A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Peeing In Their Pool

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 7, 2022

Keeping in mind the competition and the obvious unfillable holes we have on our team that was a nice comeback win on the road. Pride and energy were both on display.

Lots of trade ideas gonna get proposed between now and the deadline. If they give up, it’s gonna look like Loo’s Smith/Andujar pick ups. GH wants Josh Bell but that’s only if we go for it and pay through the nose–an unlikely move.

I do trust Zaidi in situations like this. He’s got an eye for talent and if he wants to wheel and deal at the deadline I’m all for that. As was the convern when it happened, when you re-sign oldies like Craw and Belt with no one behind them in the system you’re going to need to find their replacements via trade and free agency. Z, go do your thing.

Next year is Zaidi’s contract year, so his 5 year plan should be coming into focus soon.
Also, I think what he does at the deadline this year and in the offseason, will show how much of a leash ownership has had on his spending.

Crazy boxscore. Top 6 in lineup 0-20. PHs/replacements batted 1.000 including Wynns with sac bunt (on his own per Kap) and all important sac fly rbi. Giants scored 7 runs on 6 hits.
Type of W that sends the “you know winning WS as wild card is part of Giants 3/5 DNA” fans to all night Safeway to restock saran wrap.

doval threw 37 pitches and recorded 2 outs and left with bases loaded.

    • willedav said, on July 7, 2022 at 8:38 am

Long btw might start one of 4 in SD this weekend. Estrada expected back Friday per Slush, who also said Gonzalez homered in first at bat in Salt Lake. I’d guess the Y Not’s days are numbered.
Note that when Kap subbed in Slater, he removed Wade Jr from OF and kept Joc in there.

  3. Giant Head said, on July 7, 2022 at 8:35 am

Josh Bell has been raking of late, last 30 games .413 OBP and slugging .632. That would be a pace of about 96 runs scored 40 homers and 108 rbis over a season and that is with a pretty awful Gnats team. Need a Belt replacement for next season who can actually play.

And Thanks for the Vida Blue feedback from the Flap…sad to hear about such a legend.

    • Flavor said, on July 7, 2022 at 9:02 am

he’s a buy-high guy for a team that’s just a piece away. We are many pieces away.

  4. willedav said, on July 7, 2022 at 8:43 am

Slush also said SF picked RHP Tobias Myers (?) from Cleveland for cash and optioned him to Sac.

    • Flavor said, on July 7, 2022 at 10:24 am

he’s 1-9 in AAA this year and just got designated for assignment. Classic Z special.

      • willedav said, on July 7, 2022 at 10:32 am

yeah saw that on B/R. Was in Rays system prior to Cleveland (who DFA’d him) and had done OK at AA level in 2021 Mostly a starter, but yes got lit up at AAA to tune of 6.00 ERA.

Since 6/23 the Padres are reeling like the Giants going 3-9 and had Seattle take both games at there house 8-2 and 6-2.I have a feeling that win yesterday will help the Giants in this series and I’m boldly predicting 3 out of 4 against them starting tonight..

The great James Caan has died at 82…

    • willedav said, on July 7, 2022 at 12:06 pm

Sad. From what I read, he really wanted Coppola to give him Brando role. Was perfect Sonny.

  7. snarkk said, on July 7, 2022 at 11:18 am

Nice to see Bart getting hold of one last night.
Hopefully he found an approach in his minor league stint; and it’s not a case of a blind squirrel…

  8. snarkk said, on July 7, 2022 at 11:23 am

    Jimmy Caan dead at 82.
Classic scenes in Godfather — “Bada Bing” and beating up Carlo in the street with the trash can lid.
He was good in Misery, but I really disliked that movie…

    • Flavor said, on July 7, 2022 at 11:48 am

Really? What didn’t you like about MIsery?

      • snarkk said, on July 7, 2022 at 3:13 pm

        Just bored me…

    • unca_chuck said, on July 7, 2022 at 2:36 pm

The book was miles better. But I thought both Kathy Bates and James Caan did great in that movie.

  9. Macdog said, on July 7, 2022 at 12:49 pm

Sad to hear about James Caan. I don’t know how well known this is, but Caan made an uncredited appearance as a swashbuckling bad guy on a 2-part episode of Get Smart, doing so as a favor to his friend Don Adams. Don Rickles also made an uncredited appearance in part 2.

  10. alleykat69 said, on July 7, 2022 at 1:23 pm

Yeah real bummer hearing about James Caan’s passing..
One of his 1st roles in a western called Eldorado along with John Wayne&Robert Mitchum he played a character named Mississippi. He takes on this cowboy in a saloon who killed his best friend. He has no gun but egged the cowboy on as bad guy Christoper George watched and was saying I want to see how’s he going to do this.
So they square off , cowboy starts to draw from his holdster, and Mississippi quickly draws a knife from his black square hat 🎩 and plants it in the Cowboys chest! Pretty cool scene..

Loved Caan in Rollerball as well, the futuristic game of rollerblades and motorcycles where it turned into a death match in the end, as the fans chant Jonathan!Jonathan!Jonathan! at the end..
Also a very young Caan playing a German Kraut in Combat :Anatomy of a Patrol

He has a son Scott Caan who’s a actor that people might know from the newer version of Hawaii 5-O playing yes bookem Danno..

Acting is a tough gig. Some get very rich doing it, but the vast majority don’t. But even for those at the top, it’s a tough gig. The struggle to get good roles, and knowing that your acting work can be admired or ridiculed, and being on location for long periods of time which puts strains on relationships. Plus the work itself is actually hard. Memorizing an amazing amount of stuff, and making a character come alive and engage the audience.
Caan did it as well as anyone. He was very good at it. He has a body of work he could be proud of, overall.
About 10 years ago, he was in a sit-com about an adult daughter coming back to live with her father. I watched the series and liked it. It was funny and had heart to it. Unfortunately, like a lot of good shows, it didn’t get good initial ratings, and was canceled after one season. Nowadays, TV networks are more impatient than ever, and a show has a very limited amount of time to find its audience. The landscape is littered with great shows that only got one season, but were really good. Firefly, Wonderfalls, and many others. A lot of lousy shows get canceled after one season, but those cancellations are very deserved, obviously.

    • zumiee said, on July 7, 2022 at 2:28 pm

I looked up that Caan TV show on Wikipedia. It’s called “Back in the Game” :

“Back in the Game is an American sitcom about a newly divorced single mother who has to move back home to live with her ex-minor league baseball manager father.[1] It aired from September 25, 2013, to February 23, 2014, on ABC.[2] The series stars James Caan and Maggie Lawson and aired during the 2013–14 American television season as a Wednesday night entry. Back in the Game was co-created and executive-produced by brothers Mark and Robb Cullen for 20th Century Fox Television. The series was green-lit by ABC for a series order pickup on May 10, 2013.[3]

On November 1, 2013, ABC announced it was cancelling Back in the Game.[4] Following its tenth aired episode, ABC pulled the series from its schedule and left three episodes unaired.[5] On February 23, 2014, the remaining episodes were released on iTunes, Amazon and other streaming services.[6]”

  12. unca_chuck said, on July 7, 2022 at 3:09 pm

Yeah, Caan always brought his A game to whatever role he was in. Even Silent Movie. Always liked him in whatever he was doing. Brian’s Song was very very good. One of his best.

  26. unca_chuck said, on July 7, 2022 at 7:58 pm

This team looks like it is being followed by dead balls. We’ve hit about 30 warning track balls these last 6 games.

Machado is destroying the Giants this season.

  28. alleykat69 said, on July 7, 2022 at 8:13 pm

Not much of a dead ball for Machado crushing it 421ft second deck.

  70. snarkk said, on July 7, 2022 at 10:33 pm

Insert my usual rant on Giants not bunting.
Padres show how it’s done with bunting.
Horrendous defense again by a Giants pitcher, unless someone did not tell him where to throw the ball, in that case it’s not his fault.
2 hits they got over an entire extra innings game.
    Giants suck…

  71. xoot said, on July 7, 2022 at 10:37 pm

Kapler and crew look like fucking fools yet again. wtf? Garcia’s seizure is partly on him, but why wasn’t he prepared for the bunt? The Giants don’t seem to understand that the bunt is very likely (or, even, very advisable, ahem) with the ghost runner on 2d. Next time they visit Coors Field maybe the Mindfulness Coach can convene a staff meditation session in the trees in CF to seek an answer to this perplexing question. I’m sick of this shit.

  72. alleykat69 said, on July 7, 2022 at 10:47 pm

Why do you walk Nola to start the inning? And Grisham is tied for the league in sac bunts with 6? U know he’s bunting just stupid ass thinking by Kapler again..

    • xoot said, on July 7, 2022 at 10:54 pm

that dipshit post game commentator agrees with you. maybe he’s right. 😉

    • unca_chuck said, on July 8, 2022 at 8:17 am

Setting up the DP isn’t a bad move. But Garcia’s error was yet another brain-fart by a pitcher making a pretty standard play. Would it change the game? Prolly not, as we’d walk the next guy after the bunt, but at least the IFers can pay back.

      • unca_chuck said, on July 8, 2022 at 8:29 am

Mainly because Nola’s run doesn’t matter.
