One Trade
With the deadline fast approach, if you were only able to swing one trade who would it be for? I went back and forth on this. I think we desperately need Craig Kimbrel but the haul it will take to get him would be high. I think we need a RH power bat to play first base and for me that’s either CJ Cron or Jonathan Schoop. Neither of them should cost too much, Schoop obviously more than Cron.
Knowing Zaidi’s penchant for the underwhelming, I think the most likely and best move he makes is for CJ Cron.
thoughts?
A’s get Kat’s choice for the bullpen. Not happy with Ruf’s production at 1B or you think it’s going to drop off?
i don’t like Ruf. Seems to fall into the category of the aged POTD you dropped on us low those many months ago. And Schoop would give us a little more position flexibility.
Only one trade? Kris Bryant would be my pick, but only if the trade includes him signing a three-year deal with a fourth year option.
I’d get set up guy, Raisel Iglesias from Angels or Daniel Hudson. Loo’s guy Barlow from KC would work too. Not interested in high price closer. None of these guys would be expensive to acquire; someone off 40 man or 26 should be enough.
Ruf has some of best stats on entire team. He has 10 bombs and 18 XBHs in 133 ABs, fits Kap platoon at 1b perfectly. He and Flores (12 bombs) are good reserves to have off bench behind Longoria and Belt.
any of those set up guys would be welcomed addition to our beleaguered bullpen
Chafin would of made a nice addition to are bullpen, oh well, and the A’s really didn’t give up much in return, so the Giants could of done a similar deal..
Yeah I think Cron is similar to Ruf , they both mash LH pitching equally so no reason to add him..
Ok latest trade proposal from Mark DeRosa, known as Dero Demolition on hearing SS Trea Turner being available:
Trea Turner SS/2B/OF to the Giants for Bart,Matos, and Wilson
Turner can play the rest of the year at 2nd base and some CF
Turner’s avg thru 95 games is .320 with 38 extra base hits..
For a Bullpen Arm the guy I’m now interested in is RH reliever Richard Rodriguez from Pittsburgh
He’s been solid out of they’re BP the last 2 years especially, good ERA , great WHIP ..085 even has 14 saves
so you could go the 3 headed monster rotation of,Rodriguez,McGoo,Rodgers in save opportunities in different matchups.
Trade Canário and 1 lower prospect?
I see this one happening for Rodriquez with a long history of these two clubs dealing with each other…they got good production out of Reynolds and Stratton in recent deals. So they know we are not trying to screw them over ala Jason Schmidt…I think…
The one guy I have been on for more than a year is Kris Bryant because of his potential longer term potential to sign as a free agent. So stated yday and agree with Chi that you make that deal if you can get an agreed to extension. But thoughts of packaging him with Kendricks less likely with mlb trade rumor story that the Cubs are not shopping Kendricks.
But if the Trey Turner story is to be believed then that solves next year’s SS issue, gives us a CF this year and lead-off guy for rest of the year and next and willing to part with Bart for that deal. What other prime time pieces can we add to get Scherzer added to that deal???? Bart, Will Wilson, Seth Corry, Canario or Bishop, and I would not want to add Kyle Harrison to this deal but to get both Turner and Scherzer I think I would live with Harrison going. Luciano only untouchable. Ramos I would even consider in lieu of Canario or Bishop but I would not then want Harrison added to that deal…
It’s being reported that Scherzer has let the Nats know he’d accept a trade to the West coast. Obviously he has a no-trade clause.
F the Flodgers….cant let them get him…
The Scherzer contract is interesting that the remainder of his 2021 salary is deferred until 2028 so would just be a cap hit for this year, which we have plenty of cap space for luxury tax purposes. Also, the deferred signing bonus of $7.5 is all owed by the Nats. Maybe assuming that debt may lessen the prospect threshold by then not having to add Kyle Harrison and Ramos comes off the list as well. Bart the prime piece with Seth Corry…
Scherzer hasn’t exactly been great lately….
if we could get turner for the package of players Kat listed I would do that in a nano second
Well happy Tuesday everybody. Love all the pre-deadline rosterbation. Still can’t post with my phone, haven’t been on as much as I’d like. Just wanted to drop in and say hey. I have never really been one to follow the rest of the league, so I have no clue what I would want in a trade. Other than say a Kris Bryant. But, that Trea Turner idea is certainly intriguing.
Sarge!
We need you here!!
Thanks Loo! I appreciate that. I’ll try to post more. Still haven’t figured out this wordpress issue. I’m using my work computer right now.
Good to see you here, Del. Hope you can make it regularly, brother.
I think it will take a significant package on Turner (based on what I have read). He will not come cheap. I just do not see that as a priority, and not sure Kat’s suggestion will be enough to get the deal done.
Never happening…
Well I think getting Turner would be a huge addition with his flexibility to play multiple positions and leadoff and it’s not locked in stone they resign Craw, though probably likely. But it sure adds a great SS and a slugger with 18 bombs like Craw in your LU. And just to keep him away from the Dogpile who would have significant interest due to Seager’s questionable availability, the Giants should jump on it. U can always change the prospects some to make it fit. He’s by far the best impact player that would fill a need and keep pace with both Dogpile and Padres who are certain to make deals.Frazier already added by Maxi Pads and a GM Prieller who’s very aggressive picking up players along with Dogpile GM Friedman.
Shit I would be interested in Mad Max as well to add another top notch rotation guy.If he wants to go to a West Coast team :SF open your pearly gates and add him, for the same reasons to keep him away from the Dogpile and Maxi Pads.
I disagree, and would go for Kris Bryant over Turner. And I do think they sign Craw for next year.
He’s flexible, but he’s primarily a SS and our guy is having his greatest season.
I just don’t see it…
Chi..Oh I’m not arguing they won’t resign Crawford, he’ll if it’s Craw at SS and Turner at 2B 2 all stars turning DP’s would be great. And just and hopefully doesn’t happen Craw gets hurt again u have a A/S SS filling in.Of course Turner could get hurt as well but it just adds extra depth, and with Turner extra positions to play as well with OF in the mix..
And yes Bryant would be an awesome fit as well, playing LF and 3B other major needed upgrade right now, so I’m sure Z/H are turning over every stone right now looking for there best fits down the stretch..
We likely find out how much the other teams value Bart (or not.)
Did drafting Bailey show how much the Giants value him?
they sent Bailey to High A, where he sucked, and then demoted him to Low A. Let’s just say he’s a ways away. so is the other C, Genoves who isn’t hitting much either.
immediate backups to Posey, this year and next, are Casali and Tromp. Casali is OK once or twice a week, Tromp even less than that. No idea what happens with Bart, but other than him not much of C quality in system.
Yes Bailey has a long way to go, but he is a Zman draft pick, not Bart, so that could be a factor in getting what u can for Bart if a deal looks right. They’re obviously going to resign Posey and I’m fine with that, he’s still one of the elite catchers in baseball and that’s his most value playing there. And besides look at Molina still catching at 39, Posey’s much younger then him.Get Bailey up to speed hopefully and they will be ok going forward..
Taylor Rogers? Tyler’s twin on the Twins? Who Twinfan would love?
funny. but I think Taylor hurt his finger recently, maybe yesterday.
hell, it was his middle finger.
Your right Xoot it was Taylor’s middle finger👆really bad timing for the Twins before the deadline.
It would be cool to have 2 Rodgers for double ulcers for flappers, but seriously a good add from the left side and I’m sure would be stoked for Tyler having him in the BP alongside him
Maybe the Giants could get him cheaper now if he goes on the IL, are the Twins just hold on to him and trade him in the winter now..
Yeah, Bailey I hope is just getting more ABs in low A. Not off off a great start. Before this season I’d say hell no to trading Bart, but what to we do in the meantime? Casali seems pretty decent now that he’s recovered from his hand injury. Posey gets his big fat last year of his deal, but what then?
I suppose we can wait and see, but I think the team is still pretty high on Bart (that’s the best way to travel, BTW) and they don’t want to be losing him like they lost Reynolds. Especially given that Bart was the #2 overall pick. Reynolds went in the 2nd round. I guess the deal if he stays would be to get him his once every 4 days starts provided he can hit off the bench next year.
It just seems like a huge risk to trade Bart. They’d better get something very good.
Chron says 9 PM tonight on PBS local channel 9 KQED is American Masters documentary “Buddy Guy: the Blues Chase the Blues Away” 83 minutes. Directed by Devin Amar, Matt Michener and Charles Todd. Strats up.
cool. thanks. I see there’s also a short one-hour doc on Chuck Berry airing before that.
The music documentaries in that series are great. There’s one on Les Paul that is excellent.
I wonder if Posey has said anything about his wishes for the next 3-4 years. He’ll always be one bad injury away from retirement, but 350 ABs a year of >800 OPS from him plus an ok back up doesn’t seem any less likely an outcome than Bart fulfilling his potential in that time. It would still put SF ahead of most teams and be Posey’s ticket to the HOF, as far as he or anyone else cares.
Not sure how long Buster wants to play, but he has said many times he wants to retire a Giant. Do they turn his option into a two-year deal with an option?
Yes great points James!
I’m in the belief that Posey and the Giants are revitalizing the catcher position and a lot of teams seeing what a healthy Posey will do the same.Catchers take such a beating, blocked balls, shots off there masks/ fingers/ shoulder/wrists etc just wears catchers down.Posey’s avg OPS going back to 2015 are like .825 first half .750 second half, big difference. But the Giants are wisely using him( I know it frustrates can but so what) giving him a dayoff after a night game are like this Casali on Sunday, Buster gets 2 full days off before now the Dogpile series where he will be fresher and 7 of his HR’s and come off a dayoff he’s taken. Yes the days of Catchers in there for 150 games should be a thing of the pass.Plus another thing the Giants have totally abandoned using Posey at 1st base, probably a mutual agreement by both and I’m good with that as well, just be available to PH and save the body and legs even playing 1st. it’s not necessary they have plenty of candidates playing there…
As little as Farhan is tied to the past regime, Posey is as dyed-in-the-wool Giant as any player can be. Regardless of his HoF status. Which I think becomes pretty solid if his season continues the way it has. That includes Mays and McCovey. Both who left, of course. But they will have to offer him something pretty short after next year. Even if he decides to keep playing. Like a 2 year deal. And if that is the case, then they should trade Bart if the idea is to have Posey for 3 more years. I wonder if Posey says he wants to retire to be with his children. I think that is a distinct possibility after next year.
And I’m really leery of them trading Bart though. It could really bite the G’s in the ass. Depends on Posey and what he wants to do in the future.
Holy shit. Channelling you again.
It’s not really channeling unless you throw in a gratuitous mention of OPS in order to meet Flavor’s expectations.

Wow Christian Yelich placed on the 10 day IL due to Covid-19 positive test even though he’s fully vaccinated!
Yes, the vaccine only promises to keep a person from getting really sick from the virus. The data on how well it blocks a person from getting the virus in the first place is incomplete still.
So your saying Tauchman could still have a chance of getting Covid?
Other than Wilson, promoted to AA in Richmond where he’s hitting just above .200, many (certainly not all) of the higher rated prospects in Giants system were from Sabe/Evans days—Luciano Ramos Hjelle and the young guys lighting it up at San Jose. Dubon and Davis of course acquired in trades by Z.
Don’t think that factors into future plans etc.
Webb was 2014 Giants draftee, not arb eligible for another year
huh. Nats announce Strasberg to undergo thoracic outlet surgery says MLBTR. ends this season and they hope he’ll be ready for 2022.
Does this make it less likely they deal Scherzer away to one of Giants SoCal competition?
Stras wasn’t playing anyway, why would that affect Scherz?
NL East is crapshoot, no one looks any good. If they traded him and were without Scherzer, and with Stras recovering from yet another injury, Nats road lot tougher next season, no?
GMs today really try to avoid that dreaded word……rebuild. Even when they actually ARE rebuilding they try to avoid it, because fans get very irate about it these days. It’ll be interesting to see how the Nats GM plays things this week.
Buster might want to play awhile now that the first set of twins are old enough to enjoy it.
I think that rather than pay him $22 million next year, they exercise the $3 million buyout and re-sign him for say 2 more years with an option at a little more reasonable number.
Think Buster would be open to that?
My thoughts exactly on my 1:10 post. I think he would be completely open to it, especially if him saying he wants to retire a Giant is true.
Yup. Didn’t see your post, Chi.
Hope they can work that out…
1. Austin Slater (R) CF
2. Buster Posey (R) C
3. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
4. Darin Ruf (R) 1B
5. Wilmer Flores (R) 3B
6. LaMonte Wade Jr (L) LF
7. Donovan Solano (R) 2B
8. Thairo Estrada (R) SS
9. Logan Webb (R) P
BEAT LA!
I’d flip Slater and Estrada.
You and I both, Zum…
Me, three…
Anyone making the journey to the yard tonight? I’ll be there.
Have fun Del and bring us a win, brother.
I guess this is the latest on Scherzer…

Turner just got pulled from the Nats game
Giants baby make it so!
No trade he hurt himself
Yeah I think his left knee hit the 3rd base bag hard, but it’s probably only for precaution for sure.Nats aren’t going to push anything especially if 5 are more teams are ringing the phones..
And this is why the Mariners haven’t been to the playoffs in 19 years the longest streak going in all of sports!
One game behind the A’s for a playoff spot they just traded from there strength their BP. Randal Graveman&Rafeal Montero to the Astros for infielder Abraham Toro &RHP Joe Smith ( I use to be a Warrior)a team in there own division no less and there playing each other tonight.Mariner fans and players are both pissed off. MLB Ainsinger& Reynolds& Plesac are in shock..this is a stunning head scratcher..
You can bet guys like Seager who wanted them to upgrade wants out and maybe now my Haniger move could still be out there!
I am more concerned about who we give up than who we get in return. I know potential only goes so far but i don’t like the idea of turning over 3 of our good prospects for a 37 yr old pitcher. I would rather get Bryant than Kimbrel. And I would still be a little stingy on who we gave up. I am with GH on Harrison, they would have to make a very sweet deal.
From what i read earlier we might get some action from Miami about who though i don’t know.
When LA beats SF tonight, which one will the Flap be howling for
A closer
A starter
An OFer who hits with RISP against lefties
?
Hey, a little pessimism never hurts your team’s chances . . . .
Depends on how we lose
Man unbelievable it’s being reported that Trea Turner just tested positive for Covid!!
So much for a trade now. The Nats can’t ketch a break even in trades right now. It really comes down to contact tracing and how do you eliminate that scenario?
These guys got vaccinated didn’t they?
The Delta variant is way more contagious than the original Covid-19.
And there’s about a 100 million eligible Americans refusing to get vaccinated.
If you got the J&J, there’s about a 1 in 3 chance of contracting it. The vaccines prevent and mitigate, but you can get unlucky or, really unlucky. There aren’t any definitive numbers on the Pfizer/Moderna with the Delta, but a 1 in 10 chance of getting it, especially if you’re around the unvaccinated and not being careful, is a stat that both explains the power of the vaccine to help and the fact that, well, it’s not going to be all that rare to hear of cases like Turner.
So glad I got the Pfizer. That appears to be the best at no side effects (none for me and my family) and best at stopping the variant.
But is he one of them? The NFL is cracking down hard on players that don’t get vaccinated. Teams/players will be forced to forfeit games w/o pay if they have to cancel due to COVID.
Some of you locals will recognize this place. Only been around for 160 years.
are you there? I grew up there. Lived a half mile away when I was a kid and go there all the time still.
Just left
First time my mom took me there was 1968. We used to go to Searsville lake and then gothere for burgers after.
what brought you over here?
Staying with my daughter in PA for a couple days while my wife has another 60th b-day party with the 3 friends that couldn’t make the first one. Crazy driving around here to all the places we used to go. Gonna hit the Goose at some point. Sadly, the O is gone, but prolly gonna hit the Rose and Crown as well.
Might hit the game tomorrow.
I don’t remember it looking so clean.
Band reunited–Littell sent down with Sac (joins Menez) and Long recalled.
Kind of like Spinal Tap at the amusement park, co-headlining with a puppet show.
Giants need to win at least one game. Just don’t get swept.
More than one win would be a real nice bonus.
ZZ Flop
Fuck that.Take ’em all. The Dogs are reeling. And, if the only reason to get Scherzer is to keep him off the Dogs/Pads, fuck it. No way we give away talent for a 37 year old guy. Let him crash/burn at Petco.
or the latrine
His stats continue to be amazing though. 105 innings only 60 something hits allowed.142 K’s and only 25 walks that alone is incredible, with an era of 2.83 ,the guy is a bigtime 1 pitcher still. And any contender would want him on there staff in the playoffs.
What was the injury to Longoria — he had a shoulder.
Was is separated, and they just never admitted that, or what?
He’s been out seemingly forever…
They’ve been saying a shoulder sprain.
Giants are busting out the 3-0 uniforms.
Well there it is, the massive unexpected curve ball with Turner getting a positive covid test. Probably bad karma putting a hex in the idea of a trade for Turner and probably not likely Scherzer is in play for us. Any Berrios chatter? That seemed to have dried up.
And with our luck Flodgers will land Scherzer. The Flodgers turning on Bauer is an interesting read in the SmelLA Times…
Oh jesus. Thought we were the Marlins for a sec.
Big Sweaty Jr?
Fuuuuuuuuuuuckies.
Wow- he hung that slider to Smith. Caught a break.
Not sure if that’s a good start, Flem. 2 to the wall?
A pitcher shouldn’t wear a single digit number…
Crowd sure don’t look that big.
Dodgers starting OF might be worse than ours…
Yeah Loo Dogs OF weak. thought remembered this guy–billy Mc Kinney played for KC/O Kings late 70s. Otis Birdsong Phil ford Sam Lacey also local guy Marlon Redmond of Balboa HS and USF. Good teams too, 47-48 Ws for Cotton fitzsimmons.
Loo dog!
Sit down Bellinger 0-31 against the Giants! Begging for a walk on a perfect pitch by Webb..
Why not show Wade’s parents after he K’s?
Wade 0-30 vs lefties.
Yeah true but Bellinger 0-31 against both LH and RH against the Giants..
Wade does not look that overmatched by lefties. He may not be particularly good against them, but the 0-30 is just one of those freak stretches.
After about 0-20 v. LHPs, and doing well against RHPs, it’s not freakish, it means you can’t really hit lefties…
It’s Bruton, not Burton.
So shoddy…
Estrada is impressive batting
Thairo hitting .351 – same average as batting title winner Soto last year…
Seeing a play like that you gotta love the shift.
Webb works quickly…
Webb very sharp, now if they can only get it going against Uranus..
Think it’s going to be a Posey HR…
Single works..
A very East Coast friendly game so far.
If the ball is carrying so well, why can’t we even reach the warning track?
James–if you cannot display the skill you do not have it. 0-30 is complete failure. Could it be a blip over the course of a career? Sure, I guess. But there is a reason his teams don’t let him hit vs lefties. They know he can’t them and he LITERALLY can’t do it. Believe in the inability until the skill gets displayed. That’s the way to look at this.
5th and 6th are kryptonite for Webb. At least it used to be.
trying to run on a good Stanford man, LMAO
Lol yes that was a perfect strike to 2nd by Slater💪
Well if Bellinger got a hit, so will Wade.
I guarantee it…
He looked overmatched that time.
Urinal throws a fucking curve EVERY 1st pitch.
Wade sure looks overmatched by Urias James..
Tyro gonna go deep
fuck
I’m in Maryland for a few days, a little north of Baltimore. Tonight I met up with a friend from DC and we went to see the Aberdeen Ironbirds, an Orioles A-ball team, at Ripken Stadium that’s about 15 minutes from where I’m at. The game starts, and batting third as the Ironbirds DH is none other than Chris Shaw. He had no stats for Aberdeen, but I’ve since found out he started the season with the Orioles’ Norfolk Triple A team, must’ve gotten injured in late May and has just started a rehab assignment. Shaw went 1-3 with 2 Ks and ripped a 2-run double over the RF, though there was a bad relay and we thought he should’ve taken third on the play. It later occurred to me to take a picture of him, but his next time up he was pinch-hit for in the 7th.
very cool.
A Giants first round pick; ouch.
Didn’t we see Aberdeen play the Cyclones in Brooklyn?
Possibly, they’re in the same league as Brooklyn.
“Jon Morosi
@jonmorosi
Sources: The #SFGiants have spoken with the #Cubs about Kris Bryant, and the Cubs are evaluating 24-year-old catcher Joey Bart as one candidate to be requested on their side of the talks.”
What is happening? Bart? LOL, if that’s what the cost is for Bryant you pay that and then send free future rim job vouchers to the GM……
How many RJVs you think it’ll take?
RJV’s? Now, we’re talking their GM can cash them in WHENEVER he wants right? And it’s gotta be Zaidi paying it off….hmmmm…..I’m going with 3
Giants supposedly want more than just Bryant for Bart, given Bryant is a FA end of the year.
Webb has a smudged in crab face to me🦀
