A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

McCullers Sucked

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on November 2, 2022

Another interesting move by Dusty to let his pitcher give up 5 (FIVE!) bombs before pulling him. They say McCullers was tipping his pitches. If that’s true I would think the Astros would have noticed that as well and told him about it.

Two studs squaring off tonight, should be a great game–and nearly must win for Houston.

Oh Dusty. Glad I did not watch that game but seems obvious if he was not tipping his pitches the Phillies thought he was and then was crushing them. How can Dusty with getting the extra day not yank McCullers after the second home run???

fwiw, Nats 2b Darren Baker hit .280 across 2 levels of minor league ball (High A/AA) in first full season with slash line of .343/.365 for .708 OPS. Stole 15 bags in 20 attempts. Currently in AZ Fall League.

Nice obit story in Athletic on John McVay, former Niners GM who died yesterday at 91. Co architect of Niners dynasty, and lot of good things said by likes of Carmen Policy and Eddie D for skill as talent evaluator and keeper of harmony btw Walsh and rest of mgmt.

NYG fans probably remember him for just one play…

Yep, how he wound up in SF in first place. In obit story what came out is his O co-ordinator called the handoff, not McVay, who took the heat for Herm Edwards TD.

Wille, yep, guy named Bob Gibson was the Giants’ OC who called the play.

Interested to watch Ja Morant and Memphis on ESPN game tonight. Warriors Jordan Poole got called 3 times for carrying ball last night. Anthony Slater (best NBA writer by far) showed clips on twitter of each, and throughout the thread fans were talking about how Ja does same thing, as do lot of guards. League had emailed teams this was to be new point of emphasis, so let’s see how consistent it’s called.

In the dozen or so games I’ve seen, Morant palms the ball and/or takes at least 3 steps most times he drives to the basket. To my eye, his moves have seemed more blatantly illegal than Poole’s.

Exactly. One of twitter vids I saw I thought he took like 3 steps with ball in his hand.

NBA players have been palming the ball outrageously for years, with no calls. That’s how their “handle” is so good. Why all of a sudden call it now?…

it’s stupid. This is just gonna slow games down and dull offense.

      • James's avatar James said, on November 2, 2022 at 7:09 pm

That’s assuming the players don’t adjust. It is possible to make plays inside without walking. Curry plays cleanly when he attacks the basket inside. The Irvings, Morants, and Leonards and their walks to the basket are the bane of the sport, not the 3 point shot, IMO.

Castellanos just embarrasses himself on any ball that breaks. LOL. How did he get out of A ball swinging at shit like this over and over and over and over……

Because, like Pablo, he gets a hit often enough on a pitch out of the zone to maintain respectable stats. One of these days, stupid hitters won’t succeed. Some of us will cheer progress …

Javier is a more talented variation on the Chris Young phenomenon. He’d throw 90 mph up in the strike zone and nobody would hit it.

    This century’s version of a pitching masterpiece, a combined 4 pitcher no hitter. Yawn . . .

    A no-no. 5 homers to 0 hits.
