Bad Pitching + Bad hitting = Bad Combo
They’ve hit 4 bombs in the last 2 games, that’s nice. But that’s not enough. Way too many “1-4,0-4’s” in the boxscores. And our pitching has come up ant-small so far. Dirrrrty may or may not need to pitch a pearl today–the way he’s been pitching I’d expect a line like 5.1inn/4ER/4BB/7K. Bottom line is, regardless of what Dirrrrty does, we need to HIT the baseball. For hits. Lots of them. Ducks on the pond. Clutch hits. All that jazz….
This has been a horrendous 2 game swing, every facet of the game has been worthy of averting your eyes. But it’s 2 freaking games out of 162. The team isn’t trippin’ on it, you guys shouldn’t either. Join Denny on the ledge if you must, but don’t jump. Yet….
Drawing pitches is one of the primary goals of the 1 hole hitter.. Of COURSE you’d like it to end in a hit or walk. But that doesn’t negate a basic tenet of lead off hitting. Restrain yourself when you have no fucking idea what you’re saying.
Did K&K also spank about Jon’s NL leading 70 walks?
I just responded to the inaccurate remark about his shutdown innings.
Shit, the illegitimate love child of Vern and Vera just got thoroughly robbed.
Ya know what, tough shit ya bastard. Hit the ball harder next time you worthless POS.
Rowand at this minute: At-bats — 298; on-base percentage — .298
I wish I had a put down befitting that stat, but I’m not a professional comedian. Make up your own jokes.
God, what if they were BEHIND 3-0?
Here’s a 3 team blockbuster that works financially and philosophically for all:
Giants get: Hanley Ramirez & Aramis Ramirez
Cubs get: Aaron Rowand & Mark DeRosa
Marlins get: Pablo Sandoval, Jonathan Sanchez, and Kosuke Fukudome
Geez, who’s the Cub GM? OldSealsFan?
That trade would make Cubs fans forget Bartman, and I would kiss Sabes’ ass…
You got that right, Snarkkles.
There’s some validity to what Jediot and his girls say: if Sabes had made all the right decisions with free agents, the team would be 90-31 and coming off a WS championship.
yeah but his mouth would be incredibly sore from blowing the entire league to get the needed players!
Nah. If Sabean added ONE good hitter in 2008 or 2009, they might have crawled into the playoffs last year and scared some teams with the staff.
I assume you’re taking back all your DePodesta digs and kissing his feet now as the greatest front office man ever, right?
Two good signs. Burrell got a walk and Rollins made an out
Victorino played that like Victor Buono…
Loved him as King Tut on Batman.
. . . and who can forget his first network TV appearance playing the bearded poet Bongo Benny in an episode of 77 Sunset Strip.
He couldn’t catch that one…
“I assume you’re taking back all your DePodesta digs..”
Huh? Who are you talking to? Until now, I have never mentioned DePodesta in a post. Or criticized the Pad’s FO…
So, you haven’t shit all over Beane & DePo re A’s, DePo re LAD? My mistake.
I’ve criticized Beane’s moves over the last couple years. Hard to argue they’ve been his best…
But why don’t you spell out what you’re talking about? It will give one of us an idea of what it is.
Cubs GM Hendry would have to go into the witness protection program LOO if he made that trade.
Loo’s trades are a hoot. Somebody always gets royally screwed. Rowand and DeRosa could’t land safely in Chicago after that one. O’Hare would be on bomb scare lockdown for a month.
Nothing can bring warring factions together better than a Loo trade proposal. What say we send him to meet with Karzai?
Okay…Sandoval
Pablo!!! HR And a R/H hitting blast.Great sign if he can start hitting from that side.
The lucky fat bastard ran into one. “Have another donut.”
That’s the same as one RBI, at least…
Interesting stat. Hamels jsut raised his ERA to exactly Sanchez’s
Sanchez vs. Phils has been better than Hamels vs. Giants. I pointed that out a couple nights ago.
Referring to Rowand’s great play.
That was the luckiest catch I’ve ever seen in my life. Torres has that one in his back pocket.
Jesus, dennis. Is this some kind of reverse mojo thing you’re doing?
I like it…
Interesting stat. Sanchez’ ERA is now .02 lower than Hamels’
Dirty is better than Hamels. No surprise.
Didn’t the same ball give Victorino an owie?
How about that play the fan made .Coming back to his seat, fries, drinks, in tray and lands a baseball. That the best way ever to go back to your seat.Awesome baby!
That was the neatest thing I’ve seen in a while…
If they win this with their two MVPs having the day off, it matters exactly ZERO what their replacements did. It’s all good.
And that’s exactly what their replacements did, ZERO. But, hey, it’s all good.
Wilson needs an inning no matter what.
Can’t find it now but one of the great sports photos of all time shows a fan leaning over the railing… with glove, beer, popcorn, and baseball all descending beneath his outstretched hands…
That Coal Hammulls guy was just what they needed.
Sanchez’ strong outing only reinforces his erratic reputation.
I was hoping for a bad one to maintain some consistency.
5-0, very nice, and Dirrrty is pitching a *pearl*. Score 5 more runs if you can. This lead isn’t enough…….
!
Whatever studio exec that gave the go ahead on Piranha3D probably thought starting Rowand tonight would garner Bochy a Flapper nomination for Best Managerial Move in a Leading Role adapted from an Original Lineup.
I can’t see the game up here but those 2 hits from Franchez are encouraging, hope they weren’t of the bleeder-bullshit variety. Did they travel further than 200 feet? That’s the outer reaches of his power these days so if they exceeded that we might be seeing something encouraging from him. Anyone want to guess at the distances those 2 hits traveled for me?
Pablo bomb, excellent……
DiMaggio’s bobblehead looks like Freddy Sanchez.
If there was a reliable formula to subtract BA points or RBIs when errors in the field cost runs, it might make it easier for Room B to understand this game…
To answer the Fruckie question, two humpbacks to LF, not hit hard but legit. 480 feet between them.
Actually, the only thing this Sanchez outing proves is that he can’t do it w/o Whitey.
It proves that the absurdly maligned 4th starter was a motherfucking stud just when they needed it, THAT is what it proves.
I’m with you on that, of course.
I’ll give ya 100-1 that Whitey catches him next start no matter what tonight proved.
Another win w/ Rowand starting, what is that now 12-5? Using that logic he should start at least 2 of 3 in St. Louis. I’ll mark him down in my lineup card.
His last win was 6 inn 3 h 4 w 9 k with Posey C…
in Colo..
Yes, I think the Posey “controversy” is a red herring.
Anyway, there can no disagreement on this: he has been fabulous tonight against a hot ,good hitting club in their bandbox. Outstanding, Dirty.
Agreed. Maybe the biggest pitching performance of the year, considering the circumstances and the time of the year….
of course he dropped it intentionally
Way to dog it down to first Panda.
That fat fucking sophomore year jinx sucking POS should be fined, thendrawn and quartered for that trick. Run you fat bastard, you might lose a pound or two. Nice hustle.
Thanks twin. Who knows, if Freddy can somehow get it going that could be the kickstart we need. He’s a freaking batting champion fer goddsakkes! Haha. I’d love to see a list of the last 15 batting champions in the nl and see who frddy’s company is…..
First Panda doesn’t run it out, then he whiffs catching that line drive that hits his glove. He got the dinger, that’s cool. But, he’s gotta get his whole game together. I would have let Sanchez try to finish the second hitter off, he’s only thrown around 100 pitches…
Nice pitching by Romo there. You know he’s takin 2-0 down 5 and he came in and threw strikes.Great job!
Freddy winning a batting title was like Lil E Tee winning the Derby.
Local (for me) and fan fav Casual Lies almost pulled that shit off. “Stanley” was his nickname if I recall. I of course bought into the Arazi hype that yr. Sucker….
Shit, Flav. The little bastard has been hitting, if you can call hitting the ball 200 ft. hitting, all yr. vs lefties. His OPS is .814 vs southpaws. Doesn’t make up for his .591 vs right-handers, but it’s at least something positive from him offensively this yr. He should bat strictly vs the lefties. But then we lose his glove. We need a new SS and 2B for next yr.
With the beard, not sure whether Romo looks more like Fidel Castro or Amenhotep I. I do think Fidel had a better arm than the Pharaoh …
T-O-R……………………….
See how much more comfortable this is not relying on two stinkin’ runs to eek out a win. C’mon.
Congrats…
A Dirrrrrrrrrty job well done!
The kind of performance by Dirrty could inspire the SP…See if Bum can follow up.
Countdown to woo-hoo!!!!….5-4-3-2-1….
A little more drama than asked for… but I’ll designate myself poster of the day for being the only one to call the win. That will be nothing compared to my Blogger of the Decade honors but a nice fillip.
Well, it was 6-2 in my dream. 5-2 in reality . . .
I’ll take it. . . .
It NEVER fails: I bitch about the lineup; I bitch about Bochy; I bitch about Rowand and we win.
Y’all can thank the king sumbitch later. Enjoy for a bit and get ready for ARF.
I’m glad I was wrong on Sanchez, I figured him for another meltdown before 6 against a hot hitting squad. It really helps his psyche to get that early lead. Nice game all around, helps with a head of steam headed for St. Louis, and keeps Philly close in the WC…
Huuuuuuuggggggggggeeeeeeee WIIIINNNN!!!!!!!! 7 back would have really sucked.Sanchez delivers.Fuck when’s the last time he’s ever went into the 9 th under 100 Pitches???
Unfortunately, it’s 7 in the loss column.
Chuck, quit dreaming about 6-2 Giants victories and concentrate on Alex Smith completing a 5 yd. dump-off pass to Westbrook on 3rd and 4. He needs your help.
3rd and 10 after one underthrow and one overthrow, more like it…
Tallk about Smith on a football blog or I’ll kick your fucking asses over there.
I don’t think anything else but such a strong starting performance could have given the Giants (OK, maybe just the fans) a bigger boost. That was the biggest concern, I think, and it has been and will be the key to making the playoffs. They pitch, they win. Because, really, what options does the offense have?
Anyway, a big sigh of relief for some. I trust Bum will put in a good effort and it’s back to Did I Talk to Dad Yet.
The post season is all that matters. They are one out, not 6. Not 7.
I’m serious so fucking listen up: this blog gets negative enough with baseball shit. Turn this into Alex Smith bashing and I guarantee Flavor wil be deleting posts 24/7. SFGate has the Insider and Chuckles has a football blog. Leave it alone here.
Give it a rest. Flav can delete the odd post about your pet Niner if he wants. Let him handle it, nobody appointed you majordomo…
Bout time. After that meltdown against the Padres, i felt the need for some time off from the blog and not much time following the team, deciding to hold off on commenting till there was a W.
So Drrrrty was the one to snap the schneid. Good job. That bottom of the 7th was particularly impressive with just a handful of pitches thrown. Romo did not pick the worst possible time to be erratic, but it did ruin the shutout. Oh well, the victory was and is what counts. A loss tonight would have pretty well done in the Giants for the season. Winning means the WC is still in play, though by now it may be a bit of a stretch to hope for a meltdown by the Dagos. Between their BP and their lucky charms, they just keep on winning somehow.
Can the rest of the starters pick it up from Sanchez’ superb performance tonight? To have any kinda chance that has to happen. Otherwise, tonight’s big win was just an outlier. Anyway, it was one outta three against a sizzling Phillies team and now its off to St. Louis against a team which, like the Giants has had ups and downs lately. Hoping the rests for Torres and Huff helps bring them around. It sure would be nice to see the offense hitting on more than a couple cylinders.
Still 7 left with SD. After Wednesday (Reds), none left with the other WC contenders.
I gave Rohand too much credit before the game. I had him at 1-4, with one K. He was 0-4, with two Ks. Although both Ks were no doubt extemely instructive to the squad…
Eat shit, he also saved at least one run in the OF.
Damn right…Nobody out at the time with a runner on
Big win and all this fuck has is Rowand and Sandoval ? And the Niner QB???!!! What does it take to enjoy a win?
Well it’s kind of amusing to say he ignited a 3 run rally by striking out.
Nice, Loo. You have a good handle on absurdity…
No, a good handle on lying. I never said that.
Proving tonight that is not the hitting we need to worry about. Once we got a frickin great start our O did what they had to do.
Pray Franchez can keep performing in the 2-hole so Posey can then stay hitting third instead of Huff.
I would try Panda 5th to break up righty-righty with Burrell and Guillen and Guillen is swinging very well.
Still think SD has a 2-8 stretch in ’em somewhere…
“Well it’s kind of amusing to say he ignited a 3 run rally by striking out.”
That’s not what I said, fuck. Don’t lie. I said that drawing pitches was instructive for the other hitters. Argue that with K and K and the many other baseball people who know that taking pitches is crucial for the lead off hitter. It’s not even an arguable point.
Can I say again that I like Guillen, like I did last night? Or that Sabes did well to get him, since he cost virtually nada? Or, am I not allowed to say that by the thought police?…
Snarkk, I caught a lot of grief when I threw Guillen’s name out in June as a potential acquisition. I thought he was hitting enough dingers to justify picking him up. We should have had him though for the Atlanta and the San Diego series. Those may have played out differently with him.
