Super Bowl Bound
Today is a great day to root for teams I normally don’t care about. The Chiefs are gonna spank Tom Brady’s dumbass all the way back to New England and Drew Brees is gonna knowing dude head nod the Rams back to LoserLand.
I’m not worried about the KC crowd, they will bring it. I’m a little worried about the weather since we just don’t know who’s frozen hands the iced ball is going to bounce off and I could see a defensive score being the difference in this game. Regardless, I have to assume the Chiefs aren’t going to stubbornly sit in zone all day the way the Chargers did and let Brady pick them apart. Personally, I am hoping for a nice early first Q sack that drives his dumbass into the ground. Take the 15 yard penalty but watch him not be comfortable for the rest of the game. Nobody benefits more from the peace and tranquility of a cocooned pocket like Tom Brady. Smash him to win. I don’t think this will be close, I’ll take KC 35 NE 21.
The Saints? I just think they’re better than LA and Brees is awesome. Easy guy to root for. Saints 37-Rams 20
Old AFL was very cool. Pats/Chiefs go back a long way.
anyone remember Chiefs first home?
Jets original nickname?
A possible trick question…
I knew original home but didn’t realize they won AFL title there too. First one I remember watching was when Chargers killed Pats 51-10 Lincoln Lowe Alworth days.
There was a story I think in Sport mag about Abner Haynes I read. He’d lost a buddy from his hometown who died from an injury suffered during an AFL game they were in. D Stone I think his name was.
Since no one’s answered . . .
Dallas.
Titans.
yes.
It’s an unintentional trick question because the first home of the Kansas City Chiefs (after they left Dallas) was Municipal Stadium before Arrowhead was built. Someone call Dr. Reason A. Goodwin…
ah thx Loo.
Titans?
Flav, I agree with you 100% here.
A Saints win in the Dome, it’ll be a Brees!!
i can’t support indoor visor wear so I’m not down with Payton but the rest of the team? No probs with the Saints whatsoever.
Hah, wearing a visor indoors is pretty sedate headgear for New Orleans, believe me…
Always thought the old AFL was really exciting, unlike Niners who varied btw mediocre and awful. Much more wide open and high scoring. Raiders were terrible when they first started playing at old Youell field and then Big Al took over and rebuilt the team. Just more fun to watch. Pretty soon Chiefs became hated rivals, something that’s never died btw them.
And Marty Schott used to own them.
I can remember some names from SB IV Chiefs — Lenny Dawson, Buck Buchanan, Willy Lanier, Curly Culp, Bobby Bell, Otis Taylor. The rest is foggy, but that was a solid team. They cuffed the Vikes around, and after that the AFL/NFL merger happened, because the AFC couldn’t be ignored after two SB wins in a row. I was a Raider fan back then, they and Chiefs had a great rivalry. Still remember Ben Davidson spearing Lenny on the turf in KC, sparking a huge brawl. NFL now is a pale reminder of those days. Chiefs fans haven’t been back to the SB in almost 50 years, so I’m feeling it, like a long-suffering Giants fan pre-2010, for the KC folks and hope they take the Pats down…
Travis Bergen.
Logan Webb.
Pitchers on the Giants 40-man.
On the team website, the other 38 dudes have pictures with their names, these dudes don’t.
Maybe they are on the back of milk cartons …
We just picked up Bergen as a Rule 5 guy, so maybe they haven’t had time to air brush a Giants hat on him yet. Webb? Well, if I’m Webb, I wouldn’t want my current photo used, ever.
They picked up Bergen in mid-December. That’s 5 weeks.
Maybe they fired the photo guy along with the strength trainer late last season.
Or, maybe the ZMan hasn’t gotten his Giants lap top yet?…
That Longoria albatross contract is a killer. I smell a new Rohand-like situation, but I doubt the ZMan would let that fester for 4 more years. This is from Baggarly’s recent column on the Giants in theAthletic. Fairly astounding…
“Most critically, we’re talking about the $92 million already committed for 2021 (due to Posey, Cueto, Belt, Crawford and Longoria). That’s the most tied-up cash in the major leagues. The Boston Red Sox (a little over $86 million), the Washington Nationals (~$76 million) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (~$71 million) are the only teams that even approach the Giants in terms of payroll commitments for 2021.”
If Zaidi can jettison Longo, he’s a genius indeed. Smarj should go overboard, too. His contract only (only!) runs through 2020, but at $18M, it’d be good to ditch.
We probably should prepare for openers and relief parades in 2019.
Longo has at least the potential do to something.Smargle? Fuck to the no. He’ll walk 8 guys and give up 32 bombs.
I hated the Raiders as a kid (we were predisposed to be Niners OR Raiders fans) so I dug KC and SD. I mean, I did love some of their players (Freddy B, Ghost to the post, the Snake, Sea of Hands, Ted Hendricks, etc.) but Dirty Al Davis was such a maor league asshole tha it was easy to root against them.
I look at the contracts that the Giants orq has committed too and I just want to 🤮🤮🤮🤮
I just saw a woman in the supermarket wearing a Matt Cassel #7 Chiefs jersey. That’s gotta be a good sign, right? Go Chiefs!
I know i’ve posted a few times about Brady being the GOAT. Saw this on sports center…
A crazy STAT..Brady playing in HIS 13TH AFC TITLE GAME IN 17 YEARS AS A STARTER. The old record? Joe who played in 7.
His record in those 7 was 4-3.
I love Joe, and he will always be my fav 49. I’m rooting for the Chiefs! But if i was betting (Craig?) I wouldn’t put money on them. Not against the GOAT!
Man, fuck the GOAT
Does mr portdude feel the same way?
Ha ha. Just kidding. Just tired of Tom Terrific. If he was so great, how come he’s lost so many super bowls? He’s the Atlanta Braves of football. Speaking of Atlanta, you can pin that win on Kyle Shanahan.
PS..Rams win too. With Talib they give up 17 ppg, without him 30. He’s back, and changes the game the way Deon and Revis did. Gurley / Anderson duo ground and pound and keep Brees off the field. Take the dogs today!!
Brady’s just a system quarterback. Just like the Beatles are a boy band.
I kid, I kid . . .
Archie Manning looks like he’s 40 years old (he’s actually 69). Man, good genes in that family
In the 80s, to get to a SB, the Niners had to go through the Cowboys, Giants and Skins. I don’t see any teams like those that have been consistently in the way of the Pats during the Brady era. And, the Pats have had a home-field heavy playoffs schedule over their reign due to their gimme victories in that putrid AFC East…
The Pats have a fucking 20 game preseason. It’s fairly easy to see how they get so far all the time. Parity has watered down the competition as well. Like you said, the gauntlet back in the day was much tougher. The AFC in the 70s was all about the Raiders, Steelers, Chiefs, and Dolphins.
T Ginn is still playing, wow.
Wow. Drew is dealing. That shoulda been caught.
There you go! Rams collectively puckering.
Trombone Shorty must be making some good coin. The NFL channel played his tune all morning and now they’re playing it on Fox.
Saints fans are the MVP in this game so far!
Their in the Rams psych for sure, Helmet Chang’e for Goff, yelling at each other in the huddle just to hear the play, false starts etc..
Just get this fuckin’ game overwith.
I think if it goes into OT, they delay the start of the AFC game, right?
I don’t know Loo, games on a different channel they shouldn’t fuck with the start in championships games, like they did in a regular season game when the epic Heidi game,(Still pissed at this one)Raiders/Jets game got pulled with the Raiders making a unbelievable comeback win, which was unbelievable for football fans to see due to the networks stupidity to finish the game!!
That had nothing to do with another football game. They just didn’t want to pre-emp the movie.
I get home field advantage.
But, if the other team can’t even hear themselves in the huddle in one of these dome games, what’s the point of playing?
Why not have O lineman have speakers in their helmets? QBs do.
Is that illegal in the foot-thick NFL rulebook?…
Saints should have put this game away by now. The longer the Rams hang around, the better chance they have.
Why does Saints need to play in a dome Stadium anyway?Superdome? Superdump
This place is a ratty old dump that’s falling apart(they showed a pic of ceiling tiles falling near the media conference room from the fans noise crowd going ballistic)
I thought they redid everything inside after Katrina.
Not a 100% sure, I haven’t been in the Dome since the 90s.
Fun fact: SB IX between Steelers-Vikes was played at Tulane’s stadium because the Superdome wasn’t built in time to host the game.
Tulane, wow. Hey Monmouth wins again. Sounds like wild finish and game in general according to cbs site recap. 4 Ts 36 fouls 57 FTs and guy who lost ball makes winning hoop in last second.
SB IV Chiefs/Vikes was at Tulane, too…
Goddamn right it was!
Yep, Wille, MU’s won 4 straight. Not the first time things got chippy vs. Iona.
I had Rams-Chiefs and think the Rams are going to pull this off…
Wow, a big play for the Rams by a guy named Everett.
Sorry, but Rams had to go for the TD there. Never up, never in…
You said it first!!!
Rams should have gone for it on 4th and goal..
That db has to knock that ball down!!!
Goff had it easy on the scramble before that, but he blew it…
Man these Refs have sucked all game long!!
Unbelievable no flag on that clearly interference play!!
If the Rams don’t win, this loss is on McVay for not going for the TD on 4th and inches. Terrible call.
that one surprised me. Goff might have scored play before too.
Absolutely. Playing not to lose, and on the road, no less. Bill Walsh goes for that TD, no question…
so since Loo asked…
I don;t know, You blow that, you put yourself in a bad spot.
Terrible non-calls on 2 PI’s by the Rams.
Brees has looked pretty average all game but for the first couple drives.
“Punch their ticket” is a very outdated expression that they can’t stop using…
Classic make up call…
I’ve never done it before, but I’m rooting for Goff and the Bears, uh, Rams…
One for the refs.
oh man Goodell and his refs gonna hear some shit now.
Yep. That was an egregious non call. May have cost them a SB appearance. Understand completely why Payton is pissed.
NFL billionaires won’t pay for FT refs. You get what you pay for.
They won’t even add extra refs for championship games, unlike baseball.
That call should have been red flaggable for review, and there’s no way that call would have been confirmed with a straight face. Another reason why the NFL is heading inexorably to suckitude…
Yes, on all your points . . . The only reason I watched was because I really like the Saints; hate the Rams; and, I thought the quality of play and officiating would be exponentially better in the playoffs versus the regular season (wrong). If Kansas city doesn’t win against the Pats, I will have zero reason to watch the Superbowl.
Fuck that.
Wow. Might’ve been good from 67…
Wow money kick 🦵 right down the middle by Zurlien from 57 to move on to the SB..
They have to, but won’t, change this dumb “no contesting the PI call” rule.
That was an egregious no-call on a blatant PI foul, probably cost NO the Super Bowl…
Rams — Goff. Saints — Golf.
Rams -Refs Saints-Refs
Brees looked pretty lousy. The Saints should have been up by 21 in the 1st quarter. It ain;t all on the refs, but those non-calls were game altering.
Could be a conspiracy theory!
The networks want Rams and Patriots for the ratings..just sayin..But I want Chiefs to dominate só theirs no controversy in the end!
Not good for Chiefs when Pats methodically move down the field 15 plays chew up 8:00 minutes on opening drive for the TD!
The Chiefs realize the game started, right?
mm Rams were down what 13-0 before getting a field goal. Long way to go.
Seems that often team that scores first can’t continue to repeat what they did.
and there you go!
Shades of Wilson Pickett–99 and a half won’t do
A play!
Wow.
Rare,big mistake by Brady.
Chiefs needed that turnover, big time…
Yeah, rare error (usually against sub par competition, which the Flap alluded to earlier). IMO, if he loses this game, the only people that will be calling him the Goat are those from the NE area and people who were too young (or not born) to see Montana play.
Loo, how many Modelo’s you into for this game? Shit, WHAT is going on with Mahomes?
He’s looking like the rest of the Chiefs in their 1st championship game.
Experience in championship games Pats 136 Chiefs 0
MOther Fuck this can’t be happening.
The Chiefs have gone into classic “we’re just happy to be here” mode.
Uh-oh.
14-0 Loo’s modelos are going up..
Signs of life!
SF Chronicle critic Mick Lasalle’s review of the new Mary Poppins movie is pretty funny.
“She’s chronically depressed and the songs are lousy.”
I thought she was hawt…
Fuck I don’t think that touched him. Fuck!
I really want this one to go in Loo’s favor.
What bullshit.
Did that dumb fuck say, “. . . similar to the grassy knoll???” If so, that was in unbelievable bad taste.
And they won’t review that one!
Edelman is a freakin idiot even getting near that ball in that situation in the game!!
Wow what a fucking break for New England on the review overturn!
Nice!
That RB is fast!
What a call. No one was near Williams.
It’s supposed to be indisputable evidence to overturn the on-field call that the punted ball hit Edelman, right?
So, how indisputable can it be if it takes 5 minutes of review to overturn the call?
The NFL desperately wants New England in the SB…
Pats choking away in 2nd half..
Another fucking terrible call on roughing the passer. Even the god damn nfl rules official says so on national TV.
Not a catch
Refs need to be all reprimanded in both these Championship games!!
What a puss call on Brady’s roughing the passer, when he’s gets a brush on his shoulder pad???
oh shoot
