Kris Bryant COME ON DOWN!!!!!
So it appears all I had to do is give up on Z and say I’m headed off to the casino for the day.
Farhan I apologize. You did not choke. The moment wasn’t too big for you. We just scooped up THE BEST BAT ON THE MARKET!!!!!!!
Conflicting reports on who we gave up but if it’s Wade and Bart……
Look, Z’s specialty is scooping up waiver wire guys like Wade. He could probably find 3 of them in his seat cushions if he looked hard enough. And Bart? Eh, whatever, pay up NOW for a known stud like Bryant. I’m not gonna shed any tears over Bart going off down the road and he could easily turn out to be nothing.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! We got a bat baby!!!!!
Ok now i’m off to the casino, later.
You beat me to the wooooohooooooo!!!!! This is huge.
glad to have you on board matey NOW LET’S GO GET A PIZZA PIE!!!!!
KNBR reporting two minor leaguers down the list (Canario and Killian) are going to the Cubs.
Nobody else. Killian looks good, but who knows with pitchers?
If yes, that’s a steal…
All sources agree.
MLB Network screws up and makes nothing of it…
Yeah they fucked that up Loo.Think it was Amsinger ( sp) that has shit on his face!!
Maybe they both know Bryant might come back to the Cubs after the season is over…
Tony Watson coming back to the Giants Pen…
If that is what we gave up, I am pissed. I’ve never bought into the “Baer still has power on player moves” theory, but this has me rethinking that. I hope we have the package wrong. No way in hell did I think Z would give up Wade and Bart for 3 months of Kris Bryant. Smacks of a Sabean/Baer panic move.
I HATE THIS TRADE
Wade and Bart not in the deal???? THEN I’M DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS
It’s Canario and Killian, Dog.
Down, boy…
Sources saying Wade and Bart are still Giants…
Would be disappointed if Bart is in this deal…Wade and Bishop would have been a square deal…
It’s Outfielder Alexander Canário #9 prospect and Caleb Killian RHP #30 prospect .. Steep but I would rather keep Bart and Wade around for sure..
Like they say you have to give up talent to receive talent. But Bryant’s ready now and you put him at cleanup and 3rd for now and light your Cigars and have some cocktails boys!!!
Kat, if Bryant performs, I think that’s a minor steal by Farhan.
If Bryant goes back to Cubs next season, then you have to squint at the deal, but not much if Bryant helps get to the NLCS…
Do you still squint if he signs with someone other than the Cubs or us???
He’s gonna be a summer rental, so get your eyelids ready…..
Well, Farhan had to give up something of at least some FUTURE value to get a bat like Bryant’s.
The future is unpredictable for those two farmhands.
He had to get a good player to counter the LA and Pads moves…
Watson for the Angels has a 1.18 WHIP and given up 25 hits in 33 frames, with 25 Ks.
Not bad, maybe he’ll get better back at Oracle
Sam Selman sent to the Big A in exchange…
Just a few too many walks this year, otherwise same guy we had. Nice pick up.
Bryant seen crying…
With joy ? …
Nope.
I think just general emotion…
He’ll be all smiles once he gets here
Also he now has a friend to cry with in Wilmet. Those two can cry all day for all I care
Don’t forget the cryer who paved the way for them . . . .
Well he’s only been with this organization his whole career, he will get over it, he’ll even Wilmer was crying when he got traded. They have to lock in Bryant though. Why would he go back to the Cubs anyway after they just blew up there whole team and traded all his buddies away?Make new memories with a team with great chemistry!!
Ok so it’s 2 guys I literally don’t care about? Z is a God!
Plus, he gives up fishy Sam Salmon to get Watson back for the stretch drive? That’s a definite win for the Giants on that if Watson performs somewhere near his past…
Who gets axed? Dickerson? Sending Wade back to the minors would be brutal.
Vosler?
He was already going for Belt or Longoria.
I would vote for cutting Dick lose, but I bet they option Wade…
Hopefully this is not a Zach Wheeler situation where we are not able to keep him longer term…I really liked Killian.
They needed a RH bigger bat, Bryant was the one out there, and ZMan got it.
Nice move.
Bryant can play OF or play 3rd if Longo can’t make it back, even 1b.
This puts real backbone into the Giants LU.
If Longo actually comes back and is fairly OK at bat, the LU gets a lot better…
I’m not sure how much longer they can carry GD, Slater, Ruf & Dick.
Someone’s gonna get a phantom injury…
There you go….lat strain for Dick. I can see it now.
Duck can help his father make Philly Cheesesteaks everyday..
Dick
Cant rule out Belt either Atleast for the last few months and playoffs adding additional offense.
Nice to get these guys back soon as well and knock on wood stay healthy ..
If we can sign Bryant up to a new contract then I think it was a great move. I liked both of those guys we gave up.
Quite an impressive resume for Bryant:
2 time All American In college Golden Spikes Award/ Dick Howser Award 2013
Player of the year by Baseball America 2014
ROY 2015
NL MVP 2016
Hank Aaron Award 2016
W/S champion
4x All Star 15,16,19,21
Yes we landed a “BALLER”
Welcome to the SF Giants Kris Bryant, take no prisoners and let’s win it all!!
Holy shit. When I heard it was Bart and Wade, I shit my clam chowder. The exact move I didn’t want. Since it ain’t what the hell. Canario looks like an interesting guy but we’ll see in a few years. We got a solid bat and the platoonies will be over at one more OF spot. If Longo ever comes back.
Be nice to think we can sign him long-term, but I doubt it.
He gonna be here in time to play Houston? Don’t forget Glasschez cried on the way to our dugout.
I cried when they picked up Casey McGehee to play 3rd..
A tough roster decision coming up regarding Wade. But who knows how things will work out for Belt the rest of this season, injury-wise.
And presumably Sanchez — surely not Leone or Jackson — gets moved out of the pen for Watson. There’s also the Thairo question. Dickerson and Solano haven’t been terrible, but below par.
Or Longo.
Z scooped up the best available bat on the market. That’s a stud move especially for 2 suckers who probably won’t ever do shit at the MLB level. Great move by him. And bringing Watson back was also solid
Killian was doing well in AA ball as SP after being promoted. 2.43 ERA in x amount of starts. One of their better pitching prospects, so little ouch there.
Canario was behind number of other OF prospects.
Here is slash line for San Jose: .235/.325/.433 15 SBs 9 HRs in 238 ABs also 79 Ks Does play CF
Key still is whether Bryant stays or walks. Gonna take yrs/$$$ I’d imagine. Doubt he goes back to Cubs–remember they screwed him over on service time by delaying when they called him up years ago.
think a grievance was filed on his behalf over service time.
Giants gave up some decent minor leaguers, but not even close to giving up the farm. Those guys may never get to the bigs. Right now, this looks like a good deal for the Giants.
If Bryant produces through the stretch drive and into the post season, well worth it…
does add an everyday player to lineup. Platoon splits, he’s .850 OPS vs. RHP, and 1.003 vs. LHPs. Almost even splits at home/away too. One less position Kap has to platoon out of.
thought I read Canario was on 40 man too, so that saves roster spot.
They will be fine in the outfield.
They still have Ramos,Bishop, and these 2 guys that have moved passed Canário in the Giants braintrusts
Outfielders Matos&Pomares are really going to be good imo..which of course doesn’t count for a hill of Beans..
Really Caleb Killian is the one that’s tough to swallow he’s already showing tremendous growth. But it is what it is and worth easily to pull the trigger on for Bryant!
Funny the faith factor was running out on Flavor as he needed to hit the Casino 🎰
Hand it to Z/H too make us wait with minutes to go to get this deal done.In Farhan we still Trust!
He slow played it. I respect the.hell put of that actually
Canario had been out of lineup for couple days too apparently, but played yesterday (0-3).
Killian could be a #3 or #4 for the Cubs potentially later next year with how smooth is delivery is.
He’s a good hitter, but what I really like about Bryant is that he started at least 10 games at five different positions — third base, all three outfield spots and first base. Consequently, he allows Kapler to fill in spots all over the LU.
Cubs really emptied the closet before the deadline.
Bryant, Baez, Kimbrel, Rizzo. They’ve got a boatload of prospects to chew on the next two years.
They could be tough in 2024.
Some dude at CBS Sports gives Farhan an A+ on the deal; and Cubs a C for not getting enough…
https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/kris-bryant-mlb-trade-deadline-grades-giants-make-flawless-deal-as-they-attempt-to-hold-on-in-wild-nl-west/
They dumped more then that 9 players in all including reliever Chafin who I wanted..
Nats to cleared out their roster as well with 8 players..
No surprise in my opinion . . . Z doesn’t get taken, e.g., see 2019 trade deadline moves. While he is playing 3 dimensional chess, everyone else seems to be playing checkers.
Sounds logical says Mr.Spock!
Blade you know he beat the computer in chess ♟ when the best he could accomplish is a draw.Oh but the computer was sabotaged, but I’m sure with his pointy ears that he enjoyed that and rubbing it in to Bones as well..
Wow that’s cold by Cleveland they already released Pablo Sandoval.
And I was going to use Guardian of the Buffet Tray, that’s out now, sigh, end of the line now, probably so..
Cubs:
1. Sent Bryant to Gyros in exchange for SF’s #9 and #30 ranked farmhands.
2. Sent Rizzo to Yanks in exchange for Yanks #6 and #9 ranked farmhands.
IMO Farhan got the clearly better player, for a versatile RH bat they needed, and paid less talent lost than did the Yanks to fill a need, but a lesser player …
Buster’s back!
1. Austin Slater (R) CF
2. Buster Posey (R) C
3. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
4. Darin Ruf (R) 1B
5. Wilmer Flores (R) 3B
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. Donovan Solano (R) 2B
8. Thairo Estrada (R) LF
9. Kevin Gausman (L) P
Put Bryant in LF or CF in that lineup, he bats 3 or 4, everybody moves one spot. That LU looks a helluva lot better.
Or, put him in for Slater. Bryant plays LF, Estrada to CF, and Estrada bats leadoff, everybody moves down a spot with Bryant in cleanup…
What no Bryant? Just kidding..
Tough week for Cubs fans. When the Cubs won it all in ’16 their fans really thought it was going to be a dynasty. It turns out that dynasties are very very difficult to achieve, and you have to catch some breaks too along the way.
And, so, that era of the Cubs is over. They likely won’t have another 108 year gap between championships, but they’re definitely in full rebuild mode now.
Is Bryant potentially the best right handed hitter we have had since Jeff Kent? How about Buster? Longoria was essentially kaput when we got him and my mind is drawing a blank about anyone else as good as Bryant.
Yeah, that Longoria contract is a bad one, but….in this final part of the season, Longoria has a chance to do a “Zito in ’12,” and make up for a lot.
Probably so Blade. I would put Kevin Mitchell up there too.Right out of the gate when they stole him along with Draveky and Lefferts, he was hitting bombs. Think his first game ironically was against the Cubs in Chicago and he blasted a HR.Immense power he had..
Whoops . . . I meant to put that comment here. Yes, Mitchell is right up there too AK.
Pence?
Good point AK.
You too Mac
I had totally forgotten that Trea Turner tested positive for Covid-19 a few days ago. He won’t be immediately appearing in the Dodgers’ lineup.
They get Seager back today. He’s been banged up for a big chunk of the season.
One thing I will say this was the Best Deadline Ever!
This is the only way to have a trade deadline, no waivers, no possible extensions.
It’s get your act together GM’s and make it happen in a final day of thrilling unprecedented moves! Do this setup every year!!!
Trades were moving so fast my head was spinning 😵💫 but atleast the Giants got a piece of the action and got the “Man” in Kris Bryant, that they desperately needed the most!!
Matt Duffy gets the start tonight for the rebuild-Cubs.
On Monday the Giants start a 4-game series in Arizona. The Giants hitters will be digging that.
I was in the “stand pat” camp, but I gotta admit it is going to fun watching Bryant play all over and give us hopefully a solid power bat.
But you’re kidding yourself if you think he is anything more than a rental and I think the trade has to be viewed through that lens. He’s not gonna spend a month here and sign a huge deal with free agency right around the corner. We have a 1 in 30 chance of signing him long term IMO.
Because Zaidi won’t pony up the big 5-year contract for him?
Yes, I don’t think he will offer that and I would expect Bryant to get some whopper offers from elsewhere.
Bryant supposed to be here in time for tomorrow game, according to Slusser per Zaidi.
The Giants will be in the perfect position to begin signing great players to rational long-term contracts as early as this winter. They have boatloads of money; some of the old vets will be gone. They’ll get a chance to evaluate Bryant down the stretch. They’ll know what he’s worth. He’ll know the team, the staff, the FO. Basis for negotiation right there.
Watson is a great addition to the pen. No downside, really, familiar, and a solid vet — something we well could use in that mix now.
Z and his people did a terrific job. The most expendable hotshot prospect, Bart, is still available for a trade to teams that don’t play in debilitating twilight conditions.
Can Doval step up now?
Has the recent 104.5 mph fastball reading been mentioned here? https://twitter.com/NBCSGiants/status/1420826893872336898?s=20
yeah, I retweeted the “prospects” bit on that. MiLB gun? At some field with 120 temp? A stoned tech? The beat writers laughed over it.
Was it a strike, a ball, are did he drill a batter? Which would have killed him..
Still if that’s true at 104.5 would that be some kind of record? Chapman’s up there somewhere?
Very good deal in my opinion. Slots all over the field, big Bonds fan, he’ll fit in nicely for this run.
Votto homers in 7th straight game.
The record is 8…
Training staff better teach Bryant how to keep loose at Oracle for both day an night games.
He’s used to the heat in Chitown and the Central division. Can’t have him pulling a quad or an oblique right off the bat here…
That will be Alyssa Nakken’s job Snarkk..
His traditional injury issue has been hamstrings.
“Bart, is still available for a trade to teams that don’t play in debilitating twilight conditions.”
Wow- you keep pounding that for some reason. Whatever.
The (then) productive dialectical back and forth you and I had over Bart’s 2020 defensive miscues, including the exquisitely argued “twilight made him do it” and “bullshit it wasn’t twilight” exchange, is old now. You have a valid point.
Brantley is tremendous hitter. Love to watch him. Has power and uses whole field.
Hey Flappers, I’m coming to town in a couple weeks. I’ll be out there Sat. 8/14 to Wed. 8/18 with a friend who’s a Mets fan, we’re going to Giants-Mets Mon-Tues 8/16-17, then we’re going to L.A. to see Mets-Dogpile Thurs. 8/19. I’m also hoping to get to the Giants-Rox game Sat. 8/14. We’ll also be doing some sightseeing, so any suggestions from you locals are more than welcome. And if anyone wants to meet up at one of the games, that would be awesome. Can’t wait, my first time at Oracle, and hopefully the Giants will still be in first when I get there.
on the off day, I’d recommend an early drive down highway one if you’ve never seen it.
I like that, though we may do a rental car for just one day.
You’re too humble.
You deserve a full-fledged Flap-a-Mac-a-looza…
Michael Brantley hitting .388 on the road.Wow..
He’s such a great player, one of my favorites , a true professional and clutch.
You can stay hot after you leave here though lol 😂
Yikes, Gauscan looking leaky again.
The lack of 95+ is killing Gausman.
not throwing strikes either. Not missing close enough to entice hitters to chase off speed.
We miss our old Gausman.
He’s afraid to throw a strike to these guys.
Maybe we should’ve traded for Ron Bryant…
Lulz before the swimming pool incident better.
Teams are spitting on his splits now cause he’s not getting it high enough before it breaks down. He’s been off since the A/S break and family issues
Geez 35 pitches and 1 out yikes. Can’t start a BP game this early hopefully not?
Miraculously only gave up 2 runs.
Gausman is definitely a tough guy. I wouldn’t bet against him pulling it all back together.
yeah great bounce back inning.
He never looks rattled…
Valdez was tough last year iirc.
Hoping Bryant’s flight has no Wi-Fi, TV, phones prohibited 🚫. Just eye shades allowed..
Uh, you’d think Giants batters would take a bit of time in their ABs to give Gausman a blow.
That was 3 up/down in 3 minutes.
Maybe Gausman needs a stint on the IL…
I might start watching the opposing team feed for the first inning just to keep from hearing Kruk say “Squat.”
Amen, brother!
The Sac River Cats have Covid-19 vaccinations available at their game tonight, which is very cool.
They were also vaccinating at the Dodger/Giant game I was at and giving ticket vouchers to participants.
Cool!
Fuck Ruf.
Gausman getting his mojo back after a rough 1st inning
Only 22 pitches last 2 innings now with 6 k’s as well..
Yeah Slater!
McGoo has number 17 he should without hesitation give that number to Bryant. Ok some negotiations but still it’s Freaking Bryant, no offense to Tito Fuentes but 23?
Felipe Alou…
Yeah Buster!
Buster Baby!! He’s says I don’t need no freaking concussion protocol!!
That was known as a “killer” in handball…
Yaz’s AB was also a killer.
Battled back to tie it up atleast. No quit in this team ever..
Seems like no lead is safe anymore in MLB.
They used to only say that about Fenway and Wrigley.
Now it’s everywhere…
So many batters (all of them, basically) swinging for the fences on every AB. Some are bound to connect at any given moment.
Gausman doesn’t know how to bunt. He doesn’t even understand the concept. Someone should work with him on that. Obviously the team has plenty of coaches.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that Altuve HR swing…
What was that pitch? A hanging split?
Bullshit call at 1st..
Not that it matters, but… great trade. I also think Bryant will stay, no rental. Would’ve liked possibly another starter, but maybe with Watson back, Long can be regroomed as a starter. Best possible thing about Bryant coming to SF is reducing the importance of “Longo’s coming back”…..
He’s from Las Vegas and attended San Diego U…
That’s USD, not to be confused with UCSD or SDSU.
Who, Bryant?
Where he was teammates with our boy Connor Joe!
Connor hit an HR against the Padres tonight.
Ooops.
Brain fart for Yaz. That kangaroo 🦘 court fine in the old days..
Gutsy all-out catch by Slater.
You fucking Ruf apologists disgust me
Dude has a .928 OPS.
