A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Super Bowl Bound

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on January 20, 2019

Today is a great day to root for teams I normally don’t care about. The Chiefs are gonna spank Tom Brady’s dumbass all the way back to New England and Drew Brees is gonna knowing dude head nod the Rams back to LoserLand.

I’m not worried about the KC crowd, they will bring it. I’m a little worried about the weather since we just don’t know who’s frozen hands the iced ball is going to bounce off and I could see a defensive score being the difference in this game. Regardless, I have to assume the Chiefs aren’t going to stubbornly sit in zone all day the way the Chargers did and let Brady pick them apart. Personally, I am hoping for a nice early first Q sack that drives his dumbass into the ground. Take the 15 yard penalty but watch him not be comfortable for the rest of the game. Nobody benefits more from the peace and tranquility of a cocooned pocket like Tom Brady. Smash him to win. I don’t think this will be close, I’ll take KC 35 NE 21.

The Saints? I just think they’re better than LA and Brees is awesome. Easy guy to root for. Saints 37-Rams 20

Old AFL was very cool. Pats/Chiefs go back a long way.
    anyone remember Chiefs first home?

    Jets original nickname?

      A possible trick question…

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on January 20, 2019 at 9:24 am

I knew original home but didn’t realize they won AFL title there too. First one I remember watching was when Chargers killed Pats 51-10 Lincoln Lowe Alworth days.
There was a story I think in Sport mag about Abner Haynes I read. He’d lost a buddy from his hometown who died from an injury suffered during an AFL game they were in. D Stone I think his name was.

      Dallas.

        yes.

It’s an unintentional trick question because the first home of the Kansas City Chiefs (after they left Dallas) was Municipal Stadium before Arrowhead was built. Someone call Dr. Reason A. Goodwin…

i can’t support indoor visor wear so I’m not down with Payton but the rest of the team? No probs with the Saints whatsoever.

      • Locojuan's avatar Bozo said, on January 20, 2019 at 9:43 am

Hah, wearing a visor indoors is pretty sedate headgear for New Orleans, believe me…

Always thought the old AFL was really exciting, unlike Niners who varied btw mediocre and awful. Much more wide open and high scoring. Raiders were terrible when they first started playing at old Youell field and then Big Al took over and rebuilt the team. Just more fun to watch. Pretty soon Chiefs became hated rivals, something that’s never died btw them.
And Marty Schott used to own them.

I can remember some names from SB IV Chiefs — Lenny Dawson, Buck Buchanan, Willy Lanier, Curly Culp, Bobby Bell, Otis Taylor. The rest is foggy, but that was a solid team. They cuffed the Vikes around, and after that the AFL/NFL merger happened, because the AFC couldn’t be ignored after two SB wins in a row. I was a Raider fan back then, they and Chiefs had a great rivalry. Still remember Ben Davidson spearing Lenny on the turf in KC, sparking a huge brawl. NFL now is a pale reminder of those days. Chiefs fans haven’t been back to the SB in almost 50 years, so I’m feeling it, like a long-suffering Giants fan pre-2010, for the KC folks and hope they take the Pats down…

  5. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on January 20, 2019 at 10:05 am

    Travis Bergen.
    Logan Webb.
    Pitchers on the Giants 40-man.
On the team website, the other 38 dudes have pictures with their names, these dudes don’t.
Maybe they are on the back of milk cartons …

    • Locojuan's avatar Bozo said, on January 20, 2019 at 10:19 am

We just picked up Bergen as a Rule 5 guy, so maybe they haven’t had time to air brush a Giants hat on him yet. Webb? Well, if I’m Webb, I wouldn’t want my current photo used, ever.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on January 20, 2019 at 10:28 am

They picked up Bergen in mid-December. That’s 5 weeks.
Maybe they fired the photo guy along with the strength trainer late last season.
Or, maybe the ZMan hasn’t gotten his Giants lap top yet?…

  6. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on January 20, 2019 at 10:25 am

That Longoria albatross contract is a killer. I smell a new Rohand-like situation, but I doubt the ZMan would let that fester for 4 more years. This is from Baggarly’s recent column on the Giants in theAthletic. Fairly astounding…

“Most critically, we’re talking about the $92 million already committed for 2021 (due to Posey, Cueto, Belt, Crawford and Longoria). That’s the most tied-up cash in the major leagues. The Boston Red Sox (a little over $86 million), the Washington Nationals (~$76 million) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (~$71 million) are the only teams that even approach the Giants in terms of payroll commitments for 2021.”

  7. xoot's avatar xoot said, on January 20, 2019 at 10:54 am

If Zaidi can jettison Longo, he’s a genius indeed. Smarj should go overboard, too. His contract only (only!) runs through 2020, but at $18M, it’d be good to ditch.

We probably should prepare for openers and relief parades in 2019.

  8. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on January 20, 2019 at 11:09 am

I hated the Raiders as a kid (we were predisposed to be Niners OR Raiders fans) so I dug KC and SD. I mean, I did love some of their players (Freddy B, Ghost to the post, the Snake, Sea of Hands, Ted Hendricks, etc.) but Dirty Al Davis was such a maor league asshole tha it was easy to root against them.

I know i’ve posted a few times about Brady being the GOAT. Saw this on sports center…

A crazy STAT..Brady playing in HIS 13TH AFC TITLE GAME IN 17 YEARS AS A STARTER. The old record? Joe who played in 7.
His record in those 7 was 4-3.
I love Joe, and he will always be my fav 49. I’m rooting for the Chiefs! But if i was betting (Craig?) I wouldn’t put money on them. Not against the GOAT!

PS..Rams win too. With Talib they give up 17 ppg, without him 30. He’s back, and changes the game the way Deon and Revis did. Gurley / Anderson duo ground and pound and keep Brees off the field. Take the dogs today!!

  16. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on January 20, 2019 at 11:52 am

In the 80s, to get to a SB, the Niners had to go through the Cowboys, Giants and Skins. I don’t see any teams like those that have been consistently in the way of the Pats during the Brady era. And, the Pats have had a home-field heavy playoffs schedule over their reign due to their gimme victories in that putrid AFC East…

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on January 20, 2019 at 12:17 pm

The Pats have a fucking 20 game preseason. It’s fairly easy to see how they get so far all the time. Parity has watered down the competition as well. Like you said, the gauntlet back in the day was much tougher. The AFC in the 70s was all about the Raiders, Steelers, Chiefs, and Dolphins.

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on January 20, 2019 at 2:30 pm
