Mid Season Makeover
Wow, what would the Duffy reaction be if he’d actually been playing? Doesn’t him being on the shelf for months ease some of this devastation? I am totally fine with trading him for Moore, I actually think it was a fantastic move–one the Giants literally never make. I liked Duffy but Wilco made a great point about the Willie Mac winners. Great guys, not always the greatest ballplayers. And I am standing by my Matt Moore call—coming back from TJ can take a little time. This guy is going to be a rock solid #2. Maybe not right away but even in his current state, and the move to AT&T will obviously be a plus, he is going to literally change the entire look of our flailing, unreliable rotation. And I don’t know about the rest of you, but we can win this year. And I want to win this year. These moves allow us to hit a re-start button of sorts….
Lisle (and others) made a great point about Duffy easing the transition of The Fat Panda Exit and in the end I think that will be his greatest contribution to the Giants. But come on, he wasn’t even playing. Now we get Nunie who is better AND Matt Moore? Shit, I’m all in. I personally think DuffMan is going to go on the have a very underwhelming career but will be happy to be wrong. But the bottom line is that I really don’t care how he does going forward. Sorry, I am not a DuffHead. I kinda understand why some of you are though. Is it a cat thing? Does fat Skeeter leaving factor into any of this? lulz.
I am beyond excited about this bold makeover. This was a win-now move by the front office and it’s a move with an eye to the future too. How often do you get both?
GH, I’m playing Big Meadow today, Glaze tomorrow and then my sister’s club in Bend (I forget the name) on Thurs or Friday.
GH/WJ/etc…Bandon Dunes (I’ve never played it) is tough links golf on the coast, Central Oregon golf is much easier. Anyway, here’s a link and there are 2 vids of BM and Glaze if you’re interested in seeing them. I spent my summers as a kid playing golf here nearly every day. Love this place.

Gorgeous course. Designed by the great Robert Muir Graves who coincidentally designed the little nine hole Diablo Hills golf course in Walnut Creek, where I grew up playing golf with my dad.
For you Bay Area golfers, one of my all time favorite golf courses is a hidden gem in the Russian River. The Northwood Golf club was designed by Dr. Alister Mackenzie, who designed the famed Augusta Golf Club. It’s a short nine holer set amongst some of those majestic redwoods. It’s super affordable, in great shape, and those redwoods are something to behold. Highly recommend playing it in the summer when it’s 100 degrees inland. You just can’t beat the weather in the Russian River.
Very cool will check it out…would be interesting when you get a chance to get the Cardinals fans reaction to our moves and their Cards staying pat…
Flav, cool videos of the course. I’ve never been to the state and had no idea the central part of the state is as green. I take it those are mostly pine trees. Reminds me a little of golf in South Carolina club Sage Valley near Augusta and Georgia border. Pine trees everywhere.
Encouraging FG column about Matt Moore.

Hey blade I have a non baseball question for you. I’m about to come into a a bit of money and would like to invest some into the stock market. What advice can you give me as a green noob with a barely rudimentary understanding of the stock market? Are any of these trading seminars useful?
S&P Index mutual fund. However, wait until a downturn occurs. Currently the S&P is at 2158. Way too high in my opinion, i.e., I see a correction occurring (perhaps this month). My advice is to wait until the next level of resistance is achieved – approximately 1810 to 1830.
A mutual fund spreads the risk of investment and the only one I would invest in is that indexed to the S&P. Hold on one second and I will give you one to research.
This is the one I am thinking of . . . http://money.cnn.com/quote/mutualfund/mutualfund.html?symb=INDEX
However, there are many such funds. Almost forgot, do your due diligence before making any investment decision. I have been wrong many times. I have a combination of individual stocks, mutual funds, and money market instruments (treasuries, bonds, etc., where I park my money) I invest in. Diversification is the key.
Thanks! I will check these out.
I need a clarification sfsarge – do you mean “trading” or “investment” seminars? If the former, I would especially STAY AWAY. Very few people make any money trading the market. Here is a good article on “stock market trading jones” which is hazardous to your financial well being . . .
https://www.thestreet.com/story/11800120/1/kass-the-stock-market-trading-jones.html
Also, both types of seminars have one goal in mind – to get you to invest with them (the people overseeing the seminar). For this reason alone, I would not attend due to these ulterior motives. It’s best to do your own homework and/or take a college course(s) related to investing. Get a low cost fees trading account with TDAmeritrade, etc., when you’re ready to invest and you’ll be safe, as long as you’re not “churning” your investments every day. By the by, they all will contact you – TD Ameritrade, Scotts, etc.- so you should ignore them. Do your own research and decision making.
My suspicion for these seminars was pretty much that they exist to part people from their money i.e. online trading Academy. Yes, sounds like my initial thoughts about going through etrade or something and doing it myself seem like that is the way to go.
Agree with Blade on this (mutual funds, AND diversification – never have all your eggs in one basket).
Thanks, Blade. So it looks like the analysis points to Moore fast becoming a solid #3. That could make for a totally agreesome threesome at the top with lightswitch off and on Samardzija dropping a notch. A solid fastball and a nasty change can do that for a southpaw.
Great read. Thanks, brother!
Golf? Well i ain’t getting my summer workouts this week and i’m a bit pissed. Mechanic informed me the coil is out on the 22″ Huskvarna mower and it’ll take another two three days. They call it a “push” mower these days cause it is not self-propelled. A friend brought one of those by a few weeks back and using it for a few minutes convinced me that no way would i want one of those clumsy, heavy, complifuted monstrosities on my course.
Though the estate is a bit over 8 acres i only mow three or so and its up and down hills, dodging trees, shrubs and various stone-lined raised-bed gardens, ponds and whatever. Fantastic workout, but one needs easy mobility with your machine. One of those contraptions where you ride around on your ass like some doddering doofus? Fuggidaboudit! Very little of what the Germans call “sitzfleish” on my corpus. I do not sit well or very long at a time.
But fast approaching 72, i need that mowing workout on a steady basis through the summer and it’s galling me because with tropical rainforest conditions during July we just experienced the heaviest growth ever of the grass population ~ and when it gets over 6″ inches tall ~ particularly that nasty, heavy redclover down on the polderlands ~ the whole affair turns into brutal trench warfare.
Some H.S. football player could get himself into great shape investing about 4 hours daily on what will be facing me when i get the mower back. He’d go through the opposing line like shit through a goose.
Great post, Stix. Hilarious. And thanks for all the links you have been sending on alternative news sites. Digging it, brother. And with the maintenance you are doing on your place, at 72 YO, that is impressive as hell!
Awesome post Stix. I’d need a week of recovery time after anything close to what you do.
Somewhere there is a great series of gifs I saw re: Puig 2014 vs. STL in playoffs. He struck out 8 times in 12 ABs and they consistently got him going down and away with breaking stuff he was trying to yank. And he’s never adjusted back, becoming a .260 hitter/.700 OPS guy who is often hurt and unavailable.
I was afraid Beane would help LA and sure enough. Hill I still don’t think is ready to pitch and that blister thing could limit his starts going forward too. Reddick is a nice player but adds more confusion to Dodgers OF and could easily be just a rental. Meanwhile they lose more pitching prospects to their shaky rotation.
FO has sure laid a lot on Roberts plate; see how he handles crunch time.
I saw a post on cbs site from some “blueblood” tool ragging on Giants slide, and response came from Giants fan: “1988 calling on line 1.”
When evaluating all 3 trades with a broad brush I am left with one observation: what the fuck were the Twins doing? The Brewers and the Rays pulled 2 big hauls out of us and all we gave up for Nunie was Meijia? If you accept that Nunie is having a much better year than Duffy (and that’s not even debatable the other way) then we basically upgraded 3rd base significantly AND got Moore who, I don’t care where fangraphs ranks him, is a #2 waiting to happen. And I’ll just take the brass’ word on the reliever we got from Milw. I don’t do relievers……
and fuck what the Dodgers did. Reddick and Hill are nice but neither is going to instantly turn LA into a team that I fear. The only thing I’d worry about is if Kershaw came back and that could be a problem. But until/if that happens I am not worried about LA. I was worried about US and the brass blew away my expectations with all 3 of these moves.
After reading a bit, the one trade I’d question is for Smith. Bickford apparently is looking pretty good, and when you toss in Susac, this Smith guy is looking expensive. His splits look like he’s not exactly a budding Affeldt, which is apparently what he’s being touted as. Though earlier, he apparently sprained his knee putting on his shoes. Affeldtesque. Moore is the dude who hit Panik in the head, and hasn’t apologized, apparently. Looks like he’ll need to do that. Moore is under control for a coupla years, so that’s a good thing, and why he was costly…
i go back to this about Bickford: he was billed as a guy who throws 97 and he was throwing 91 in the futures game. That is a classic example of hype building on hype crashing head on into reality. He might have a TJ coming on, who knows. But I am not worried even a little bit about Bick. I think his hype should have brought more than the MIlw reliever though. Disappointed we didn’t get another pitcher for him AND Susac.
Your last two sentences nailed it Flav! People keep saying “I am not sweating losing Bickford”. That’s not the point.
Well, if he were viewed by the FO as THAT good, we can all agree they wouldn’t have traded him…
It was apparent that relievers were the highest interest by almost all clubs prior to the deadline, so it isn’t like the Giants overpaid…they paid the going rate for a quality ML reliever. Hell yes, I would have loved another arm (as Craig pointed out), but I am good with all of the trades. Giddy the fuck up!
Chris Archer @ChrisArcher22 4m4 minutes ago
.@SFGiants, you guys are getting a high character dude in @MattyMoe55. You’ll enjoy having him your clubhouse and on your mound.
I don’t care if he’s a serial killer as long as he can pitch lights out.
lulz. I agree, LJ!
Roster moves have to be made to make room for the two new guys. Probably one off the 25 and somebody off the 40. If I had to pick who loses between Peavy and Cain, logic tells me Peavy would hit the Pen because Cain has no idea where the ball is headed half the time, but Bochy’s brolove for Peavy tells me otherwise. Still, I’d put Samardzx in the Pen for a while, and let PeavyCain tell us with two more starts who is the worst and needs to go DL. Then, bring Samardz back to the rotation after that mental and mechanics break…
Milwaukee may have taken us to the cleaners. Smith should be okay, but for both Bickford and Susac we should have received at least a low minors borderline prospect or two. In the Florida deal we paid heavy for quality. Fairly even. Twins got a pitcher in Mejia who could well be ML ready for THAT organization but not for ours. He’ll almost surely get the September call and should become a middle of the rotation starter. The trade for Nunez looks to be quite even-steven.
In almost any other instance, I would agree Stix (regarding Smith), but given the market, I do not think so (see my 10:30 post).
Chi: Tending to agree with you, basically. I do think that Milwaukee should have added a relative throw-in figleaf, like a low minors moderate prospect. This go-round in particular, LH relievers were about as common as bicuspids on a rhode island red hen and priced accordingly.
I’m not sweating the loss of Bickford. The dude is like what 2-3 years away at best? I’ve also seen some of the reporting that Flav mentioned yesterday saying that he’s over hyped. Losing Susac sort of sucks but he hasn’t been able to displace Brown and has had health problems so what do you do with the guy?
I listened to Kuip this morning and he seems to think that Moore is going to come over, learn from the great sage Raghetti and do well. He also mentioned that he’ll love throwing to Posey. Are pitchers just jizzing themselves when Posey dons the mask? Sure, you want a plus player at any position but I’m not buying that a catcher makes that much of a difference.
I’m going full polly on Cain. Dude is going to put it together down the stretch.
are they jizzing themselves? Whoa. I just now realized why Posey wears a mask. Hey now.
Hey, I’m just setting them up. You’re knocking them down.
I was trying to work the Machine in somehow but thought that might be a step too far.
AND saran wrap . . .
Kruk and Kuip jizz themselves whenever they talk about Posey. He could take a meat cleaver to Bochy and they’d marvel at his cleavering skills…
Dirt – re: your “but I’m not buying that a catcher makes that much of a difference” comment, seems that is the case many times. Think about the year Buster came up and we still had “BIG Titties” behind the dish. Most of the starters preferred to throw to Molina. Timmy has his nuances with catchers, too. So, from my observations, it does appear to matter to most pitchers.
Yes, I basically said not that much of a difference. I think it is marginal at best.
Yeah I feel the same way. People always used to bemoan the fact Sabes would sit on his hands and not make moves. And very very few of these draft choices actually get to the bigs let alone make an impact. Which is why there ARE a few can’t miss types like Posey. Timmy was even a crapshoot but he blew through the minors like a knife through hot butter. Cain the same thing. Bummie was dominant.
So I think they have a pretty good handle on what the future holds for their draft picks. They are chips . . . .
0-0-0 and Reynolds off the 40 and 25?
000 passed waivers at least once before. Before he started somehow “muscling up” in the minors. It would be somehow weird if he were cut, since I heard media types near breathless saying he was near done with his rehab as if he was some kind of answer to some need. If Sabevans had any thought of paying too much for their trades before pulling the trigger, the earlier news on the Hill/Reddick trade to LA had to be a push over the line…
Well, Duffy is off the 40 and 25.
000 is like a bad fucking rash, hard to get rid of.
LMAO…
LJ, that is perfect.
Hmmm…I though it was “like a hot knife through butter” ? Ha ha
Yeah wouldn’t hot butter just be melted butter??? And then a knife is useless:)
I thought Duffy was our, ease the pain from Casey McGehee. guy.
I’m liking all three trades. When the Giants traded Mejia for Nunez, you kind of had to figure they were pretty serious about him. Adding Smith gets us another Lefty not only for this year but going forward (having two lefties out of the pen has served us well). And, Moore had the stuff before TJ surgery, he hadn’t really put it all together but most of what I’ve read says he will. Plus, if Johnny C. opts out next year we will still have a core group of guys. I’m all in.
That was Panik. . . .
Panik at 3b? I don’t remember that.
Nope. It was Duffy. I remember Duffy recounting how McGehee pulled Duffy into a broom closet (in Colorado, I believe) right after Bochy informed them that Duffy was taking the starter’s role. McGehee told Duffy he was doing what he was supposed to do, and to not feel bad about it. Was a very cool story.
yes Bozo, you’re right. Panik came in after Hicks got demoted and Hudson convinced Sabes Uggla still had something left…which he did, mostly Ks and errors.
I am with ya, John! (Pushes huge pile of chips into center of table.)
I think Cueto remains a Giant barring something way unforeseen.
I agree, Charlie.
Oops, you’re right, Unca. Johnny C can’t opt out of the contract until after 2017. I thought it was after the first year.
Samardzija with 5 ER or more in 4 of his last 10 starts. Did I mention that he used to be a wide receiver at Notre Dame?
No on the WR, but I knew that. Great athlete…that is why they had him pinch-run for Bum the other day. Now if he can just keep the ball down and locate his fucking pitches, because last I checked, there were to open WR positions on our team. 😉
Tough for Reynolds. He looked very good on a big strikeout of Harper.
He’ll be back up in September.
I assume.
Pawlie mentioned the Ruth trade; I’m reading a book on that now, machinations of Boston owner in a financial crisis and at war with AL commissioner selling off Ruth after a contentious season 1918 where he refused to pitch for a long time and had prolonged power outages. “The Selling of the Babe” by Glenn Stout.
Ruth was a very selfish guy out for himself, who definitely rose to occasion end of season (when Sox were long out of it) in a chase to set HR records for all of baseball. After doing so, he left the team on its final game of season to play in an exhibition game in Balt for $$$$. And he wanted a hefty raise for next year.
Good story so far, and in context of what players made/ownerships did at that time, lot different than today.
Title and/or author? 🙂
Oh wait, you did say it. Duh!
GREAT thread, Flavor!
HOLY SHIT! 329 posts on the previous thread. The trades definitely kick-started the Flap (not that it ever needs it!).
I posted a few thoughts yesterday and am in lock-step with ya Craig. I loved both of these deals. I do not think we overpaid on either, and am excited as hell!
I really thought (and this is me with my polly-rose colored mirrored shades…aka Loo…okay, I made up the rose colored in regards to Loo) this team could win without a major re-tooling, IF everyone got healthy and played to their potential. There is the rub…our boys have had their fair share of bumps and bruises this year, and not everyone is towing the line (Shark, Peavy and Cain have all struggled, as has the BP).
So, I LOVE this makeover. Bring it on! Chi is Dancing in the Streets!
Four in Seven, Bitches! HUMM BABY – Let’s Do It Again!
Wilco– I dumped 3 entries into the Hot Corner today just to have something riding in the afternoon while I’m on the course. I thought of you because of today’s wild pitching slate. So many directions to go! I ended up with Bum/Bundy, Darvish/Ray and Shoe/Manaea. I’m not against going with 2 pitchers from the same game at DK if I think the SO total will go big on both sides. Still, feels like a total crapshoot up and down the card today.
Yeah, I do the two pitchers from the same game thing all the time. 4 points for a win on DK? Hmmm, I will trade that for extra strikeout potential all day long. Bring on the pitchers duel!
yeah. I’m still not sure about that team yet and I’m not teeing off till later today so still sorting that one out. But that Bundy kid, while probably not gonna go over 100 pitches, has big time SO potential. And he’s cheap as fuck so you can put him with Bum and still fill out a nice LU. Think I might switch out Yu for deGrom cause Yankees can’t hit.
Kuiper sure was surly this morning after he himself blew off his usual scheduled slot by not setting his alarm bs..
He’s basically ripping Duffy a new one and his cat Skeeter as well and when Murph&Mac mentioned Moore wears the same number as Timmy #55 and do you think he will wear it? hey it’s just a number it’s not like theirs a statue out in the cove for him”
Kat, I caught some of that on IHeart radio. Did you hear the toilet flush in the background? I think Kuiper was late cause he had an epic case of the runs.
Kuip was shatting one out on his show today? That’s a new low (or high depending on how you view that move)
You know what I did Wilco and 1st I thought that Mac hit the Tom Tolbert pop a cold beer fill up,but you could hear the bowl circling hard too get that turd or runs down it was epic!!
I posted on FB that the uproar over trading Duffy ranks right up there when the Giants traded Matt Williams, another 3rd baseman. I forget who the GM was but everyone called him an idiot, he came out in the press saying he was not an idiot! Well that trade turned out okay. So we all will just have to wait and see. Go Giants
It was Sabean. That’s how the “lunatic fringe” thing came about.
And Flannery lifted that name for his band (which I saw about two months ago…great show).
So basically Kuip blew off his scheduled slot cause he was blowing chunks in the toilet and still hadn’t finished when he came on a 1/2 later..priceless..🚽🚽🚽🚽🚽🚽🚽
As Tom Hanks intoned in one of his more memorable roles: “Shit happens”.
Moore having his #55 isn’t a big deal to me. Others might vary on that.
I am down with Moore rocking the 55.
From Pav: Smith and Moore expected here this afternoon, but Moore doesn’t have to be active right away. Adrianza also on way. Lots of moves coming.
Return of the rash!
Ain’t it the truth.
Tomlinson is sort of the forgotten man in all of this. He’s sitting at .313/.371/.375/.746 in Sacto.
and he probably sits til S-1 call ups. I like this guy, he just got hurt at precisely the wrong time. If he’d had a chance to play while Pena and Tejada were here, let alone Gillaspie I think he could have made good things happen.
Yeah, I can see the rationale for 000 coming up. They want Tomlinson to keep getting regular ABs.
Agree, WillieD.
Good lead. You can write, Magnus. Even on vac.
ugh. Nunie slotted in the 9 hole, fucking Span #1. Pisses me off. More at bats for Span is not what this offense needs.
I agree but here’s why: Bochy is just being the shrewd and gentle father, easing into things, giving Span his ‘respect’ and so on. Change will come.
Your kidding? I’m pissed too! All those moves and this is the LU we end up with? Although I think Span has been improving his game slowly (snails pace) I think the improvement is far from being enough to warrant the lead off spot.
Btw Flav, I concur with Pawlie’s post immediately above: tis a Monumental & Brilliant lead by you this morning … You covered all salient points from yesterday and then some .. No small feat by any means.
He did rope a triple in his pinch-hit AB on Sunday (if that offers you any condolences)…
Like I said Chi, he has been improving, there is no denying it, and I am hoping for more — truly would like to see Span succeed. Would’nt that be a big weight off? Another facet of the team we don’t have to be concerned with. And I think he has been playing damn decent defense all year. I’ll be ok if he ends up at .270, pleased at .280, and tickled with anything above that.
Interesting line-up…Bochy going LaRussa with Bum in the 8 hole…Panik down to the seven, three lefties in a row.
1. Denard Span (L) CF
2. Angel Pagan (S) LF
3. Hunter Pence (R) RF
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
7. Joe Panik (L) 2B
8. Madison Bumgarner (R) P
9. Eduardo Nunez (R) 3B
why the fuck *bad quad* Span has to leadoff is beyond me (especially with The Great Nunie taking the brunt of it). They need to give that dude a rest….
I argue enough about LU, but seriously, I bet if each of us here submitted their choice you’d have 25+ different ones.
Tho I do admit that would make for a good thread, and you could start with leadoff slot (since Span is almost universally reviled here)—who is best to hit there and why.
Twin used to post “The Book” guidelines for each spot, altho going by the book not necessarily always the best way to get optimum results.
Personally, I think SP hitting anywhere other than 9th is dumb, but juggling top of order you could stick any one of Span Panik Nunez or Pagan there, or at the bottom. And mix up core hitters any way you want too.
i don’t really care who leads off. I am just irritated that my current new fav player is hitting 9th and the guy I dislike the most on the team is hitting first thus likely guaranteeing that the -guy is going to get 1 more at bat than the +guy
Ah, the truth comes out. I agree, Flav. Span can sit for a spell and I will not miss his graybeard ass. Where is Loo with his emoticons when you need him! LOO!
It would have been so easy to switch Pagan and Belt if BB15 was “easing” in Nunez over Span.
I’m surprised Bochy has stuck with the whole pitcher in the eight hole bull so far into the season. Maybe it’s one of those light touch, respect things for Bumgarner.
it’s kinda like a raise, right?
Probably a HR derby compromise.
Henry Schulman @hankschulman 35m35 minutes ago
Moore said he’s been told he’ll pitch Thursday or Friday. Those currently are Samardzija, Peavy spots. #sfgiants
I think he will take Shark’s spot. With that you have:
Bum L
Cueto R
Moore L
Shark R
Peavy or Cain R
Mac to DL with shoulder strain.
can’t play Bundy, that Tex LU is just too stacked
I’ll be shocked if they send Shark to BP. Makes too much dough going forward. And I tend to agree with Dirt, i think Cain is going to turn it around enough to be serviceable in Sept. Peavy is kinda the odd man out. And he’s probably better off throwing limited pitches at this point anyway. Who knows, maybe he finds a spot in the BP that he really fits into?
Agreed. Shark stays in the rotation. Cain looks like a 5 inning guy now, while Peavy is starting to look like a 3 inning guy. Suarez will probably be hanging in Sactown for a bit while Jake gets the mop up duties and Cain stays at #5. That would be my guess anyway.
Interesting read from the Ray’s side of the deal for those that are interested. Since it’s the Ray’s and all my key takeaway was that “Duffy is under team control though 2020 and will make the league minimum until 2018.”
http://www.draysbay.com/2016/8/1/12345404/rays-trade-matt-moore-to-san-francisco-giants
Craw’s take on the trade, from the Brandon and Brandon blog – http://brandon.mlblogs.com/
That’s good stuff…..thanks for posting the link.
Isn’t it odd (sarcasm) that most of the comments on the Brandon blog are from women…hmmmm…
The guy at the Rays blog Drays Bay, writing about Duffy, wrote:
“it is not entirely clear what’s gone wrong for him this season.”
The writer hasn’t seen many Giants games this season. Some of the opponents literally put two guys in rightfield vs. Duffy. Stuff that was falling in for hits last year, is getting caught this year. It’ll be interesting to see how well the AL has him scouted, and if Duffy is making an adjustment. It seemed like he was starting to make the adjustment before the Achilles happened.
I would never want Duffy to lose his special talent for going opposite field. But he does need to mix in more balls to other fields to punish the other teams for that shift.
Big series for Colorado vs. the Dodgers, and Story is out now with a torn thumb ligament. Well, that was bad timing.
And it clinches the Rookie of the Year for Seager, who was always probably going to get it anyway, but Story was giving him a decent challenge for it.
Not certain Flav is around, but finally got around to reading the Flap and saw the Bundy conversation. I didn’t “marry” him with Darvish, but did go with deGrom. Consequently, was able to put together a powerhouse LU. Weird. Must have done a mind meld with you, because I was thinking the same thing about Bundy being a great value play, especially in DK, where pitching isn’t over weighted like it is in FD. See what happens tonight, since it will be a surprise (going to see the Jason Bourne film with a couple of friends). Later . . .
Go Giants!
Different game. Same, same. RISP rasp. Deserves a razzberry for the middle of the order. Only thing we got on the Philthy’s starter was 22 up on his pitch count.
This is not the way to start off this roadie.
Got Fugly confused with McGeehee earlier.
Did I miss a memo or somthin’ …? Is this now a required handicap? … spotting the opposition to a couple of 1st inning runs? Is this a consequence of the proximity of our recent 3 WS championships to this season?
MadBum major phail.
Where’s his curveball? His slider isn’t moving very much. His fastball isn’t fooling them. He had a really good curveball last week.
Finally throws the curveball, down 6-0.
He seems like he’s got no command of the curve so far.
Kind of ironic that all 4 runs came in that inning courtesy of an error by Nunez at 3rd base.
6-0 2nd inning yikes..
Ouch.
Of course, those last 4 were unearned because our new third baseman threw one away.
…. and I thought the triple play the other night was the low point … This particular “team” performance is giving it a run for its money … Ugh, ugh UGH!!!
Yeah not to defend Nunez but even that ball was smoked off his nuts. But he had time just airmailed a terrible throw..
Just got in from mowing while it is only about 85 degrees heat index and turn on the game and my official reaction is what the fuckkkkkk????
No lead is safe in this park – you’ll see…
Is this ‘Mile High’ East?
Nice call Loo
That will help!
Crawdaddy liftoff!’
Got all of that. Chip away.
A run!

Is that Ann Margaret…she must have smelled real nice….
There’s one back.
That ones for Duffy!
Does any other Flapper think the Rays are stupid to put Duffy at SS?
I know they kept Longoria so no choice I guess, but he is not a SS and will get exposed over there and I’m gonna be bummed for him seeing E-5 a lot over his GG caliber 3rd..
I though SS was his natural position? I guess it was 2nd and he has played a fair amount at Short.
Well, the Rays aren’t going any where fast so they have time to see how he can adapt. He certainly took to 3rd pretty damn fast … He is an excellent athlete. If they can make him into a decent SS then they know they got a very versatile hot corner and middle infielder. Maybe they’ll try him at 1st too eventually … why not? They got the time.
Why don’t you just move in with him and send us direct reports?
Good idea … But I’m allergic to cats!
The fat cat apparently is staying behind:
Matt Duffy (@mm_duffy) “it’s too hot” for Skeeter in Tampa “He’s a big boy, it’s too humid. He’ll keep living the good life with my parents”
Baggs’ story said Duffy would be moving to “his original position,” so I guess he’s a little familiar with SS.
Yeah, thats what I thought. He is a SS that played some 2nd and then learned 3rd with the Giants.
Eff you!!!
6 – Craw. Chip away.
Nice call, Loo!
There’s two more back.
Skeeter the fat cat is not going to Florida. Too fat for the airline seat& the humidity would roast that cat, so he’s staying with his parents!!
New Ballgame!!
Belt Crushed that mother!!
6-6 lovin it!!
There’s all six back!
Chipped all away. Now lets get this game started.
I’m doing yard work…Giants down 6-0…come in and watch gane…Giants score 6:)
Why you stay aggressive with your at bats Brandons…
Hey Guys … I think I got my jinx on tonight … I turned game on in the 1st In time to see giants waste those 2 runners then turned it off at 6-0 just before what seems to have been Craws homer … What’s happening now? I’m only following Flap for updates .. Apologies for imposition.
Ok. .. I see above
YES !!!!!!!
Seems like I got dial up speed tonight …. Interweb sooooo slooooowww.
Just came back from the yard myself after Bumgarner sagged early. Boom-Boom-Brandon’s with a pair of dingers over 2 innings and each driving in three.
WOW! Thx Stix!
How’d you play Flav…just too damn hot here for a round…
Span should steal here…
And a damn good thing he didn’t.
I could fungo a Spaldeen out of that park with a fuckin’ broken broomstick…
PA-GONE!
Mel.
Also Lumpy Rutherford’s dad…
I forgot about that, Loo. Good call..
I want to thank that fan for getting thrown out. He got to Blue, my hats off to him.
8-7. Gotta love it.
MadBum with the leadoff walk, at least he’s contributing something — and can now get the win.
Bum just had nothing on the mound tonight. That’s so rare to see.
