Sweeping Cleveland out of Town and A Critically Important Vote
Lost in all the commotion of Dirrrrty heading to the DL, Zito returning and the clever ways we have developed to score a run is this nugget: Since The Mad Bum Implosion Inning our pitching staff has pitched 44 innings and given up 6 runs. When your pitching staff is dropping a 1.22 ERA on teams you can tolerate having a horrid offense–possibly the worst in either league……
So let’s assume Dirrrrty isn’t hurt and there isn’t any question whatsoever about his health. What is his trade value right now? It’s not hard to see that it’s a little on the low end but some of you might argue that his value is always pretty high. I’m fine with that for the sake of this next vote. Because he’s a FA next year I highly doubt that the Mets would agree to this deal. Another thing to keep in mind as you thoughtfully consider where to assign your single precious vote: assume that Reyes walks at the end of the year so we are only getting him for the rest of this year and the playoffs. Also assume that if we didn’t trade Sanchez he would sign another 1 year deal with us for approximately the same as he’s making this year (4.8 mill)
Did Balkin’ Bob get consideration for POTG?
should have!
I’m surprised that Sanchez will be UFA in 2012. I guess he’ll be moved for something. If the Mets would so that deal straight up sure do it but I would think that Sabean could get a better deal. Not necessarily a better player than Reyes but a player that can help this year (O. Cabrera?) and a prospect or two. Maximize the return.
Sanchez does admit to some soreness, and bochy says velocity was down. Sanchez thought he could pitch thru it, takes the company line, “I wasn’t pitching well….and I need to get better.” Has to be a big red flag to the Mets or anyone else. He would not be cheap, and obviously isn’t going to help the Mets get any better than they are, which is under .500 with reyes having mvp season. This deal never happens, unless you toss in a couple of belt, wheeler brown burriss crawford. And of course no one can be traded while on the DL, so you’d have to see what happened after sanchez came off the DL and started a couple times, yadda yadda.
Because of what happened last year compared with this season, a lot of people are smugly claiming Giants were a fluke. Big drop off in offensive numbers from the likes of Huff, Torres, Burrell and even Posey when he was healthy, plus the awful June of Lincecum and Sanchez are going to color the perception of value when you start talking trades.
Btw saw Hanley (who doesn’t exactly run like reyes) last night make the same dumb base running mistake Nate made last week, getting himself thrown out at third on a ground ball hit right at the SS, just an out after he had whacked a two run double. Capt. Jack must have loved that one.
Any deal, for anyone, esp if it involved giving up starting ptiching, I’d want someone you can help build the team around for long term. Rentals, no, and I am just reluctant to get into bidding war on long term big bucks FA like reyes would be in the off season. As pointed out yesterday, just look at what the cubs are paying their guys. Jayson werth is hitting .232 for the Nats this year, and there are other examples of over paid under performing guys with big contracts all over the league…..one of whom we just activated.
Lets not settle for the worst offense in the league. Time to kick some butt.
Thanks for putting up the poll question, Flav. But I already knew what the results would be. 90% of Flappers would rather wait, and believe, that Miggy will come out of his funk. Same 90% are happy with our “Dynamic Duo” at catcher. Why would anyone want a guy like Reyes, who if he were a Giant, would lead the team in runs scored (by 31 over Torres), lead the team in OPS ( by 110 pts over Ross), lead the team in SBs (by 20, again over Torres). Not to mention that Reyes currently leads the NL in batting. Why would the Giants who are DEAD LAST in runs scored and nearly every other offensive category need a guy like Reyes? What in the world was I thinking?
Mets would demand more than a straight up deal. They have to think of their fans too. New Yorkers are tough customers even when they feel good.
And somebody stole my Sunday paper AGAIN. Now I’m really pissed.
Didn’t vote, but cheated and checked the results. I would favor a Sanchez-Reyes one-up trade IF: Addition of Reyes would for sure augment the offense sufficiently to get the Giants back into the WS. Not sure about that scenario as my suspicion is that the team would still be one bat short of a pretty solid shot, a hitter who can get those ducks off the pond and on the plate. Such a hitter, say Michael Cuddyer, another F.A. to be, could be had only if the Twins seriously drop outta contention, or possibly Carlos Beltran if the Giants are willing to give up half the farm in a mega-swap with the Mutts.
These scenarios do not seem to fall within the M.O. of Sabean and company, so i think the point is moot at best.
“I would favor a Sanchez-Reyes one-up trade IF: Addition of Reyes would for sure augment the offense sufficiently to get the Giants back into the WS.”
OK, with that proviso, I change my vote-Hell, yes!!!
The Indians, who haven’t exactly spanked the ball since they’ve been here, get the Desenex burger of having to hit in the shadows for a couple hours tonite off Bum (who hopefully lasts at least that long). downside being the Giants have to hit iin the same conditions. Another example of the tyranny of the networks….wtf is ESPN showing at 4 eastern time that is so fucking important the game could not be shown live at normal 1 PM start time here in broad daylight? Not to mention that it’s getaway day for the Tribe (only to AZ) who still have to fly out of Dodge for a couple hours afterwards.
So let’s see- first it’s said Dirty will lose his spot to Barry Fucking Zito, then he goes on the DL instead… the real question should be “Is there a GM in Baseball stupid enough to trade Reyes for Sanchez?”
Anyway, the Mets want prospects-plural. Make that question “Would you trade Belt and Wheeler for 2 Months of Reyes?”..
Pay attention: the Giants are winning their division without Reyes and they won the World Series while hittiing .235 in the postseason.
Ask yourself this: what are the odds that Vogelsong pitches anywhere close to what he has? Hell, what are the odds he doesn’t blow up entirely? Remember this is a guy whose ERA was 4.81 and WHIP 1.77 last year-IN THE MINORS.You real secure with Zitfuck and Vogelsong as the 4-5? They both faceplant and Babe Ruth ain’t helping, let alone Reyes.A big “NO” from Room A..
“would for sure augment the offense sufficiently to get the Giants back into the WS” CLASSIC!!!
There ain’t no guarantees Stix, you just take a shot and hope it works out for the best. Do I think Zito will suck balls when he returns? Yes. Do I still worry a bit about Voggy given his history? Maybe a little, but I’m willing to gamble on him being solid for the most part.
I’m not even that down on Dirty, I just want to see Reyes in Orange in Black. He is EXACTLY what the doctor ordered for this team. And if they were able to bring him here, GOOD LUCK getting a ticket to a game at ATT. The sellout streak would span the season with no need for game day discount shenanigans to sell off the crappy seats. Larry Baer—-I’m talking to you!!! Dynamic Pricing would blow up–Cha-ching!
I agree the Mets would probably not go for it, but if they did, I WOULD BE IN.
Vogelsong’s career is the pitcher’s equivalent to Andres Torres…
Torres had some success in the minors,Loo-Weinie. There’s no comparison at all.
Who cares about the minors? It’s a brilliant comparison. You just wish you thought of it first.
i agree Loo, in fact I’ve called Voggy “this year’s Torres” several times……
I thought I heard it somewhere…
Even if they got Reyes, I still think a MINIMUM of one more bat is needed. If you compare the current offense straight up to last year’s squad, they are minus Posey, Uribe, Freddie, Ishikawa and Renteria, and have much less effective editions of Torres, Huff, and Burrell. A full year of Cody and a somewhat improved Nate are the only plusses…
Mets would have Sanchez for one year.Once again, pay attention ditzelbrains-they want guys they control for SIX years. For the “fully-witted”, that ends the absurd “Sanchez for Reyes” discussion..
What’s your bright idea? Stand pat and what for Miggy to come around? How’s that .270/15/70 looking?
Has a team that finished DEAD LAST in runs scored ever won a division? I’d like to know the answer to that question…
Time for my annual posting of the 1979 Astros stats (49 HRS!!!)
http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/HOU/1979.shtml
Somehow won 89 games and just missed the division crown by 1.5 games.
Look it up, dilwad…
And listen: it doesn’t matter whether you would do the trade, the Mets won’t.. God, you are DENSE..
Del Mar Dense?
Of course the Mets won’t do it *now,* he’s on the DL. I made the proposal *before* his phony-baloney injury.
I guess we’ll never know…
On the dumb-ass NY sports talk shows most conversations include Bumgarner & more…
A proper question would be what one thinks it would take to get Reyes ( as a rental) and whether you would make that trade..I say it would take Belt/Wheeler and I would not do that…
Nor would I. But I would so far as Sanchez/Wheeler. No problem.
There’s a month before the deadline and they’re in first with no other team in a postion to run away with it. The sensible thing is to see who falls out of contention and then consider a larger pool of players..
Sanchez and Wheeler for two months of Reyes? Pick up your drool cup at the Nurse’s station..
I’ve heard of beating dead horses, but those were animals that were at least, once alive. Reyes doesn’t want to leave NY. Reyes doesn’t want to consider any contract changes until this season is over. Thus, this is beating an imaginary fantasy — beating a dead unicorn.
I think the Giants should look long and hard at trying to acquire Jose Reyes. He’s a one-man Wrecking Crew.
Should of had your money on him, btw…
Wouldn’t be a shock to see them give Edgar Gonzales a shot. He’s reached base in 31 straight games.. no, dunderheads, he’s not the ANSWER but he’s always hit a bit in the minors and I’m willing to take the Room B route on this one: it can’t be worse..
He’s 33 and hasn’t played in the Bigs since ’09 when he hit .216 for the Padres.
Here’s some Ajax and a mop. Go clean the latrine…
He hit .274 the year before. I know his history ,dimwit. Crawford is making a serious run at the .100 mark..
I caught his act quite a bit down here in SD. Not too handy with the glove, but he can hit a fastball. I totally agree he is worth a shot.
Toronto just signed Yunel Escobar to a not outrageous contract. Those poor guys are currently 4th in their own division, and would have to finish ahead of at least two of boston ny tampa just to make the playoffs. I always liked this guy, better than bobby cox did I guess.
Anyway, I think twin’s basically right…as soon as other teams look up and realize it ain’t gonna happen for them this year, maybe one more month, the anybody but T group should have viable options, who hopefully can improve on Crawford’s OPS, just as bad as Tejada’s..
AZ pen “reverting to form”… 7 in the 8th for Detroit. Giants could win this division with Edgar Gonzalez at short, Speedy Gonzales at second, and Slowpoke Rodriguez at third…
Wait a minute. You want Edgar to play short? A guy with 1, count ’em ONE career start in the Bigs at shortstop?
You keep settin’ ’em up on a tee, and I’ll keep hittin’ ’em outta the park…
Like I’ve been saying all along, this club needs help from OUTSIDE the organization. Now you’re banking on Edgar fucking Gonzales to make a fucking difference? What time do you open up at the Punch Line? I’ll take two down front…
Saying they might give him a shot is hardly saying he’ll be some big fucking difference maker. You’re pissing me off. Here’s some news for you, shithead: even if he hit as he did in 2009, he’d be our best hitting SS BY FAR. ( his .651 OPS that year is fucking Ruthian compared to what they’re getting. And he IS the starting SS at Fresno, hell yes they’d try him there.
because Reyes isn’t signed next year I think you will all be surprised what the Mets end up getting for Reyes. It’ll either be not that much or they won’t do the deal because they aren’t getting enough……
They won’t be doing a deal for Sanchez so thepoll is moot anyway.
Tonight’s early posted lineup is in honor of Twin’s nurse…Nurse Ratched.
Torres CF, Crawford SS, Sandoval 3B, Huff 1B, Ross LF, Schierholtz RF, Hall 2B, Stewart C, Bumgarner P
I’ve been letting you have the LUs because it obviously satisfies your passive/aggressive disorder..
No one said he would be a “difference maker”, shithead. Don’t distort my posts. You’re worse than the Sobber. And dumber.
Distort your posts? Maybe you should think before you post anything that includes starting Edgar Gonzales at shortstop.
Talk about warped…
Now you made me burn my linguica talking about your “distorted” posts. I hope you had a nice lunch. Mine’s ruined.
Linguini for lunch? I got off pasta, bread and chips a few yewars ago. Way to many carbs……Lurie’s show today is a hoot. They’re discussing which Giants Bochy might be picking for the all star game. I only heard a few callers but one guy thought Schierholtz should be picked. Can you imagine the nationwide outcry if Nate makes it, lol
Edgar Gonzalez has a better chance than Nate.
He said “linguica”, it’s a wienie.
That’s Portuguese for Kielbasa!
If you’re ever in Chicago, just ask Abe Froman. He’s the Sausage King.
Uh-Oh. Terrible news for DD and the Sobber- AZ lost and NY leads CO in the 9th..
Reyes just hit his 14th triple…
Maybe there’s a misunderstanding in Room Bermuda: what’s being pointed out to you is that we’re not getting Reyes, 14 triples or 44. Comprende?
Si.
Marty Lurie just said on KNBR that if *he* were Toronto, he’d consider Sanchez for Jose Bautista.
And you guys call me a boob…
I call Martie Lurie a glib asswipe.
I’ve been touting Keppinger for 2 years. Especially now that Freddy’s gone. He’s more our style. A little better version of Fontenot.
Is DeRosa officially out for the year? Imagine if he came back and actually contributed…
Imagine all the people…
Imagine DaRosa playing
It’s easy if you try
Able to swing the bat
and not break down and cry
Imagine DaRosa play-ing
and earning his 12 mil…you-who-oo-oo-oo
you may say I’m a dreamer
but I’m not only one
maybe someday DaRosa will join us
and the Giants will score some runs
Imagine DaRosa playing
and cleanly fielding a ball
No more Crawford, Miggy or Manny
we might even play in the Fall
Imagine DaRosa playing
with a .800 OPS, you hoo–oo-oo-oo
you may say-ee-ay I’m a dreamer
but I’m not the only one
maybe someday we’ll even trade for Reyes
and our offense will have some fun
awesome dawg…back to back jacks.
Hey, I’m really glad to hear how Jackson says he looks forward to teaching tyler how to be a post man in the nba. big guys take way more teaching and work anyway, and if the kid only played 3 yrs. HS, he basically doesn’t know shit, and hasn’t played anyone with near the ability and experience of nba vets.
Hopefully, he can learn to move, establish position, pass and catch, and develop couple go to moves like a drop step/jump hook/ up and under/turn around j, and make these moves from both sides of the lane and use either hand. And that’s just one end of the floor of course.
good luck to the both of them…
Very entertaining!
Here’s Doomin’ Denny on the Splash about line up bashing:
“I’m compelled to like *every* lineup we field. That’s what’s being a Giants fan is all about. I just happen to like some lineups better than others. And when I do, I duly note them.”
You got a fucking problem with that?
Our very own Eddie Haskell…
And may I add, you’re looking especially nice tonight Barbara Billingsley…
Jose Reyes went 4 fer 5 today. Scored three runs, upped his NL lead-leaguing avg. to .341 and swiped his NL lead-lead leaguing 28th base today. God forbid the Giants trade for a guy like Jose Reyes…
Wanting him is not relevant, dumbfuck. They’re not getting him..Example: I’d love having Braun instead of any of our current LFers. We’re not getting him, Mr. Soph.
Those numbers are way too gaudy for us. He doesn’t fit.

The most interesting thing about the poll to me is the 34 votes.
Who are these people?
Ain’t me. I abjure.
Will Sanchez come back and pitch enough, and well enough, before the deadline to make the question of his trade value valid? 50/50.
Is MLB really gonna go to this 15-team two-team league BS next year that allows 5 playoff teams from each league? What a crock. Move over David Stern and Gary Bettman, here comes Bud…
So, who moves back to the AL? It ain’t gonna be the Brewers, is it? I’m sure Bud doesn’t want to move back . . .
Bummie gets is rebound start tonight.
He’ll have the shadows as well, so that should help the first few innings.
Chuck, I think it’ll be the ‘Stros who get kicked to the AL…
Sanchez ain’t going anywhere. Not in the short-term anyway.
Think Bug forces someone like Pittsburgh to the AL? Sort of a punishment for being so shitty?
“Sanchez ain’t going anywhere”
We’re going to train the lad.
Short-term, DJ. After this season, Wheeler should be ready.
I’ve never said the team couldn’t use Reyes.Of course they could- but they either won’t part with or more likely don’t have the prospects the Mets will want. So just STFU with his stats- might as well post Honus Wagner’s..
Sanchez and Wheeler not enough? The Mets have to get *something* for him, they’re not gonna resign him to a long-term deal. Now, another team may outbid us, but Jose Reyes will be traded. Book it!
Hey, I just p/u that boob, Luebke from the Padres for my fantasy team. He threw 5 IP of 1-hit shutout ball today.
Let’s trade Sanchez for that guy…
maybe now hershiser will stf about last outing from bum. It’s over, and so is the first inning.
Now we lost the HP ump because of a “possible concussion?” I’ve been bangin’ my head into a brick wall on a constant basis since I was 2. Look out how I’ve turned out. Suck it up.
Stewie! Don’t look back, Whitey. He’s gaining on ya…
that slo-mo of the balk, before today’s start, was like an involuntary twitch cause by a flying bug touching your hand.
boy these espn guys sure have some funny 1-liner zingers about our shitty offense don’t they?
“Bumgarner feels like he won the lottery”
“a base hit from their 8 hitter feels like a grand slam”
The hits kept on coming, that was just a sample of their comedic genius…….
Nifty base running from Hall.
I am listening to KNBR – so far
ESPN sure improved getting rid of miller
I would never miss what’s his name
Vera amd Verne already know Whitey’s in the rear view mirror . . .
You’d think a guy named Hershieser could say Bumgarner . . .
He’s muffed it 3 times . . .
we see catchers getting hit all the time and they keep playing.
a sober reality reminder when a mere human gets hit in the mask and has to leave the game.
hey, if I do 20 push-ups during the advert breaks, that is 300 or so by the end of the game
cool, better than walking to the kettle and making a cup of tea.
bum pitching with a lead and now huff gets a hit with runners on next cody’ll pop one
After we sweep these chumps, which I said we would do before the series started, I hope it becomes clear to everyone in the AL how hard it is to compete with us in our park. Cleveland is leaving SF dazed and confused…..
Fear the Balk!
It would’ve taken Sanchez a half hour to get out of that jam…
Of course, Dirty never gave up 8 in the first, either…
Dig the non-effort by Cabrera at SS…
at 2nd that is…
right. pure ole out of the seasoned vet, allows the runner to get to third.
Check out this guy’s career…one and done with every team he plays for, despite respectable numbers.
Did the Indians skip Spring Training this year?
Nice squeeze there, Bum. WTF didn’t they call Hall outta the baseline when he came down the line?
He wasn’t even close to being near 3rd and Market.
Chuckles got POTD? He didn’t even spell “Hershiser” correctly. WTF have the standards gone?
Bring back the Bikini Babes…
Maybe that was Flannery’s fault- he forgot to flash the sign in Gooberese.
not a bad POTD; the one below by Loo is pretty darned good too.
Sometimes I feel guilty about how much I bashed Bochy.
guys on baggs blog are still at it pretty regular.
Then you wake up . . .
Meat of the order due up..
With this lineup, don’t you “Meathead” of the order? The head of the household residing at 704 Hauser St. in Queens, NY says so…
Oh, be quiet. It was a joke
Meat of the Cleveland order gets one in the 6th. Good recovery by the Undertaker after first two got on and nobody out. One tally on a groundout. Otherwise the coffin door gets slammed shut. Seems like the Minnesota episode did not get to this kid’s head. If he stays healthy can you imagine the pitcher Bumgarner may be when he’s say, 27 or so. 21 and counting. At least he’s bar-legal.
Stix’s appellation– the Undertaker — coined during the WS performance is so grand and apt. I salute it. Again.
Way to overcome the terrible call there by Bummie. . . .
I’m jealous. My daughter and her friend walked up and got 2 club seats for $35 per . . .
Almost got a foul ball . . .
Wow . . .
Come on Nate.
they gotta trade that Bumm, 8 runnings last outing and now he can’t throw a double play ball
🙂
really impressed with MadBum’s bounce back game. He pitched stupidly and poorly last time, he hung around with his teammates throughout the game and answered the tough questions afterwards and then he comes out and competes tonight.
His last start was as much on idiot-Whiteside as it was on Bumgarner…….
Bum leads the league in snot-rockets blown on the mound—it’s not even close.
Yeah, I mentioned that a couple weeks ago. So true
Did Panda pull a muscle coming into third? You guys wanna see the rest of the season w/ a left-side infield of Tejada and Crawford?
You’ll be trading away your first-born male child for Jose Reyes next…
I’ve noticed that, too. I Never fucking do that. Maybe if I’m super sick or something and can’t get it out. Maybe. San Dawg, if you do that on a green at my dad’s club on Sunday I’ll pay you $20 just to see his southern upbringing reaction.
it’s a deep southern Richmond, VA drawl. You might not understand the words, but you’ll catch the meaning. That’s how it was growing up anyways. 🙂
No deal on the $20 snot rocket. I’m already combing through my closet trying to find a shirt that won’t come untucked!!
