Hitting On Your Picks
The Bailey pick after they drafted Bart is irritating….unless one of them pops. If neither does, yeah, that sucks. Drafts are hard in every sport. The Niners have been absolutely terrible at it. Of course the Raiders just waived BOTH of their first round picks from last year. The Rams have caught crap for trading all their picks but look where they are now? Stafford, as I said he would be when he was freed from Detroit, has been a fantastic pick up. And they are Super Bowl contenders. If they win, who cares if they have any picks or not? A trophy buys a lot of rope from a fan base.
They haven’t won shit yet, but they are going in the right direction. Goff was a huge mistake and they fixed it.
Trey Lance? Who knows? Our issue now is coaching. I don’t want Shanny coaching Lance. Like his dad ruined RG III, Lance needs better coaching.
it’s not just coaching. Their personnel decisions are awful.
They have enough good players.
Hindsight is all well and good. Moore, Hufanga, and Mitchell are all starting and doing fine. The top of the draft? Not so much. We were supposed to be good enough to not have to lean on this one draft to get better.
Point being, the team has a ton of talent. Banks not starting is bad, and so is Thomas not being out there. But that’s where they are. There are a ton of teams in the same boat. The NFL is all about attrition. Sermon? Who knows? Their evaluation of drafts is all over the place, but it isn’t like this team isn’t stacked with good players at most positions.
I’ve been screaming for 6-12 years to draft a CB in the top of the draft. They haven’t. They should have gone after a center instead of going for Alex Mack. The O line needs help and depth more than it has. Yeah, they’ve made some bad choices, but still and all, this team should be 6-2 with the talent they have.
Game to game, though, the penalties, the false starts, the PIs, and failed 3rd and 4th downs, the terrible clock management, and the asinine use of the red flag last game all smacks of a coaching staff that is not getting the job done. The defense was missing tackles all over the field. All game. Who prepares these guys for football? It’s like they all collectively thought AZ would roll over since Murray and Hopkins were sidelined. They didn’t. We got crushed. That is on the coaching staff.
I don’t think these players are as good as you think they are. Especially the secondary. You can’t have guys off the street at cornerback it doesn’t work and the domino effect is enormous. I don’t think guys getting injured are necessarily the fault of the coaching staff but it was a huge misstep to think this team would be fine just as long as nobody got injured
Well, the secondary is a problem that they’ve ignored in the draft for a while now. Thomas notwithstanding. Theere were a lot of good CBs they passed on.
Bailey and Genoves both struggled to hit High A pitching; each did well at Low A San Jose but numbers dropped at Eugene. Fall league stuff is nice (Luciano has struggled there too btw) but at some point they are gonna have to show they can move up the minor league chain and handle the bat vs. advanced pitching. These guys are 2 years away from MLB, like most other top prospects.
Story in Athletic today from Brisbee suggesting Bart might not be the one main guy to do most of catching. Says Giants could go get Yan Gomes or Wilson Contreras to share C duties with Bart for 2022, especially if couple new SPs are brought in. Sounds kinda weird but maybe that could work, with Bart in Casali role and growing into more PT .
In another story Gausman said how much Giants pitchers liked Casali. Team won helluva lot of games with him behind plate even if he didn’t hit much.
The recent Niners drafts always look good on paper and then they hit the field. I think an overhaul is due now to stop the bleeding.
Even with all the catchers we have I still think we go get another vet to replace Posey. Where that leaves Casali probably means he is still on the roster until Bart can show he’s an every other day catcher at the pro level.
Either Bart cuts it or he doesn’t. Platooning at catcher now? We don’t need 3 catchers.
I think Winder 9:04 is right. Look at what Dogs did with Will Smith 2019. He was 24, he only had handful of games May June July they didn’t bring him up as regular until August. By that time their regular guys 36 yr old Russell Martin and the younger guy Austin Barnes weren’t hitting at all, and Smith exploded. The other 2 in 500 ABs hit handful of HRs and Smith had 15 in 170 ABs with .900 OPS.
And he hasn’t looked back. So you could start season with Gomes Contreras or Casali combo then move Bart in behind whichever one of them you want to keep.
One thing we know for sure, the Giants will sign some guys that look like they were finalists in the Mac Williamson beard competition.
Lulz that’s for sure Bozo every team has some nowadays..🤠
Yeah I agree with Winder, there not going to hand over the keys to the Ferrari right away to Bart until 2 things come into play..
1) If he hits well enough to satisfy Kapler and the coaches with consistently.
2)He might except for Webb be handling a whole new Starting Staff and that’s a huge challenge as well learning their tendencies where a Vet like Casali are Contreas less of a curve( no pun intended)
I’m more then fine thinking ahead by are fearless Top Dog Z man stocking up with another catcher and a switch hitting Catcher in Bailey( bonus points) as the catching position is easily the hardest position to fill, now they have 2 and with the DH I’m sure on its way, it’s a nice luxury going forward with both Bart&Bailey getting plenty of usage.. Z/H first draft he went 2 bats Bishop and Bailey and mostly more bats after that, then gets Harrison and Bedar and a soon to be here Sean Hejjele (the 7ft Lurch) and then u add Lucky Luciano and Ramos plus the real riser OF Marte who now is rated higher then Ramos and the future looks great!
Hejjele didn’t impress much in second half of 2021 in the minors.
IMO he’s not a lock by any means to be at some point in the 2022 rotation…
As far Niners go, I’ll agree with Flavor at 12:19.
The secondary is flat awful, pass rush that supposed to mitigate that is underwhelming. O line is fine enough for running game but that’s it and has zero depth. Watching the lack of tackling vs. Cardinals that allowed backups to kick their ass, that’s not on coaching staff, it’s on players being unable to do minimum to stop people from scoring.
Not absolving game planning by coaching staff who overestimate what they think players can do, or GM who put too many unskilled 43 group together, but talent level on this teams says 6 wins. In a division as tough as one they are in, ain’t gonna cut it and there isn’t a quick fix—get one better guy here–available either especially given picks they have forfeited to get to where they are now. And that one better guy that will turn them around is not Trey Lance.
another brilliant personnel move
The Rams just picked up Beckham, The only thing I can say is at least it’s not Seattle.
Yeah, what a turd that pick turned out to be.
We’ve talked a lot here about the position players for next season, just a bit about the pitching. I was under the impression that they’d probably look for 2 at least mid-level starters. Story on Giants’ site says they’re in discussions with Disco and are *interested* in also talking to both Wood and Gasman. Out of those 3, I kinda thought they might bring back one, but all 3? It’s early yet, but that would surprise me if they sign multi-year deals with all 3. And I’m not even sure which of the 3 I would want back. Wood was nearly lights out at the end, while Disco choked it up in the NLDS, and Gasman was still serviceable despite a weaker 2nd half.
Dogs already fired first salvo on pitching by picking up A Heaney. Must have seen something in peripherals they liked.
With dang near everyone after pitching, and better ones costing $20 mil plus per year, not gonna be easy to go out and get x amount of SPs. I could see Z working out deals to keep the other 3 and trying to find one more, either in Brebbia aisle or at top end of market.
Willie, the same defense that held AZ to 17 points when AZ was healthy gave up the ghost last weekend against the backups. They were not prepared to play. Coaching. Armstead is the biggest disappointment on the D line as far as the pass rush goes.
And I hope they pass on Gausman. He’s had 1/2 a great season among 9 mediocre years.
I’m agreed on Gausman.
He fell off a cliff in the second half. Why?
The league figured him out — just don’t swing at his forkball?
His arm went dead?
He couldn’t use Spider Glue or whatever sticky stuff anymore, and that affected his out pitch? (I doubt this one, his forkball shouldn’t rely on spin rate).
Regardless, he was good for 2 seasons, I think a 3rd is tempting fate…
Yeah gausman is the last guy I’d re-sign for that amount of coin.
Why are you surprised about Armstead? Take away Buckner and the double team he always soaked up and Armstead is who is is– and them picking him over Buck was yet another bad personnel decision
As far as I see it the biggest mistake we’ve made in the Shanny years was letting Buckner go. Then the Solomon draft, etc. It’s been 5 years it’s time for a change.
Norman and Kirkpatrick are not OK, they suck and those guys start. It’s same d that has given up 30 points 4 different times, once vs. Detroit the other times in losses, like GB. It’s ranked 25th in the league–not coaching, players aren’t good enough and all the prep in world isn’t going to change that. They’ve got Rams twice and Wilson again, who even Saleh couldn’t stop with his guys.
Yeah Armstead sucks without Buckner’s presence taking the double teams for him. Shit he can’t even beat one on one’s matches.Buckner is All-Pro and the heart of that defense, which sucks now, great teams find ways to keep great players, the 49ers obviously are clueless in that department.Oh and how’s Kinlaw working out? Just another BUST…And that’s from Donte “Hitman” Witner..
Kinlaw isn’t a bust. Yet. Might as well call Bosa a bust for missing a season.
From what I’ve read about the MLB CBA proposal, it sounds to me like they want a strike.
McGlinchy’s back up sucks and he’s got RT for rest of season. So does back up for Brunskill. One of those is gonna get G killed.
Forty sucking Niners and the return of the brown paper bags
coming back real soon after the Rams blow them out Sunday..
Only QBs they’ve beaten this season are Goff and 0-8 Lions, struggling young guy Hurts and 3-6 Eagles and Fields and equally bad Bears. Any team with a QB with a clue, no.
Thing is, with better clock management, they beat GB. Slow starts in the Seattle, Indy, 1st Az game, 2nd AZ game, and even Philly and Chicago speaks to what? How motivated this team is? They were in most of these games and had chances to put them away but didn’t. The Seattle game was marred with numerous PI calls. Same with Indy. They have notoriously started fast and then gone away from what worked.
They find different ways to fuck up and lose. Moseley, who’s usually pretty good, hugs his WR for 15 yards into the end zone on 3rd and goal in that Indy game.
Kilpatrick doesn’t even try to knock a pass down net drive, for a 35 yard gain. NONE of the CBs or safeties EVER look for the ball. This is why they constantly get called for PI. The WR slows down and we run into the guy. All you do is watch the WR until his head goes up to track the ball. Then you turn around and defend. The Philly game same thing. Hurts would underthrow guys and we would run over the WR.
This is on the coaching staff to teach these guy how to cover better.
Gruden sues the NFL and Goodell for destroying his Raider contract and career.

Huh. I think he did that all by himself.
Well, it’s all of the above. This team with the players they have, injured or no, shouldn’t be this bad.
There’s a different element that fucks up each week. But the constant is stupid penalties.
McVay 4-1 on MNF
Shanahan 1-4 on MNF
Enough said how this one turns out even if Shanny had previous success against the Rams it was against one of the worst QB’s in the league in Jared Goff not one of the best in Matthew Stafford.
Yeah, we get to see if this team has any guts. They were humiliated last week. Outplayed by a scrub.
Someone has to step up and get these guys motivated to play together. It sure isn’t the coaching staff. And Lynch just spent this morning talking shit about Fred Warner. Maybe he’s trying to get him to step up as a leader.
