Another Rain Game
It’s another “Uh oh, Matt Cain pray for rain” game. We are going to have a little weather in the Bay today but not enough to halt Cain’s ascension to the mound this evening. So, unfortunately, the only thing *raining* will be Colorado hitters raining bombs down on vulnerable fans in the bleachers.
Krukow has the KNBR morning show today at 7:30am so if you want to hear some of his best blather about Peavy you should tune in. I think you can stream it. I’ll listen to it in my car on the way to work and chime in about it later.
Hey, if he gets blasted that’s now 40% of the starting rotation that can no longer be ignored. And my main man BigTimeTimmyJimJim has his showcase tomorrow. Just something to think about……
I hope that doesn’t happen – the bombs that is. Actually, it doesn’t fit the Sherpas road MO, as usually they go limp dick on the road offensively. However, their pitching has actually improved in the last week or so, with Chatwood, Bettis, and Rusin all having fairly good outings. With the Rockies, they almost always “win” April, May and even sometimes, June . . . but then fall apart like a cheap Hong Kong suit by the All Star break.
just heard that mlb network AND comcast will carry the showcase tomorrow with Estes commenting, live, on what he sees from Timmy. That is unbelievable!
Flavor, KNBR on the dial is (850?) ????
680
I do not believe they will be doing anything live on KNBR. The live feed will be on the boob tube, via MLB Network, or via CSNBA. I believe the CSNBA feed will have the commentary by Estes, as he is an in studio analyst for them. I also believe it is at 2:30 PM. I plan to record that bad boy.
live feed on KNBR was for the Kuip morning show, not the showcase.
Gotcha. Thanks, Craig.
Peavy and Cain have a combined record of 1-6. Yikes.
Even if their w-l was a sub-mediocre 3-4 the Giants would be alone atop the NLW.
Ideal way to have done TL signing would be minor league deal–he goes to Sac, throws 3 games X amount of innings or pitch count, you evaluate then, in order to determine what you have/what he could add.
This would be truer test, even vs. AAA hitters, than Friday.
You’re talking about someone coming off surgery and 4 consecutive down seasons that neither Bochy Rags nor Posey could remedy.
Here’s some comp stats of 2015 for Peavy (SF) and TL
P: 110 IP 3.58 ERA 1.12 WHIP 2.0 BB 3.1 K/BB
T: 75 IP 4.13 ERA 1.48 WHIP 4.5 BB 1.6 K/BB
According to headline on Ann Killion column in Chron, “Lincecum is needed in Giants uniform”.
Wow that settles it for me. If she’s for it, it’s f-ing wrong.
If he has truly recovered, and his stuff is good, I don’t think he would have agreed to that. If the Giants like what they see, and can negotiate something he accepts, then I do believe he will go to Sac to get ready for his next debut in the bigs.
“If she’s for it, it’s f-ing wrong.”
lulz
one of the rooms at gym where I do cardio with TV has it on Fox news. They have all these hot babes that are just toxic to listen to. One blonde this morning defending Trump as “loose cannon” said Clinton doesn’t know how to deal with him and is, “terrified” lol.
Agree absolutely Willie. Maybe it’s just me, but CNN, FOX, and ESPN more times than not detract from their broadcasts by placing some air head bimbo beauty queen in front of the camera. Frankly, it’s a distraction . . . I can tell they are reading from a teleprompter or memorizing a script.
Give me Dan Rather, Judy Woodruff, Lesley Stahl, Charles Osgood, Christine Amanpour, Gwen Ifil, Tim Russert, etc., who have EARNED their spurs.
I am with you, Blade. I just won’t listen to some of these dipshits. They are an insult to human intelligence…something they obviously lack!
Another thing re: the whole Timmy thing that was discussed this morning, is even if his shit looks really good, and he and the Giants work out an agreement, it will take him probably a few weeks to truly get ready. So, what to do in the meantime re: Peavy. Bottom line, I see no way that Peavy is NOT trotted out there again for his next start. I have not seen the box score for the River Kitties last night, but I heard that Heston got rocked.
Heston 5 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 4 K at Albuquerque.
Well, Hesto Presto is not the short-term answer. For this reason, that is why I think Peavy gets trotted out one more time. Plus, his next start will be at home (Toronto, on Monday night). I like his chances better in the sweeping confines of the Phone Park, as opposed to one of those silly-assed band boxes like Cincy.
Snarrk, thanks for sharing that article about Timmy on the previous thread . . . Although Tim has not had arm or shoulder problems to the best of my knowledge, I was still impressed with the “walking on the hands” routine he does. Prior to my shoulder and bicep surgery in 2008, I could do that too, but not anymore. The tremendous torque, as well as balance required is something I won’t chance with my repaired shoulder anymore (although, I can still do sets of handstand pushups against a wall). Any who, Tim’s a very strong athletic guy for 170 lbs. I still remember that one game we both went to where Timmy was a natural playing outfield during Giants batting practice.
Speaking of handstands. I used to take Chinese Kenpo lessons with a guy in Rancho Cordova (my active duty days at Mather AFB), and this dude could push himself up from a cross-legged sitting position, into a handstand, and then pump out a few pushups (without anything to balance him). It was an amazing thing to see. Unfortunately, a few years later, he died way too early from cancer. Fucking cancer! RIP, Pat McClellan.
Kuip had the morning show today, not Kruk. He, predictably, pointed to the 8 k’s as evidence that there’s hope. I would counter with the Reds being basically a AAA line up and anyone should be able to get 8 k’s out of them. If Adam Duvall is playing regularly you know you’re dealing with essentially a AAA line up.
I missed it (walking my mom’s 2 dogs). Flannery last night came close to saying there was no hope for Peavy, citing the piss-poor velocity and saying something about “the hitters knowing.”
Yeah, I think he is done. But again, I don’t see any short-term alternatives. I bet you dollars to donuts Peavy makes his next start (Monday against the Jays at home). In the meantime, I am anxious to see Timmy’s roadshow session.
Brian Murphy mentioned talking to Tim’s dad, and his dad said something to the effect that it was going to be a “Fucking Spectacle” or something to that effect (given all the press and pub it is attracting).
Regardless, I cannot wait to see it go down. I am rooting BIG TIME, for Big Time Timmy Jim! 55!
have you priced donuts lately?
lulz. Touché, Eric.
just got into a debate with a dude at work about what’s the most HR’s ever hit out of the 9 hole by a single player in a season. He thinks Marcus Semien will break whatever the record is (he has 7 right now). I don’t know how to find who currently holds the record, you guys got any idea?
Sounds like Semien will do it. Seven is the record I think . . . https://prestonjg.wordpress.com/2013/03/09/a-history-of-pitchers-not-batting-ninth-and-the-managers-who-did-it-most-often/
Did no pitcher ever hit more than 7 in a season????
I heard krukow talking on KNBR yesterday and he was talking about Samardzija but he had something interesting that he said: you don’t want a guy going out there that needs the right park on the right day with the right wind and the right pitches and the right batters.
That sounded like Peavey’s recipe for success!
Edd – good to see you! On this occasion, I agree with Kruk.
Yeah, sounds like Krukow was using a backhanded way to talk about Peavy and Cain.
What’s in the pipeline for starters? Best to date is Joan Gregorio, 24, with Richmond. In 4 starts the 6’7″, 180 lb Dominican beanpole has a 0-1 record (Cained) on a 2.05 ERA with 12 knocks and 5 earnies in 22 IP. His 5 walks are overmatched by 27 K’s amounting to a .162 BAA and a 0.77 WHIP. Doubtful if he is on the 40-man, but neither is the guy with the best record at Sac-ville, Al Suarez, who has been kicking around in a pipeline or two for some little while.
Blade and Chi, Sounds like you guys know some extreme calisthenics. I was searching YouTube for exercises for my lower back and such and came across this guy’s videos. His name is Frank Medrano. check out his videos, he is one agile dude and strong too.
On my best day ever (late 20s), this guy would destroy me . . . then kick sand in my face. lulz
ha ha yeah, he is one bad boy!!
Yeah, me too!
.
Blade…Christian Amanpour????? That is where I draw the line. She is an outright America hater.
Dan Rather at least I will agree h eve as a real reporter first but then used his position for political attacks rather than reporting.
Tim Russert was the real deal. He actually came to a friend’s funeral, someone who was a former NBC lobbyist and Russert and his family attended the same Georgetown church as my wife’s family, as did long time CBS reporter Bill Platt, who was also very friendly. I’ve run into Luke Russert a couple of times and very down to earth…
The whole arena of reporting has become infotainment. Neowadays there aren’t enough independent news orgs out there. 6 companies control 95% of the output. When Al Jazeera is out-reporting all the US-based news agencies, you have a problem.
Well, actually you don’t because 99.99% of the people don’t see anything but what these 6 put forth. Even the internet is being taken over by the big boys. Radio has been for a while now.
When news departments got rolled up into the entertainment division, that was the knell for in-depth reporting. Well, that and Rupert Murdoch taking over Fox. CNN is s running joke, and MSNBC couldn’t be more irrelevant.
NWO mind-control projects are in 5th gear.
IMO the only news source that is regularly worth a shit, and seems the least biased, is NPR.
Do remember a guy named Butch Hobson playing for Boston back in 1977 78, 79 hit a shit load of homers ( well 17,30,28)and I believe he batted 9th..
DH don’t count.
At least I think it don’t . . .
I asked above whether any pitcher had hit more than 7 in a year???
Why wouldn’t it count Chuck?
They still penciled him in batting 9th every game. DH or not( cause I think he played 3rd as well..
Oh, I was looking at Flav’s original post re, uh. Shit. Nevermind. I fucked this all up.
9 is the record for a pitcher. Will Ferrell’s dad Wes Ferrell.
I saw Drysdale hit 7 in ’65.
This list is old, Bummie made the list last year with 5:
Wes Ferrell 9 1931 Cleveland Indians
Don Drysdale (1, 2) 7 1958/1965 Los Angeles Dodgers
Wes Ferrell (2, 3) 7 1933/1935 Cleveland Indians/Boston Red Sox
Don Newcombe 7 1955 Los Angeles Dodgers
Earl Wilson 7 1968 Detroit Tigers
Mike Hampton 7 2001 Colorado Rockies
Jack Harshman 6 1956/1958 Chicago White Sox/Baltimore Orioles
Ferguson Jenkins 6 1971 Chicago Cubs
Sonny Siebert 6 1971 Boston Red Sox
Earl Wilson (2, 3) 6 1965/1966 Boston Red Sox
Rick Wise 6 1971 Philadelphia Phillies
Carlos Zambrano 6 2006 Chicago Cubs
Don Cardwell 5 1960 Philadelphia Phillies
Tony Cloninger 5 1966 Atlanta Braves
Don Drysdale (3) 5 1961 Los Angeles Dodgers
Bob Gibson (1, 2) 5 1965/1972 St. Louis Cardinals
Bob Lemon 5 1956 Cleveland Indians
Art Nehf 5 1924 New York Giants
Blue Moon Odom 5 1969 Oakland Athletics
Earl Wilson (4) 5 1964 Boston Red Sox
Hey, slow day at work:
In 1996, Kevin Elster hit 21 home runs from the 9 hole.
Most Home Runs in a Season, From Each Spot in the Batting Order (1916-2013)
#1 spot: Alfonso Soriano (2006) 39 homers
#2 spot: Eddie Mathews (1959) 46
#3 spot: Mark McGwire (1998) 69
#4 spot: Hack Wilson (1930) 56
#5 spot: Jimmie Foxx (1932) 58
#6 spot: Troy Glaus (2000) 39
#7 spot: Howard Johnson (1987) 28
#8 spot: Del Crandall (1955) 22
#9 spot: Kevin Elster (1996) 21
Elster, he of the 3-homerun day on the very first opening day of AT&T Park. Everyone thought: “Wow, this park is a bandbox!” Ha!
I was there Zumiee…that was painful to watch. And it was the fucking Bumbinos of la la land to boot!
thanks for doing this!
I’ve always found Christiane Amanpour to be a brilliant, unbiased, and brave reporter, who has risked her life several times being in some scary places around the world. She’s like a holdover from a previous generation.
Thank you Zumiee . . . I was about to fire off a response, but your comment says it all. One other thing GH, show me evidence where she said, “I hate America.” Not going to locate such a statement, because to the best of my knowledge, she wouldn’t say anything imbecilic like that.
I concur. Hates America (GiantHead’s earlier comment)? I don’t see/get that at all.
Hey, under Bush, I wasn’t very happy with America.
Does Duane Kuiper count for the least HR’s by a starting 2nd basemen in history?
Yeah it’s a slow day….
Man I bet to this day Steve Stone still gets razzed on that one-time jack by the Kuiperster!!
1. Denard Span (L) CF
2. Matt Duffy (R) 3B
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Mac Williamson (R) LF
7. Kelby Tomlinson (R) 2B
8. Gregor Blanco (L) RF
9. Matt Cain (R) P
Lisle’s “guy” bombs away again
Bleep.
Why not just put it on a tee?
fucking so sick of 40% of our starting rotation.
Peavy and Cain?
Giants must be insane.
And if Rusin’s recent outings aren’t a mirage, the Giants are in for a long night. F%cK!
Jesus. I miss 5 mins and it’s 3 zip?
Another snot rocketeer as well.
Peavy and Cain?
Games down the drain . . .
Hell yeah!
How the hell do we replace 2 starters? Peavy looks to be toast and Cain is browning fast.
There you go. Belt just missed that.
Does Williamson ever hit a ball hard?
Giants minor league outfielders….what can you say?
I think he hit one off the LF wall yesterday.
In BP . . .
Fucking 1-2 and he drops the hammer.
What’s Posey telling him? You suck?
Loud contact. Fuck.
Fuck! First, I was getting ready to head out to throw some things on the grill, and Cain gets rocked. Then he give up another in the 2nd. At least the Giants got a couple. Cain? Peavy? Fuck!
Cain might catch up to Peavy’s 9.00 ERA tonight.
Cain is treading in Zito waters, without a board.
He’s terrible. WTF are they going to do; $35 Million worth of #4 and #5 guys, and they both pitch like #8s…
Flemming said something about Cain’s “mistake pitches,” which I’m guessing is anything that leaves his hand.
The problem is every single batter gets a least one every AB.
If Timmeh looks good tomorrow, Giants fans will be rioting for Sabes to sign him…
Besides 40% of our rotation being putrid, Bochy cobbles together 2/3 of our starting LU, as Pagan, Panik and Pence are the walking wounded brigade.
Welcome to SF, Denard . . .
Timmy probably senses his negotiating leverage increasing by the minute. By the time Cain exits in the 4th inning, Big Time Timmy Jim will be asking for his usual $22 million per year.
Cain has nothing on his pitches, their just easy treats for batters to consume.
Shit a good portion of the Flap attack can rake Cain&Peavy right now.
Duffster is back on the bricks. .235. Oh Lord.
If he throws those curveballs anymore, they’ll be rocketing out of the yard.
I think Colo is getting tired from swinging and running so hard. The old rope-a-dope. I hope.
With those 3 peas in a pod, Panik, Pence and Pagan, out but coming back soon, it is pretty nice to see Span heating up. Maybe the offense will need to carry the team every 4th and 5th game.
Holy shit. Sending Posey was not very smart there Roberto.
Kelly sucks!
Fuck. No idea what the 3rd base coach was thinking sending Posey, especially on Cargo, who’s an outstanding outfielder.
Is Kelly brain dead?
Wow. How to kill an inning.
Idiot Kelly.
Worst Thirdbase Coach In MLB.
Apparently not everyone interprets “average speed at best” as ironic.
They need to move Charlie Hayes over there. Or me. Or Chi . . .
I’d take Wendell Kim > Kelly right now and I don’t care how bad that sounds.
Fucking Kelly,
How many times have you hung out Posey at the plate you moron????
Get a clue out there who’s running the bases!! God I miss Flannery!!
That was so blatant, that Bochy needs to think seriously about finding another 3rd base coach.
They should have a 3B coach audition as Timmy’s opening act tomorrow…
I’m down with that. Also, after they sign Timmy, have a Peavy “release party.”
They couldn’t be worse than Kelly.
Man, that was stupid. You can’t have a 3b coach who’s that terrible.
he’s one of the worst ever.
Jesus. They got some arms there in Colo.
Nice. Great “afterburner” speed Specs.
It’s like he makes no distinction for the situation at all, for all the factors involved. The zero outs, alone, should have been enough to hold Posey.
Still talking about Kelly. Man, that steamed me.
Exactly. The biggest factor though is still Buster . . .
And it almost got him injured.
Come on Gregor. . . Well . . .
Cain needs to do himself some good.
how bout we just release Kelly and promote Peavy to 3rd base coach?
Bingo.
Giants should minimally be tied with the Sherpas, probably ahead. Unfuckingbelievable if we lose to this team. Don’t they realize that I comment at the Denver Post frequently? I’ll have to hide out for a few weeks if they lose this series. Ugh. 🙂
Last weekend I spent an intensive couple of days at a corporate retreat at a resort in Batam, Indonesia, all the top managers of the Singapore company that owns my university in Saigon. Team building blah blah blah, etc., but also orders to revamp our program, cut costs, etc. The CEO kept using the word “disrupt”: we must disrupt the status quo, etc. That’s all well and good for those of us (knock on wood) who are “safe”, but for those who will be “disrupted” (euphemism for getting sacked), not so good. I think Giants Nation (and especially Flap Universe) would feel a whole lot better to see G’s management disrupt the status quo re: pitchers 4 and 5 and add Kelly to that list. Such disruption generally ain’t the Giants Way, but it’s pretty obvious to most of us that a bit of it might be needed and useful even (or maybe especially) at this early point of the season….
Wasted days and wasted . . opportunities . . . Balk!!
Kelly’s telling Specs freeze on a wild pitch..
Made me laugh. 🙂
5 mionuintes between pitches?
Yeah, almost like newly weds fighting.
oh fuck me.
Hang ’em and bang ’em.
Matt “Mistake Pitch” Cain.
You’ve got to be kidding me. You bet your ass it was a hanger, Kruk. That’s a fucking beach ball.
More like a zeppelin…
