A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Down 2 Games to 1

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 25, 2014

I wonder what it feels like to shell out $700 for a seat to a World Series game and watch your team lose. Serious question. I’ve been to one game, in 2010, and the memories from that game are as strong and as awesome as the day of the game. But would they sustain over the time had the Giants lost? It’s gotta feel like a win, as fan, to not pay the $700 and to not have to watch your team lose (in person).

It was fantastic to see Pawlie Kokonuts and Sarge yesterday. Freaking Pawlie was getting interviewed by someone associated with the Giants within the first 5 minutes that we hung out. Sarge braved the knot hole experience. He sent me some photos that I’ll post later….

Last night’s loss felt like a lot of regular season losses–can’t hit, can’t win. The pitching was fine. If the Giants can’t figure out a way to score some mid/late game runs against the Royal bullpen I don’t know what to say. Other hitters have broken through against them. This “HGH” stuff is overblown. They’re just men.

The weather stinks right now. Cold. Windy. It was raining earlier this morning. Weather God’s say the game isn’t in jeopardy. I know that several Flappers are hooking up pre-game to toast The FU and to socialize. Have fun up there, boys, sorry I couldn’t make it today.

Peavey and Hudson were rocky, IMO, and I’m not feeling great about Vogey tonight. I’m now liking Bum tonight and in a Game 7. It’s something dramatic, and the ’14 Giants need something dramatic to get this final goal accomplished.
UNLESS, as you say, the bats wake up. Then it’s all good.

If Voggy tanks early, I’ve gotta believe Bochy will have a very quick hook, and enter Petit. Otherwise, I don’t know what he’d be waiting for to use Petit, every day adds rust to Petit’s arm…

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on October 25, 2014 at 12:03 pm

agreed. I could see him getting yanked in the first inning if he walks a couple of guys or gives up 2 or 3 hits. Can’t wait around at this point in the season.

Zumiee – I beg to differ on Peavy. Giants led 1-0 after 1/2 an inning and Royals tied it 1-1 in the bottom of the inning. Royals went up 2-0 in the 2nd and Giants tied in the 4th. Wasn’t until the 6th that the wheels came off. IMO Peavy did his job, and the failure was more on the bullpen.

This season, when KC is ahead after the 7th, their record is 77-1.
I think the Giants better be ahead by the end of the 7th…

    • Alleykat's avatar Alleykat said, on October 25, 2014 at 12:10 pm

They better be ahead by the 5th, so won’t don’t have to deal with the “3 headed monster”
You get the lead and Yost can’t use his pen like he wants too, just getting that lead is the problem.

      • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on October 25, 2014 at 12:15 pm

And the Giants starting pitcher not giving up early runs, like Peavey and Hudson did. They didn’t give up many runs, but it put the Giants behind early, and I gotta believe the Giants hitters start to feel the pressure, knowing those three guys are in the Royals bullpen. The Giants hitters are only human, to have that in the back of their mind.

It reminds me a lot of what the Padres had during that period when they had Gregerson, Adams, and Hoffman, at the height of their powers, 2008-2011, or so. The Padres came dang close to winning the division in 2010, and who knows how far they would have gone had they made the playoffs.

John Madden has left the Rays to make more money, but there aren’t that many managerial openings, at the moment. On the True Blue L.A. blog, the Dodger fans are mostly “we (heart) John Madden; fire Donnie 2x.” But Friedman made a point of giving 2x a full vote of confidence. But we all know that the so-called “vote of confidence” isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be.

  5. gianthead's avatar gianthead said, on October 25, 2014 at 12:29 pm

Herrera is hittable. One base knock out of Posey or Panda there in the 6th and the game is tied. I have no fear of him. Voggy just needs to keep it close and looks like our type of weather.

There is absolutely no need to hit the Panik πŸ™‚ button and force Bum up a day.

What have you all been saying in the second half? One game at a time…we win tonight we got Bum tomorrow and I love our chance to be up 3-2. Only thing I would consider is throwing a Monkey wrench and have Petit start Game 7

Edd and I will meet up at the Park, maybe whoever else shows up. I’ve put my text # on the email, so anybody can coordinate using that and develop a phone # tree. Or, I’ll circulate an email with updates. If we only have a few, it might work staying at the park. They may have crowd control going into the Public House?…

I was able to walk right in at 2:30 but there was a guy at the front (and it was close to capacity inside). Around 3:30 I tried to go back in again and there was a line of about 40 people waiting. No place to sit at all in there (or even move around). It might have settled a bit once the game started, I didn’t check back.

    Blanco CF

    Posey C
    Pence RF
    Sandoval 3B

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on October 25, 2014 at 2:22 pm

We need “OFFENSE” fuck the wind howling, and if it’s blowing out to LF even better for Morse to jack one!!!

Two things. First a confession. I was on board with the “hey, I am not sweating this world series…they have won two…yada yada.” Bullshit for me. I do NOT want to see the Giants lose the series. Fuck that…I want THREE IN FIVE. Anyway…point being while I have talked it off like Craig and others that it is no big deal…well, for me, it is a big deal. If we end up losing this series…I think I will take it pretty hard. My prediction is the Giants take tonight’s game, and Bum’s start tomorrow, and then need a split in KC. My dauber is not down…I still like our chance. HUMM BABY – LET’S DO IT AGAIN!

It has been raining most of the day up here in the foothills, and when I considered a 2.5 to 3 hour drive to the city in this shit, having to dick around with parking, and then driving home tonight around 11…it just did not appeal. I would have loved to met up with Joe, snarkk, Edd and whoever else shows…I just couldn’t do it.

I think the key to any game in this series is getting a lead early. If our boys go into the 6th or 7th down a run or more, it is going to be tough going. Not saying their bullpen cannot be hit, but they are pretty fucking good.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on October 25, 2014 at 2:45 pm

It hasn’t happened yet but I still think that, if we lose the series, it won’t bother me too much. But who knows? I’m still staying + but today is nearly a must win

  11. Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on October 25, 2014 at 3:30 pm

well, Bochy is obviously afraid to play Morse in the field and I’m not going to really argue that. He hasn’t been out there in a while. But if the theory is that you have to get to the SP before the 6th inning then I would think you insert Morse and pray for a bomb early and that he doesn’t have too many challenging plays in the field.

  12. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on October 25, 2014 at 3:39 pm

I keep wanting to think ‘John’ instead of ‘Joe’ Maddon.
But his quote still kind of cracks me up. It was basically “I’m going to go somewhere where they’ll pay me more.”

  13. Flash-in-the-Panik's avatar Flash-in-the-Panik said, on October 25, 2014 at 3:43 pm

F-G talked about LF for the Giants I think yesterday/today. Argument goes, Morse is dreadful OF and has been all his career. Ishi is a converted 1b, and better OF than Morse but Perez is the best D OF and has hit well in minors last couple years. Having both Morse and Ishi available to PH off the bench a definite plus.
