We Continue To Lose On Every Level
I’m just disgusted with this Soto deal for San Diego. We DID have the prospects but SD adding Gore who has like 6 years of control left as a solid #2 starter was huge. We might not have had that capital in the end but being creative is what Z is supposed to be good at. So I will ask this, respectfully…..
What exactly is Farhan doing? I know he can dumpster dive but what else can he do? He’s just sitting on his hands watching LA and SD enrich themselves to ridiculous levels. What is he getting paid to do, exactly?
I’m just sick to death about all of this.
i’m also pissed off we didn’t get Gallo (of course LA did). He was a perfect buy low player. And i bet getting out of NY is going to turn his year around
Disagree on level of prospects in Giants system; there aren’t near enough high quality ones yet. SF has no one at level of Abrams whatsoever. Toss in Gore and the only comp is Harrison, who might hit ML level next season but on innings limit. Giants cannot match what Pads gave up pure and simple. Check in on Soto in 2 years.
No one trusts the process any more, that’s a hmmnn. He was brought in with freedom to hire his own mgr. scouts draft and development people to replace Sabe/Evans group– it’s a fail?
Z has been able to add decent players (Yaz Solano Flores Estrada Gonzalez) and pitchers on the cheap. Let’s see what he does this offseason to acquire more talent before writing off seasons of future.
Problem with Soto is who Giants would have had to put around him and who they could possibly get by spending more $$. Having one guy like him in lineup isn’t ever going to be enough. Padres had 2 legit superstars Machado and Tatis Jr. last year and look what happened. Trea Turner is so not coming here. As for Correa @$35 mil, pass.
Z would have had to get creative but fucking James’ buddy came up with the idea for him. Trade Rodon for prospects then package those + whoever the Nats wanted from our current system. As I said, Gore was something we really couldn’t add so maybe we never had a chance.
But the facts remain: SD and LA enrich themselves to absurd levels and Z sits around fucking bargain hunting in the Brebbia aisle. That AIN’T gonna fucking get it done.
That is the formula the Yankees use to get the players they want but also keep the Farm intact.
Soto is Soto, prospects are just prospects until proven otherwise. I don’t agree that the Giants couldn’t build a championship team around Soto, I can’t think of one team out there that is only building championship teams through their farm, not one. We have one or two guys in our system that may become franchise type players (I hope they will, but they are still a might) and I don’t expect to see them before 2024, so why not get a franchise player like Soto and build around him?
Jesus. We ALL knew this before LAST SEASON. Most everyone was in on the process. The Giants farm system was GARBAGE. We are still wading through the shit that Sabe/Evans left us. The year of COVID did no one any favors, plus the gutting of the minor leagues by Manfred von Fuckface really threw a wrench into the system.
They are WAITING for the Farhan crop to come through the system. Throwing big contracts around now would be akin to shooting themselves in the feet. They are getting out from the dumb re-ups they did last year, and the biggest error of the Farhan tenure. LaStella. Once they get out from under Belt, Longo, and hopefully Crawfish and LaStella, they will have flexibility and no onerous deals clogging the team.
And, get this, they aren’t gonna spend next year either. unless it is someone they can control for a few seasons. The prospects to look out for are in A ball. We ain’t doing anything for a couple years.
Sitting around waiting for prospects and doing nothing else is not acceptable. Prospects are also commodities. Package some of them up in a trade. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing (ie, we keep every prospect or we trade every prospect). Shit, that’s what a good GM does— trades players who have perceived value for players who are ready to help now.
You can ony get creative when you have enough chips. We don’t have enough now.
Next year is full blown tear-down.
another problem: guys like Ramos and Bart aren’t panning out. Maybe the rest of the league thinks our farm system is shit. It’s is rated fairly highly tho
and Rodon is another good topic. Why the fuck are we keeping him? Ok, you don’t want to take a shot at Soto. How about we trade Rondon to improve this farm system all you guys think is so precarious
LA and SD have assembled teams that are LIGHT YEARS ahead of us. Take a look at the SD line up once they get Tatis back. It’s literally an all star LU. Same with LA. And we have…fucking Wilmet? Fucking Estrada? Fucking Belt and Crwford? Come on you guys should be OUTRAGED right now
Alright, I’m totally risking a write-up by using my work computer, but I have to say something. We were never getting Soto. I’m not going to pretend like I know anything about any team’s farm system, but all these prospects we have seem to be fading away or at least I don’t really hear much about them anymore. Last season was the dumbest fluke. A fun ride for sure, but it caused Farhan to pump the brakes on the necessary tear down and give that stupid contract to Craw. Totally agree with you unca.
you took more of a risk today with using your work computer than Z has taken in a full year. Last thing he did that held any kind of risk was trade for Bryant. Since then, he sits on his hands and does nothing. And I disagree we could have at least been in play for Soto had Z gotten creative. There is absolutely zero reason to hold on to Rondon right now. He has value that is confirmed. Will Z do nothing with him? Probably.
we just traded Ruf for JD Davis. Why did he do that? Ruf is marginally better than Davis. Davis is just a worse version of Ruf. Was he just trying to do the Mets a solid? WHat the fuck is FARHAN doing??????
On vaca in the Adirondacks And Padres did not get stuck with the Corbin contract. Farhan’s only option to try and make a deal would have been likely to take that contract as well.
And Pads added Josh Bell correct and dumped Hosmer? Very savvy moves. Ruff traded and no prospects??? Why would Mets Yanks others not go all in on Rodon???
Hosmer didn’t go. He had a no-trade clause he exercised.
He went to the red Sox. sD sent voit instead to wash
Yanks got Montas and Trivino from the A’s.
Because this is the Giants way. And MLB is becoming the NBA. Marginal teams make the playoffs now, and you can call your season a success. Or a one-and-done. They are playing both sides against the middle. Sure, I’d love to see a full teardown with Joc and Rodon going, but they ain’t gonna do it. They haven’t done it since they moved.
Ok I see there are some prospects coming with Davis.
We have 1:35 left.
I hope we get something for Rodon. But I ain’t holding my breath.
Farhan wants a lot for him. Thing is, Rodon is likely a rental no matter where he goes due to his opt-out after this year. On the open market if things go as they are, he’ll get more than that $22.5 and he’ll get a huge deal.
Casali to the Mariners for AAA RHP Michael Stryffeler.
I’m gonna go back and look at threads from a year ago at deadline and try to find anyone that didn’t think Z/H knew what they were doing and weren’t wildly happy about having them at top of franchise. Reminds me of what Dean Smith said after he won NCAA title, that all of a sudden people think he got lot smarter. so did Z suddenly get dumber?
And btw, what superstars were there that accounted for all 107Ws then? Posey, old guys and bunch of role players.
Soto talk was pipedream to begin with and completely unrealistic. The idea of trading Rodon for “a haul” (also not happening for a rental) and then somehow adding that into package for Soto was equally so. Pads got him for 2 years, fine. Doesn’t guarantee them anything.
Ruf for RHP Szapucki, RHP Seymour, LHP Zwack.
The all-consonant team.
The thing no one expected last year was the the bore core all played their best in like 5 years. All at the same time. And they all tripped over their dicks and hit the IR this year. Posey got his out of harm’s way.
If they are gonna do it, they gonna slide this bitch under the wire like last year.
So we got some dude named Stryffeler for Casali. Think I would have rather had Stryffeler’s mom.
Haaaaaa! That’s some funny shit.
Looks like Negative Wynns AR has found a home this year.
It hasn’t really worked yet for SD but I like the moxie AJ Preller has shown. He’s not just sitting around doing jackshit. He makes bold moves. I think he’s nailed it with this Soto move. We are completely fucked for at least the next 5 years probably longer with LA and SD at the top of our division
And i like how Preller thought quick on his feet. Hosmer nixes the deal, fuck it, Preller sends him to Boston and then gives Wash Voit. That was quick thinking and very creative.
Farhan doesn’t understand how to do any of this……..
gentlemen: who has some advice on which location to hit? I was thinking about a day game followed by O.Jo for dinner. Thoughts?

to me, marty
Good morning Flav,
Congratulations on winning the July contest…you’ll really enjoy the dinner for two at OJ’s..
Now which location would you like to go to…North Beach, Westlake, or West Portal (which is mostly take out)
What date do you want to reserve…
What time do you want to go there..
Just let me know and I’ll set everything up…please give me your phone number too in case we need to get in touch with you.
Again congratulations…this is a tough contest to win as you know,..
Best,
Marty
there goes Rosenthal! We hardly knew you dawg. So we have traded Casali, Ruf, Matt Boyd, and now Rosenthal. Bargain basement bullshit. Move Rodon goddammit!
i’ll give Farhan a little credit: he has traded 3 dudes who are currently on the IL today. That’s impressive.
my response to him and his back to me:

Marty!
Thanks again, this is so generous and I couldn’t be more excited. I think I’d like to hit a day game
and then head over to O.Jo with my daughter for dinner. Let me get with her about her schedule
and see what looks best.
By the way, I met you a few years ago, you interviewed my friend Paul Kocak who had written a book
called Chasing Willie Mays. You interviewed him on the patio before a game, we were a pretty boisterous
crew. Lots of fun.
Anyway, thank you again, I’ll be in touch after I coordinate with my daughter Katie.

Terrific I remember Paul very well…You will enjoy the dinner

Ha Pawlie. Great pic day!
Don;t know what we get . . .
they just got some shitty low A outfielder who is not really a prospect.
I wanted the Flap to go out with a bang. Not likely. I’m with Craig. This is lame. Again. A few years ago we held on to Smith and Madbum and then wrecked our bullpen so we lost out on playoffs anyway. Cant have it both ways.
DECIDE!!
Now we got rid of a few small pieces that make us a tiny bit worse. So why not all in and trade Joc and Rondon? Lack of courage or ownership? Well if no tear down then look at the damn team and HELP!
Get a reliever or 2, maybe a lesser bat and try to get in the playoffs! FUCK!
Congrats Craig on dinner. Fun!
Boyd was part of the Casali deal We get Andy Thomas along sith Stiffler’s mom.
i wasn’t really paying attention to some of the O.Jo banter. Can I get a rec’d from those who have been to the one in North Beach? Is that the one I should go to?
The North Beach one is stylin and Westlake is more old school but both of them have (or had) great food. Haven’t been to the new West Portal one.
By trading Boyd and Rosenthal Farhan OBVIOUSLY knows this season is over. He had counted on both to come back late in year and help shore up the pitching staff. So if he knows it’s over why the fuck didn’t he trade Rodon too? What a waste of a deadline.
here’s a fucked up story for you: i was supposed to go to the game tonight, It’s my sister’s bday she got sweet seats right behind home plate. But she’s had covid for the last 10 days, she got it the same day my daughter got it. So she doesn’t want me to go because she’s worried I may be infected by Katie and she doesn’t want to risk me infecting her husband and kids. LOL how fucked up is that? I am totally negative, if anything I should be worried about being around them– her husband could easily have caught this shit from her when she was sick.Anyway, no home plate action for Big Flavor tonight. Fuck!
Damn. Congrats on the dinner. Sucks about the game.
Boyd and Rosenthal had very little chance to even play this year so I’m glad they got what they got for them.
I just with they’d trade Garoppolo.
they got Rosenthal 12 days ago. They had a plan to use both as the year was closing out. Milw and Sea obviously think they’ll pitch this year. It was an obvious admission by Farhan that this season is over. And yet he sits on his fucking hands and doesn’t trade the 2 chips he could actually trade to get something good.
He hasn’t pitched since 2020 and he;s looking at mid september.
We don’t have the prospects to trade for Juan Soto. Washington wouldn’t even pick up the phone if we called on Soto. Our farm system is shit. Sabevans didn’t leave much and Z hasn’t exactly been on fire with his draft picks either.
And how much can we get for Rodon with his funky contract? 2 decent prospects at best, I would guess.
Hell, I’m just thankful the Dodgers didn’t get Soto. That may have pushed me over the edge altogether in terms of devoting time and energy to MLB.
I support Farhan 100%. Last year was so amazing that I am willing to put up with 3 years of crap and not bitch about a thing. This year is year 1 of 3.
And I still think they need to fix right center at some point or it will continue to prevent us from getting a shot at stud LH bats. (Ok, the fence is the one thing I will continue to bitch about LOL)
The North Beach Joe’s is nice, I love that spot. But I grew up going to Westlake, where my wild card Uncle knew everybody and would make a big scene whenever we went there. Pissed my parents off, but amused me big time. I recommend the Steak ala Bruno.
Ruf was good for us, but I’ll take a flyer on JD Davis and 3 arms. JD is part of that stable of Elk Grove dudes including my boy Rowdy Tellez. Those Elk Grove dudes are the real deal, Bill Cartwright included.
i went to a Bil Cartwright basketball Summer camp in 1980. It was a week long. Dude showed up for 5 minutes, waved to all of us in the gym and then bounced. LOL
i guarantee you that if Rowdy did a baseball camp, motherfucker would show up and teach the whole week
Diggity–ok so we get two decent prospects for him. Well, that’s good right? Everyone keeps talking about how shitty our farm system is (though I don’t think that’s true). Wouldn’t adding a couple of prospects be a better plan than Rondon giving us 8 more starts in a lost season?
I completely do not understand not trading Joc and Rodon.
Giants fans with half a brain are not going to like this at all.
This organization needs young prospects, real prospects.
Rodon will bounce next season and sign some 5 year deal for $130MM, then his arm will blow up halfway through the deal. So, the Giants get some compensatory BS draft pick, which is worth exactly nothing in the foreseeable future…
Well one of those netted them Kyle Harrison. From either Bum or Will Smith.
We’ll never know what the offers were. Likely something like the shit we gave up for Bryant last year. For the same reason. You get him for 2 months and watch him take the next big deal.
I think the rest of MLB basically thinks SF farm system dudes have fleas, and want nothing to do with trading value for them. The trades SF made today seem like re-arranging furniture…
agreed
what in the fucking hell is he even talking about
this is perfect
Says it all!
Giants can expect some crappy crowds the rest of the season unless there is a miracle stretch run.
As it should be.
Giants fans are not going to continue spending on $18 beers and crazy parking prices to watch no-name AAAA dudes from other organizations passing through for that night’s game…
Serious Giants fans for the most part went out the window with Candlestick. Now it is more of a wine/cheese/Tesla crowd that only shows if there are superstars on the field and it is the place to be.
A 107 win team deserved better support coming into this year than it has received.
Rodon for 2 decent prospects? I wouldn’t have done that, but I can understand someone saying they would.
If they did that and the Nats said give us those 2 guys plus Luciano, Harrison, Ramos, and Bart and we’ll send you Soto and Bell—would you do that deal?
I would not. We’re not one player away and there is no way in hell we are signing Soto long term with our park dimensions and Boras as the agent.
I think the Nats are smart as hell btw on how they handled this and I look forward to seeing how all this young talent comes together.
the Nats got a great haul. But when you say “would you do that deal?” I say fuck yeah. Sure, we are more than 1 player away but how bout we start adding some players? Soto and Bell are young and Zaidi could do his fucking Brebbia aisle purchases and center it around them. Gotta start somewhere. And I am tired of filling up the Roster with Ruf’s and Estrada’s and Wilmet’s.
Another example of the Mets putting out a TV broadcast geared toward serious baseball fans—they did not go to commercial break after the top of the first so the audience could watch DeGromm take the mound, see his warm up pitches, see the crowd reaction etc. And didn’t make any announcement about that. Just did it.
Bad ass. Though I must admit I find Met’s broadcasts much more enjoyable when they are underperforming and there is a heavy angst hanging over the broadcast booth.
Something to think about re: Soto.
by time he becomes FA, Pads will be in 3 rd year of Musgrove extension expected to be 5 yrs/$100 mil.
Manny Machado will be making $32 mil, through season 2028.
Tatis Jr. will be making $20 mil in 2025 and 26, $25 mil in next 2 years, and thereafter $36 mil for 6 years.
ESPN guys did NOT think Soto will stick around re-sign with them for $500 mil or whatever Boras would demand.
then they’re idiots. The ESPN guys. SD isn’t trading all that and then not getting Soto to resign. They obviously checked into this first.
Checked into it with Boras? Good luck with that. 2 years in SD (um who are not Mets Yanks or Dodgers) and he and Boras will be open for biz
i think you’re not thinking this through. If he bails I’ll give you and the ESPN guys some credit. But San Diego isn’t insane, they aren’t handing over that massive haul just to see the guy walk….
this was always so obviously going to happen. A’s should move there too
ah Laura Britt in her strappy sandals. Looks great. Hope she doesn’t have to walk much.
When I was coaching HS ball there was a school with long time Girl’s coach who’s game day outfit included knee high leather boots with big heel. First half warm ups are always at opposite side of floor from bench and invariably at some point she would walk out all the way out onto floor past midcourt in them and back.
I always wondered why home team coach didn’t ask her, “Hey either take those Fing boots off or get off my floor.”
tons of tweets from level headed Giants fans who see through Farhan’s smokescreen
https://www.sportskeeda.com/baseball/news-l-deadline-giants-farhan-good-losing-players-getting-nothing-i-guess-san-francisco-giants-fans-frustrated-team-retaining-carlos-rodon-joc-pederson-trade-deadline?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=sportskeeda
Hmmmm…I would love to check the record as I seem to remember that you posted the Raiders going to Vegas was a bad idea. I thought it was a marriage made in heaven from day one.
For whatever reason, a lot of Padre fans I know can’t stand Hosmer. Dumping him and getting Soto the day after landing Hader is absolutely sending these guys over the moon.
But the Pads often find a way to fuck things up, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
uh, no. That was Chuck. I said it made perfect sense
They got shit offers is what that means.
Hey, check out what Alexander Canario is doing in AA.
328 AB 57 Runs 85 hits 24 HRs 66 RBI 11 .259 .341 .899
you say *shit offers* but all the national guys and the local scribes said the asking price was high. Farhan was out of his league today and it showed. Embarassing.
Glad I can’t see this I guess.
Well, Farhan wanted more than was offered. Out of his league? Please. Joc isn’t gonna get much. He’s a platoon guy who hasn’t hit for shit in 1.5 months. Rodon? Speculate all you want, we don’t know what the offers were.
i wasn’t putting Joc in the same category as Rondon. But there was significant interest in Rodon and for good reason. Farhan probably asked for the moon like to tool he is. OUT OF HIS FUCKING LEAGUE. This winter we’ll see him recoil safely back to his dumpster diving ways
Zaidi picked a bad half-inning to get interviewed in the booth.
The Dodgers have batted so long in the half-inning, K&K are running out of questions to ask him.
I give him credit for coming on the air the evening of the trade deadline, but it doesn’t take a ton of skill to field questions from these two creampuffs.
Wow, that was some stellar play by the Giants out there.
Diggity–check your work before you start talking shit.

The raiders made a great move by going to Vegas. That stadium will be packed constantly. Look how it worked out for the Knights, they’re the hottest ticket in town. Davis is going to make so much money on this move
Go back further than that–before they actually moved. Maybe I’m wrong, but I could swear there were a few voices on here, including yours, saying it was a bad idea.
Even the city connect uniforms weren’t up to facing the Dodgers.
Well, I had a great lunch today, anyway. It was at a Vietnamese restaurant. I don’t know the names of all the items, but it was some kind of barbequed or grilled pork, rice, some long thin noodles, an egg roll, and a salad that had lettuce, shredded carrots, and shredded cucumbers in it. Everything was most excellent.
banh mi sandwich is one of my favorite sandwiches to get
I looked up a photo of it. Looks great!
i stumbled upon one some drunken night at the El Dorado casino in Reno. From then onward I started ordering one to the poker table every time I played. And since then I have found places that make epic banh mi sandos. Had one the other day in Los Altos. Fantastic. Would love to hear Paul chime in on this. I think he’s out of surgery for his new hip
It’s hard for me to get too worked up about Zaidi when certain very well-paid players are having total non-seasons. Belt, Craw, Longo, La Stella.
Diggity– this is from 2018. I’m not gonna keep doing this though. A little wishy washy at the end but the tone is clear
Flavor said, on December 24, 2018 at 7:31 am (Edit)
WillieD–regarding your first paragraph, if that were true why would any fans in any city go to the games? Why not just go to a rad sports bar with “multi big screens”? The people I know who live in Vegas don’t hang out in casinos all day, that’s for the visitors. Native Vegas people who have jobs/money love sports and will embrace the Raiders completely. Raider fans live everywhere, by the way, not just Oakland. They travel well. The few remaining tickets available will get bought up in a nano second by people wanting to go *see a show*.
Look, this isn’t even something to kick around, they’ll either sellout every game or the place will be a ghost town. We’ll find out soon enough, right?
I watched a documentary about the band Oasis the other night. I have mixed feelings about that band. I like their sound a lot, but I’m not convinced the songwriting is really there. But it’s pleasant music. I just don’t see them as one of the great bands of the ’90s, although they were HUGE in Britain. And the dysfunction between the Gallagher brothers is off-putting. Although the documentary does show they had an abusive father and a dysfunctional childhood.
The Giants should just forfeit the last two games of this Dodger series, and take some time off. Watch some movies or something.
It’s the 4th inning and it’s already time for long camera shots of kids eating popcorn.
Popcorn is a surprisingly good source of fiber…
Bay Area Round Tripper!
We got us a game.
The unable to score with bases loaded and no outs jinx, has to be one of the weirdest ones in baseball.
A bad day at the deadline, and another time with bases loaded, no outs, and don’t score. Unwatchable. Last thought, as i’m pissed and irritated. Lamont Wade is useless. He had 3 good months last year, a horrible last 2 months, and can’t buy a hit. Painful to watch..
Also a sad day Vin Scully passing. As a bay area guy who loves the Giants..when I 1st moved to LA area in 85, before the interweb and a million cable channels.. Baseball started for me listening to Scully in spring training. I loved his voice, his love of the game, his childhood love of the Giants, and that baseball was finally back after a long winter without.. RIP Vin!
I agree, a fantastic announcer. I liked listening to some of his many stories. A true baseball ambassador.
Who the fuck is this god-awful reliever?
Another dumpster dive I’d pretty much guarantee.
Damn. A life well lived, that’s for sure. Mainly listened to him doing random 49er games.
Sad day for me I had to drive over to Tracy for my best friends wife’s passing it was extremely rough on him and I gave him all the support I could but it’s never going to be enough.Only time will help the most I believe.
Then to find out the Giants did nothing on trades except Ruf for JD Davis , made this day even worse!!
