Game Time Thread/Dodgers Suck My Balls
Just once I’d like the Giants to hammer a pitcher they “haven’t seen before.” Why not tonight? Unfortunately I fear that Maeda will be the next pitcher in a long line of first-start pitchers to bamboozle us.
I’m on board with everyone else being officially worried about the bullpen. One problem that Lopez might have— he’s underused. Probably could stand more innings to get a little tighter. And there’s no reason he can’t continue to be successful as a lefty specialist.
Huge start for Smarge tonight.
15 year anniversary of Barry blasting #500. I was at that game. Totally electric moment.
Flav, I have Posey, Utley, Crawford and Puig. I am the only one in contention that has four players left, so I am not sure how concerned I need to be with ownership percentage. I just need as many points as possible.
can you provide a link to that tourney? Not sure if I can access it if I’m not in it but maybe just being a DK member will allow me to. I’ve got nothing going on but NBA today and the Spurs game isn’t for another 25 min so I could definitely take a look and give you an opinion
I would send a link, but I am not near my computer, just my phone. Not sure if I can figure out how to do it either way.
ok, whatever. If you’re in 14th with those 4 guys to go I think you’re golden
35th place now, but still in pretty good position. I am sure whoever I pick will go 0 for 16 and knock me down a few hundred spots.
So you’re going to root for 3(?) Dodgers to light up the Giants tonight?
How can you look in the mirror?
pretty sure he’s talking about Brandon Crawford so technically that’s only 2. It’s easy to differentiate this shit if you play regularly. You can root for the Giants to win while still rooting for players on the other team to succeed. Depends on the moment of the game, obviously.Sounds weird, but it’s doable.
I saw several Barry homeruns in person, including some splash ones, but never one of the numerical landmark ones.
I was there for Gallarragha’s 495 foot shot, into the concession area below the big glove.
i never understood why the Giants stopped doing that “million dollar” promo for hitting the glove with a bomb. Seemed like a great gimmicky thing and like it was EVER gonna happen. Big Cat came closest I think
I think I saw 650 at Shea. It’s a round number I guess…
And 550.
I saw Bonds hit #70 to tie Big Mac in Houston. If there wasn’t an upper deck above me, it probably would have landed within feet of me.
In that video clip, Bonds’ teammates don’t run out to greet him at homeplate, and the media made something of that. That might be an unfair rap. His teammates might have just not wanted to steal the spotlight from him. It gave Barry time to walk around and soak in the crowd ovation by himself. And then family members run up and everyone can see it well because his teammates aren’t out there clogging up the scene. The teammates later heard the criticism and poured out of the dugout to greet him after all the other landmark HRs.
And it’s poignant seeing him greeted by the bat-girl, who some years later died in a tragic sailboat accident.
Richie Aurilia seemed to give him a pretty good hug.
Maeda is a nibbler. He relies on the ump giving him the corners.
Hard to see the pitches with the shadows.
I’m almost surprised there’s no stat on who hits well in shadows…
I am sure some asshole on DraftKings has it in his stat sheet.
Damnit Buster!
Wilco, what % owned were Tomas and Drury?
Both were 4.5%. That fucking home run by a likely lower owned Gosseit? didn’t help.
thanks. Still, under 5% is nice.
My first two guys couldn’t have worse at bats. Figures.
dude, you’re gonna be fine. I remember a game last year, I was 4 points off first place at DK and I had McCutchen in the Sun night game. He K’d twice, hit a dribbler back to the mound and got hit with a pitch. Never got a ball out of the infield. I still haven’t let that one go. lol.
I’ve been gambling my whole life.
It’s really not fun most of the time.
lol, true statement. There is a lot of pent up energy and internal angst that I could have done without—sweatin’ out photos at Bay Meadows is still one of the darkest times of my life.
That’s the truth, Loo.
Pence and Belt both were 3-0, and I really wanted to see one of ’em let it rip on the ensuing strike, but no.
I saw BB hit one homer live in his career. It was at Safeco Field, me and a buddy had box seats down the RF line, about even with Ichiro, maybe 10 rows back, and Felix Hernandez was on the mound. 97 mph heater, inner half and Bonds’ hands just flash through the zone, incredibly quick. He hits a soaring blast that basically flew right over our heads and way back in the RF bleachers. Ichiro literally doesn’t flinch, doesn’t take his hands off his knees to break back, it was hit that hard. A big boy’s homer to quote Kruk & Kuip.
The official measurement was 484 feet, IIRC. The crowd was buzzing for an inning after that. Everyone loved to hate Barry, loved to boo his ass mercilessly but they ALL wanted to see him do just what he did. I saw him play a few other times, but that was the only homer.
The Giants lost, of course. Why of course, you ask? Because I was there.
wilco, I noticed that earlier when Stros Tigers game was on earlier today—Altuve has 4 HRs.
park factor?
he’s 3 feet tall, goddamn right it’s a park factor. lqtm
You know what though? That dude hits some of the longest home runs when he gets ahold of them. I just checked now, last year he hit his career high of 15 homers. 9 were at home and 6 on the road. He hit one the other night onto the train tracks. The next night he hit one the other way to right center, one of the deepest parts of the yard. Yeah, the park is a factor but the little guy has some serious bat speed.
He’s a strong little fucker and he swings the bat as hard as anyone.
The guy in the power boat and the 20 foot long fish net swoops in like a great white shark to scoop up BB’s 500th. Do not get in his way.
Panik goes yard.
haha, no shit. Those are outlawed in the cove now, right?
Yeah, it was getting too dangerous out there. Buoys were put up to mark the “no motor” zone.
thought so. I don’t spend a lot of time out in “the cove” so I don’t keep track of these things.
LOL. I would hope so. That dude would’ve killed anyone in his path.
People always ask me how I could be a fan of Barry Bonds and I look at them like they just cut off their own dick. Is that even a real question? Barry is responsible for some of the greatest moments of joy in my life. He shot me out of whatever chair I was sitting in literally hundreds of times. He inspired more “fuck yeah’s!!!!” out of me than I could ever count. He’s one of my all time favorite players in any sport.
Another Pence dribbler, like someone said the other day. This one worked out…
a lot of them do man because he hustles them all out, but wow.
Last game I ever saw at the Stick, 8-8-95, hotter than hell day game in front of not many people, bonds homered in first AB to give Giants 2-0 lead for me and godson the now Diego fan.
Sergio Valdez and Mulholland then combined to give up 9 in second inning including long bomb to one Midre cummings, who hit 11 in his brief career.
We sat underneath overhang as SF lost 9-5 to Denny Neagle. Batting leadoff in CF for Giants—neon deion. One of gDusty’s lower points. Giants were 42-53 at that point.
Flav I just wanted to know if maybe Altuve was um, a little bulkier than might be expected…or had been hanging out with Triple O.
Concern and fears coming into the game about being shut down by a newbie pitcher just encountered a Panik attack.
The fantasy sports angst reminded me of a story I may have told on the Flap already. It was fantasy football in the early days, in the late 1980s. I was behind by two points going into Monday night. I had the Dolphins’ kicker; I would get whatever points he got that night. They were playing the Jets. This was in Dan Marino’s prime years, so getting three points for the win seemed like a lock. Well…..the Dolphins defense was horrible in those days. The Jets ran the ball down the Dolphins’ throats all night. The Dolphins couldn’t stop the run. The time of possession was outrageously in favor of the Jets. Marino was barely on the field all night. The Jets defense played the game of their lives. The Jets won 24-7, with the Dolphins’ kicker scoring one point, and I lost that week. Still remember the agony of it. Lqtm.
What I wrote above about the vitriol directed at BB from opposing fans is in stark contrast to the love he receives from SF fans. I’m with you , Flav, more great baseball moments from him than probably any other player. I can say unequivocally that he’s the greatest hitter I ever saw. The staggering numbers bear that out. And I’m talking about stuff like walking a guy with the bases loaded, 100 IBB and 200 BB in one year. No hitter has ever been feared like that. Not just a slugger but an incredibly smart hitter who lived in the heads of pitchers.
Duffy looks lost at the plate right now.
It’s deja vu all over again … Fuckin Casey McDuffy!
They should get Scully to read the posts from that Dodgers blog after a loss to the Giants.
lulz!
Or at least get Jon Miller to read them in his Scully voice (minus the Japanese interpretation).
Maybe next season to honor Vin Scully, they can have a day where every major league team wears a picture of a microphone on their back instead of their number…
Or dye their hair red ..or whatever.
lulz!
I’ve heard some snippets of Scully lately. He’s definitely slowed down, and speaks like an old guy, which he is. Maybe he should have retired last year. I fear he may be one of those guys that pretty much as soon as he retires, he’s gone. Maybe that’s his motivation to stay in the booth all these recent years…
I hate saying this but I’m starting to be sorry we let Adam Duval go.
Because…?
Underrated Beatle song…
With the Reds Duval has an .876 OPS .. Duffy .574
Time for a phantom injury for Duff? Arroyo at 3rd for a couple of weeks?
Bring back the Panda!
Haven’t won a title since he left…
Great pickup by Craw on the CS. Saved Posey’s bacon. And the double play started by Panik was the exact DP Tomlinson could not start last week. The one he got was even better with the harder hit ball. Huge drop off defensively when Panik’s not in there, at least with Adrianza out.
True true.
Over their careers there are seasons where a guy’s HRs spike. Aurillia had that monster year 2001 when he hit 37– only twice in 12 yrs with Giants beside that one did he hit more than 19.
A’s SS Bert Campaneris, base stealer supreme, hit 22 in 1970 and never hit double figures again in 19 yrs career.
And Giants shouldn’t feel bad about Arenado, as he hit 2 more today on road to beat Cubs.
A’s scored a run off Soria to beat Royals and take the weekend series from them.
There was something funny going on in 1970, Willie. Lots of guys had crazy numbers that they had never approached. Jim Hickman always come to mind but there were many others…
And just like that…
Was Duffy even a midlevel prospect? It seems to me that he came out of nowhere. Very possible last year was a “career year” and he doesn’t come close to that ever again. I hope I am wrong.
He’s looks more like a medieval prospect…
Duff came directly from AA. Yeah, I hope you are wrong too. I like Duffy. If something was to happen to Duff, who we got in Sac @ 3rd? Isn’t Arroyo at AA?
Fuck me for fading Peterson for Puig.
Is the woman in the ESPN booth making sense? Trying too hard? Both?
I just asked myself the same thing. WTF are you?!
I’m lurking in your brain…
I’m kind of undecided, but I prefer her rather than Schilling for sure.
I would take Schilling in a heartbeat. At least Schilling said shit that was interesting. Earlier, the other guys were going on about Justin Turner and his consistent abilty to “rake”. She then said “and he’s consistent”.
I think she also said “a rookie in his first year.” lol
I think she was a big shot fast pitch player.
Snarkk– (and others) you guys probably heard this but the way it reads is epic. I’m not a big Scully fan but he was on this night.
Magnificent! I remember that. I think he told it last year. I may stop making cracks about Scully now…
That is brilliant! Where does he come up with this shit? It’s not like he finds these cute little vignettes in the media guide. He has been telling these stories for years.
She reminds me of how my wife sometimes tries to join in on sports conversations with other guys. She basically just repeats really obvious points that others have already discussed.
I’m starting to obsess on everything she says…
WTF is going on? What happened to Roberto Kelly? Who is the fat dude in the Steve Decker jersey and why is he coaching third?
I’m waiting for the girl to surmise that Kelly was just traded…
I’m a pretty politically correct person but I’m off this ESPN chick. Don’t really like Renel either. It’s nothing personal to either of them, I just like a man’s voice for baseball. There are probably like 35 jokes that could follow this post so far so I’ll just stop now. 🙂
Loo your 6:31 is pure gold! What a fuckin evil premonition … and you are definitely dialed in tonite .. I’m a believer .. It could happen … Damn! what A shit storm that would be!
Smarge might try running that fucking thing out next time. WTF????
These stories are better than this fu King game
wtf is an *expert field dresser?”
Cutting up a hunted animal at the shooting site.
ha! that’s awesome. Makes the story 10X better knowing that. How did you know that.
From reading an article about Sarah Palin during the ’08 campaign, believe it or not. (grin)
that’s awesome.
there ya go Wilco, Puig gets you going a bit
I’ll take it.
The Bumgarner/snake story was told in Sports Illustrated first.
ooooh and a SB. What place are you in now?
I fell all the way to 91st and now I am 41st.
pffftttt. gonna need a bomb from Utley or Craw
did the chick just say “this doesn’t feel good” when Puig slid into 2nd base?
tough play for Posey to make, those catcher mitts are made for those type of catch-swipes.
The way this inning’s going, my guess is the errant throw that hit Kelly came from Posey.
So Roberto Kelly is out after getting hit by an errant throw? At least it wasn’t Brandon Belt.
Gal is terrible. Plus, you can’t fire her so now ESPN is stuck with her unless she decides to bolt.
The interview questions with Jansen were true AmyG useless too. Wtf are you doing on a baseball field in your strappy heeled sandals?
Letting Smarzg hit didn’t work out too well.
Think we need Twin back to chime in on the ESPN chick debate. Too many of us agreeing with each other.
Twin had a preference for very experienced male broadcasters. They’re the ones with all the stories…
true but he defended women in any capacity in any debate. Fat third basemen too
Lol
Huge play by Crawford!
I was never onboard with the pitcher batting 8th, and even less so now.
The woman is an idiot. Puig is out by 5′ at 2nd and 5′ at home if we make any kind of decent play.
What a shit game. Wasted opportunities all night. They take advantage of the few they’ve gotten.
Oshit was nice there tho. Got to hit the dog pen.
Bad breaks on not getting Puig out twice that inning.
Kiki cutter was a little before my time, DJ. Barbara Corcoran was damn good tho. Did I tell you about the time I met Claudine Longet?
Hi Chuck!
Kiki Cutter? I don’t know that one either. Kiki Vandegwhe I remember. His younger brother played volleyball at SDSU when I was there.
No, but I do vaguely remember the Spider Sabich (?) thing, right?
ch.
Yeah didn’t Claudine Longet murder Spider Sabich and walked on that one with good buddy ex Andy Williams lending his support for her in Aspen? Vail?
If I ran a baseball team, I would have one hard and fast rule: No Bunting. Ever.
Chick announcer isn’t bugging me too badly.
Last night’s game was a hoot. Not too many Giants fans there. It was beanie night and my son and I sold our beanies for $5 each on the way to the parking lot.
how bout faking the bunt and slapping the shit out of the ball past the 3rd baseman? Cause that seems like a money move to me.
Remember when David Eckstein hit a butcher boy home run? That little fucker could play.
Good comparison by Boone saying Seager looks like John Olerud. Though Olerud didn’t take as big of a rip as this guy does.
Olerud hit 255 bombs. That blows my mind, didn’t think he hit even half that.
Driving home from LA today I somehow got fixated on how many career bombs Mark Belanger hit. I have no idea how my mind got there.
I know for a fact Belanger hit his first ML homer in the same game Mantle hit his 500th. I was watching it on Mother’s Day about a half century ago. At least that’s how I remember it…
On a black & white Emerson…
that’s some pretty epic Belanger knowledge, Loo
Awesome! I guessed 13 and he actually hit 20.
Mrs Hooper stumbling down the stairs screaming “we’ve been robbed” only to find out she “ain’t got no rings” is still gold, IMO
I agree! Although one flaw in that whole concept that bugs me is that the next door neighbor State Farm agent looks too much like Kevin Love in the face. Too confusing.
ha, I’ll have to check that out. I’m not really down with all the *dimes* getting dropped and whatnot, I just think it’s funny as hell to see Deandre Jordan stumbling down the stairs freaking out about his rings that he doesn’t have that he got robbed of
I think dimes bit is moderately funny. Birds and bees one is awful. Paul bit you sited “you ain’t got no rings” is the high point in that series for sure.
who is the guy in the cool hat telling him, “sure don’t.” and then cracking on the smelly baby and pushing him away.
It’s KG–Kevin Garnett!
Re chick announcer…I was intrigued so i rewound and looked at the J petersen foul ball with her endless over analysis, then the massive homer. Exactly the same. For fun I brought the wife in to see if I was nitpicking. Looked the same. She is either an expert or tripping over herself to look smart. Either way it’s annoying…
Evidently Roberto Kelly was struck by an errant throw to his head between innings and Steve Decker took over for him. Concussion Protocol next?
He coaches third base like he’s had a concussion his entire career there. Twin wouldn’t like that joke either.
Should have gotten to Maeda when he was struggling early with command. Most everything he throws is mid 80s so he’s not gonna blow stuff by anyone. Let’s see if league catches up to his m-o.
I know plenty gals I can sit next to watching b-ball game at HS gym who are smart knowledgeable and funny.
Mendoza is none of the above.
Marv Albert is 74 fucking years old. It’s time to stop dying your hair, dawg…..
It’s a toupee. That came out in his biting abuse trial.
Do you remember his incredibly embarrassing public humiliation?
NY Post headline: “MARV GETS PINK SLIP”
and thanks Craig for the video. Bonds was just so much fun. Every at bat was so amazing you just had to watch…I was hooked in 93. I was at the 1st 3 games of the SF LA series at the end. The sat game one of the best ever. My favorite Giant (thrill ) and my new favorite put on a show I’ll remember forever. The only reason I wasnt at the last game is it was fan appreciation and I couldn’t get a ticket
dudes, Jordan just shot an airball from the free throw line. That’s nothing new. But he missed it completely right of the rim. I’ve never seen that before. It was like it was shot by a 3rd grade girl.
Right DJ. I lived in Aspen about 8 years after she accidentally shot Spider 6 times. No one had really gotten over it. She was hanging on by a wing, a prayer, and a sugar daddy.
Drinking alone most of the time.
Hey, dog! Glad you got to see the lone win of the LA series. Let’s go Hunter! Field dress that bitch.
Belt?
Oh well.1-5 sucks.
Duffy can really shut everyone up here…
I like the watching the Trailblazers. I used to hate them when I went to LC in Portland. Not really the players or the team but the fans. Hated the Portland fans…….
Really? I always liked their warmups and unis, with the long stripe going from one shoulder to opposite hip in black and red.
The Clippers are truly annoying. They could give Warriors some trouble, as they have size and their Gs can all shoot and score. Crawford never seems to miss vs. GS.
I thought Utah would have been tougher match up for Warriors than Rockets. Curry and Thompson destroyed Harden and Beverly in first half. Howard can’t handle Ezeli, lol. Or Speights.
I was all in on LaRue Martin…
I don’t like Duffy batting ahead of Crawford. I know Boch likes the Left/Right/left thing.
Fuck LA!!!
I think Duffy is gonna be fine.
Of course, I also thought McGehee was gonna be fine…
Since Blade’s not here: Pfffffffffffffffffffft.
Only Blade seems to know the correct number of “f”s to use.
He is truly the Pffffftmaster…
that’s true. I appreciate Mac’s effort but it fell flat when considering the *pfffffffttttt fucking MASTER*. If I’m reading his facebook page right, Blade’s on his way back to the States as we speak.
Yeah, I guess some things are better left for the Pffffftmaster.
Loo, me and San Dawg are meeting at Del Mar in July, you should fly out there and meet up with us. Gamble. Beers. Good times.
by the way, that goes for any of you guys, if you’re planning on being in SD in middle of July and want to hook up at the track, send me an email.
Sounds awesome. I’ll run it by the gang at my GA & AA meetings this week…
perfect. If you can somehow lure Buzzsaw out of hibernation, the first 30 beers are on me….
You deliver Loo and I WILL build my summer around that shin dig.
if I got to hang out with you and Loo at the Del Mar track betting on the horses and drinking beers while our abs glistened in the summer sun and we fended off the ladies who would be drawn to us like bees to a fucking honey stick…..I dunno, that could be the end of the line for me. Pinnacle of life shit. I gotta stop thinking about it or it might turn me insane by dawn…..
Well, we didn’t get swept.
And speaking of chopping up snakes, got 4 with AZ at home.
Legend has it the Kings were all set to draft Damian Lillard, but they thought Thomas Robinson would never still be on the board.
Damian and DMC would have been something else. Then again, DeMarcus might have driven him out of town like he did Isaiah Thomas.
I don’t understand why Thomas Robinson doesn’t get a chance to start somewhere. Every time he hits the court he balls.
Is he still in the league? He was awful in Sactown.
yes, he had some monster games with Brooklyn as the season wound down and either Brook Lopez or T-Young were injured or *resting*
The Blazers took Lillard with the pick (6th overall) they got from the Nets in exchange for Gerald Wallace, another Billy King special.
Out here we call it the “Billy Owens” special.
