Find a Win
Tough loss but, besides Belt’s swing, we couldn’t come up with a big hit. We’ve got another tough pitcher today. Let’s see what they can do. On paper this is an L with the dreaded Sanchez starting. Susan Slusser was on KNBR yesterday, I really like her. She tells it like it is. She said Sanchez is not a team guy because he doesn’t want to work as a reliever and has told the SF staff he only wants to start. No place for that attitude on this squad. Good riddence.
On the negative side for Slusser, she refuses to vote for Bonds for the HOF, yet she voted for LaRussa, which seems hypocritical, in my opinion.
I would agree.Sanchez isn’t good enough to be a full time starter,he barely hits 90-91 and if he’s not consistently hitting corners he will get raked. He should be fortunate to even be on the team.Adios if he’s bitchin about be a starter, he’s not good enough. His only value is as a long reliever in a blowout to save the pen some..
Gentleman Aaron not one to pose.
Looks like he was just waiting to see if it was fair or foul…
SLusser is the one Bay Area scribe, outside of Baggs a little bit, who will speak some truth about the clubhouse. She’s a refreshing breath when you consider that hot dog stain Schulman who reported nothing in his entire career.
The Calif. Central Valley has a variety of people. It’s very diverse.

There are a lot of very fine libraries that get used a lot, for example, such as this one:
i take it you’re not a fan of the hilarious POTD?
That looks like CSM. Harvard on the Hill. SMIT.
Slusser changed her view on steroid era players a few years back and has been voting for Bonds lately, iirc. Coincidentally, her position shifted after she and her husband became friends with the great Roger Angell as they campaigned to get him into the writers’ HOF. (Slusser was pres. of the BWAHAHA at the time.) Angell said from day one that Bonds belonged in the HOF. Of course, he’s right.
by “enablers” she meant (back in 2016) Selig and LaRussa (explained in comments and in interviews)
I missed that; thanks.
Interesting that she’s changed her tune from being totally anti-Bonds, anti steroid.
Terlling that she says those who “I believe” cheated. So, the ones she voted for previously she “believed” did NOT cheat? God help the innocent accused if she’s on a jury.
Who are the enablers? LaRussa one of them? Certainly Selig…
as I said, Selig and LaRussa were the HOF enablers she id’d at the time. And she believed what she believed as an expert reviewing all available evidence at the time. Most of the voting writers aren’t really experts; she always has been. And she’s smart enough to continue to improve, constantly.
“i take it you’re not a fan of the hilarious POTD?”
No, not particularly. 🙂
I just drove up the 5 on Weds. I always have to remind myself to be compassionate . . . to hate the almond growers, not the almonds.
I grew up in the Central Valley.
I don’t get the humor.
Without the Central Valley, we basically don’t eat.
I used to be involved in valuing farming operations and related businesses — the water situation is dire right now for many farmers,
and that’s not good for anybody. If your comment is about almond orchard water use, it’s true that nut and fruit orchards use a lot. That’s why some growers are pulling out almonds now, and some doing that not long after they planted acreage to them. You can blame some for being greedy or not prescient, but the fact remains it costs a ton to pull out acreage that’s got a lot of sunk costs and just let it sit, or use it for seasonal field crops, which still use some water, but are less profitable…
I worked with rednecks and other working-class people for fifteen years after college. Generalized suburbanite insults aimed at rednecks often annoy me. I know a lot of exceptions to their “rule.” (If the gathering’s liquored up, you know deliverance jokes are coming, as it were.) I suppose almond growers may be easier to generalize about, but . . . ???
Once Newsom is recalled, undoubtedly the water crisis will be resolved.
I grew up with high school dropout parents who shared key values with many a Buck Owens fan. Why, some of my best friends . . . .
your parents were dropouts? hippies but Buck Owens fans? Bitchin.
bummer……
Writing was on the wall and they need arms, but it’s still a little jarring to see…
Can Duggar be claimed?
Not if he’s optioned…
Dog days coming.
Need arms, not an inconsistent bat for 3 weeks coming, now that KB is here who can play multiple OF positions.
He’ll probably be back Sept 1…
Well, no complaints here.
The Grave Duggar had every chance.
Contributed plenty despite the ups and downs…
He’ll probably return by September, if not sooner.
Missed Snarkk’s prior comment.
I’ve had it with all the red neck mullet heads. They singlehandedly fucking us on this virus, they buy into the dumbest conspiracy theories out there, they voted for that lunatic, I’m sure there are exceptions. I’m talking about most of them.
1. LaMonte Wade Jr (L) RF
2. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
5. Kris Bryant (R) 3B
6. Mike Yastrzemski (L) CF
7. Alex Dickerson (L) LF
8. Tommy La Stella (L) 2B
9. Aaron Sanchez (R) P
“Dinosaur Victrola, listenin’ to Buck Owens”
How much of the central valley is mom-n-pop farming? 0.5%? It’s got to be in the neighborhood of 85-90% con-agra-big-biz exploiting the migrant labor force and getting subsidies to not grow shit.
I remember Bill Maher talking to Johnny Mellon Cougarcamp about the heartland and the people who vote against their interests repeatedly. And this was before facebook but well into the internet. Around Obama’s election. Maher’s point was, these people aren’t stupid, but why do they consistently vote for people that aren’t helping them? Over and over and over. Think Kentucky.
Cougarcamp said, well, these folks simply believe what they hear. If their local politician says that all the schools in their district will become mosques if Obama is elected, dog will sleep with cats, anarchy! they simply buy it all. Maher said gullibility is ridiculous in the age of information. Fast forward to now, and it is on the multitude of 100x worse since facts now alternate depending on your reality.
95 percent of California’s 77,400 farms are family-owned. Non-family corporations make up just 1.3 percent of farms in California. The remainder, 3.6 percent, are operated as cooperatives, estates, trusts, institutions, etc.
Source: CA Dept of Agriculture
https://plantingseedsblog.cdfa.ca.gov/wordpress/?p=10909
Average size of CA family farm: 348 acres
https://www.dailydemocrat.com/2019/04/18/agricultural-census-provides-snapshot-of-california-farms/
There have been large acreage corporate (non-family) owned farmsteads particularly in the Westlands water district and down in the southern San Joaquin.
I did a lot of estate related valuation of family farms and packing operations back in the 2000s. A lot of the family farmers are land rich and cash poor. Land value is highly dependent on dependability of water sources…
If you haven’t seen this, it is a treat,
(somewhere in El Cerrito)
I lived on the hill in El Cerrito for a while when I first started working in downtown SF. Used to walk by El Cerrito HS to and from BART and I’d marvel at how CCR started there. The place does have a great view of the Bay, SF, three bridges and the sunset.
I lived in El Cerrito a few years, too, in the early ’80s.
In the flats not far from the BART station.
Not a lot there, but it was OK.
Luv CCR from way back in the ’60s when I was a kid listening to am radio.
Saw Fogerty in a Houston tour stop in the latter ’90s. Great show.
Check out his CD “Blue Moon Swamp”, done in the late ’90s.
Tasty tunes.
Really harkens back to the original CCR vibe in the ’60s…
CCR was an amazing band with plenty of great songs!
Stuck in Lodi again just fantastic,( one of my favorites songs by the band) but it does make you think back then it was written for a down an out musician just trying to hang on when the greyhound bus ended up in a Central Valley town called Lodi( low die back then) still it made people curious about this small town back then..
Obviously not like that now, Lodi is really booming with top notch wineries, dining, golf, accommodations. It’s worth checking out..
And Club Mallard is still around!!
well, not really. Back in the 80s, when I was working on the RR and living in Berkeley, the UC Berkeley family graduate student housing close by the Mallard kept the Mallard humming — small teams of single mothers with babysitters loved to slum there. Then it became a Tiki bar, didn’t it?
Shit i just looked it up and saw it was still around. I haven’t been there since the late 80s!!!
Might as well keep reminiscing about whatever the heck you guys are talking about.
This game has the look of a blowout in the making…
Sanchez looks like a rare blunder for Zman….
He was a blunder for his parents…
Big opportunity blown…
Yaz is in a big time, long time funk.
Another wasted bags full, 1 out situation…
Fuck sucks when you do t even out the ball in play
The usual outcome when you piss away an opportunity
So fucking easy for some teams
Brewers get a guy on third, sac fly almost immediate, no problem…
Jeeebus
Can’t believe that wall is fucking concrete.
That Hal McRae guy who ran through the wall in that minor league game would have died if he hit that wall
Kool and the Gang?
Lastellas walk up is jungle boogie?
why would LaStella have a walk up in Milwakee
The camera lingering on that luxurious mane.
Slusser tweets that the Gausmans welcomed their newborn daughter to the world today
Yaz is a rally-killer lately.
Wrigley Field is by the most dangerous ballpark in baseball for ball players. The whole freaking place is brick 🧱, oh yeah the green ivy gives ZERO help compared to some padding most parks have..
Ball 4
Goddamnit. Yaz and Dick have left 9 guys on base by themselves
Horse shit swing by Cheese Dick!
Dick is almost in Tauchman territory.
Yaz needs a day off.
Dick needs a bus ride.
Yaz and Dick are a double-team force in rally-killing.
Love those Sausage Races! Italian Chef over Chorizo by a wiener at the finish line..
Brewers have it going right with those and “Weekend at Bernies” beer sliding dude!!
Damm Wade missed that foul pole by a foot are 2..
It really is good to see Watson back.
Nice move by Kapler bring in Watson once Yelich was announced.2 lefties and a a right handed hitter,no problem 😉
Time to do this with the heart of the order up!
Looks like another dominant pitching loss for us. Lost by a one-armed goof home run and an excuse me triple.
Yaz yet again nothing.
Smoked it tho. Ruf to the rescue
Send Bryant
So much for protecting the plate
Holy shit!!!!!!
I don’t believe what I just saw!!!
Tie game!
When did Mac Williamson join the Brewers?
What a fucking gift!!!
Tie ball game wow!!
The pop up dance on the warning track!!
Well that sorta makes up for the pseudo-HR.
this team is much better with Bryant and La Stella in the LU. Bryant is obviously the best super utility guy in mlb; LaStella is one tough SOB who seems to think he can do anything he’s called upon to do. He’s lucky, too.
i missed how we got here, sounds like a gift. Just turning game on now
I wasn’t expecting LaStella to even bat. But wtf Kapler never seizes to amaze me with a knee jerk hunch….
Great base running by Wade
Why the fuck didn’t Estrada go?
I’m loving Wade at the plate.
Wow. Seeing eye single!!!
Friggin Posey.
Great AB, clutch/..
thank God for infields in….lol
Sweet, two in
Clutch!! In field end ball has eyes 👀 to get thru for Buster!
Buster delivers!
How did he lay off the 2-2?
Singled on the same pitch at 3-2…
I won’t say “Too close to …”
It doesn’t seem real that they’re winning this game….
Buster in the HOF? well, we’ll need to take a look at it this winter, evaluate. But right now, this moment? Oh, hell yeah!
Beautiful swing of the bat by Crawford for the sac fly ..
Be still my heart. A sac fly!!!
Think they’re Right Fielder is thinking about that “Wanna get away ad” right now ?
Fan psychology: probably over half of the Flap is relieved that Rogers won’t be pitching the bottom of this inning. Fascinating.
Rogers is not an easy watch.
Where was the balk? They never showed a replay.
Paging Mr Magoo .
wtf didn’t Kapler put Rogers out there again?
He wanted to spare us.
You go for the juggler vein they had 2nd and 3rd why would you want to see an automatic out in Rodgers?
Because we had already used most of our pitchers
7 pitches
I’m not fascinated now.
