A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Haiku Time

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on December 27, 2014

Shrouded in the darkness and cold of a post-Christmas/pre-New Year morning…..Juan Gutierrez has been resigned to a minor league deal. Not sure, but I think we’ve reached the bottom of the news barrel. And we all know what that means. It’s haiku time…

This one was written by Giants fan Steve Hermanos. It’s about Country Legend

Your expanding pants

Now accommodating balls

Big as tractor wheels

I forget when this started making the rounds on KNBR.I think it was mid October…..

Hey, don’t miss the link from MacDog’s end of previous thread for pix of Busy block sweaters in Giants colors (and a lot more). The Posey one, is um quite busy and the $$$ have gotta be a misprint.

Haft wrote some words on the Giants. I’m not going to link. Here’s the best part.

“It’s easy to forget that Bumgarner, 25, also delivered an outstanding regular-season performance. His total of 18 victories was the highest by a Giants pitcher since Shawn Estes had 19 in 1997. Bumgarner struck out 219 batters, the most in history by a Giants left-hander since the franchise moved to San Francisco in 1958. He made the NL All-Star team, won an NL Silver Slugger Award as the league’s best hitter among pitchers, captured the league’s Pitcher of the Month honors in May and August and was named the “Willie Mac Award” winner as the team’s most inspirational player.”

Bochy is signed through 2016. Cotts doesn’t have his contract $ numbers, but there’s info out there he might be making up to $5M/year. Is he worth more or less than Harbaugh? After winning 3 out of 5, you’d have a great argument he’s worth more, especially after how much $ the Giants have pulled in during and after these WS runs…

I’m just glad the drama and the trauma over who is butt hurt is over.
Kinda funny that Killion, who has complained loudest and longest since pre-season about everything from traffic, the yard and myriad dysfunction, wonders if things will get worse. Jed isn’t most inspiring CEO.

I just think Niners issues go a lot deeper than HC and are more complex. It’s never easy to keep winning group together and tough to build through draft and FA pick ups/trades.
And once any system has success, 30 others including those in division that see you often, are hard at work figuring out how to stop it. Niners lack of success in second half of games I think points to that and I do think Harbs has a fall back plan he is in love with that won’t work with players he has.

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on December 29, 2014 at 9:02 am

Yeah there were a ton of problems when Harbaugh came on board. Biggest was a mess of people trying to get on the same page. Eddie complained that there were too many from office types and no clear path of hierarchy or communicAtion. Winning masked those problems, for a while but it is now rearing its head again.

I don’t think they have a choice but to hire from within due to the mess upstairs.

The team is sti going to have a LOT of talent so that coould attract someone.
