A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Another Rain Game

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 5, 2016

It’s another “Uh oh, Matt Cain pray for rain” game. We are going to have a little weather in the Bay today but not enough to halt Cain’s ascension to the mound this evening. So, unfortunately, the only thing *raining* will be Colorado hitters raining bombs down on vulnerable fans in the bleachers.

Krukow has the KNBR morning show today at 7:30am so if you want to hear some of his best blather about Peavy you should tune in. I think you can stream it. I’ll listen to it in my car on the way to work and chime in about it later.

Hey, if he gets blasted that’s now 40% of the starting rotation that can no longer be ignored. And my main man BigTimeTimmyJimJim has his showcase tomorrow. Just something to think about……

I hope that doesn’t happen – the bombs that is. Actually, it doesn’t fit the Sherpas road MO, as usually they go limp dick on the road offensively. However, their pitching has actually improved in the last week or so, with Chatwood, Bettis, and Rusin all having fairly good outings. With the Rockies, they almost always “win” April, May and even sometimes, June . . . but then fall apart like a cheap Hong Kong suit by the All Star break.

I do not believe they will be doing anything live on KNBR. The live feed will be on the boob tube, via MLB Network, or via CSNBA. I believe the CSNBA feed will have the commentary by Estes, as he is an in studio analyst for them. I also believe it is at 2:30 PM. I plan to record that bad boy.

Even if their w-l was a sub-mediocre 3-4 the Giants would be alone atop the NLW.

  4. willedav's avatar willedav said, on May 5, 2016 at 7:44 am

Ideal way to have done TL signing would be minor league deal–he goes to Sac, throws 3 games X amount of innings or pitch count, you evaluate then, in order to determine what you have/what he could add.
This would be truer test, even vs. AAA hitters, than Friday.
You’re talking about someone coming off surgery and 4 consecutive down seasons that neither Bochy Rags nor Posey could remedy.

Here’s some comp stats of 2015 for Peavy (SF) and TL
    P: 110 IP 3.58 ERA 1.12 WHIP 2.0 BB 3.1 K/BB
    T: 75 IP 4.13 ERA 1.48 WHIP 4.5 BB 1.6 K/BB

According to headline on Ann Killion column in Chron, “Lincecum is needed in Giants uniform”.
Wow that settles it for me. If she’s for it, it’s f-ing wrong.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on May 5, 2016 at 8:01 am

If he has truly recovered, and his stuff is good, I don’t think he would have agreed to that. If the Giants like what they see, and can negotiate something he accepts, then I do believe he will go to Sac to get ready for his next debut in the bigs.

Agree absolutely Willie. Maybe it’s just me, but CNN, FOX, and ESPN more times than not detract from their broadcasts by placing some air head bimbo beauty queen in front of the camera. Frankly, it’s a distraction . . . I can tell they are reading from a teleprompter or memorizing a script.

Give me Dan Rather, Judy Woodruff, Lesley Stahl, Charles Osgood, Christine Amanpour, Gwen Ifil, Tim Russert, etc., who have EARNED their spurs.

Another thing re: the whole Timmy thing that was discussed this morning, is even if his shit looks really good, and he and the Giants work out an agreement, it will take him probably a few weeks to truly get ready. So, what to do in the meantime re: Peavy. Bottom line, I see no way that Peavy is NOT trotted out there again for his next start. I have not seen the box score for the River Kitties last night, but I heard that Heston got rocked.

    • Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on May 5, 2016 at 9:41 am

Well, Hesto Presto is not the short-term answer. For this reason, that is why I think Peavy gets trotted out one more time. Plus, his next start will be at home (Toronto, on Monday night). I like his chances better in the sweeping confines of the Phone Park, as opposed to one of those silly-assed band boxes like Cincy.

Snarrk, thanks for sharing that article about Timmy on the previous thread . . . Although Tim has not had arm or shoulder problems to the best of my knowledge, I was still impressed with the “walking on the hands” routine he does. Prior to my shoulder and bicep surgery in 2008, I could do that too, but not anymore. The tremendous torque, as well as balance required is something I won’t chance with my repaired shoulder anymore (although, I can still do sets of handstand pushups against a wall). Any who, Tim’s a very strong athletic guy for 170 lbs. I still remember that one game we both went to where Timmy was a natural playing outfield during Giants batting practice.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on May 5, 2016 at 9:58 am

Speaking of handstands. I used to take Chinese Kenpo lessons with a guy in Rancho Cordova (my active duty days at Mather AFB), and this dude could push himself up from a cross-legged sitting position, into a handstand, and then pump out a few pushups (without anything to balance him). It was an amazing thing to see. Unfortunately, a few years later, he died way too early from cancer. Fucking cancer! RIP, Pat McClellan.

  8. Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on May 5, 2016 at 8:41 am

Kuip had the morning show today, not Kruk. He, predictably, pointed to the 8 k’s as evidence that there’s hope. I would counter with the Reds being basically a AAA line up and anyone should be able to get 8 k’s out of them. If Adam Duvall is playing regularly you know you’re dealing with essentially a AAA line up.

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on May 5, 2016 at 8:47 am

I missed it (walking my mom’s 2 dogs). Flannery last night came close to saying there was no hope for Peavy, citing the piss-poor velocity and saying something about “the hitters knowing.”

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on May 5, 2016 at 10:01 am

Yeah, I think he is done. But again, I don’t see any short-term alternatives. I bet you dollars to donuts Peavy makes his next start (Monday against the Jays at home). In the meantime, I am anxious to see Timmy’s roadshow session.

Brian Murphy mentioned talking to Tim’s dad, and his dad said something to the effect that it was going to be a “Fucking Spectacle” or something to that effect (given all the press and pub it is attracting).

Regardless, I cannot wait to see it go down. I am rooting BIG TIME, for Big Time Timmy Jim! 55!

In 4 starts the 6’7″, 180 lb Dominican beanpole has a 0-1 record (Cained) on a 2.05 ERA with 12 knocks and 5 earnies in 22 IP. His 5 walks are overmatched by 27 K’s amounting to a .162 BAA and a 0.77 WHIP. Doubtful if he is on the 40-man, but neither is the guy with the best record at Sac-ville, Al Suarez, who has been kicking around in a pipeline or two for some little while.

Blade…Christian Amanpour????? That is where I draw the line. She is an outright America hater.

Dan Rather at least I will agree h eve as a real reporter first but then used his position for political attacks rather than reporting.

Tim Russert was the real deal. He actually came to a friend’s funeral, someone who was a former NBC lobbyist and Russert and his family attended the same Georgetown church as my wife’s family, as did long time CBS reporter Bill Platt, who was also very friendly. I’ve run into Luke Russert a couple of times and very down to earth…

The whole arena of reporting has become infotainment. Neowadays there aren’t enough independent news orgs out there. 6 companies control 95% of the output. When Al Jazeera is out-reporting all the US-based news agencies, you have a problem.

Well, actually you don’t because 99.99% of the people don’t see anything but what these 6 put forth. Even the internet is being taken over by the big boys. Radio has been for a while now.

When news departments got rolled up into the entertainment division, that was the knell for in-depth reporting. Well, that and Rupert Murdoch taking over Fox. CNN is s running joke, and MSNBC couldn’t be more irrelevant.

    Kelly sucks!

  51. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on May 5, 2016 at 8:18 pm

Fuck. No idea what the 3rd base coach was thinking sending Posey, especially on Cargo, who’s an outstanding outfielder.

I’d take Wendell Kim > Kelly right now and I don’t care how bad that sounds.

  58. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on May 5, 2016 at 8:21 pm

    Fucking Kelly,
How many times have you hung out Posey at the plate you moron????
Get a clue out there who’s running the bases!! God I miss Flannery!!

  59. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on May 5, 2016 at 8:22 pm

That was so blatant, that Bochy needs to think seriously about finding another 3rd base coach.

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on May 5, 2016 at 8:24 pm

They should have a 3B coach audition as Timmy’s opening act tomorrow…

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on May 5, 2016 at 8:25 pm

I’m down with that. Also, after they sign Timmy, have a Peavy “release party.”

      • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on May 5, 2016 at 8:26 pm

They couldn’t be worse than Kelly.

  60. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on May 5, 2016 at 8:25 pm

Man, that was stupid. You can’t have a 3b coach who’s that terrible.

    Nice. Great “afterburner” speed Specs.

  63. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on May 5, 2016 at 8:30 pm

It’s like he makes no distinction for the situation at all, for all the factors involved. The zero outs, alone, should have been enough to hold Posey.

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on May 5, 2016 at 8:31 pm

Still talking about Kelly. Man, that steamed me.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on May 5, 2016 at 8:31 pm

Exactly. The biggest factor though is still Buster . . .

how bout we just release Kelly and promote Peavy to 3rd base coach?

  67. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on May 5, 2016 at 8:32 pm

Giants should minimally be tied with the Sherpas, probably ahead. Unfuckingbelievable if we lose to this team. Don’t they realize that I comment at the Denver Post frequently? I’ll have to hide out for a few weeks if they lose this series. Ugh. 🙂

Last weekend I spent an intensive couple of days at a corporate retreat at a resort in Batam, Indonesia, all the top managers of the Singapore company that owns my university in Saigon. Team building blah blah blah, etc., but also orders to revamp our program, cut costs, etc. The CEO kept using the word “disrupt”: we must disrupt the status quo, etc. That’s all well and good for those of us (knock on wood) who are “safe”, but for those who will be “disrupted” (euphemism for getting sacked), not so good. I think Giants Nation (and especially Flap Universe) would feel a whole lot better to see G’s management disrupt the status quo re: pitchers 4 and 5 and add Kelly to that list. Such disruption generally ain’t the Giants Way, but it’s pretty obvious to most of us that a bit of it might be needed and useful even (or maybe especially) at this early point of the season….
