario double off CF wall. Have to let Stix know about this once he’s back in loop.
It’s nice when we win but I hate games at Coors field. We shoulda had two and losses like that usually come back to bite you.
Coors Field sucks. Completely skews the game.
Yes and no. 6-2 lead with 2 outs in the 9th (7th, whatever), you shouldn’t lose. Fuck McGee. And Doval needs to talk to Buster more. The one thing I got right was my worry about the pen. We went through 85 guys in spring training and still came up with a shit hand.
Wrong about Posey. I’ll take that one. Thought the starters would be OK. Hitting? Well, hot and cold. Everybody’s right if everybody’s wrong.
Didn’t see the Wilmet play at the plate. How bad was that? Wotus has to know Flores is as slow as a houseplant.
thanks, great column from Baggs, shining light at Athletic.
Yep. In my queue to read…have not gotten to it yet.
Good news is only one more game. Take the series, and it’ll ease yesterday’s blow.
So Mays will turn 90 tomorrow. Amazing on one hand, considering life expectancy must have been of black man in Alabama born during early days of Depression Era.
yet sad on another as so many of his contemporaries such as Mac Aaron Frank Robinson et al have passed. I did see one network doing live interview with great fellow HOF ‘Bamian Billy Williams, who I think is 87
Williams will be 83 this June.
Unca and I were at a game in Denver several years ago. Giants were in town and had a big lead, and much like last night…the wheels came off and the Rox won on a walkoff. I hate that fucking ballyard.
It isn’t bad from a fans perspective and the Lower Downtown area is cool, but it is a fucking nightmare for playing the game.
Win the getaway and series today and get the fuck outta town.
Brutal. Speaking of Bochy’s one-pitcher-per hitter strategy, he did that from the 7th on, and lost in the 9th after building up a 7-2 lead iirc.
Let’s get a W and get outta Denver baby…
1. Mike Tauchman (L) RF
2. Buster Posey (R) C
3. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
4. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Wilmer Flores (R) 2B
7. Jason Vosler (L) LF
8. Steven Duggar (L) CF
9. Logan Webb (R) P
Bass player killing it on this song.
Slusser said Cueto to come off IL and start Sunday, with Webb moving to pen. Also Yaz to come off IL sometime during this weekend series vs. Pads here. so more roster moves happening soon
What have they done with Barrels&Wade jr?
Take them behind the barn and shoot them?
Barrels maybe I can see being older with the calf,
but Wade jr is younger then Yaz and had the same injury ( oblique)
yet he hasn’t played opening day and Yaz can comeback Friday?? Something fishy going on? ( called Tauchman? don’t hurry back kid you’ve been replaced)
Solano still gonna take couple more weeks to heal I think. Maybe grade of muscle strain a little more severe than others.
Thought I heard Yaz may play Friday. GraveDugger pushed out.
You guys complain way too much! Just relax, enjoy the game, and crack open a cold one!
I prefer to piss, moan and bitch AND crack a cold one (or two).
Thanks for calling Chi. Good to chat with you a few minutes ago buddy. Let’s definitely get together next week.
^Nipper?
Ya think? Is he driving a van?
ask him if he’s still on Yuban for morning cup.
Funny how a hot early streak of pitching by McGee puts a false hope of security in Kapler’s head and he continues to use the one trick pony every freakin time a save situation arrives.Did the same damm thing last year with his other blowup man Trevor Gott.Oh yes the same I Gott a pile of shit waiting down in Sacramento for the Kapler call, cause Kappy can’t help himself in misery when it comes to the closer role.
Personally I would just run with Mr.Rodgers atleast he keeps baseball’s from flying out of the park, and he’s been consistently lights out with that sinker that hitters can’t stand seeing coming off his hand scraping dirt on the way to the plate..
blade3colorado said, on April 17, 2021 at 7:58 pm (Edit)
McGee wears this . . . No one else (especially Kapler, whom played it by the book). I still recall his terrible 2018 and 2019 Sherpa seasons after he signed a 3 year, $27 million contract in 2017. Hoping that this isn’t his MO again, but be prepared for north of 1.40 WHIPs going forward. Seriously.
Winn sure needs polishing, he’s very robotic getting his words out.
They need to bring in Estes occasionally who’s not only informative he gets to the heart of the problems quickly Estes ,Please👏
Agree Winn needs to work on his delivery, but I like what he brings content-wise. I miss seeing Flannery on the pre- and post-game shows. He just got over a big medical scare and not sure he will come back. Hope he and his band The Lunatic Fringe tour again…would love to see them again.
Whoop! Crawdaddy bomb!
Yes sir Chi,Crawford nailed that bomb!
Geez the ump screwed GD on an obvious ball 4..
The outside pitch to lefthanded hitters is called a strike repeatedly by every ML ump. They *know* they get these calls wrong all the time. Unlike pitches at the top and bottom edges, there is no ambiguity. The fat fuck lecturing Duggar afterwards .… the day they finally have their pitch calling authority replaced by technology will be a very good one.
Agree. I have continually called for a robo-ump to call balls/strikes. You can still have an ump to make fair/foul calls, and plays at the plate.
Not only does the inconsistency between umps on their strike zones suck, but many of them are inconsistent within the same game. Fuck the umps and their shoddy-ass calling of balls/strikes.
Robô ump like Posey mentioned in the Toyota commercial after a strike call that took the head off of the cardboard hitter :”Man this guy has a tough strike zone.”
Am I wrong, or does Craw look heavier this season than before? He seems to be carrying a bigger bootay and thighs, in particular. Maybe he’s using both cheeks for all these HRs…
That ball sure deceived me, off the sound of the bat and being in Coors
I thought for sure Wilbur had a HR!
The pitcher, the damn pitcher.
Well there ya go. Why have a guy on the mound that walks a run in, when you can have a guy that just throws a couple of pitches to get 3 in?
When the pitcher smokes a basehit for an RBI u know your BP sucks!
The 2 W’s of Webb&Wishler equal WRONG and obvious results..
Meltdown City again. yes walking the 8th hitter bad enough, then wisler hangs sliders and it’s another 6 run inning.
You can’t blame those 6 runs all on Coors, and a squeeze job by the ump.
Walks and well struck hits, including a 2 run single by the friggin’ pitcher against Whisler w/ two outs that paved the way for the next two RBIs. By June, I expect this Pen to look quite a bit different. Don’t they have 50 arms in Sac?…
No love for Eddie and the Hot Rods? Kinda predated the stray cats. Webb and the 4th inning go together like peanut butter and ky jelly.
Gone. We got us a ballgame.
Grave Duggar proving his worth.
I’d take him over Slater any time…
Having good series.
It wouldn’t have changed the score, but I wish Duggar had been digging right outta the box on the triple. Might have gotten an inside the park.
6 tools.
Why is Casali batting instead of Bart?
why did he take Posey’s position in first place? Dude is raking/Casali sucks.
Fuck no way did he swing! And that fucking 1st base umpire was way out of control on his punch out call ferchrissakes!!
Duggar’s toolbox just fell off at homeplate..
Hate to keep repeating it but he’s a bum..
Shoulda, coulda, woulda game.
Dang had chances there in 9th. What a stupid throw through by C with 2 outs.
btw, his fans have to admit–Duggar is the Cory Gearrin of hitters. Watch him–after every single pitch he takes 3-4 steps out of the box, re wraps the velcro, taps the cleats and takes forever to get back in the box and set up. It’s BS when Bryce Harper does it, and same for a borderline ML player.
The human rain delay.
Fuck, listening to Miller on the radio is maddening sometimes. Takes him 20 seconds to tell me if pitches are strikes or balls. That last inning was interminable. I listened for half of the 9th inning not knowing we scored 2 in the 7th and were only down 2. Of course the only other inning I heard was Webb’s 4th inning (come on Mr. Kotter, send him to the principal after THREE!!!) clusterfuck.
Gahhhhhh!! Colorado is no fucking place to play baseball!! Hate Denver, hate the Broncos, I truly hate Horseface Elway, and the Rockies can kiss my shriveled white ass. Fuck that place and everyone in it.
Oh Duggar can still be a borderline player but only in Mexico 🇲🇽 are Canada 🇨🇦
They just showed him doggin out the box on his triple, he’s not good enough do that crap if he wants to stick up here..
i mean, we all wondered why they had 35 relievers in camp or whatever the number was. They knew the bullpen sucked. I’m not panicking over a couple of BP meltdowns in Nepal but the writing is definitely on the wall. If they can keep this going somehow they could always trade for relievers at the break.
Did Grave Duggar think the ball was gone? Doggin’ it is a hell of a lot different that pimpin’ it and being wrong. I didn’t see any of the game, that’s why I’m asking
He thought it was gone, but Blackmon started positioning himself for off the wall. Duggar still got a triple out of it and Ruf brought him in with the HR, but a chance at an inside the park…
Yeah he dogged it like he was posing for pictures. He never started hustling till midway to second base..
i don’t think you know the difference between doggin’ it and pimpin’ it but whatever.
What happened to Posey? I was praying we would pinch hit for Casali to no avail.
Posey felt tightness in hamstring running to 2b according to Baggs. Precautionary move.
Didn’t notice Duggar not hustling on 3b, he hit that ball well. Just a caveat–he had good series vs. Rox, but come on their pitchers are awful to begin with, and even worse at home. giants scored 23 runs and hit 8 bombs in 3 games at Coors. BC raked.
GD was 1-6 vs. San Diego last weekend before Coors and for season is 1-9 at sea level.
Still, Dickerson is 1-11 and 3-17, without a bomb at Coors at all, and slater is not having anywhere near success he enjoyed last year and strikes out a ton. Wouldn’t bother me Duggar survived the weekend.
Unca tight hamstring trying to stretch a single into a double.
But what gets me they bring up Bart but yet Casali bats who can’t hit worth a steaming pile of shit!
Stupid no move there by Kotter..
Denver bit us once again in the arse…
Flores Will welcome the dayoff as well after slamming a pitch off his knee/ thigh area.
Another gawd-awful loss at Coors, done in again by a 6-spot. Glad I missed this one. So the downfall was a bases-loaded walk by Webb to the .200-hitting catcher, and an RBI single by Gray off Wisler. And now Posey’s the latest to leave a game early. It never ends. Good thing tomorrow’s an off day.
Some of the bullpen arms were almost inevitably not going to repeat their 2020 numbers. The extra relievers in ST were to audition potential replacements for those that flopped, I think. Doval, Santos, Littell fall into that category. Unfortunately, the only ones in the pen doing their parts right now are Rogers and Barager. Alverez’s ridiculous 9 walks belie the ERA, but his unusual for a reliever track record is still worth something, for the moment. I agree with Snarkk that the bullpen will look different pretty soon . . . .
I just saw the Grant Brisbee article on the SF bullpen, for those with subscriptions to the Athletic. Obvious references/conclusions, I guess ….
Charlie, loved the Eddie and the Hot Rods stuff. At least the Coors field stuff is over for awhile.
Learning their blues licks, read some Creem magazine, and then English punk comes along. Still have the LPs.
Hard to top the English music seen especially during the 60’s and 70’s.
Saw some vid and commentary on NY Rangers/Wash Caps 6 fights in first 4 minutes and later misconduct and match penalties. So now i want to hear Loo’s side. At least Wilson left game early and didn’t return.
Matt Duffy does it all! Hits game-tying single with 2 outs in the bottom of the 11th, steals second, and scores winning run on Rizzo single as Cubs beat the Bums.
Way to go Duffster!
Helping the Giants even though he’s not a Giant!
Willedav:
After another historic display of gutlessness the other night, this was a half hearted attempt to look tough.
It was just for show and proved nothing. They barely won one of the fights, BTW.
It’s embarrassing to be a fan of this team right now…
