I’m sure you covered this but why did the Nats decide not to extend Turner? As a baseball fan. Nats are not LA or NY but not small market. They won WS not even 2 full seasons ago! A bummer for them, and for us now that he is in LA. They might have the deepest lineup in MLB history out side of the 27 yanks and mid 70s Reds
It would be fun for SF to meet LA in the post season and SF takes care of business, preferably in an epic NLCS.
Nothing like that, I think, since the ’62 post season playoff with LA…

Hey Flappers, I’m coming to town in a couple weeks. I’ll be out there Sat. 8/14 to Wed. 8/18 with a friend who’s a Mets fan, we’re going to Giants-Mets Mon-Tues 8/16-17, then we’re going to L.A. to see Mets-Dogpile Thurs. 8/19. I’m also hoping to get to the Giants-Rox game Sat. 8/14. We’ll also be doing some sightseeing, so any suggestions from you locals are more than welcome. And if anyone wants to meet up at one of the games, that would be awesome. Can’t wait, my first time at Oracle, and hopefully the Giants will still be in first when I get there.

The LU is going to be tough now 1-8, assuming LaStella can hit like he did with the A’s. The KB addition just punches up the LU a ton, and adds huge flexibility for LU changes, as KB can play 3 or 4 positions, and bats against all pitching, regardless of RHP or LHP…
There is a rule about what the team can say about any player’s medical condition–player has final say not the team. Don’t understand what anyone has vs. Giants medical staff–none of us have any hands on insight as to what type of medical or therapeutic activity goes on behind the scenes–it’s all pure 100% speculation with zero fact based evidence. In other words, fiction.
The idea a player would not want to play and is dogging it somehow and laughing all the way to the bank makes zero sense to me. It’s usually exact opposite–they want to play, hide stuff and compensate to cover up being hurt, which can make everything worse.
Willie – you were around when they misdiagnosed Noah Lowry with a forearm compartment issue and operated on it, then later, Dr. Andrews found that the real problem was thoracic outlet syndrome. I’ve had/have TOS, that’s a problem with nerve bundles in your neck, and the surgery is to remove your first rib, if rehab fails. (Ask Strasburg of Nats, he just had that surgery). That’s a long way from stripping tissue from your forearm, and misdiagnosis that bad is Crazy. He sued them. There’s been plenty of instances over the years where the Giants have said nothing or misdirected the fans via the beat on medical stuff. Remember when Franchez had shoulder surgery in the offseason and nobody knew about it for two months? I know about privacy rules, I get it, all the 3rd party HIPPA shit; that doesn’t translate for me to trust anything the Giants say about player injuries for public consumption. Some fans buy tix based on they expect a player to be back in future on a certain date, and the injury info figures in…
The Giants owe Longoria $25 mil btw this year and next. don’t you think they are making sure he gets the best care and treatment absolutely possible? And also they are well informed on daily basis as to his progress, atnot only Kapler and coaching staff level but all the way up to top of command at Zaidi and Harris?
How would any of us know what is going on is all I’m saying. so I’l trust the guys with medical and therapist degrees and the guys they report to.
I’m not sure Lowry actually sued the Giants or if he ever blamed the medical staff. I know his agent made misdiagnoses claims but I don’t recall a lawsuit or Lowry making that claim. Whatever, I’m pretty sure the Giants have had many different orthopedic surgeons on staff since 07/08, I know they’ve changed medical groups multiple times since then.
Lowry was a long time ago. These days, players immediately tell the staff about problems. We saw it dramatically, early on, when Cueto slashed his throat and left the mound. But it happens all the time. Wilmer’s back twinge after a swing the other day. Buster’s blast to the mask was probably protocol controlled, but it fits the pattern and his regular days off do too. This is a new approach. And it’s great. imo.

When you’re DFA’d, you basically get put on waivers; you can get picked up or not. If not, you go back to the team that DFA’d you, else you’re out of ball. There may be some nuance to that, but in general I think that’s it…

Yesterday I caught the tail in of their 12 inning 5 plus hours in extreme heat 🥵 loss to the Reno Aces in front of what I could see on my screen about 17 people left.I was cracking up when Snow and the other announcer were
panning in on a couple maintenance dudes with not a soul around in rows and rows of empty 1st base seats starting to cleanup with there garbage cans as the games still going on.It’s like why are they cleaning when nobody’s even sat in these seats all day?
If they were working w/garbage cans, they may have been actually involved in a clever sign stealing system…

My childhood household always had canned foods in the cupboard, but I don’t remember what brand of beef stew, which is weird, because I liked it. Campbell’s maybe? Some sports figure did TV commercials for Dinty Moore… Bart Starr? Seeing that, I convinced my Mom to buy Dinty Moore. She did.. it sucked. Some of those canned foods were fine, others just horrible and no better than dog food.
For the current, so completely fucked up lockdown we’re still in, I actually bought, by choice, a couple of *long lasting* canned foods. One of them looks like it’s Spam, but it’s called Celebrity Danish Pork Luncheon Meat, whose 2nd ingredient is “pork blood plasma”. As Denmark is my grandfatherland, I’ll trust it (if I ever even open the thing). The 2nd one is a Vietnamese product in a tunafish-like can, called Bo 2 Lat, which translates as 2 Slices of Beef. I have absolutely no idea what’s in that can, but I’m so f-ing bored, my curiosity will probably get the best of me at some point…

Up until now, the team could experiment with its SF-Sacto shuttle, especially as long as the team was winning and it almost didn’t seem to matter who came and who went. But it’s August, it’s serious now. Maybe this month we’ll still see some shuffling and shuttling, as they perhaps aim for a September stretch drive that’s more stable and setting up for the post season. But really would hate to see Wade and Thairo go down. I downright shudder to think of who must go once Longoria comes back. Honestly, I wish he never would come back, but that’s just me.
have you seen Thairo’s arm? He’s not bad but his timing is bad. Couple of high profile plays, he looked like he’s not ready to handle the speed of mlb runners. At least so far. But he’s obviously a good player. Wade should stay on the 26, I think, but he can move back and forth as necessary. It’s not dire. They have depth and they know how to use it. No more trades now.
