I’ve abandoned the shackles and limits the 70’s was putting on me and will now be pulling “Name This Giant” from any time period. The rules are simple: You get one guess. As soon as someone gets it I’ll update the standings and upload another player.

I know Beniquez has got to be wrong and Stanley in the outfield is also a reach, but I couldn’t come up with any other white outfielders. I don’t think they had re-acquired Bobby Murcer by then.

In honor of Feb Hist month, I do remember watching NBA in the ’60s when Auerbach put 5 black players on the floor—KC and Sam Jones Russell Satch Sanders and Willie Naulls. Philly also did this with Wilt Chet Walker Luke Jackson Greer and Wali Jones.
Early days of course, like baseball most NBA teams had a quota of maybe 3 and this was league wide. I read the bio on Billy McGill who late in his career was trying to make the Warriors during Barry days. Thurmond told him flat out, Hill, they ain’t keeping 2 black centers.

The Sporting News baseball preview magazine has the Giants losing the NL Wild Card game to the Cardinals. The Cubs defeating the Cards, and the Nats defeating the Dodgers, and the Cubs going to the World Series and defeating Boston, who will have defeated Cleveland in the ALCS.
Well, I would like our chances vs. the Cards in that Wild Card game. I’m feeling pretty confident against the Cards these days. I don’t see how the magazine could pick the Nats over the Dodgers. Maybe one of these days the Nats will actually win a playoff series.

So I just checked baseball reference and the dumbass trivia question that every dope like me has been using for 40 years is wrong. Thomasson & Johnstone replaced Roy White and Lou Piniella in the final inning, but Paul Blair who had replaced Mickey Rivers earlier remained in CF. Amazing!

Told ya I was on the road. Just got to Tahoe. Then road was empty and hiway 89 was just opened when we got here as there was a guy who was pulled over for DYI who apparently had a hostage with him. After a 2 hour standoff he broke from his car for a nearby house, in a fucking blizzard mind you, and he was shot and killed by the local cops.

At least that’s what the sketchy chick at the bar said.

He was pretty non-descript, I’m surprised he lasted 4 seasons but he was a first round pick (amateur draft) so he must have had some coveted tools at some point. Maybe just me, but these dudes faces were hard to distinguish in the ‘stick nose bleed seats. Likewise, none of these dudes were regulars as I recall, so face time in the Chronicle, Merc, or KTVU must have been rare or nonexistent.

Couple that with what snarkk just said about the team sucking so bad when these dudes played . . . Umm, my hat is off to Unca and Loo for killing it in this game.

By the by, I wish you would have left all the photos up from today (and previous days). Only caught one photo today (the one where I guessed Arroyo. Bleh. I would have liked to see what these other dudes looked like).

I’m intentionally picking random guys (outside of Holland) or it would be too easy. I think if you spent a lot of time looking at baseball cards this would be easier. To me, the names are locked into my brain like I’m stuck in quicksand.
I don’t know how much you’d get seeing all the photos at once. Some of them were barely slivers of guys faces. I had to, Loo is too good at this.
But now that we’ve created a monster the same way Brady rose to the top and everyone now hates him just for being Brady, someone must rise up and challenge Loo. This dominance can’t continue. Let’s go.

I could tell by the photo that it appeared to be early 70’s, so I went to baseball almanac and checked the Giants roster for 1972. He was the first one that came to mind as a possibility so I then google image searched him and voila, there he was.
