What If Bumgarner Doesn’t Win a Game All Year?
That’s an absurd thought, right? This will only be his 7th start of the season. But still, it’s almost August. And he pitches for the worst team in the league. Maybe tonight is the night? Gonna be an uphill battle to get him to 1 win at some point this season.
I thought it was mildly amusing that Bochy got kicked out and Cain was yelling at the umpire all because they didn’t get a pitch called a strike. Um, how about not giving up multiple 3 run bombs? How many 3 run bombs have the Giants hit this year? Two? Pirates did it twice last night: In our park where it’s supposedly impossible to hit home runs.
I’m tired of hearing about park factors. I went and looked up how to calculate the wrc+. Here it is:

Now, I’m not asking anyone to explain this to me because you’d be bullshitting me if you said you could do it. But I do know this: Lonnie Chisenhall has the highest wrc+ for the Indians at 149. That’s higher than Goldschmidt, Bellinger, Stanton, Murphy and Bryant. Anyone thinking about starting a team with Big Lon over any of those 5 studs?
So we can find and manipulate any saberstat we want to try to justify why our players don’t hit at AT&T and opposing players DO hit at AT&T. Frankly, I’m tired of hearing about it.
Get better hitters, preferably right handed ones. That is the only thing that’s going to fix this team and it’s going to take years to accomplish that even if they started today…..
Do players still call the manager “the skipper”? It would seem kind of quaint.
TF would know by now.
why is it taking so long for our dopey beat writers to figure this out?????
Lonnie Chisenhall has 216 PAs in 64 games, and a 953 OPS. His lifetime OPS is 746. He’s about as good as a Blue Moon and completely irrelevant to making a case against SABR stats.
Apologies for the ill-timed response, but I did post first on the trade.
Proceed.
headed to the red sox….
Rosenthal; Source: Eduardo Nunez to #RedSox.
Seeing as Toomgis killed a guy in Fairfield not too long ago, I give him the thumbs-down.
Dick Dietz???
And Blue Moon sucks sweaty balls, and purportedly tastes like it . . . . Made the mistake of buying a case at Costco. It slowed my consumption way down.
it’s unreal that we still don’t know who we get back from Boston. Rosenthal and Heyman are slapping each other on the backs for being “first” but if you don’t disclose who’s coming back on trade how can you call “first?”
when I was coaching b-ball for HS, used to scout the teams in San Mateo and north area once CCS section playoffs started. Few of the gals teams used to have Islanders built about like “Auntie.”
2 minor league pitchers coming our way…..
ok i gotta hit sack for real. 2 minor league pitchers. I guarantee they will both be worthless. Later.
Hey, Dawg! Allison is here and she mentioned hanging out with Breault a while back. Said he was a nice guy.
I heard for 2 pitching prospects. Beeks and Dalbec?
Hey Chuck—and say hi to Allison for me! Brault and Musgrove are both good guys who come from great families. AJ Griffin is a little older than Matt and I never spent any time around him.
Here’s another out of context fact. The ump K&K were shitting on last night called two pitches in the zone balls and two out of the zone strikes while Cain was pitching. Overall, he was closer to the computerized strike zone than most umps.
I have told this story before, but Brault is a good hitter and a real talented guy off the field—good actor and singer and was the frontman for a rock band in high school. The big time schools started recruiting him at some point in high school and he told them he wanted to be a performing arts major and wanted a fair chance to earn time playing in the field as well. All those schools told him no and no—if you come here you are a pitcher period, and need to choose a less-involved major. He stuck to his guns and ended up finding a private school in Colorado (Regis University) that agreed to his terms. Before him, they had never sent a player to the big leagues.
Jaso’s wearing his hair.
My University, Regis.

Can we get a goddam outfielder from somewhere? Anywhere?
Can’t this front office see that this outfield is the shits?
Did they have an OFer in the trade, then Nunie got hit on the elbow and they had to settle for a pitcher and a 3bman? Another 3dbman? 10 second look at each dude on Baseball reference. Totally underwhelmed.
WTF?!!!
We need pitchers, too. As much as OFers.
We need OFers. Stat !…
Dont know if it’s them, but the grapevine is rustling . . .
I’d like to know the timing of this Nunie trade. As if the local scribes will figure that out.
If Evans was in the middle of final negotiations to trade his ass, yet they were playing him, and he gets hit on the elbow by a pitch, that is just flat incompetent, stoopid management. Just idiotic. I hope it did not go down that way, but it sure looks like it…
Good point. And that shot to the elbow may still complicate this deal. Nunie ain’t exactly Cal Ripken when it comes to getting dinged up.
Schulman has already speculated that the shot on the elbow will complicate what should have been a routine physical by the RSox to confirm the deal…
From Boston Globe reporter: The Red Sox are sending RHP Shaun Anderson (3.99 ERA in HiA Salem) and 17-yr-old RHP Gregory Santos (0.90 ERA in 30 IP in the DSL) to SF.
I think Olive Oyl sizzles in this video:
The Red Sox are going to try another Giants third baseman. That’s some chutzpah.
We got a fuckin’ 17 year old for Nunie?
I’ll be in assisted living before he’s in the majors…
Giants top draft pick Heliot Ramos also is 17.
He was 15:
Cain hit the bigs at 20. So was Bummie.
Hey Toomgis, you have some botulism on your face . . .
Hey was the answer Dodgers C Norm Sherry? He was part of bro battery, and the pitcher was relief guy who helped LA win the WS in ’59. That was first baseball I remember watching, Aparicio/Nellie Fox of the Go Go Sox.
