At What End of the Rotation are We at Right Now?
Dirrrrty saved us yesterday and now we turn to MadBum for another necessary step-up stud performance. This Dirrrrty/Bum exacta feels preferable to a Lincecum/Cain debacle, doesn’t it? Not sure where Zito fits in, he’s a shaky 3, I guess. We don’t really have a NUMERO UNO these days, as is evidenced by the starting staffs stunning failure to ever notch a win for themselves. Dirrrrty is the only guy to “stand out” in the win column with his bounty of two over the last 3 weeks. That’s freaking pathetic…..
This is a dangerous time for the team with the starting pitching laboring on the edge of unreliable and marginally competent. But Dirrrrty’s performance last night can’t be understated. It was huge, maybe the best start of the year for one of those 5…….
I thought we matched up well with Philly but they easily took 2 from us. I feel the same way about St Louis, I think we match up well with them. Regardless of what happens tonight, the spotlight will be squarely on Timmy tomorrow. We can’t win this thing without a #1 to carry us the rest of the year. Dirrrrty isn’t a #1, despite his 2 (two) victories over the last 17 days. Mr Cy Young is that guy. Or maybe he’s not, we’ll find out soon enough…….
So much angst on the blog . . . I went to Breckenridge yesterday and did some mountain biking (slopes are used for that when they are sans snow . . . definitely not as smooth), then had an early dinner at one of their fine restaurants. When I got home, the G-Men were well on their way to another win.
Consequently, I tend to side with what Flav stated the other day, i.e., “But it’s 2 freaking games out of 162.” Suggest you guys have some fun today prior to putting on your “game face” this evening. 🙂
Blade, I’m in bend ore doing similar things. I don’t know if it’s the river or the mountain air or whatever, but this city boy is in a much more tolerant mood when I get my fill of the great outdoors for a few weeks a year….
Why is it that a starter struggles and the bull pen is outstanding and just the reverse when a start comes in pitches and gem and then the bullpen blows it. What the fuck is Romo’s problem, pitches great ball for two or three games and them pitches like shit!! This is one of the few problems I have with Bochy, he does not appear to know when to yank a pitcher!! Romo should have been pulled before giving up the two runs. If that had been the normal Giants game where they only score 1-2 runs that game would have been lost or tied!!
Agreed, Blade. Cards swept Reds and then went into a tailspin, losing 4 in a row, to fall 3 and a half behind Cincy. Even Wainwright got out pitched.
Guillen has some hits so far…but remember how well FS, Nate and even Whitey started, too. All these guys were way over .300. I’d rather see more of Ishi with Burrell Torres Huff, at least vs. RHP.
Shout out to SanDog: Indians signed Kyle Blair, the Aztec Ace from Los Gatos, who was 4th round pick I believe.
But Guillen has 16 of his 17 hrs against RH pitching.
“pitches great ball for two or three games . . . ” I think Romo’s been quite good for more than 2 or 3 games. He may even be due to give up another HR, now that his stats have evened out from early in the season, when he was subject to criticisms that ignored his track record.
Other than the double, Romo did just fine and has been consistent since May. He got Polanco after inheritiing a 2-0 count, Utley’s ball barely gets by Sanchez and he struck out Werth.
Romo’s fine. It’s on the starters to get their collective shit togtether.
Besides, they needed to get B-Weezy some work . . .
test
Dirty is a remarkable character. He can be maddening with his wildness, walks,HBP,and the like. How often have you thought “typical lefty space cadet” when watching him? He seems to have his own Sanchez channel that he’s tuned to,and often appears clueless about game situations and events. His verbal assault on the Padres was such an odd outburst because it was the last thing any of us would expect from him.
Last year he threw a no-hitter after he was threatened with Demotion! We all know he has real-deal swing-through stuff, and we’ve seen him mow people down with efficiency that even Timmy can’t match. He comes up with these remarkable performances that get us scratching our heads and thinking”did i really say we should trade this guy? It’s a wild ,wild ride with the former Ohio Dominican Panther isn’t it?
Huh. I thought I got blocked. 2 of my posts didn’t go through.
Anyway, Flav, you’re in Bend, OR.?? My mom grew up there. One of her best memories is when Kirk Douglas decided to film THE INDIAN FIGHTER up there and hired the whole poulace as extras. She said he took the time to chat for at least 15 minutes or so with everyone for the whole shoot. She had a blast. Not a great movie but entertaining enough. You should rent it when you get back to see how the place has changed, if at all. And a great cast. Walter Mathau, Elsa Martinelli, Lon Chaney Jr., Elisha Cook Jr., Walter Abel…
Hey Ted, have anything to say about Bend, Oregon? 🙂
retest
What’s up Ted ?
hey ted, you’ve had three posts end up in my spam filter and I’m not sure why. I’ll check to see if you’ve used some banned words or something. You haven’t been banned dude!
I made this money, you didn’t. Right Ted?
We outta here…
just ruminating on our opening day OF line up: DeRosa, Rowand, Bowker….Lots of things change over the course of 162 games……
For the better, too. I laugh about those radio ads sporting DeRosa, and Ralph/Tom interviewing him once in a while. Riveting radio to hear about the pace of rehab. I’d rather hear about how he’s spending $6 million for doing nothing…
Your ruminating is illuminating.
I have no idea why “Bend” or “Bend Oregon” is sending comments to the moderator box but it is. So, try to find a way to not work that into your discussions today and you’ll probably be ok, lol…..
Get bent.
I just sent all ted’s comments about Bend through at once, sorry about that. I’m going to delete 2 of them and then I am off to the lake to catch us some frogs and such. later…..
Barbecuing?
Aw, come on — how often do you get to Eilisha Cook, Jr.’s name repeated over and over and over and over . . . .?
I guess I can’t recount my tales of the trouble I got into in Bendover, NV . . .
You go into a place called Bendover, I think you’re just asking for trouble.
It’s actually Wendover, and the reason it’s such a weird place is it’s right on the border between Nev and Utah, so all the Mormons go there to get weird. They follow all the rules in Utah, but what happens in Wendover, stays in Wendover.
What happened was, I was driving back to California with my roomate, and, while driving, the electrical system was systematically shutting down as we drove. It was 2:30 am. Miracle of miracles, we hit Wendover, and saw a gas station. My friend didn’t stop at the stop sign for fear of stalling completely, and ran it to get to the gas station. Of course there was a cop right there to see this. After explaining the situation, he checked my friend’s ID. It ws an expired Hawaiian license. So, he went on a merry trip to the local jail. I meanwhile found out that the alternator bracket was busted. They didn’t an alternator bracket for a beat-up 73 Audi Turdball at the gas station. After much trial and error, I jerry rigged about 8′ of wire into a loop harness, stuck a wrench in the wire loop, and turned it like those old balsa wood propeller planes. After I got it good and tight, I wedged the wrench into the radiator. This took about an hour, and when the judge took all my firend’s money ($220), the cop dropped him back off at the gas station.
Worked like a charm, and we made it to Santa Cruz . . .
One word of note on Romo, his strikeout pitch of Werth was brilliant and he was ahead of Sweeney for the third out and let him get away. If it was 1-2 run game, Bochy would not have had him in there and BWilson would have been brought in for the save as he did last night after the double.
But I also wanted to pass on a story linking a friend’s death (I just returned from his funeral) that ESPN ran last week while I was on vacation. The reason I bring it to this crew’s attention is that his son is a starting offensive lineman for Standford. He was tragically killed in that plane crash in Alaska last Monday with his former boss, Sen. Ted Stevens. He was a fantastic person that you all would have fit right in with.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5455383
Romo’s been OK lately. But, not for tight situations, as you say. He’s a one trick pony. If he’s on and spotting that slurve, he’s golden, especially with righties — they have to swing after the ump starts giving him strike calls on it. But, if he’s off and the batters are taking it for balls, he’s in trouble because when he has to give in, his fastball is likely to get smoked. And, if the slurve hangs across a good portion of the plate, a good hitter is going to slam it…
Small-plane flying is such a regular part of life in Alaska, you take it for granted, but you also feel a certain solidarity in mourning when a plane goes down. Everyone knows how dangerous it is simply because of the place — the weather, the terrain. Yet everyone flies all over in Cessnas, etc. Pontoons in the summer, for landing on lakes and rivers; skis in the winter, ditto. SOP. Sen. Steven undoubtedly had been flying into the bush with expert pilots his entire life. But the risk is always there. All politics aside, RIP.
Elisha Cook, Jr, Elisha Cook Jr, Elisha Cook, Jr
Thanks, Flav
The gunsel he so memorably portrayed in The Maltese Falcon would’ve liked Bendover, NV.
So would’ve Joel Cairo
I’m a Giants fan but also a clown. A Dickhead, a Fuckwad and sometimes can be stooopid. Sorry all, I got pissed off and then pissed off at myself for being pissed off. A true pisser. Took a time out and am ready to get back to talking Giants baseball, or my usual nonsense.
Welcome back, and I think I speak for one and all when I say…Fuck you, Bozo! 😀
“when the plane slammed into a mountain with such force that it left a 300-foot gash on the slope.”
How the hell did 4 people survive?
You can apply your analysis of Romo to any number of ptichers, Snarkk. You could substitute Lincecum’s name and the pitches, and you wouldn’t be far off base this year. Been ok lately? Romo has the best numbers on the staff.
So, Lincecum, Cain, Dirrty are one trick ponies? Are you high? If Romo doesn’t have the slurve spotted, he’s toast, that’s all he’s got…
Re; Romo
His stats match up pretty fucking well with anyone’s. Career WHIP is less than 1, ERA is 2.68, 126K’s in 117 innings..
Any pitcher will get whacked if their bread and butter pitch is off. If the splitter doesn’t sink, if the 98 mph fastball is right down the middle, if the curve hangs…any pitcher in the game can be beat.
Thanks, Max, saved me a few keystrokes.
Pretty fucking good one trick pony. Sutter had one pitch and everyone knew it was coming.
Does anybody actually read around here? I said when he’s got his slurve spotted, he’s golden. If you’re comparing Romo to Sutter, a HOFer, you’re high, too…
So, your point is that Romo can’t *really* be trusted because of the style in which he’s achieved those numbers. No one said Romo is as good as Sutter, only that he relied heavily on a single pitch for his success. Kinda like Trevor Hoffman, too.
Does anyone here even like LaRussa in the slightest? Thought not. I hope we kick the shit outta that self-important, highfalutin, egotistical bastard and his Cardinals tonight. ARF this, you asleep-at-the-wheel-Mark McGwiring defend to his death-enabling-co-dependent-I’m smarter than you because I batter the pitcher 8th- lying sack of shit vegetarian.
STFU and go eat a hamburger goddammit!
The guy would have a taste for red meat if he’d ever practised law. But noooo. He gets out of law school and goes back into professional baseball. Moreover, he went to the same fucking law school as Ned Racine. No wonder he took the enjoyable, I mean, easy route. Lazy sack of vegetarian dog shit.
Yet don’t worry. He’ll take his place beside Mack and McGraw in the HOF, but his plaque will forever draw flies.
Westbrook of the Cards just might have the best sinker in the game. With our propensity to hit into DPs, the H&R should be green-lighted from the gitgo.
We just claimed Cody Ross of waivers. I’m guessing it was done to block the Friars. Who do they get to beat tonight, Brewers? LeBlanc vs Gallardo, they win this one and I’ll start to align their rotation for the playoffs.
It’s actually Wendover, and the reason it’s such a weird place is it’s right on the border between Nev and Utah, so all the Mormons go there to get weird. They follow all the rules in Utah, but what happens in Wendover, stays in Wendover.

Sounds like a story premise for one of those buddy movies…
Along those lines, the state with the highest per capita purchase of online porn? Utah…
So it was your buddy who went to “bendover”?
Is that close to BunBoy CA?
So, did Mikie really leave for good this time?
Until either tonight or the urge to call somebody a fuckwad must be slaked, whichever occurs sooner…
The Padres have scored the same number of runs as the Giants in 2 fewer games. Their one strong suit on offense? They are 4th in the league in walks. Their crummy OPS is offset by the OPS+, which tries to account for park factors.
Chuck, after reading your latest excerpt it’s a wonder why you’re not a mechanic for Jimmy Johnson and the #48 Lowe’s Chevy. They could use a good mechanic like you. After each NASCAR race they hold a Hot Wheels competition. You could build the track. And don’t forget the loop, they like loops.
Romo had a rough patch in May-June, but he’s really gotten back to an LAPD beatdown of opp. BA. The oversize cap and brim are a bad fit for him – just doesn’t look “street” on him, like when Randy Messenger costumed himself as an extra from The Wire – but I love seeing opponents waive in embarassment at that whiffleball.
No Rowand at lead off, and what’s with both Font and the little runt. Head scratcher…
Torres cf
Posey c
Huff 1b
Burrell lf
Guillen rf
Sandoval 3b
Fontenot ss
F. Sanchez 2b
Bumgarner p
Uribe just getting a blow, I suspect. Franchez not hitting much screws up the LU re Posey. He shouldn’t be in the 2 hole, but there’s really no other place to put him unless/until Franchez stiffens his wet noodle of a bat. I think Franchez may still have issues with his surgerized knee and/or shoulder, and nobody’s talkin about it…
Somebody help me. Re: Fontenot. Other than maybe Kruk and certainly Madlock, have the Giants ever gotten an ex-Cub that was worth a damn? Probably, but I’m stumped at the moment…
Moises Alou?
Who is Cody Ross?
Glenellen Hill?
Glenallen Hill
Glenollen Hill
OK, thanks on those. I totally forgot Moises, even tho’ he’s more recent. He was pretty good for a while, but then always seemed semi-hurt or on the verge of the DL…
Fontenot plays short tonight?
funny
Rich Rueschel?
Thanks. How could I forget Big Daddy? For a big, portly dude, he could run and was light on his feet. Kinda like an older Panda. Best fielding/hitting combo for a Giants starter until Livan, IMO. 17-8 in ’89, big part of that year’s Pennant success…
Uribe’s numbers have been slowly, quietly declining to his career norms, which are very much like Rowand’s. His “style” and contract undoubtedly help shield him from some of the criticisms directed at Rowand. Uribe’s probably as much in need of a breather as Huff was, so we see Fontenot tonight.
Not just a “blow” for Uribe, not good: Juan Uribe out with left foot issue. Fouled a ball off it in 3rd AB last night. Hobbling badly. Will see doc and get X-ray.
Don’t think anyone will be fearing our 1-2 punch pop up the middle. Oy vey.
Well, it was a blow to the foot…
Herman Segelke?
Yeah, who could forget ol’ Seggy . . . ?
Me?
Fontenot has played a grand total of 52 innings at SS. Strike ’em out, Bum.
Yeah 8 games at SS for Fontenooo 2 errors.Maybe an up grade over his play at 2B though.3 Giants games 2 errors. So he has alittle wiggle room at SS before his next blunder.
C’mon, Ted. Segelke for Hargesheimer? You really don’t remember??
Forgive me.
I’m a draftee.
So, what’s with Rent? Is he not available?….
Doesn’t he have a biceps injury?
Well, whatever it is with Rent, the Fontenot & Franchez power combo qualifies for Punch & Judy squared…
Hey, if it’s a bona fide shitty line up, things usually work out . . .
It’s a bona fide shitty line up like Scientology is a bona fide religion.
And I have no idea what this means
We need renteria …welcome to hell
Going out on a limb, but not a Dennis lemming-led ledge: we will win tonight. The last time I consulted MLB_Clairvoyant_Channel.com it worked, for that Saturday SD game that went extras. So, kick back and light up a Red Auerbachian cigar. not saying it’ll be easy and breezy, but we’ll win, as surely as the Arch arcs over the Mississippi.
uppercase that “n” in not
You can beg for forgiveess, but ‘n’ forever haunts all that go there!
Let’s hope uribe is only out a few games and the x ray is negative . I can’t believe I wish we has renteria right now
what’s wrong w/ Uribe?
Fouled a ball off his foot yesterday
Perfect.
Pawlie takes the time to correct the fact he forgot to capitalize an “n” in his previous post followed by Marvin saying “I wish we has…”
Hey I’m on an iPhone I can’t type for shit on these
And it’s wish we had renteria* like I said. WELCOME TO HELL
How ’bout that bottom of the lineup!
Nice work by the punch and judy team. And the Bumster coming through.Love that bottom of the order!
bunting is not Bochy’s style, chalk that run up to great coaching
Is just me, or does anyone else think that Torres has been squeezed since that non-foul tip call?
Nice start. And the game is actually on in Ben-d. I get to catch a few innings before dinner….
Nice catch
anyone catching a feed or stream of the game or whatever the feck it is?
once again it is windows only stream torrent
really? I’ve got a MacBook. Sigh.
Do you get MLB Network? It might be on there.
i’m too cheap to pay; just like I typically refuse to pay for wi-fi or . . . lap dances. WAIT.
Nice job of hitting the other way (what’s new) by Buster, but how the hell does Farmer John not score on that double? Kuip and Flem said he appeared to not be running full speed. Panda last night, Bum tonight. This crap is becoming a full-blown pandemic. What’s with the lack of hustle? Using the dog days as an excuse is dogshit.
just what we want from our pitcher – running and sliding
Ed, by all accounts, if he’d even given 75% he could have scored standing. No excuse.
lap dances only
http://www.firstrow.net/sports/baseball.html
tnx; can I safely download stream torrent? or will Latvian goat herders clean me out of house and home?
Turning two.
Dennis,
At the Strasburg debut (yeah, I know, the gods easily roll down Mount Olympus), some kids were all over him ’cause he could have EASILY gotten asingle in his first AB even if he ran like our beloved Bengie.
How’d the P batting 8th in that situation work out for ya Tony? Pious prick.
Bum got rid of that ‘back woods stalker beard’ and looks loaded for bear
Dinky- dukey bulkshit. Bum is getting fucked here in the 2nd
Fontenot’s arm is defintely not SS worthy.Should have been out of that inning scoreless.
