A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Speechless

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 25, 2024

I didn’t want to overstate it but I texted my buddy dafingaZ last night wondering if that was…the best….baseball….game…..I’ve ever……seen? Considering just regular season games and not considering implications of the win (like it didn’t send them to the post season or win them a World Series).

Think about it carefully and weigh in. I know recency bias is in play here but have you ever seen a better SF Giants baseball game in your life?

Didn’t realize that was Jackson in the 9th, and WTF with Lucky?

On the radio, Miller blamed the error on Luciano. Watching the 9th now and Flem blemed the feed from Estrada. Still and all, weird defense around Lucky late.

Chapman brushing off Wisely like a fly on the mound was pretty funny.

Saw the Who and the Clash in 1982 for the Who’s It’s Hard tour. Fantastic show. Wish I could find the pics I took.

39 years ago, at the fed building/courthouse in SF, I got arrested (and soon thereafter convicted) for protesting the USA contra war against the Sandinistas. I’d spent all of January in Nicaragua. Never really liked that Clash album, tho. Earlier Clash was the best. This is one of the top five covers of all time.imo. https://youtu.be/z1n7Ll1-pK4?feature=shared

I like where Big Audio Dynamite went, but their early stuff was great. Sandanista is all over the place but it sowed the seeds for Mick Taylor and Jo Strummer going their separate ways.

    Another cool cover.

some car company used that cover in a tv ad. GM sure as shit never used Brand New Cadillac.

      post Clash Strummer tried.

I remember listening to Earthquake Weather quite a bit, at the time.

Can Luciano take about 300 ground balls before the game tomorrow?

Haliburton has a hamstring injury; that series is over.

A more interesting basketball game tonight, IMO, is Indy vs. Las Vegas in the WNBA. Clark’s team continues to improve. And it’s kind of hilarious reading some of the sniping from WNBA veterans who are jealous of her stardom. Barkley was right: they should just be grateful for how she’s brought attention and money to their previously anonymous league.

I didn’t watch hardly any of her college career. She’s an interesting player. She likes to push the ball quickly up the court. I like the fast tempo. It’s not boring to watch.

The game is on the NBA network tonight.

I watched about half of the game they won vs. Cameron Brink’s LA team. The Indy team played good enough D to win in second half allowing 17 fewer points than in first half. tonight they gave up 99 and got smoked by Champs. Clark had 2 hoops in 29 minutes 7 assists 6 turnovers. She has lot to adjust to at this level vs. experienced and more physical defenders and her team isn’t very good.

Brink was having good game and then undid by picking up quick fouls (5 in 26 minutes) same stuff that routinely plagued her 4 year college career. Bill Russell said he didn’t need to block every shot and didn’t try to, only to put it in mind of players that he might. Brink hasn’t gotten the message, yet.

That was a tough toss from Estrada to Luciano. An offline rocket from a few feet away. I’m with Flemming that the error should have gone to Estrada.

Gotta disagree, Zum, although I only saw one replay. I thought it was ridiculous how quickly he took his eyes off the ball…

Las Vegas won the WNBA championship last season. Who knew? When was the championship? Who knew? Such an anonymous league until this season.

DirecTV still doesn’t include WNBA scores in their scores update feature that has all the major men’s sports. It did have some women’s college scores during that season.

I missed the Clash in concert, but I did travel the 90 miles to San Francisco many years later just to watch a Joe Strummer documentary in a Mission District movie theater. That was a fun day. I also went to a really cool bookstore and visited some other cool places.

        Yes! Cool theater.

Reds defeated the Dodgers 3-1. That is groovy.

    • djloo27 said, on May 25, 2024 at 7:05 pm

I’ll bet you didn’t know this (from Wikipedia):

Groovy (1983–2006) was an American Thoroughbred Champion sprint racehorse known for his love of jelly donuts.

      • zumiee said, on May 25, 2024 at 7:11 pm

        I did not!

Groovy, far-out, and oh wow, would have made a great trifecta.

        2 t’s and we’re good, Xoot…

        That’d look better in print.

I forgot just how much I enjoyed the old Earl Stanley Gardner Perry Mason books. They were one of my favorites when I was a kid.

    • zumiee said, on May 25, 2024 at 7:46 pm

I read some of those. They were good, and not as lurid as the book covers promised.

I recently heard a TV news pundit say that “Perry Mason moments in court only happen for Perry Mason.” Yeah, witnesses blurting out confessions in court don’t really happen.

      • Winder said, on May 25, 2024 at 8:40 pm

No but it makes for good tv.

      • xoot said, on May 25, 2024 at 9:02 pm

I watched the last two days of a criminal trial in Anchorage. The final witness was a guy who testified that he alone committed the crime. Jury quickly convicted the defendant. Afterward, the judge laughed, “so much for the Perry Mason moment.”

You would’ve enjoyed the Shawshank Library when old Brooks Hatlen was running the show with his pet crow, Jake…

    • willedav said, on May 25, 2024 at 8:35 pm

Still good. I think my local county lib has collection of tales ESG wrote for Black Mask, as did Dashiell Hammett.

The Giants are now a half game out from the 5th playoff spot.

    • djloo27 said, on May 25, 2024 at 8:41 pm

I had no idea how many playoff spots there are…

“Sometimes after work, I go to the park and feed the birds. I keep thinking Jake might just show up and say hello, but he never does. I hope wherever he is, he’s doin’ okay and makin’ new friends.”

The organ player at the D-Backs game played a little bit of the Violent Femmes’ “Blister in the Sun.” I hear it often from ballpark organists. It’s not as ubiquitous as White Stripes’ ” Seven Nation Army,” but is heard a fair amount. Both songs have become sports music classics. I’m sure the songwriters get compensation. Maybe a lot of money.

It’s all part of the team’s standard bmi and ascap licenses.

So, Kansas Joe McCoy doesn’t get any coin when Yaz comes to bat? I guess statute of limitations and all.

    • xoot said, on May 25, 2024 at 10:17 pm

that’s the whole point of the consolidated licenses. All the copyright holders get paid. I forget how they monitor play and pay out royalties. Systems been around for a long time.

    • willedav said, on May 25, 2024 at 10:23 pm

I think Loo is right, Yaz seems to do just barely enough to squeak by and stay on team. Was in awful slump again vs. Pirates then all of a sudden hits HR and 3 bases loaded triple and climbs out of it. didn’t see much of game today but caught Flems on radio.
