Buzzkill Game
That one just sucked. Uribe had easily his worst game as a Giant and one of the worst single performances of a Giant this year. He only got saddled with 1 error but he bungled at least 4 plays and did nothing at the plate….
I have to admit, I like Randy Wolf– definitely a guy you’d want on your team. Back in July he gave up something like 15 runs in 5 innings. You wonder how a manager lets a guy stay in that long but it turns out that Wolf volunteered to stay out there to save their bullpen that was destroyed the night before. He’s been pretty reliable since then and outstanding in his last 2 starts. Tip your cap and move on…….
I didn’t look at the pitching match ups when I said we could easily sweep these guys. Gallardo goes today, always a tough pitcher. We’ve had our moments against him though….
And then Sunday looms. God’s day. You’re supposed to rest on that day, right? I don’t think God is gonna be too happy to see Zito working on Sunday. I forsee a severe punishment in the offing…….
A day after an emotional game and after knowing the Padres lost is going to happen. Plus I got to catch up on my sleep after being up to 3 am after that first loss to the Dodgers and 2 am the next two nights.
By last night, I was snoring by the second inning…awoke in the bottom of the 8th for the comeback that never came. Ryan Roehlinger? You know your heart is not in the game when he is pinch-hitting when you are losing by just three…we definitely win the next two keeping up with my predictions of a 4-2 homestand..
I meant to articulate that a loss is not surprising under last night’s circumstances…
Quite a post from Nip last night…narrative of TedSpe’s activities reminded me of something out of Peter Plate.
What of Jenkins take (re: bum and IPs), “You can’t shut down a pitcher because of what might happen.” Earlier in article (Sf chron today) he says “At a time when terrified mgrs and execs….bench their starters for no good reason…”
I can sympathize with how he feels about pitch count mentality, but i’m not so sure he’s right here…Sf neither. Thoughts?
Flav’s alma mater Palo Alto HS( with QB Christoff Bono) upsets local private school power Mitty (led by Cal recruit Kyle Boehm) 20-7. Always nice to see the public schools put a hurt on local private school powers!
Guy who comes into the store where I work is a Boston native, real nice guy, who actually watches Sox games on their feed so he can listen to Remy do the games with his Boston accent. He was in a business meeting with some local clients here, and happened to talk up Brady , who went to HS at Serra of San Mateo (home of Barry Bonds, among others)….and he said instead the locals jumped all over him and said they hated Brady, Hollywood wife, etc.
Great multi sport post; I cannot read the Jenkins article, wish I could. Without seeing it I am of a mixed mind. From a fan perspective I hope what management is telling me is true. From a veteran listener perspective I have been disappointed. the first time I saw MadBum pitch I thought he looked great and that he was not mixing his pitches enough. Watching him last night I was dead wrong and he looked just like Bruce said: ready to work.
As for the team doctors after last season, did they get it right with Podsednik? And it that why he wasn’t in a black and orange uni this year?
At what point is a big league rookie able to say: wtf I need rest?
Still a long time to game time and a proper way forward
Tip your cap and move on……
I never mind getting beat by another’s good efforts. but then I don’t bet on games. I do not expect the SFGs to be a buzzsaw through every game in September. October? Exactly what I want knowing full well how this team can jell.
WillieD– I haven’t been to a HS in forever. I drove by Los Altos High yesterday evening, they were playing someone, and it looked like a cool scene, brought back a lot of memories. I might take my daughter to a Paly game this year……
I hope Dennis can hang on until tonight.
I went to the pharmacy on Wednesday, Nipper. I should have enough meds to last me through the weekend. My medicine cabinet is shelved with bottles top to bottom. And what’s the deal with all those labels they affix to the bottles anyway? “May cause drowsiness.” “Use caution when operating heavy machinery.” “Alcohol may intensify this effect.” “DO NOT drink alcoholic beverages when taking this medicine.”
Who the hell pays attention to that crap. They should have just warned me, “DO NOT watch Giants baseball while taking this medication,” and they could have saved the forest a couple of trees.
Oh damn it’s SAT.
If Ishikawa starts on Sunday it may offset God’s displeasure with Zito. Bochy really aught to think about that…
Out of the blue, Baggs did a comparison of Buster and Molina and Molina comes off looking bad. What was the point of doing that now? Random slam job for no reason?
I saw that too and thought it was pretty bush league. Definately not something you would expect from Baggs.
SF is in a real tough spot with Bumgarner. He’s been so effective. Even with a pitch limit he’s excelled. Before last night he had been pretty economical with his pitches. They’re in the thick of and it is not like they can look to Zito to carry the load. I think it has been pretty clearly shown that huge inning increases from year to year are what does in young arms. Best case is creating some distance in the standings and allowing Bumgarner to miss a spot. In the PS go with Lincecum, Cain and Sanchez with Bum out of the pen. With Rowand’s help, Zito can run handwarmers from the dugout to BP.
twin brought up a good point, they won’t go three man rotation. Though, the yankees did it last year….
Yesterday i overdid it with spade, wrecking-bar and wheelbarrow doing some landscaping work for a friend. Those boulders, mostly buried in the lawn, were a bit heavy and the soil was glotty with moisture. Then when i got home it was another case of overdoing it with the dinner intake. Tuned into the game in the bottom of the first and stayed around through the second. Got tired and hit the sack and nodded off for the next couple hours or so. Getting up right around midnight, my time, the game was already over. What did i miss?
Somehow, my perspective on all this rambling is that it meshes pretty well with the Giants performance last night. They put it all into beating the Bums and partying down. Nothing left in the tank. Flat city against a fluffballer who gets the CG. Said it before. Here it is again. Dr. Jekyll was noplace to be found but Mr. Hyde was all over the field, particularly in the person of Uribe. My one remark last night, there after the second, was that Uribe is dragging and needs to sit a spell. His D. got even worse during the course of the game and his bat was nowheresville.
Gallardo is a pretty decent pitcher but, oddly, they should bounce back against him. Timmy’s gonna bring it. Not acutely worried about our Sunday starter. Have had a feeling for awhile that he’ll be okay against Milwaukee. Giants shattered the LaBumbos just in time for the Rox to pick up all the leftovers. I don’t like today’s pitching matchup at the Latrine. Dagos seem to be crumbled, with Latoast getting bombed by the Birds. So its the Giants vs. the Rox.
Timmy tonight. Sweetness and light.
This is our SF Giants Feast or Famine when it comes to offense, there have been a few times that the Giants have but together games where they have more than 3 runs in back to back games but for the most part it is games where they score big and the next game they score 1 or 2 or no runs. I for one was not surprised. It does not mean I didn’t care it just the way the Giants are, it is so frustrating watching men on 2nd and 1 or no outs and they can not score.
GO GIANTS. WIN
Today’s the anniversary of the Brain Johnson GW HR game. Ranks right up there with my all-time favorites. Still don’t know how we doubled up Murray. He’d fit right in with this years team.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYC3rQ2wzGI
God, that was an awesome game!!! Took the day off work, drove down from SR and went by myself. What with the extra innings & traffic, I didn’t get home until something like 8 that night… When Murray came up, I flashed on what the tv screens must be showing – “Murray has 1 million grand slams in his career”…not THAT day!!!
Aww, Shooter – still miss ya!
Well, they might go 3 man for he NLDS if they’re down 2-0 but they’ll plan on a 4. Bigger question is whether they split Tim and Matt and who is #1. Cain is probably better able to go on 3 if they need it..
Why would they even consider to split Tim and Matt (God willing, no jinx) for the post-season? That would be asinine beyond belief. The BS excuse used for the reg. season of R/L, change of pace/speeds between starts holds no water for the playoffs. Horse #1 is followed by Horse #2. End of discussion.
Shut your tart hole.I don’t think they will. But consider that Dirty is 2.86 ERA in 9 games ( 5 starts) against the Phils. And virtually unhittable in two starts at their park. Matt has been bopped around by the Phils. If they get the Phils, Dirty could very well be the two. The brained consider things like that, fuckwad.
I love tarts – Bakewell’s are world famous
Speaking of the NLDS, but we really shouldn’t be because it’s a jinx. Tickets for the NLDS go on sale Tuesday. I understand why they have to do this early, but I wouldn’t allow tickets to go on sale until we’ve clinched the post-season. Why? Because it’s a jinx!

I hope BF that your “severe punishment” prophecy for Zitoid is a false one. I’m going to the game tomorrow with my two kids. We’ll be out in the left center bleachers rooting on the Gmen. Anything you Flappers think I should tell Zito while he’s warming up? Keep it clean…
Tell Zito he’s a bum. In a nice way.
tell him 3 cy young games and all is forgiven; mostly
I’m eating Blue Diamond almonds. Oh wait a minute- I thought I was on Facebook for a moment there.
Zoom if that’s an example of your status updates…..
Yeah, I should have added that I’m watching the Ark./Georgia game. Good game.
Didn’t “Smoke on the Water” play when Robb Nen came into games?

going to the game tonight … even though it’s nosebleed in section 319. Who’s up for a beer?
Two more HRs for Tulip. Unbelievable month.
Not that it matters … but I’ve forgotten about the Padres. Rockies are probably favored by some, but a sweep by the Gmen should settle things down.
A little different for tonight.:
Fontenot 2B Uribe SS Huff 1B Posey C Burrell LF Sandoval 3B Guillen RF Ross CF Lincecum SP
I swear, you’d think that as professional athletes, the Dodgers would have some pride, and try to play their best. It’s just criminal how they just laid down, first for SD and now for Col. Yeah, just try and tell me the rivalry between SF & LA is dead – it certainly seems alive and well for those fuckers!!!
Our season so far:
Let’s go again!!!
My treat if you’re ever in Brooklyn…
I like giving Fontenot a shot. Combo speed/OBP, he’s probably as good as they’ve got.
Huge game for Tim, obviously. But also, heck, we’re going to need huge games from Tim if we make the playoffs. We need him to slam the door on Milwaukee tonight.
Is that a nice way of saying Tim shouldn’t expect too much run support, Zum?
Maybe an early homerun by the Giants, and cruise to a 3-1 victory!
Especially after Ludwick just went yard and gave the Friars a 3-run lead in the 9th.
In other words, they just won. Which is what we have to do. Tonight is a MUST WIN.
What a wild, intense two weeks this is going to be. This is good old fashioned pennant race craziness.
Dennis’ 64th “Must WIN or there’s no tomorrow” of the year.. but this one is pretty close with the Zitster on the “bump” tomorrow.
I think you’re exaggerating and piling it on a little thick there. By my count that was only my 62nd “Must WIN or there’s no tomorrow” dictation. When I reach 64, you can let me have it.
Sorry Dennis, I made the argument the other day, Sanchez will be the #2 starter in the playoffs. If we start a short series at home, I think we go Cain-Sanchez first because I think Lincecum would have the cajones to pitch on the road.
if we start a series in Philly, I think we go Lincecum-Sanchez and Cain at home. That then sets up Cain in a game 7 in Philly.
I think going righty-lefty-rughty is a powerful trimuverate in a okayoff series…
GH, if these dates are correct, the NLDS plays on Oct. 6, 8, 10,11 and 13. That gives the #1 and 2 starters each 4 days until their next start in games 4 and 5 respectively. It has to be Tim/Matt or vice versa.
Why the hell are we even worrying about this. Focus for tonight. Beat the Brewers!
ok no argument there…
I like firstplace! I want to stay there!
Me Too.
Pads too.
I wouldn’t be trippin on tonight’s game so much if it weren’t for tomorrow’s loss to consider. Getting swept at home by a team that’s out of it would smart. Tonight is big for sure. And I too like Fotenot leading off. All I’m looking for from Panda tonight is to not look like, well, what I would do at the plate in the same situation. He’s at home, he’s batting left handed, this is as good as it gets for Panda….
Zito’s girlfriend was doing his show on KNBR today and he said that Panda looks 30 lbs lighter in those slo-mo ads that he did with Cain and Bochy. Does he look 30 lbs lighter to you guys? He looks almost the same to me……..
I heard that too, Flav. I think it’s bullshit. Some kind of computer animation thing, I guess. Cain doesn’t look normal either. Panda’s no fatter this year. They also said he couldn’t get the ball out of the infield batting righty in BP.
When? K and K said he was driving them in the LF bleachers right handed on Friday.
5 games in a row dodgers no help…reminds of the old saying, “you gotta do it yourself if you wanna get anything done.”
the Dodgers are 100% focused on direct deposits and whores. They’re an embarrassment to baseball the way they’ve folded now that they’re out of it……
just to piss us off
The lovable little fat guy goes deep tonight. I predict it.
Great AB!
Lousy AB!
why is it so hard to see right now? There aren’t any shadows out there and the natural light seems fine.
Who’s taking Stanford -17.5 tonight? Gave my tix away, didn’t want to miss any of this game. Wake Forest is going to give Cardinal defense some problems, therefore, NO BET!
Yeah, Fangio said they’ve spent more hrs. trying to decipher their triple option than usual. Deacons could bust a few big ones tonight. But the Cards hold a huge adv. in the OL/DL match up. The ground attack should be in full effect tonight.
The Giants could use their ground attack right bout now…
Hey Kruk, except for Torres all year, opposing players don’t have to worry about scouting the Giant runners.
a pete rose dive and he is safe
do they do that anymore?
I was thinking the same thing – pretty much the only time you want to see someone slide into first.
Panda? What about Fielder standing next to fontenot….makes him look like a little kid, and Font is on top of the base, and Fielder isn’t
Are you kidding me? That’s only a single? It went to the fucking wall in CF, not one of the corners.
Let’s go Timmy!
Panda really should have stepped on third there then come home…
It’s nothing to focus on now, especially as the season is done with LA, but today they traded Dotel–in the division–to the Rockies. That’s a pretty decent frack you to the Giants.
actually Ed, that will probably help us when we go into CO and get beat the crap out of Dotel…
shit that hurts
God hates us.
Damn it.Why didn’t Panda step on third and still go home ?,he had time to do that.Ends up costing 2 runs.
Tim has that warrior look tonight and there was gonna be a run scored in that inning game goes to the offense now
its a tag play at home if he touches 3b 1st, and then, the runner is in the way of the throw…
Pablo didn’t field that ball 100% cleanly and I think that hurried him into thinking be best be sure to get the lead runner. Again, no goddamn excuse. It’s September 18, there are NO excuses. Win or else.
And our offense if worse than the fucking Forty Niners. We can’t score.
of course, the oblivious ones..Krukow and Kuiper never bothered mentioning that Panda could easily have stepped on third…
#1, he steps on third and even they dont get the out at home, they have the #8 hitter which they can walk and get to the pitcher…it is not the end of the world to to have given up just one run in the 4th…we could have avoided giving them the second run..let’s go Giants…start fucking hitting…
the only response is….it doesn’t deserve a response
sorry you know so little of baseball..he was one foot away from touching the fucking bag at third…
what would Brooks Robinson do? Step on third and then throw fucking home…
…makes sense to me, giant head. Should have stepped on 3rd, then threw home. Like you said, it might have saved us a run.
there we go Panda…time for 8 runs to be scored…
good call at first..thanks blue
I know it was a tag play WSW…My point is he had the time to touch 3rd and Fielder wasn’t even running hard and i doub’t he even slides,he wasn’t watching the play at all.Easy DP out of the inning no score.Panda just blew the play.
my next post was gonna be ‘how will bruce pinch hit.
Boy Timmy is steamed there…I dont know if he is wrong, but let’s go Nate…
I like the call, gotta try to make something happen…C’mon Shitholtz, make Bochy look good.
i like the move, our BP is solid
a giant utter fool…
head is…
you are such a little cocksucker WSW..always making shit personal..a big fuck you…
agree Kat..that is just the right play to make…what you would teach little leaguers..
that’s already a win for Bochy–great move.
Good AB, OK, let’s go little Runt Jr.
Score goddammit!
Bochy has had the lucky hand of late, I will stick with him on this one..
ok good enough…got that run back..
The first run is always the toughest one to get….we need more!
Jesus Christ, what we have to do to get a fucking run sometimes….ok, bringing it to within one and breaking the drought was huge…..
Uribe. Bleah….Huge run though…..
I totally endorse what Bochy did. Gave them a chance for a big inning.
kat…he didn’t do it, I told you why, so move on…
