Failing At The Worst Possible Time
Cueto getting destroyed and JosieQ swooping in to plug the dam is really the exclamation point on this terrible rut we’re in right now. September 1st and still in first place but it doesn’t feel like it. Our starting pitching is in shambles. Long season, stretches like this are inevitable. Still, bad time for it….
I think we all knew going in that the first two games against their top pitchers would be tough. I was hopeful of a split going into this series. That would be huge and would guarantee us first place going into the series against the bums.
We need Gausman to step-up and pitch a gem tonight, and our offense definitely needs to get back on track.
i’m not too worried about the offense. Our problem is our SP. Every pitcher besides Webb is unreliable right now. I expect Gaus to get rocked tonight at worst, be underwhelming at best. The league has caught on to his splitter and they are just letting it pass by. He needs to adjust.
Agree, Flav. SP is the number one concern right now. But you have to score more than a run or two to win games against top teams like the Brewers, bums, etc.
Só who’s going to stop the bleeding right now?
Wood was the guy that use to do that but he’s out with Covid, Cueto looks done with Montezuma’s revenge,Disco ain’t dancing 🕺 on one decent ankle and been ineffective along with Gausman still trying to find his Krukow’s stupid line “Arm Slot” which leaves us with are only reliable ace going in Logan Webb who inexplicably is not even lined up to face the Bums which is ridiculous..
Guess now they can try their new shiny toy Qtips Quintana against the Bums on Sunday unless they use him again but the way the Bums get pitches out of like the Giants I wonder how effective he could be with his bouts of wildness? But whatever they don’t have many good options I assume..
And not a good time if there ever is for the bats to go cold.Posey is really struggling along with Crawford ( stuck on 19 bombs forever)both can use a blow, but they can’t afford to keep them out of the LU.They really need a knock on wood a healthy Longo for the stretch to play 3rd have Bryant in CF , (yes he likes it there, he’s mentioned it on postgame shows) Wade in LF and Yaz in RF with Dickless shipped to Siberia.I would prefer they make Bart one of the 2 roster moves so he could start over Casali ,the other spot? up for grabs,GD,Davis,Doval,Doobie?,Ramos? doubtful…
I do not see Bart as being one of the call-ups. I think he is better served to continue playing every day in Sac. Just my opinion…not sure he would add that much down the stretch. Casali has done a decent job and the pitchers have established dialogue with them. I think we need arms…
Playing from behind hasn’t been a problem but it will bite you in the ass eventually. And Guasman is the king od the weird first couple innings.
Longo is the missing piece. His absence forces Kap to play tiny dick in LF. He was atrocious these last few games. Longo didn’t go on the IR of course but has been out since Aug 18th.
Broken record time.
Grave digger needs to be one of the callups. I can’t take Gramps Limp Dick in LF anymore…
Agree. Definitely him, JD, or pitchers over Bart.
Or JD.
On MLBTR is story where Dodgers acquire reliever from Twins in exchange for AA C Stevie Berman. I know him–he played on 7th grade b-ball team I coached that won league championship over Aaron Gordon, in OT at home gym of Mr. Gordon. We won league, went undefeated and Mr. Berman was big part of that.
Great kid, big personality and fun loving, helluva player too; his Mom kept scorebook for us, wonderful lady and met Dad too nice family. saw him play HS ball for Saratoga HS. Baseball always first love I guess, and played for Santa Clara before signing with Dodgers that drafted him.
I had a great middle school team, really deep, good kids from good families, and fantastic assistant. who helped run practices and with game management. It was lot of fun. Team we beat was good too and very well coached. I think they returned favor in 8th grade and Mr. Gordon has had fine career.
As others said, interesting to see what moves Giants make today. They faced 2 good pitchers, hit couple more bombs last night, and will face Urias and Buehler this weekend after Brewers, very tough match up, leave town.
Oh and some CY young winner name Max Scherzer on Sunday no big deal..
Scherzer goes tonight Kat–they won’t see him. Still, more tough matchups to come this week.
I dont think it is any coincidence that the moment Gausman lost his touch on the splitter is right when they started cracking down on foreign substances….will be interesting to see how this plays out with him as a free agent and will the Giants be all or partially in…
mm don’t think drop in Gausman effectiveness has much to do with spin rate. He has lost some control over split as he admits but velo on it I don’t think factors in to how well it does. Fastball still hitting 97 too. Imo think problems are more to do with command of pitches than anything.
Hey our boys from San Jose St are at USC this week. They lit up chump FCS team last week in meaningless tuneup, now big real test, for QB who can be rattled pass protection coaching staff yada yada. Noticed on roster they have lot of recruits from local WCAL private schools and some skill players from DeLaSalle too.
And, I will mention this only once, are the Defending Mountain West Champions.
Absolutely no correlation (spin rate and his ineffectiveness). Read where the Giants have noted some delivery/mechanical issues and they are working to correct that.
There’s no SP in AAA worth a callup, so I’m guessing they will just add Estrada and another BP arm maybe Doval. Probably give Qtips a start against the Bums and pray 🙏
I’d have to double check, but I don’t think the Giants even have any AAA or AA SPs on their 40 man roster.
They do not. They’re all RPs…
Posey is something like 7 for his last 47 with a ton of Ks, and all the radio commentators, including Kruk this am, are saying he’s not right.
Whatever this knee thing is, it must be worse than advertised. If Posey continues to be a wet noodle at the plate for all September, kiss the division good bye, even if they somehow shore up the rotation…
I would bring up Bart today…
And of course the Grave Duggar…
Bart story is bound to be interesting; hard to envision how FO values him. Would he give extra day of rest to Posey, and what they would get out of that, open to question.
Taking a look at what Giants Cs have done lately, while Posey has been struggling, he did have 2 run bomb as recently as Friday night. Before that he went 1-3 game week ago when SF spanked Mets 8-0.
Casali in last 3 games is 0-8, Tromp got one AB on road trip and was 0-1. Due to start tonight if 2/1 rest pattern holds.
Bart was on IL recently himself. Have to check Sac box scores and they did have games cancelled due to air.
All teams willing to sacrifice offense for D at C, and CF. No idea how Giants perceive Bart’s ability as C (or how it’s improved over last season) compared to Casali, or how they would feel inserting him into pennant race to work with SPs.
IMO Bart coming up for a stretch drive and playing any role is a non-starter barring dire injury situation to the C position on the 28-man expanded roster. I think they’d bring up Tromp, because they probably think he’s better defensively, before Bart…
Bart is 2-6 in their last seven games. For the year he is hitting: .311, .374, .894 with 10 bombs and 42 RBIs in 206 AB.
thanks. Neither he nor Duggar played last night for Sac. Ramos was in CF 1-5 with HR, Tromp caught.
desperate times when you’re longing for Longo and Joey B. There’s no limit to option use in Sept, right? The roster resets should continue. Doval, I hope, will see some pen time; Barragar may. And we’re probably not done with Brebbia. Thairo’s a good player. But with both Solano and Longo getting ready, where’s the room? The towncars should be racing up and down highway 80 all month long, fires permitting.
Longoria was given a cortisone shot on August 30th as is suppose to take batting practice today. So I’m guessing he will be activated for the Bums series starting Friday.
LonGodot…
Good one, Snarkk.
“That’s how it is on this bitch of an earth.”
Granted the Giants are leading or close to leading the league in HR’s, but they seem to struggle with RISP. Are they up at bat just trying for the long ball? Or what
Yes, they’re up there swinging for the fences about 99% of the time. I did see Yaz a few games ago shorten his swing with two strikes and poke a single to left-center. That was something different.
Has anyone read this, mlbtr, 08/28 Kevin Gausman has had hip discomfort since an incident way back on April 24, per John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle. He tweaked it during a play at first base last
Old news…catch up Kevin…
Ha ha yeah, l missed this way, way back.
Kevin – Giants are first in HRs. And they are 9th in MLB with RISP. They have the best fucking record in baseball. WTF do ya want (rhetorical question – no answer needed).
Tired of him. Time to cut bait and ride the rest of the season sans Cueto. Dude can’t stay healthy
I didn’t know Brebbia left. Who the fuck can keep track of all this shit?
Kruk was raving about him turning things around during his most recent minor league stint.
Maybe the end of Cueto – again who knows?
So much for Bart & GD for now anyway…
lulz. I knew it. But check the players’ parking lot — there’ll be towncars waiting to return to Sac town.

Only good thing about all this. Lol man fuck LA
And his legal bills will hit 8 digits lol. I can see him back with the Reds after a potential suspension. Having a father from that part of Ohio and those redneck Reds fans were fine with Marge Schott and Pete Rose and they will totally take back this maniac…
I don’t think my Lexington lawyer friend and lifelong Reds fan feels that way.
Fuck Bauer and the bums.
This article on Bauer did not mention any morals/personal conduct clause impact on the situation. The standard MLB contract has one. Doghairs may use that to reduce the $ pain, unlikely they’ll be able to void the deal altogether, given some past cases …
1. Darin Ruf (R) LF
2. Kris Bryant (R) RF
3. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Wilmer Flores (R) 3B
6. B. Crawford (L) SS
7. Austin Slater (R) CF
8. Thairo Estrada (R) 2B
9. Kevin Gausman (L) P
Let’s get a fucking W!
Not exactly Maury Wills leading off, but it’s not exactly 1965 either…

4. Buster Posey (R) C

Is this the softball lineup???
I predict at least one 5-4-3 triple play…
Shea said Solano is feeling better, Wood is not. Solano in 7th day of 10 day covid quarantine, still in NY.
Yeah, 3 man rotation. Kapler said he’s fine with it/pen can handle it. We’ll see.
makes sense, under these circs. Kapler also said, according to Baggs, that he hasn’t “discussed” Wood’s vax status with him. When you get an answer like that from a witness you go for the throat.
99% of vaxxed people show no to minor symptoms. 80% of unvaxxed show bad symptoms.
Wille-D….caught your note about our Spartans…I think I am going to take the current +14.5!!! Now in regard to Gausman I dont think he may have been using some extra stuff for spin rate but what I have read is that these substances help momentarily stick longer to the tips of the pitcher’s finger. I am no mechanical expert but I would think that extra little momentary departure of fingertips may give a splitter a little something extra….is it a coincidence that his numbers and effectiveness have not been the same for the last two plus months???
mm good luck! SC is favored to win south division of conference and have the QB Slovis back. Watched the SJS game for a half, and at one point the QB threw a pick 6 lazy pass out in flat. The running game looked good but opponent was awful in pass coverage. do have Derrick Deese Jr. back at TE. Kairee Robinson from DLS starts at running back. they also have D player of year back too, Cade Hall son of Rhett.
Pavs had column in nbc site today on Gausman. while July was awful August was much improved, with fewer walks etc. I mean he was in deGrom territory earlier, probably unsustainable. Last outing wasn’t bad either once he got settled in. Gonna need the good gaus, obviously.
Why the fuck does the crowd have to be silent during a tennis match?
Not sure this is the reason why, but it probably helps the players to hear the ball being hit by the opponent. Aside from that, it’s just a nice courtesy. Do we really need a frantic crowd noise at every sports event? And it makes much more of an impact when the crowd roars, especially at the US Open, after relative silence at the end of a point than it would be if they were yelling and screaming non-stop.
the upper-class sports of golf and tennis got no room for rowdy rabble
If Wood was/is a vaxx refusenik, then to hell with him…
Well, I am definitely pro-vax, but regardless, we need Wood. There is no one else to take his spot.
Over/Under on Gauze pitches in 1st inning: 18.5
Gasman!!
DJ, do you remember World Team Tennis? They encouraged yelling by the fans.. It was awesome. Saw Ille Nastase, Jimmy Connors and a ton of guys.. Great fun..
You’re right, Chuck.
In NY, we had the Mets, the Jets, the Nets and then the Sets in Tennis.
That summer NYC OTB gave out “NY Bets” t-shirts if you opened a telephone account…
Nothing like striking out the side for Gausman to build your confidence level up.Guess the mechanic arm slot is fine tuned in..
Is that Brett Anderson? Seriously?
Kruk dumping on Belt yet again.
Cue up Allman Brothers Whipping Post just for Belt, with Krukow lead vocal 🎤
He should have bunted. Posey gonna get shit for sucking?
Posey is 6 for his last 48.
He has to be hurt. Tired? He’s appeared in 88 of 132 games = 2 / 3 of the games…
Just to be clear, I have been thinking about the chatter of “oh, the Dodgers are going to overrun us.” Fuck that. We’ve had previous injuries and trials and tribulations, and have held onto 1st place for over a month.
No reason we cannot carry that shit forward. (My inner Pollyanna shining through.)
Way more than a month, Chi…
Wow. May 31st to be exact..
Damm Right Chi I’m on Board all the way and Fuck LÁ!!!
This game will determine a lot in keeping 1st. Gasman has to right the ship.
Uh oh
Oh bboy.. I[v got a bad feeling abbout this.
Gotta stop the bleeding here….
And the bats must get going tonight. Gotta score some damned runs!
They are laying off the slider.
Huge play at the plate!
Splitter. Nice play by Gaus. Got to get this out.
Yeah that was 1st rate by Gausman on that play at home..
Fuck this shit! Time to score some fucking runs!
Not drawing well at home.
Is the weekend gonna sell out?
It should be packed for the Bums, weekends is much bigger draws then weekdays and especially night game weekdays.
Prolly not.
Why is that? COVID?
Yep
Loved George Carlin’s bit about the silliness of silence during putting in golf, while doctors performing brain surgery just yak away…
The worst scenario.. Runners on, no outs. Prove me wrong,
You’re jinxing us Charlie. 😂
Your proven right!😩😥🤯
this is getting really old watching these guys fail over and over with runners on base.
Pretty Sad though a pitchers arm is on fire practically a broken shoulder blade and he can still get 3 outs in a row to snuff out the rally..
Giants are phuckin’ pathetic with RISP without an HR…
Wow, Buster! I know we all knew Yellich was running, but he’s really fast. That throw was perfect. Buster’s health may be compromised right now, yet he’s still the best.
Kayak rentals just skyrocketed…
i’ve seen some crazy videos on twitter in the last hour. What’s happening on your street, Loo?
On and off downpours, nothing too crazy.
No tornados that I know about.
Mac probably worse off…
Giants score a lot of runs, period. 4th best in NL at runs per game and 2 of teams ahead of them Reds and Braves play in extremely favorable hitters yards. They also have top slugging pct in NL. So a lot of what they are doing at plate, works.
Maybe not so much lately but solid over 130 games so far.
Great point. One I tried to make but you did so much more effectively.
It’s been a great run. Now I think the September stats are the only stats that matter.
True. I mean basically we mad the bums have the same record. Time to put up or shut up.
I didn’t know that Yellich’s arm is so weak. Now Belt may give the kayakers something to splash about.
This day in stupid:
“Washington Nationals Vice President Bob Boone has informed the club he’s resigning rather than comply with the organization’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate, a person with knowledge of the situation said.”
Same old story.
Same old song and dance.
By yourself a cooler, lay yourself low,
Have a great season, with nothing to show….
Lqtm.
Chuck and DJLoo..Team tennis is still around. My friend worked for the Newport beach team until Covid. Now all matches in Indian wells
I bought tickets for sat game in SF. 1st game in a long while. I’d be more excited if we were playing better!
We’re we the Golden Gaters?
I went to some kind of team tennis match in the early 90s in Princeton. Martina was on the home team, trying to get the crowd going. It felt weird to me.
Xoot, yes, like golf, tennis is considered an elitist sport, but it shouldn’t be. After laying out $$ for a racket, the only other cost is a can of balls since just about any place in the country has public courts that can be used for free. That’s not the case with golf. When I was in SF, it was nice to see people playing tennis at a couple of the parks we visited.
tennis is more accessible than golf; less real estate investment. But it’s still elitist when it counts. The country club folks get the best training. And the requisite spectator deportment at the upper levels says, hey, you lowly mooks, look how very sure we are.
It’s like were in a 2018-19 time warp. 3 runs in last 4 games!
Jesus. This guy ate Boog Powell.
Yeah no shit Unca, you definitely want him first out of the dugout in a brawl..
time to let out some
So dickerson hit a double over Yelich’s head that hit bottom of the wall.
Bryant hammers a double that bounces all the way to CF wall.
Not complaining about singles, with runners on or not. It’s how they score runs, with slugging.
Singles work too!
What a fucking SMASH by Posey!
Buster with the excuse me single.
One more!
Laying out some Shaft now as Buster’s weak ass Shaft hit tied it up!
Scored twice with RISP how about that Mel Allen!
64 mph exit speed on that roller
Fuck me.
TFLR 2
Bryant, no prob turning two.
