Way to go Pat.Giving love to the flap! And i love your Finger wave POTG.Sure would have been special if that was yesterday in your Giants uniform after your HR looking into the Dodgers dug out!
First Twin, great post. Why it is worth having you around on the blog. Keep that shit up.
Jed, I am definitely not a Sabean fan, but for the analysts to suggest we are trade losers is a simple minded way to look at the game and these are the so-called experts making a ton of dough and they don’t know shit.
We were 17-5 leading up to the dadline. We were what 7 games out a month ago and in 4th place. If Olney or
Kurkjian did not carry a bias, it is obvious the Giants are trending way up and the Padres starting to show they are not world-beaters. For Olney to suggest that the Padres are going to walk away with the tie reveals a myopic biased mind.
I probably agree that we don’t have the prospects to pull off a big deal, which is why it would have required a JSanchez or Bum to make a deal. If we had done so, it may have blown up in our face if Bum has to be kept on an inning count and then we would be stuck with Wellemeyer or worse.
It is the off-season to look again at a Sanchez for Uggla trade or Cain for Fielder…but Sabean played it exactly right and why the Giants are in fact the biggest winner in this year’s trade deadline.
I was not dissing Burrell’s HR, just putting it in context. Another difference, didn’t make it less exciting:: unlike BJ’s, there was no build up, no suspense, I doubt anyone expected Pat’s shot. In fact, if you check out the dugout reaction, the guys didn’t either. It woke up about 300,024people…
Sabean put it well, they’ve moved on from the Bowker Gang. Joe was part of that generation, as well. They think they have guys in the lower minors with more upside. John and Joe should both get a chance to show if they have it with the Buccos. Many fans do not understand that it’s a GOOD thing if our guys do well elsewhere ( as long as we get what’s expected on our end). Alderson flopping so far has not been a good thing overall. We kinda want other teams salivating over our prospects. “Here comes Sabes with another dud” is not the word they want out there…
As many here, I too was at the BJ and Joe Morgan games (that game I was totally playing hooky from work and even ducked when a cameraman came by to interview people playing hooky). What would have been my favorite HR was the three ruin HR to tie the Mets in the 2000 Playoffs by JT. Man that homer went from complete elation to depression in what seemed like three seconds.
Going to 25 – 30 games a year at the Stick and another 40 – 60 at Pac Bell (2002 was the 60, my wife and I separated the next year – go fig), many, many memories, both good and bad. 1989 I started at ST and ended after the earthquake.
This year, for the first time in over 30 years. I might not see one Giant game live. And, I hope, more that anything, that it’s the greatest year (for the Giants and memories for the folks that do make it out to the yard) EVER.
Flavor – Autograph carries the nostalgic wonder of being a kid at bat day. Fantastic.
WSW – Dissing Sabean revisionists more than farm teams. Just ain’t all that.
GH – Wasn’t Sanchez for Uggla rumored in 2009 … when he had lower value?
Twin – Totally agree re moving on. Most 28 yr. olds get pushed off 40-man roster, no? So SF gets a rental for two guys who might soon be free agents anyway. Big deal.
JBat – In addition to remarks from others, BJ homer capped off an incredible beginning to end game. Probably the best I’ve attended (missed the Ivie GS, though made it to both Game 5s). Had it all, including all the broader contexts.
Primary hurdle to Sanchez-for-Bat scenarios is the absence of Sabean’s pipeline of young, replacement arms. Continues to be an enormous myth of this fanbase. Assist Baer. So, understandably, SF freezes up at trade time. Not cause for praise.
And any suggestion that Sabean earned a medal for not making another crappy deal just shows how low we’ve set the bar. Weak.
With this being the Sunday night game, another big HR that comes to mind was in 2000 when Benard hit a dinger in the 9th to beat LA, also on a Sunday night. That was in early July and pretty much launched the Giants to an incredible second-half run that year.
Flav . . . Instead of this grey boring background on the blog, is it possible to use the autograph as a background? Or, having the Giants logo enlarged would work too (although the Giants would probably sue One Flap Down for copyright infringement. Ha.).
Blade– yes it is possible. But it’s complicated. The guy I had doing it (he has to work the HTML through something called a Css feed (or something like ghat) graduated from high school and has left the area for the summer. Buzkill. I’ve been meaning to find someone else, might get on it this week
Sweet Miller is on the t.v. broadcast. I was dreading another nationally televised game of ‘this giants club has plenty of pitching but but just no offense’ as their most keen insight.
I might be off base but I think Morgan is wrong. Pitchers have always tried to let Pablo get himself out. Last yr it didn’t work but this year it’s working. I don’t think in 2o10 the pitchers all of a sudden decided not to throw him strikes anymore
Unreal. Walking rowand to get to renteria and then he pitches to him with Cain on deck. Torre is an idiot for falling for that Ray deek. No way bochy goes to bullpen in 7th with Wilson still iffy and Cain pitching lights out
If you’re Torre you have to force Bochy’s hand there. Terrible decision to pitch to Rent, but thank you. No way Bochy was going to PH for Matt in the 6th
Morgan clearly doesn’t like doing these games with Hersey. He goes after him at least twice a game…usually, he loses, but he was right in this instance….
They were up 2-0 it’s fine to take the bat out at that point. He could only hurt them from then on. It’s “hold on and win” time when it’s 2-0 in the last couple innings
Another biscuit by hershey. Yapping about his record of 0-8 without checking his underlying stats. If Cain gets out of this inn his era vs the dodgers will be lower than his lifetime era. And yet he’s 0 and fuckjng 8
Nice to see row/rent bringjng it today. They’ve played well lately. Since they aren’t going anymore we need this from them and really should be grateful that they can still produce on occasion
There we go….
awfully cool…what did he sign on?
GH– I’m not really sure what that is, Chris hasn’t given it to me yet.

Very Kewl…

Yes that’s true, always wish good things for former players.
Now I can see the autograph.

Supposed to be three run HR not three ruin HR – well given the outcome…

Josh Johnson must not like pitching in California.
That autograph signs, seals and delivers a great game. Thanks for sharing it. It’s like he gave all of us a nod. Thanks, Pat!

ESPN Sunday night, I hardly ever bother. Tonight I bother. Sweep it up, boys.
what thread are you guys using during the game to bitch?
Nice f-bomb there . . .
123
Howzabout a laugher???
Who’s the other guy talking?
Hersheiser?
Sweet Miller is on the t.v. broadcast. I was dreading another nationally televised game of ‘this giants club has plenty of pitching but but just no offense’ as their most keen insight.
Yeah, but Morgan and Hersheiser are there . . .
The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!
Ah, Russ Hodges. Greatest call ever.
Serious pitchers duel going on right now.
The newest fan of the flap, blasting a ball off the wall. Nice. We’ve got a burrell hot spell going on right now, ride it…
I might be off base but I think Morgan is wrong. Pitchers have always tried to let Pablo get himself out. Last yr it didn’t work but this year it’s working. I don’t think in 2o10 the pitchers all of a sudden decided not to throw him strikes anymore
Oh yeah, Renteria!
Yeah baby! Take that fuckers!
Fuck. Yeah. Walking Rowand to bring up Renteria didn’t seem like the best decision.
You have to love the backfire ….Rent
Unreal. Walking rowand to get to renteria and then he pitches to him with Cain on deck. Torre is an idiot for falling for that Ray deek. No way bochy goes to bullpen in 7th with Wilson still iffy and Cain pitching lights out
Okay, Matt, here it is. It’s yours to win.
If you’re Torre you have to force Bochy’s hand there. Terrible decision to pitch to Rent, but thank you. No way Bochy was going to PH for Matt in the 6th
Didn’t see Flavor’s post. We agree.
Cainer!!
great shut down inning…
Is Wilson not good for tonight?
Oh yeah Blake take a bite out of that sombrero!
Yep. Torre was absolute played like a fiddle there….
Bochy told Jon Miller during the in-game dugout interview Wilson’s good to go. We’ll see.
Actually Torre didn’t want to give up a run by pitching to Rowand at 2-0 with a fastball. It cost him 2 runs instead…
On the pregame show bochy said he wasn’t going to listen to Wilson, only the trainers. Good on him..
If Willie is a go, you figure Matt in the eighth, then BW in the ninth. Cain has to be near 100 pitches right now.
He’s at 110
Morgan clearly doesn’t like doing these games with Hersey. He goes after him at least twice a game…usually, he loses, but he was right in this instance….
Atta kid, Huff. Smoked that double. C’mon Buster.
We’ll see, but I’d rather have Pat up anyway.
Shit, Burrell got replaced by nate just a bit too soon.
Oops, forgot he was out. Send me to the box.
Morgan is highly irritating a lot of the time, but he grew up a Giants fan and you can hear that sometimes.
Damn, another run would have been nice there.
espn doesn’t give much time for who’s warming up in the BP updates, huh? fuckers. Cain’s at 110. Wilson’s polishing his orange shoes.
They were up 2-0 it’s fine to take the bat out at that point. He could only hurt them from then on. It’s “hold on and win” time when it’s 2-0 in the last couple innings
And I thot Nate was gonna get a hit there. Kershaw was on fumes….
Cain has had all of his pitches working tonight.
Nice play Panda!
Man it’s fun watching a pitcher when he has it all going.
Fuck
Great start Matt.
Another biscuit by hershey. Yapping about his record of 0-8 without checking his underlying stats. If Cain gets out of this inn his era vs the dodgers will be lower than his lifetime era. And yet he’s 0 and fuckjng 8
Damn. Wanted him to get through the 8th.
Great effort obviously by Cain…Okay here’s are new guy against their new guy.
Great Pitching by Matt! Well it’s time to see if the new guy Lopez can impress us.
Tough spot for newbie. Hrs never seen this shit before, throw strikes fucker
LOOGY!
great 1st impression
Nice first impression!
That’ll work. Well done cainer… You out pitched kershaw in ways I guess Hershey doesn’t get
First payoff on Saturday’s trade. Situational lefty does it.
All right Willie, get ‘er done.
Nice to see row/rent bringjng it today. They’ve played well lately. Since they aren’t going anymore we need this from them and really should be grateful that they can still produce on occasion
Thanx ryan
Jesus Wilson. That was ball four to Loney.
