A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Shocking Win

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 8, 2021

Belt keeps hitting. Cousin Flavor keeps surprising. His arm might fall off but until it does I shall enjoy the ride…

Sunday’s are for Johnny Cueto….

Bobby Bowden and Markie Post died. Markie and I had growing up in Palo ALto and then going to Lewis and Clark in common. Plus, I loved the show Night Court. San Dawg always said my dad sounded like Bobby Bowden.

Night Court was a sneaky good show. Other NBC shows, like Cheers, got more attention, but Night Court was among its best, tucked into that very strong NBC Thursday night lineup.

Loved Night Court. That stinks. Morning games are always fun. Hope we see Good Johnny C today. Can’t get out of Wisconsin fast enough.

A blistering punk rock version of the song before punk rock existed.

Loved Chuck Berry’s comment at the time. “He played the hell out of it.” So jealous my sisters got to see Hendrix, the Doors, the Beatles, Janis. I did see Chuck Berry at the Circle Star Theater. Fun show.

I get about 5 morning games a week if you know what I mean…

Ah, I get it now. 🙂

The US Olympic team won a blizzard of medals in the last few days.
The men’s basketball team took the gold. I read a thing that said this probably makes Green a slam dunk for the Hall of Fame. Interesting take.
The basketball HOF is different than the baseball one. The basketball HOF takes a more wholistic view of the person’s life in the sport, whereas the baseball HOF just focuses on MLB stats.

    • zumiee said, on August 8, 2021 at 8:17 am

The one area where the baseball HOF expanded was when it started including Negro Leagues stars.

They’ve also begun construction on the Bowker Gang wing…

      • zumiee said, on August 8, 2021 at 8:27 am

The Bowker Gang will always have a special place in our hearts.

      • alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2021 at 8:38 am

They could also work on a Tauchman’s Misfits wing!
Players who pose as baseball players but clearly just imposters..

  4. zumiee said, on August 8, 2021 at 8:25 am

The US women’s basketball team won the gold, but it won’t get as much attention. They’re so dominant on the world stage that it lacks drama.

Sad to hear the passing of Markie Post seems so young at 70,but the clock is ticking on all of us the day we were born.Night Court was a terrific show full of one liners with an excellent cast. She also had a role as a Bondsman in Fall Guy and played Cameron Diaz’s mother in Something about Mary along with numerous tv appearances. RIP Markie

    • zumiee said, on August 8, 2021 at 10:10 am

Yeah, I’m not sold on La Stella yet. But La Stella has a two-year contract.

      • alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2021 at 10:27 am

And unfortunately that’s the bottom line. Z still wants to look good on his players he picked up( Tauchman not withstanding) Vet over Options win every time..
Guess there going to roll the dice with Solano being the backup SS for now..

If it came down to those 2, then I understand that. Obviously Thairo impressed and will be a part of things moving forward.

Brebbia back up (!?), Sanchez DFA.

  9. zumiee said, on August 8, 2021 at 10:20 am

    OPS
    La Stella .646
    Estrada .824

  10. alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2021 at 10:21 am

Looks like they sent Sanchez out but brought back Brebbia Aisle. Wouldn’t call that an upgrade. They still had Doval,Castro,Barager to choose from etc..

    • Winder said, on August 8, 2021 at 10:41 am

I think this Giants org. like to give enough rope before making permanent decisions.

    • snarkk said, on August 8, 2021 at 12:19 pm

Doval won’t be coming up until he throws a pitch within the same zip code as home plate…

  11. zumiee said, on August 8, 2021 at 10:26 am

Longoria coming back presents another difficult roster decision. I think Dick stays, and Slater or Wade goes. Wade has been so valuable it would be tough to see him sent out until Sept. But it may be so.
Dick hasn’t really earned his spot this season, but the team brass is hopeful he’ll catch fire.

  12. alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2021 at 10:38 am

Can’t be Wade, he’s been outstanding with clutch hits. They realized how stupid it was sending him down last time, he’s here to stay now!
They just can’t get over the fact that Dick is not valuable anymore. So it might be Slater but then the outfield D suffers bigtime..I don’t know how he does it cause he’s not very big, but Slater has all of the longest HR’s on the team.

Flava Flav, You piquied my interest in Markie Post comment. Here’s from Wikipedia:
    Personal life
Post was married first to Stephen Knox, whom she met at Lewis & Clark College

Stephen Knox – Jake Knox. Is there a connection?

  18. snarkk said, on August 8, 2021 at 12:26 pm

I wonder if the Gyros management figure they got one from the Brewers, and that’s good enough.
Re: Estrada, he’ll be back. Dickerson has a major league deal, he hits the occasional HR, but I think this is his last season as a Giant. Defense is below average in LF, often hurt, way too streaky. If a hot rope goes into the LF corner, it seems like forever while he’s in there reading the bounce, digging it out or bobbling it…

  19. snarkk said, on August 8, 2021 at 12:45 pm

    Shocking, a sac fly !
    Craw comes through…

    Not feeling this one.

    • alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2021 at 12:58 pm

Didn’t feel last nights game as well until the Brewers Right fielder butchered LaStella game should of been over play.So I’m not counting them out!
Well f—k that wild pitch is not going to help!

  23. alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2021 at 12:52 pm

Just cause Dick has a major league deal doesn’t mean u have to keep him. He’s easily the lowest outfielder on the totem pole with his defense, a total liability..

    • snarkk said, on August 8, 2021 at 1:00 pm

I agree you don’t have to keep him, but if a guy signed a MLB deal, it’s a bigger thing to release him. I have no problem seeing him go, he’s not been much of a help all season except for the occasional HR. That’s not enough with an extended lineup. Too many Ks, can’t do much on defense, bad option for PH due to Ks…

      • alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2021 at 1:13 pm

Yeah it won’t happen, I guess I’m just dreaming about adding Ramos &Davis for more firepower and speed with the defense as well..

  24. alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2021 at 12:54 pm

Bases loaded no outs and u can only muster a sacrifice fly 🪰 real sad 😞

    Wow. Littel in the 9th.

  46. snarkk said, on August 8, 2021 at 1:56 pm

I’m finally giving in to the reality that the Giants have to score pretty much via HRs. The conga line of hits is not going to happen a lot. Supposedly, a few weeks ago, I heard on radio that they were at 53% of their runs via HRs. Which, I thought sounded very low. It seems higher than that…

  47. unca_chuck said, on August 8, 2021 at 1:57 pm

  58. pawliekokonuts said, on August 8, 2021 at 2:07 pm

Not to sully a shiny afternoon, but I just can’t fathom DFAing Aaron Sanchez. It’s inscrutable, almost as mysterious as sending down Caleb Baragar, twice, with a microscopic ERA. He just started yesterday, and did all that was asked of him. Was Sanchez fooling around with Kapler’s wife? C’mon!

    • snarkk said, on August 8, 2021 at 2:17 pm

There must be more to it than that.
Like Unca says below, there are reports he refused to take a Pen position, wanted to be a starter only.
Plus, what happened to his 95+ mph fastball that he supposedly had in his show and tell before signing?
If he clears waivers, he’s back in Sack…

  59. unca_chuck said, on August 8, 2021 at 2:10 pm

He has said he wouldn’t come out of the pen. He wants to start. He lasted 2 innings. And we have enough starters. Ergo, he can start in Sacto.

    • pawliekokonuts said, on August 8, 2021 at 2:12 pm

Thanks for the back story. Wasn’t he creditable as an SP?

  60. unca_chuck said, on August 8, 2021 at 2:13 pm

14-9 since the All Star break isn’t earthshaking, but when you see we had the Cards, Astro, Dodgers, and Brew Crew in that mix, it’s a pretty strong statement to the league that this team is for real.

    • snarkk said, on August 8, 2021 at 2:19 pm

Radio just mentioned that Gyros went 9-4 in the recent stretch v. LA, Stros, and Brewers.
      Pretty damn good…

  62. alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2021 at 2:17 pm

PK.. Aaron Sanchez barely ticks 90, he’s very hittable, they have better arms then his to use in the Organization.
Besides he still believes he should be a starter, the Giants don’t see that, and I agree.Hook on with the D-backs are some other bottom feeder to finish off your season..

    • snarkk said, on August 8, 2021 at 2:23 pm
