Pickles Win In a Walk Off!!!!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 9, 2021

They had to claw their way back from an early 2-0 deficit but they came out on top 5-4. Quite a night to be a Pickles fan, let me tell you…..

All things considered, this lid is pretty sick.

Last night was the big cheese giveaway.

Back to regular baseball. Webb going for us tonight. I am off to play golf….

Chuckling about the “big cheese giveaway.” Tillamook is approximately 75 miles West and makes some very good cheese (toured the factory during an Oregon coast vacation with my ex-wife long ago). Curious why they gave Velveeta away versus what they’re famous for???

First off, Velveeta is NOT real cheese. Originally, Velveeta was made from real cheese. Today, it’s mainly whey protein concentrate, milk protein concentrate, milk, fat, and preservatives. The shit doesn’t even need to be refrigerated. Even those wrapped American Cheese squares have to be refrigerated. Case closed. lol

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 9, 2021 at 9:58 am

They gave away Velveeta cheese for the fans who like to fish, it’s great bait for trout along with salmon eggs on a sliding sinker and u can pack it in your fishing box with no problems like Blade said it’s nothing but preservatives like cheese whiz in a can!
Can’t believe any real human being would eat this crap 💩 lol

Pickles hat rocks Flavor, along with your photo of Mr.Pickles and you! Freaking Hilarious!
Pretty Kosher of him to hang out and get pickled with him👍 Enjoy your golf day and hit em straight 🏌️‍♂️

after the bottom of the third inning they had a contest where fans went to the field in pairs of two. They stood 10 feet away from eachother and one fan would throw cheese at their partner trying to stick the Velveeta slice to their body. Contest was over once a team stuck 3 slices of cheese to the receiving player. Contest ended in 20 seconds.

I was interested until I read “New York would also receive three of the Giants’ Top-15 prospects.” And with that I say FUCK NO.

Going into this year no one thought we would complete. I do not want to bankrupt the farm system for one guy who has only one year of arbitration left.

I am down with improving the team for a stretch drive, but NOT at the expense of dealing top prospects.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on July 9, 2021 at 10:46 am

No. Too steep. Not worth the risk. Judge is having a great season, playing almost every day for the first time since 2017. That’s a lot of injury down time for a young player. Imo.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 9, 2021 at 12:41 pm

Nope. No trading prospects. Even if this season is WAY above expectations, there’s no way we deal THREE top prospects for a misguided run.

  4. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 9, 2021 at 10:36 am

Judge isn’t a F/A till 2023.If they could get him for Yaz, maybe Will Wilson,Seth Corry, and another lower top 15 prospect you have to interested..

No to Judge. Aside from the injury history, he hits a bunch of cheapo HRs to RF/RCF at Yankee Stadium that would likely be outs at Oracle.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on July 9, 2021 at 12:36 pm

16 of 20 HRs this yr up the middle or pulled per bbref. 11 total on the road.

GM Jed Hoyer with the Cubs is ready to sell now after the Cubs recent 11 game losing streak has sunk their hopes. Players that could likely be on the move include Bryant,Kimbrel,Rizzo,Baez,Chafin.
Kimbrel the closer has been lights out though I’m guessing the Giants still have a bromance for McGoo( sigh)
Chafin a LHP reliever would be a welcome addition to the BP as he’s been solid all year.
Don’t see them making a play for Bryant,Baez,Rizzo maybe?

Kerry Crowley says Beede in line somewhere tonight out of pen, with Webb (to be activated today, no word what else happens) as SP on pitch count limit 50-60.
Says Kap is going with DeSclafani tomorrow in day game followed by Gausman Sunday, so he’ll go to AS game in Denver but that’s it.

Nats SP is from Panama, RHP Paolo Espino. Has made 3 recent starts though earlier was used more often out of pen. First 2 he combined 10 innings 8 hits 0 runs 1 BB. Last time out he lost to Dogs: 4 IP 3 hits 3 runs 3 BBs on 70 pitches, 0 HRs. Pretty good numbers overall though, ERA under 3.00 WHIP under 1.00.
Lester the LHP goes Saturday. Looks like other than Brad Hand they only have one other LHP in pen, so Giants LHs should be able to stay in lineup.
any word on Wade Jr. or Posey?

I think fans are willing to go with the novelty uniforms to a point. They need to make some kind of sense, though. One year in the 2000s the Giants and Cubs wore early 1900s-styled uniforms vs. each other in a series. That was fun and made sense.
In a night game a few years ago, the 49ers wore all-black uniforms. It just didn’t make any sense.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 9, 2021 at 12:50 pm

What’s funny about the whole thing is, they are called City Connect.

Then put The City on the unis! There’s NOTHING on the unis that. Chicago gets Southside. That’s pretty cool.

I haven’t seen any of the others so, whatevs, but these look like the Gilroy Oranges uniforms. Half a G and half a bridge. Dumb.

Presumably SF’s chief trade criterion for a major name will be how likely they think the player is to make a difference during a playoff run.

Which group do you think has a better chance to approach the playoff success of 3 in 5:

    Gausman/Desclafani/Wood –> Lincecum/Cain/Bumgarner/Vogelsong

    or

    McGee/Rogers/Alvarez/Garcia –> Wilson/Romo/Lopez/Affeldt

    ?

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 9, 2021 at 12:43 pm

The relief pitching doesn’t really compare, that’s for sure.

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 9, 2021 at 12:59 pm

mm Wood not so sure about either vs. playoff teams. Regardless hard to see too many of either 2021 group around very long. Interesting though, thx James

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 9, 2021 at 12:55 pm

Where’s Cueto? Come on, man. The pen is not even in the same ballpark.

Beyond that, only Bummie was a constant in all 3 WS runs.

    • James's avatar James said, on July 9, 2021 at 1:01 pm

Was figuring 3 man rotation, Chuck, but sure, add him in.

The bullpen track records aren’t there, for sure. Those 4 are having pretty good years, despite the general mistrust the pen has sown. I could see it going either way in a playoff run, surprising success or a couple backbreaking meltdowns.

So, Zumie and UC would be targeting Kimbrel . . . .

      • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 9, 2021 at 1:05 pm

Yes, if Kimbrel could be had in a reasonable trade. Every Flapper’s definition of reasonable in this trade might be different.

      • James's avatar James said, on July 9, 2021 at 1:23 pm

Kimbrel’s blown 2 saves, just like McGee. They have pretty much the same save percentage. Just cling to that when Zaidi doesn’t bother to enter the Kimbrel sweepstakes!

    • James's avatar James said, on July 9, 2021 at 1:16 pm

WillieD, Wood does have a lot of playoff experience, FWIW. If the team SF is facing is weaker against LHers, I could see Kapler going with him. He had a great WS start against the 2017 Astros.

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 9, 2021 at 1:27 pm

makes senxe. Dogs LHs scare me the most in their lineup. Turner and Betts are tough hitters too of course.
Separate discussion, but if Giants have all old guys back in there, also improves defense quite a bit, which should make Rogers life easier. Kap seems in on him being 8th inning guy without bothering L/R matchups.

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on July 9, 2021 at 2:45 pm

Definitely the unlikeliest of the 3 titles…

The Giants have a great opportunity to rest and prepare for the end of July over this AS break. They play ten straight starting that Friday including series in StL and LA with the bums coming to SF soon thereafter. Pirates sandwiched in may help, but that two week stretch may be crucial. Takes us right up to the trade deadline, right? High flying astros come in after that.

yes, .202. Slusser said he is 11-26 at the O. He hit his 2nd HR here couple weeks ago vs. A’s.

The blinding white of the uniforms is going to give me a headache, though.

Shouldn’t the fog be above the G and above the numbers?
Doesn’t fog usually come in from above?
I think it does back here…

wow the guy clubs one and Nats right back in it..

Alvarez is all angry at the ump. Like, whatever, dude.

    • James's avatar James said, on July 9, 2021 at 8:04 pm

The walk to Bell was the fault of an incredibly shitty ump, who missed two strike calls. It affects how the inning plays out.

  58. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 9, 2021 at 8:01 pm

Not a good play by Duggar letting that ball bounce away.
Alvarez is hot at probably the ump and a player doing his whine fake tears.
If he pitched better he could of stopped whining anyway..

OK, somebody ‘splain why with 2 outs you pitch there to Parra in the 8 hole and don’t walk him to get to the pitcher’s spot.
And, this Brebia dude hasn’t exactly looked great. How long a rope does he have…

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 9, 2021 at 8:12 pm

Kapler apparently doesn’t believe in that. it has happened a few times. I’m more pissed at the location of the 0-2 pitch.

      Casali likes home cooking

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 9, 2021 at 8:17 pm

Well Kap may not like it, but I think it’s a BS move not to do the intentional walk. You either get the pitcher out early and make the Oppo use a PH, or you take a chance the #8 guy gets a hit. I don’t care about lefty/righy, it’s early. And even if you pitch to the #8, they should all be out of the zone by a lot…

Tough to get a legitimate season going like Yaz when he’s constantly being the human piñata for pitchers.
He’s been banged up since the last game of ST..
Has to easily lead the team in beanings.
