Game Two
Really excited for tonight’s match up. I, like many of you, love The Gasman and would have probably picked him as my favorite current Giant if not for The Grave Duggar.
A split in LA was about the best we could hope for. Losing tonight will be a big momentum swing on the season. So, just win baby, just win.
I believe the Gasman to be the central cog in this machine. Excellence has a way of making everyone around you better. We started showing this last year and it has just carried over. I also believe it gave the bore core new life and attitude. The atmosphere and attitude of this team seems to be that everyone is capable of great things.
This music video brings a positive vibe and a few chuckles:
Cool Video Zumie, it does send out positive energy!
Unlike Gavin McLeod(Moritay) in Kelly’s Hero’s, as Odd Ball (Donald Sutherland)
had to keep reminding him :Hey man there you go again with those Negative Waves!
That was the dumbest thing said by Kapler postgame..
We felt confident that Casali could draw a walk!
Huh? It’s 2nd and 3rd with one out and your begging for a walk from a guy that doesn’t even make contact much?
If he’s lost that much confidence in Slater are Dubon to produce there then upgrade your bench with Davis and Vosler. The bench used to be a position of strength, doesn’t feel like that now..
I love these guys
Yeah, the options weren’t exactly ideal in a critical spot that screamed for the batter to put the ball in play:
Casali vs. RHP: .206, 22 Ks in 68 ABs (now 23-69)
Dubon vs. RHP: .233, 30 Ks in 103 ABs
Slater vs. RHP: .205, 33 Ks in 78 ABs.
I’m less concerned about Kap burning the backup catcher spot there; if he thought Casali was the best option, then so be it. Casali only got it to 1-2 before striking out, so the much-desired walk never came close. But the preference is to use a position player there other than catcher. And as Kat and Zum have pointed out, if Kap’s not going to use either Dubon or Slater in that situation, why are they still on the roster?
Here’s the stats on umpires’ ball/strike calling:
https://umpscorecards.com/site-data/umpires.html
Hernandez’ 92.5% accuracy is bottom 25%, but he is not the worst. And there’s no particular reason to single his bad strike 3 calls out.
Wow- there are MLB umps worse than Hernandez. Let’s just absorb that.
Is this just for calling pitches, or is it an overall rating? Because Hernandez is equally inept if not more so on the bases.
Mac, it is just the pitch calling.
I wouldn’t call that a blown call, more like an eyes shut call. Or maybe he was just pissed at Posey. To hang his little umpire hat on the fact that he has a better scorecard than Harry Wendlestedt or Joe West, just doesn’t scream job security to me.
If you go to the teams page, it confirms what I suspected: the Giants get majorly screwed over by the inaccurate ball strike calling:
https://umpscorecards.com/site-data/teams.html
As I posted earlier, this does not mean that SF hitters should start swinging at pitches out of the zone to “protect the plate.” The team still comes out ahead by taking their walks, even if it means they are unfairly punished with more than their share of bogus called strike 3s.
I’ll add that the negative impact on SF of bad calls extends to more than Ks. Hitting behind in the count obviously puts you at a disadvantage. Same caveat about maintaining plate discipline applies.
My interpretation of Kapler’s Casali walk comment: what he meant was, out of the bad choices I had, Casali was as likely to get a hit as Slater or Dubon, and more likely to draw ball 4 against Treinen, who was struggling a little with his command. If Casali walks, the line up turns over to Wade with one out, bases loaded.
mm don’t get the whole momentum thing, good or bad, win or lose tonight. Giants have oldest team in all baseball and lot of seasoned vets who are not type to get too high or too down over one single thing over course of 162 games and 6 months. Crawford is ultimate game face who doesn’t even get excited after a 440 ft bomb, Posey either.
And after leaving LA they get 4 with awful DBax over weekend. Might be some different guys playing for them by then too. Close game that could have gone either way; nothing dramatic about games in June, especially when you are in first place.
Joe Panik on the move again traded to Miami along with minor league pitcher McInvale?
Toronto receives OF Corey Dickerson and reliever Adam Cimber ( solid reliever) Miami also sends cash considerations to off set Dickerson’s contract.
A real fleece job by Bluejays imo..
I think Miami is holding a yard sale again. Maybe we could find a gem in there.
I would be thrilled if they could land Trevor Rodgers, Tyler Rodgers younger brother who’s a left handed reliever and has been lights out.Having both the Rodgers boys would be cool..
Come on willieD what is that. It’s sports of course momentum matters. And if you don’t like something that abstract how bout actual games. Giants win tonight it’s back to a 3.5 game lead, right where it started. Lose and it’s down to 1.5 games. You can bet the team wants this win tonight, bad
Let’s hope Duggar’s mad dash on Saturday didn’t destroy their momentum.
of course they do, just like last night. But they aren’t HS kids Posey and Craw are 10 yr vets and they rule clubhouse. They aren’t going to freak out over a random game in June nor let less experienced do that either. Giants have not had major losing streak beyond sweep by Dogs earlier. Why?
News flash—they are really good team and have good enough pitching and score enough runs to avoid long losing streaks.
Calm down, man, seriously—there’s half the season still left to go
Momentum matters more in an individual game, especially basketball where it often comes down to game of runs that can swing it. But even in short playoff series, look what Clippers have done–twice coming back to win series where they lost first 2 games. Did momentum help those teams? Phoenix last night?
A play like Tauchman catch can fire up a team for next ups, OK. Beyond that I don’t buy it. If Giants had been in a big slump or in 3rd place and suddenly took off and unseated another team for Division lead OK but that isn’t what happened. And winning or losing tonight to Buehler and LA isn’t going to mean jack over next 3 full months…and hopefully more in October.
Thairo playing LF last night went 3-4 with 2b, and Vosler had 2b HR 4-5 3 rbis at 2b. Menez got lit up for 5 hits 4 run and 3 bombs, in 1 inning of relief. yeow enjoy summer in Sacto dude.
The building collapse in Florida has caused so many incredibly sad stories. This young couple, that is still missing, had so many years of life ahead of them.

Santos pitched in three games earlier this season:
fuck. That guy had elite stuff. I guess now we know why.
See WD’s 11:58 above.
Ah it’s been building up. Dubon needs to play every day and be on field. Only concern is in that league he gets HR happy instead of more disciplined at plate. Good luck to him. Thairo is hitting .385 at Sac might as well see if he can help.
Unless some kind of infrastructure bill gets passed, this kind of thing will be repeated.
Yeah, this isn’t directly related, but it applies across thousands of bridges, overpasses and other structures.
As far as the numbers go that were posted, James, what you’re saying is it ISN’T averaging out. So, the idea is to still stand there and take it? They will eventually stop getting screwed?
Sorry, being a passive participant in getting fucked isn’t my idea of a strategy.
Chuck, what I’m saying is that even though they are getting screwed, the strategy of seeing lots of pitches and swinging at actual strikes still works to their advantage. And it is the team’s strategy. Think of it as the woman on top.
Dubious sent down? Wow. Still overlooking Davis. If I’m Davis, I’m asking to be cut loose.
Maybe soon. Think technically his rehab assignment has day or two. Would require move on to 40 man as well, meaning someone coming off.
Thairo up. Dooby down. I’m fine with that let’s see what this guy can do. He’s raking AAA pitching.
I will agree on one thing when it comes to momentum: it porbably matters less in baseball than any other sport just because of how many games there are. But no team is in any position to be losing games because they had trouble bouncing back from a disgusting loss (as that Pujols loss would have been). And losing 2 to LA now, again, that just reinforces the belief that they’re better than us. A split would be very good.
Yes, very good. And you’re right LA games mean lot more to both teams.
We’re 3-5 vs the Dogs, so it isn’t a huge gap. Yeah, I’d like a split, but it isn’t gonna make or break anything.
The game I saw live a month ago made it look like they were vastly superior as we got 2 hits all night. They swept us here, we took 3 of 4 from them down there. Last night we just couldn’t get the one hit we needed.
1. LaMonte Wade Jr (L) 1B
2. Alex Dickerson (L) LF
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. B. Crawford (L) SS
5. Wilmer Flores (R) 3B
6. Steven Duggar (L) CF
7. Donovan Solano (R) 2B
8. Mike Tauchman (L) RF
9. Kevin Gausman (L) P
Sebastian Korda, born July 5 2000 (yikes) is playing Wimbledon tennis. what a family–2 older sisters are champion pro golfers. Think one of them just won a major.
Yeah the Korda sisters Jessica and Nelly.
Nelly just moved to #1 in women’s golf with
her win at the majors.
For what it’s worth Baseball America has moved Bart up to 27 on the total top prospect list; Luciano, who hit a 115 mph HR recently, moves to 7 in all of baseball. Wonder how long he’ll be in low A San Jose now? Longo at 113 is hardest hit HR by a Giant this season.
Speaking of lame 60’s songs (just kidding!) . . .
On the original Nuggets compilation. Still makes me smile.
Maybe you all already knew this information; but I didn’t know the collapsed section was this large until I saw a graphic today. I’ll see if this before-and-after gif works after I post it:

The gif is from USA Today.
It’s as if the earth sucked the big building straight down.
That describes the visual very well.
Huge hit for being a dumbshit for Gregory Santos.
Not just the 80 game suspension he loses half his minor league salary which was $46,000
but also all of his $ 540,000 Major League Contract..
Santos suspension frees up 40 man spot for Davis, whose last day of rehab is today. He can still be in Sac and play.
Luciano is raking this month for san jose, and could be promoted to High A Eugene–attn. Winder.
Patrick Bailey who is under Mendoza line I believe at Eugene, got sent to Arizona Rookie League where Giants have 2 teams that just began play. He’s one of 4 catchers, so this sounds like more of a demotion.
Yeah willedav, I am still planning to make a game or two. I had called about tickets but at the time they were not letting people in. I will give em a call tomorrow and see what they are doing. Most of the state is open now. Think I will wait till it cools down a bit though.
Dubon demotion is right. We all saw it coming. Kid needs more game experience. Needs to become a smarter player in all respects. At bat, in the field, on the basepaths. Anticipate and be situationally smart, not reactive and make dumbass moves in leverage situations…
It’s almost inexplicable to me how so many guys get to the majors with little to no awareness of the most basic things…
And yet, if Dubon simply didn’t hack at pitches like he was Manny Sanguillen, he’d still be with the team.
A close friend was working among the senior leadership of the CPUC when the San Bruno disaster happened. Despite what you heard from the . . . “fake news,” the explosion had as much to do with a patchwork state and national infrastructure built over many, many decades as it did with corporate and regulatory malfeasance and corruption. We are still so much better off than most of the world, but a lot closer to shithole country status than we should be.
Good friend of mine is a forester who does a lot of contract work for PG&E lately mapping and marking where crews need to take down trees and chaparral and raze everything else. They probably need a hundred like him and a thousand more crews. Meanwhile, the ancient hardware and ceramic connectors above, linking the high voltage lines, continue to wear and crack. Our stockpiles of face masks will come in handy this fire season.
Giannis grabs left knee, maybe hyperextended as he hit floor contesting a lob. Up and going off the floor with some help, but unfortunate
way too many injuries this NBA post season. Gotta have something to do with the short off season
Giant-Dodger game moved to ESPN 2 if that helps anybody.
2 more bombs for Ohtani so far tonight…
he’s got the biggest longest swing i’ve ever seen. Every swing looks like he’s going to send the ball 500 feet.
I love Ohtani.
Guy lifts that right front leg like Oh did, and even though he seems way too open, he smokes the ball from below the knees to tomahawk jobs on balls at throat level. Runs like a deer. Could probably be an outside LB in the NFL. If he were on Yanks, he would be everywhere on media…
is this the greatest 2 weeks in MLB history?
Schwarber’s also on some kind of historic tear…
That’s better than Belt’s last 2 seasons.
“ In 380 plate appearances over the last two seasons, Belt is slashing .279/.392/.549, with 20 home runs, and 58 walks to 101 strikeouts. His OPS of 158+ is one of the best in the league during that period.”
Wake he when he does it in one season.
They learning not to pitch to Muncy?
Fuck.If you are gonna hit Turner, drill him in the ribs.
50 pitches?
Oh well. So much for tonight.
Hey, the first inning only took 40 minutes.
Bad idea to give free bases to these cockroaches…
Belt would’ve backhanded that weak LD
Damm it Taylor inside out Flair for 2 run double.
Surprised Bellinger didn’t score as well?Doggin it?
He’s coming off a leg injury, it could be that. But who knows.
One key to that inning for the Dodgers was Muncy refusing to swing at close pitches. He didn’t care whether or not they were called strikes.
Listening on radio. Rizzo is competent, but a good solution for insomnia….
Latest play-by-play annoyance for me.
Any batter who swings and misses at a pitch whether it’s 1 inch or 3 feet out of the strike zone is said to have “chased” it…
Yeah, I’d rather have Muncy than Belt, too.
I’m sorry, Chuck. It hurts to lose every single time.
Lose what? Belt? Surely yer joking. He still blows.
Aaaaaand we lost Tauchman.
That leg twisted oddly against the wall
But he made the great catch and jogs in at the end of the inning. He’s one intense motherfucker.
I’m watching on ESPN, Flemm is doing the game with Jessica Mendoza, who sounds like she’s either talking on a phone or a bad Zoom connection.
Now he stays at first.
Same audio problem here, Mac…
Maybe the bum knee helped his swing.
Who knows?
Yaz banged up, Tauchman twisted knee, It’s time for Jaylin Davis pronto!
Yes, paging Mr. Davis.
I think they’ll have to go through Mays to get to Davis.
And we still pitch to Muncy. He’s become Goldschmidt.
I’m guessing the rest of MLB can keep Muncy in the park more often than not, I wonder how it’s done?
Fuckin’ ridiculous.
Just like Bochy’s strategy vs. Goldschmidt & Arenado.
Here ya go, bash it over the wall again…
But he mustn’t nibble Loo! Nothing is worse than nibbling!
Dodgers Trevor Bauer accused of assault against a woman in LA..
I told you not to touch my sword, bitch!
She probably laughed at his mighty sword.
Could be.
Randy Newman reference.
Give Mendoza the night off. This is ridiculous. Good on Flem for explaining the issue—-and I don’t mind Jess, but this isn’t working.
The elusive base hit.
Picking up where they left off last night.
So are the umps.
This game is still very winnable and this team don’t quit…
Exactly.
When I first go online most mornings, the Flap is the first thing (after emails) I look at, and definitely go here before checking current game situation. Sometimes it’s really easy to tell how the Giants are doing by the comments here. Sometimes not. After reading the above in-game comments, I went to the Giants page, expecting it to be something like 10-0, LA, 8th inning. Only a 3-run game and only 4th inning. Some gnashing of teeth here because it’s the Dodgers? This year’s Giants team has shown they can come back….
You can’t see the futility.
Gausman’s lack of command hast unmanned the best.
No. Hath.
Are there kayaks in the Dodger Stadium parking lot?
No, but it is one helluva parking lot. I think they set it up so 60,000 people can drive themselves to a game.
(Nobody walks in LAJ
Missing Persons ref.
And there are satellites.
I went out walking in Century City one night after dinner and I saw no one else on the sidewalks. I strolled past bentleys lambos etc parked in front of CAA. The guards were the only other people I saw on that warm evening stroll down and back up the hill. Weirdest place to live I’ve seen.
Sales rep I knew who lived there told me no one takes transit either, when I asked her about the 7th inning exit.
The only places anyone does any walking in LA is on Hollywood Boulevard or Melrose…
Friend of mine who lived on the edge of Beverley hills claimed the value of his home was exceptionally high because it was in walking distance of two temples. Rich Orthodox Jews paid a fortune for such access, he said. Those people don’t roll on the shabothos.
We just need to keep beating up the shitty teams.
It’s shaping up as money grab.
He wanted 😍😍😍She wanted 💰💰💰
And why use the internet? Bauer’s an idiot.
But I guess he delivered the high hard one?
She was also into very rough sex, slapping her face, and choking!
Any Willie McCovey moment is a great one!
Even better when he beats the Dodgers!!
Time to turn this OF over. Dick,Slater, and Tauchman are sucking. Can Davis, Ramos, and Estrada do worse?
Ramos had a terrible June in AA ball.
Worse than Tauchman?
Terrible. Must be something wrong.
“Ramos … hit .314 with three homers and an .892 OPS in May. In June, he’s hitting just .159 in 24 games with a .536 OPS.” NBCsports.con
Great AB by Duggar after a ridiculous strike 1 call.
Grave Duggar getting the boys on the board! Let’s go Giants!
My dream outfield right now would be Yaz,Davis,Duggar&Ramos and Wade when he’s not playing 1st..
GraveDuggar coming thru again knocking out Buehler , and getting the good team on the board!
No way I would bring up Ramos when he has been struggling like he has of late. But duck yeah, at least bring-up Kat’s boy. Hope he continues to shine and showcase him for a trade…
Jesus. Umps are killing us.
Dick, Tauchman, and Ruf are the same guy. Lefty guys who make a lot of outs.
Oops, Ruf is righty, but who cares.
Is Casali Kapler’s new bromance Pinch hitter?
If so we’re in deep shit..
Bellinger looks off this series.
He got lost in the Brebbia aisle.
It happens…
Hope Jansen ventures in there.
That works
He was off last night as well, Make him throw Strikes!!
Come on!!!
Good AB there. Craw took a lot of pitches.
