A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Buzzkill Game

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 18, 2010

That one just sucked. Uribe had easily his worst game as a Giant and one of the worst single performances of a Giant this year. He only got saddled with 1 error but he bungled at least 4 plays and did nothing at the plate….

I have to admit, I like Randy Wolf– definitely a guy you’d want on your team. Back in July he gave up something like 15 runs in 5 innings. You wonder how a manager lets a guy stay in that long but it turns out that Wolf volunteered to stay out there to save their bullpen that was destroyed the night before. He’s been pretty reliable since then and outstanding in his last 2 starts. Tip your cap and move on…….

I didn’t look at the pitching match ups when I said we could easily sweep these guys. Gallardo goes today, always a tough pitcher. We’ve had our moments against him though….

And then Sunday looms. God’s day. You’re supposed to rest on that day, right? I don’t think God is gonna be too happy to see Zito working on Sunday. I forsee a severe punishment in the offing…….

A day after an emotional game and after knowing the Padres lost is going to happen. Plus I got to catch up on my sleep after being up to 3 am after that first loss to the Dodgers and 2 am the next two nights.

By last night, I was snoring by the second inning…awoke in the bottom of the 8th for the comeback that never came. Ryan Roehlinger? You know your heart is not in the game when he is pinch-hitting when you are losing by just three…we definitely win the next two keeping up with my predictions of a 4-2 homestand..

I meant to articulate that a loss is not surprising under last night’s circumstances…

Quite a post from Nip last night…narrative of TedSpe’s activities reminded me of something out of Peter Plate.

What of Jenkins take (re: bum and IPs), “You can’t shut down a pitcher because of what might happen.” Earlier in article (Sf chron today) he says “At a time when terrified mgrs and execs….bench their starters for no good reason…”

I can sympathize with how he feels about pitch count mentality, but i’m not so sure he’s right here…Sf neither. Thoughts?

Flav’s alma mater Palo Alto HS( with QB Christoff Bono) upsets local private school power Mitty (led by Cal recruit Kyle Boehm) 20-7. Always nice to see the public schools put a hurt on local private school powers!

Guy who comes into the store where I work is a Boston native, real nice guy, who actually watches Sox games on their feed so he can listen to Remy do the games with his Boston accent. He was in a business meeting with some local clients here, and happened to talk up Brady , who went to HS at Serra of San Mateo (home of Barry Bonds, among others)….and he said instead the locals jumped all over him and said they hated Brady, Hollywood wife, etc.

Great multi sport post; I cannot read the Jenkins article, wish I could. Without seeing it I am of a mixed mind. From a fan perspective I hope what management is telling me is true. From a veteran listener perspective I have been disappointed. the first time I saw MadBum pitch I thought he looked great and that he was not mixing his pitches enough. Watching him last night I was dead wrong and he looked just like Bruce said: ready to work.
As for the team doctors after last season, did they get it right with Podsednik? And it that why he wasn’t in a black and orange uni this year?
At what point is a big league rookie able to say: wtf I need rest?

I never mind getting beat by another’s good efforts. but then I don’t bet on games. I do not expect the SFGs to be a buzzsaw through every game in September. October? Exactly what I want knowing full well how this team can jell.

I went to the pharmacy on Wednesday, Nipper. I should have enough meds to last me through the weekend. My medicine cabinet is shelved with bottles top to bottom. And what’s the deal with all those labels they affix to the bottles anyway? “May cause drowsiness.” “Use caution when operating heavy machinery.” “Alcohol may intensify this effect.” “DO NOT drink alcoholic beverages when taking this medicine.”

Who the hell pays attention to that crap. They should have just warned me, “DO NOT watch Giants baseball while taking this medication,” and they could have saved the forest a couple of trees.

Out of the blue, Baggs did a comparison of Buster and Molina and Molina comes off looking bad. What was the point of doing that now? Random slam job for no reason?

SF is in a real tough spot with Bumgarner. He’s been so effective. Even with a pitch limit he’s excelled. Before last night he had been pretty economical with his pitches. They’re in the thick of and it is not like they can look to Zito to carry the load. I think it has been pretty clearly shown that huge inning increases from year to year are what does in young arms. Best case is creating some distance in the standings and allowing Bumgarner to miss a spot. In the PS go with Lincecum, Cain and Sanchez with Bum out of the pen. With Rowand’s help, Zito can run handwarmers from the dugout to BP.

Yesterday i overdid it with spade, wrecking-bar and wheelbarrow doing some landscaping work for a friend. Those boulders, mostly buried in the lawn, were a bit heavy and the soil was glotty with moisture. Then when i got home it was another case of overdoing it with the dinner intake. Tuned into the game in the bottom of the first and stayed around through the second. Got tired and hit the sack and nodded off for the next couple hours or so. Getting up right around midnight, my time, the game was already over. What did i miss?

Somehow, my perspective on all this rambling is that it meshes pretty well with the Giants performance last night. They put it all into beating the Bums and partying down. Nothing left in the tank. Flat city against a fluffballer who gets the CG. Said it before. Here it is again. Dr. Jekyll was noplace to be found but Mr. Hyde was all over the field, particularly in the person of Uribe. My one remark last night, there after the second, was that Uribe is dragging and needs to sit a spell. His D. got even worse during the course of the game and his bat was nowheresville.

Gallardo is a pretty decent pitcher but, oddly, they should bounce back against him. Timmy’s gonna bring it. Not acutely worried about our Sunday starter. Have had a feeling for awhile that he’ll be okay against Milwaukee. Giants shattered the LaBumbos just in time for the Rox to pick up all the leftovers. I don’t like today’s pitching matchup at the Latrine. Dagos seem to be crumbled, with Latoast getting bombed by the Birds. So its the Giants vs. the Rox.

    Timmy tonight. Sweetness and light.

This is our SF Giants Feast or Famine when it comes to offense, there have been a few times that the Giants have but together games where they have more than 3 runs in back to back games but for the most part it is games where they score big and the next game they score 1 or 2 or no runs. I for one was not surprised. It does not mean I didn’t care it just the way the Giants are, it is so frustrating watching men on 2nd and 1 or no outs and they can not score.

    GO GIANTS. WIN

Well, they might go 3 man for he NLDS if they’re down 2-0 but they’ll plan on a 4. Bigger question is whether they split Tim and Matt and who is #1. Cain is probably better able to go on 3 if they need it..

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on September 18, 2010 at 11:19 am

Why would they even consider to split Tim and Matt (God willing, no jinx) for the post-season? That would be asinine beyond belief. The BS excuse used for the reg. season of R/L, change of pace/speeds between starts holds no water for the playoffs. Horse #1 is followed by Horse #2. End of discussion.

Shut your tart hole.I don’t think they will. But consider that Dirty is 2.86 ERA in 9 games ( 5 starts) against the Phils. And virtually unhittable in two starts at their park. Matt has been bopped around by the Phils. If they get the Phils, Dirty could very well be the two. The brained consider things like that, fuckwad.

Sorry Dennis, I made the argument the other day, Sanchez will be the #2 starter in the playoffs. If we start a short series at home, I think we go Cain-Sanchez first because I think Lincecum would have the cajones to pitch on the road.

if we start a series in Philly, I think we go Lincecum-Sanchez and Cain at home. That then sets up Cain in a game 7 in Philly.

    I think going righty-lefty-rughty is a powerful trimuverate in a okayoff series…

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on September 18, 2010 at 5:28 pm

GH, if these dates are correct, the NLDS plays on Oct. 6, 8, 10,11 and 13. That gives the #1 and 2 starters each 4 days until their next start in games 4 and 5 respectively. It has to be Tim/Matt or vice versa.
