A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Sticking It To The Halos

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 23, 2021

Disco is now firmly entrenched as our #2. Another great performance by him. Bank those W’s.

I know it’s not going to happen, but what about The Grave Duggar getting some of these Slater starts? I know that scares Kap because he give up a little of his match up leverage but it does seem that while still an outstanding Stanford man he might not be quite what we’re looking for when it comes to a reliable lead off hitter. Just something to consider.

I know I’ve touted him before but if you aren’t following JomBoy on twitter you should start. This is a great breakdown by him:

Also I’ve already grown quite tired of these pitchers who act like they can’t believe they’re getting checked. The whole reason it has gotten to this point is because of them–they were all cheating. Stop putting on this stupid public display like you can’t imagine why this is happening…..

I wonder if he is not speaking some English. There was a shot of him in the dugout last night, and he was conversing with someone (now I am not sure if that convo was in English or Japanese).

The game lasted almost four hours anyway, so at that point, it’s not a big difference. 🙂

      • James's avatar James said, on June 23, 2021 at 10:38 am

It was a rhetorical point, given your concern about game times — or is it pace of play? Can we have 4 hour games if everything moves along quickly? What exactly is the problem? If it’s multiple problems, how do you prevent any solution to one from exacerbating another? This rover play happens infrequently enough that citing it is pretty much a red herring.

These shifts are turning MLB into the MBL — Major Beer League.
Not to mention the pitcher strip searches now called for by opposing managers in the middle of an inning.
And umpires each with their own personal narrow, wide, high, or low strike zone…

      • James's avatar James said, on June 23, 2021 at 10:12 am

No, they are hitting the ball to maximize extra base hits because it makes an offense more productive, with or without the shift. It would be irrational to do otherwise.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 23, 2021 at 10:14 am

      • James's avatar James said, on June 23, 2021 at 10:23 am

It’s like the 3 point shot, although the NBA could choose to move back the 3 point line and truly disincentivize the kind of offense the Warriors brought to the forefront. In baseball, if you moved the fences back or deadened the ball, launch angle would still rule, but there’d be even less scoring.

I think “the baseball is more boring than ever because the games/ABs/innings take too long” line is a much stronger argument for declining interest. It’s also becoming even more of a white redneck’s game.

  13. willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 23, 2021 at 10:15 am

Kap will platoon out of LF and CF, but not RF. Yaz is every day guy who plays no matter what.
So last night—Slater 0-4 (victimized by ump) Tauchman hit for him and K’d himself, Dickerson grounded out, so those guys combined 0-6 btw them. Duggar was D replacement with 0 ABs. These guys will get moved around; it’s how Kap rolls and you can’t really argue with him based on record and how many runs Giants are scoring.

Ruf 2-4, including double misplayed by RF but a ball struck well nonetheless. Ruf proving to best hitter of that bunch, and does get on base.
Dubon, starting in CF before moving to 3b, 2-4 with insurance bomb after first inning. Wish Giants had better option to back up SS, but…

Andrew McCutchen just hit a PH Grandslam to take a 9-5 lead!
Red hot Schwaber (sp) has hit a homerun in 9 of his last 10 games, 10 in last 12 games, that’s swinging the lumber..

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on June 23, 2021 at 12:43 pm

Teams will never again trade a Bryan Reynolds for a McCutchen. Or a Wheeler for a Beltran. That’s gone now. The new GMs hoard their top prospects.
The Dodgers did trade Verdugo, but that got them Betts. That’s a unique situation.

      • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on June 23, 2021 at 12:47 pm

Baggs on twitter from cbs sports site noted that if SF can take Ohtani out of box later after using so many pitches in first, Angels would be at disadvantage. Upton is not available and he said they have only 2 man bench. so even if Ohtani went to RF, a pitcher would be batting in RF spot while Giants can keep DH all game.

When will he ever be right? I’m disappointed he’s still on the team.

Duggar just looks like a CF out there.

5 of those pitches from McGee were 97-98 including last one Suzuki drove deep to CF. But having your pitcher up there with game winning run on 2b to face it didn’t work too well for Maddon.

Whatever happens in extra innings, this was a good game.

I hope Tauch knows how to run the bases.

Well, that was ugly. Didn’t even put a ball in play.

Iglesias mowed them down. Buster guessed wrong on that last pitch.

JT’s not very good. He reads quickly but stiffly and his ad libs are lame. “The sun here gets right above the ballpark.” “Hope he didn’t break a bone.”

A ghost hitter being a ghost runner, the Giant hitters probably didn’t even know he was out there..

  74. xoot's avatar xoot said, on June 23, 2021 at 4:28 pm

Why didn’t the giants bunt their runner over? Sac fly here and it’s over

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on June 23, 2021 at 4:29 pm

I think it was Yaz batting.

    • James's avatar James said, on June 23, 2021 at 4:30 pm

      Improvise in the tenth.

In these silly ass extra inning games, the plan should always be sacrifice and loving the runner over. Anything else…I don’t get it.
