Action Required, Action Demanded!
Well, here we are. July 31st. Our supposed *Super Bowl*. Sadly, Zaidi has been as inactive as….Sabean? I’ve fully braced myself for an onslaught of absolutely nothing happening—what a travesty that will be. And I will reign condemnation down upon Young Z. This is your damn job, man. This is why you were brought in here!
If I wanted the Giants to keep all the old guys around and/or trade or sign more old guys I would have advocated for them to keep Evans and Sabean!
Z has improved the team with some solid, under the radar outfielders (Pillar, Yaz and Dick). But there is so much more that needs to get done. Fuck this year and this idiotic pipe dream chase for one damn game.
Do what you were brought in here to do Young Z. My wrath will be swift and painful should you fail….
speaking of “doing their job” could one of these dumbasses be right about something just once?
I assume he could have written the same thing for the past three months…
The Rangers traded some no name middle reliever to Atlanta for a guy that recently was a Top 100 prospect. I mean come on? Let’s get this show on the road.
It’s actually pretty funny. No one expected anything. Especially at the beginning of the year with Kokomo Joe and the Holograms. A couple weeks in Farhan gets Kevin Pillar, adds a few tweaks here and there, and all of a sudden we are relevant.
He’s doing his job too well too soon. Only the FB housewives and the ‘it’s early’ crowd were behind the team. Of course they weren’t going to games, the park was drawing about 14,000 in actual bodies, they were merely postying on facebook castigating the trade-’em-all crowd. Season ticket holders of course were of the mind to take a flamethrower to the lineup as up until very recently, say the Flap Invasion (6/28/19, a day that will live in glory – 20-7 since then), it WAS sell sell sell.
But here we are, 2.5 games out with 3 teams to jump. We are playing Philly right now and at home, and we have Washington at home soon. Chicago is coming up as well.
BUT, the trade deadline ends in 4 hours and 45 minutes. Sorry Flav, I think the team is standing pat. Farhan did too god of a job, and now he has to play out the string.
Beyond that, are there any guarantees we get gold from getting prospects/ No.
Whatever he does, thousands of fans will be pissed off. So, let it ride. Bird in the hand and all that . . .
I’d rather have some possible gold in my hand than an old bird. Dat bird ain’t gonna fly as high as we need him to fly.
And the crowds are back.
Well, they lost. Would not surprise me if Zman does swing a deal or two. Interesting next 5 hours.
I think he wants to give who he has a chance to show who they are, re guys like Dick Yaz Slater Solano Green and young pitching of whom I expect to see more. Off season he upgrades OF and starts fixing IF and makes pitching decisions. His real job is make the ML club relevant, not fill out A ball San Jose Giants.
PS. The debate was worth watching. Easily could see 5-6 of these guys as Prexy. How they break out of the pack is not clear.
OSF
There’s a long way to go here, but I’m sorry, Bernie can’t be pres. Like having your cranky uncle run the show.
I didn’t watch the whole thing, but Mayor Pete looked good. And I was getting annoyed with the leading questions they ask. Like they are provided by the RNC. Beyond thet, the format is too much like the Bachelor. I expected Jake tapper to hand out roses to the top 5 candidates.
5 of 6 of those candidates would guarantee the President winning 40 states..
If the rebuild gets delayed a bit so Bochy can have a playoff chase in his final season, I don’t have a problem with that.
It’s an act of gratitude to Bochy. A way of giving a real tangible ‘thank you’ to him. It’s not a narrative I cared about early in the season, and it seemed irrelevant, but the team’s amazing surge brought it to life.
It’s an excruciatingly difficult choice for Zaidi. You know he wants to get on with the rebuild. But things can change. Two teams didn’t run away with the Wild Card, and the Giants started actually playing well.
The thing is, outside of the guys on the trade block (Bum, Smith, Watson) most of this teams success has been because of Z’s guys. It’s not like their winning because of Posey, Belt and Crawford. So I look at it this way, Z can trade the tradeable pieces and still hang his hat on the teams success having been because of the Dicks, Pillars and Vogt’s.
And you know what, the guys in the clubhouse clamoring for him not to make moves are probably Posey, Belt and Crawford. Fuck em.
Exactly. If we could MOVE Crawfish, Belt and Posey, the team would be SO much better. Let alone Smargle and Melonhead. And uh Longo. They owe it to themselves to bring up Avelina (?), the SS and get him some playing time in the bigs. Crawfish is still defending pretty well, most of the time, but he’s not hitting for diddly.
I mean, will the OG (ownership group) give Farhan the ability to simply cut any one or two of those guys now or at season’s end?
Krukow was saying the other day that vets like Longo, Vogt and Smargle deserved a shot to get to the playoffs/WS as they were running out of chances. Uh, no. Ernie banks deserved a playoff run. As did Billy Williams.
I said when the season started that the front office was doing Bochy no favors by trotting out such a shitty lineup. Now that it is better, they shouldn’t pull the rug out from under him again. Give him his last run. And GH will break out the Saran wrap as Boch gets his 2,000 win. 20 games to go!
Little more than an hour to go,hopefully some move is made.
These days, how do they memorialize a trade, with this deadline / time issue?
Still a FAX?
Email for the time stamp? Text?
Maybe any of the above…
Fax? What is this 1996?
Hey, didn’t half MLB not even know Sabes’ phone #?
I assume Zman has the electronics under control. But, if you finally agree on the bodies traded 2 minutes shy of the 1 pm deadline, how do you get it memorialized in time? And, I think it has to be in to the League office by then, not just agreed between the teams. Maybe a phone call / text is enough, with the details following…
Where are you getting 1pm??? Deadline is 4pm Eastern time.
Thinking 🤔 the same thing Blade 4:00 pm eastern time 1:00 on the west coast ..
They have the best BP in baseball every contender yes including the G’s in the/w/cslot) are jealous of, and every team is trying to lowball every team with prospects from the Tequila leagues.I can’t blame Z not making a deal especially with a pen that will keep him in games more then others for sure.
Action, but not us . . . The Rays and Brewers have agreed to trading Jesus Aguilar from Milwaukee to Tampa Bay. Milwaukee is acquiring right-hander Jake Faria in return.
Zzzzzz. Zumie will be thrilled with his -0.3 WAR.
Yeah blade, I knew it was 1 pm PST, just hadn’t had my coffee yet. Tell Zman it’s 10 am PST so he gets something done.
BTW, welcome back…
🙂
Giants are holding back Thursday’s start of Shaun Anderson probably due to innings and recent lack of effectiveness. My guess Connor Mendez gets the callup for Thursday..
Stros get Candy (Martin) Maldonado for the cubs for Tony Kemp.
Damned if you do damned if you don’t.
What little minor leagues pieces we have we want to keep, so we can’t be buyers.
Bummie and Smith look like they are going to stay.
But holy shit, with the pen depth we have, you’d think we could do SOMETHING. Watson, Dyson, Gott, and now Pom pom pom pom pomeranz should be good for something.
Scary though though, if Smith goes, the Giants would trot out Melonhead as the closer.
Syndegaard off the block according to the Mets.
Wonder how much autonomy Z has had, or if Baer is calling the shots on any trades….
Baer should have no clout in any moves anymore. If anything his wife should be handing out the shots to his ugly mug..
Agree, Kat… Baer shouldn’t have even been allowed back into the baseball side of things… Well, if no moves are made, and suddenly Z quits his job, we’ll know how much autonomy he didn’t have….
Steve, sent you a message on FB Messenger if you’re around…
Pads fans not happy. They finally had a prospect (Reyes) put up legit numbers at this level and they trade him for yet another prospect. Though it sounds like this guy Trammell, while having a down year at AA, has a helluva lot of upside. Ballsy move.
I watched debate on tape and thought it was very good. Mayor Pete impresses me as well. I liked what Ryan had to say too.
Crazy thing is it sounded like Fox News was asking the questions. Bernie was getting pissed about it. Which was pretty funny actually.
I like Mayor Pete too. Not this debate, but the first one (I think), I gave him a lot of credit for admitting failure in this exchange with Rachel Maddow:
“In the last five years civil rights activists in our country have led a national debate over race and the criminal justice system. Your community in South Bend Indiana has recently been in uproar over and officer involved shooting . the police force in South Bend is not 6% black in a city that is 26% black. Why has that not improved over your two terms as mayor?” Rachel Maddow asked Buttigieg.
“Because I couldn’t get it done,” Buttigieg explained.“My community is in anguish right now, because of an officer involved shooting, a black man, Eric Logan, killed by a white officer. I’m not allowed to take sides until the investigation comes back. the officer said he was attacked with a knife but he didn’t have his body camera on,” he explained.
“I could walk you through all the things that we have done as a community. All of the steps that we took from bias training to de-escalation, but it didn’t save the life of Eric Logan,” he said.
Personally, I thought the question was totally unfair by Rachel (whom I usually like), but regardless, Mayor Pete didn’t avoid the question or make excuses. He owned it. Also, in my opinion, he has the brightest mind of all the candidates, i.e., he thinks very fast on his feet in these debate situations.
I agree. He’s smart, he’s a vet, he’s a standup guy, and he isn’t married to the polls. A refreshing change from the fucking clown show going on now.
Nats get Pitcher Dan Hudson from Blue Jays for prospect pitcher Kyle Johnson.
Nats get Daniel Hudson from Bluejays for Kyle Johnson
I envision Z-man pacing in his office with multiple GMs on the line, kind of like Kevin Costner in Draft Day, wheeling and dealing. Reality of it is probably completely different. Would be cool to be a fly on the wall…
Nats get Roenis Elias from Mariners.
Nice to see who is dictating policy in our country.
Sometimes I fantasize about being a super black-ops guy like Jason Bourne. Hannity would be at the top of my list to make disappear…..
Now that’s funny. Or Roger Ailes 20 years ago.
Giants flying in Sam Selman,Ray Black&Andrew Suarez in anticipation of trades before the deadline..
Brewers and Giants agree on significant trade per MLB Network…
I get upset thinking about the return the Giants could have had if they traded Bum this time two years ago. Of course his motorbike accident screwed any potential return he could have gotten last year at this time. Teams will not overpay for rentals like they did in the past. I think Zaidi feels the compensatory pick is going to be of greater value than what the marketing is currently willing to pay.
With you Joe. Also props for your 9:39am.
The bike thing was 2 years ago.
The broken finger was last year…
It’s when this season is over, we’ll see Zaidi fully free to go for the rebuild. I expect a lot of moves from him in the off-season.
Pom-pom to Brewers…
Plus Ray Black for Dubon…
Dubon sounds very promising. This could be steal for the Giants.
Mad Dog loves it…
Have I not called Dubon for the last week???? And did not have time trade Will Smith for him???
I knew I’d been hearing that name somewhere.
Good job, GH…
I was in on him as well GH, and to get him for peanuts 🥜 even more impressive by Z!
Great savvy deal by Farhan!!!
Fuckin’ A’s get Roard from the Reds.
Everybody but us . . .
Fuck mlb.com. I get everything but the Giants trade?
Hunter Strickland to Nats of all places…
A year too late!
Dubon is a good pickup.
Black is the 100 MPH wild thing, right? A poor man’s Hunter Strickland?
I’m still not seeing shit on the Giants trades.
What a great trade! Márcio Dubon 24 gives you flexibility at 2B and SS and a #4 prospect!
Working some magic Z!
Pom lol&Black with a history of injuries this is a steal!!
The Giants had been carrying a 5th outfielder, so I guess Austin heads to Sac-town.
Just crossed my phone. Crawfish, be very afraid.
If Zaidi can get a top prospect 2b for Pom Pom and Black, I would love to see what he pulls off with Smith and Watson.
With Solano and now Dubon, we may just DFA panik.
If they want to still carry 5 outfielders.
They can dump Tyler Austin over Austin Slater if they want…Are Austin Austin
If they don;t get a starter for Smith, they shouldn’t deal him.
Relief pitching is quickly becoming more valuable than starting pitching. The times they are a changing.
You know they didn’t bring up LH reliever Sam Selman for no reason.Smith are Watson will be on the move maybe both..
Hooray, the infield rebuild is underway…
If Smith or Watson go, Belt or Crawfish go with them.
Now if we could only swindle the A’s for 1B Matt Olson..Belt &Watson and a low end prospect?
The Astros and Yankees who both need another starter must be playing chicken right about now. I guess they think if one doesn’t make a move, then neither does the other.
Robbie Ray is still available.
WJ, would the Astros be willing to give up Kyle Tucker &Waitley ? for Bum?
Are even the Yanks with Frazier& Neivi Garcia these are the players I’m sure Z wants, but would either team do it?
No, not both for a rental. They MIGHT pull the trigger on Tucker for Bum since he looked so overmatched in his stint in the bigs last year. I would love to see that for both sides.
Phillies got Corey Dickerson from the Pirates.
Never happen, but with 1B Voit possibly out for quite awhile could the Yanks be interested in Belt?
Why the hell not? If am Zadi, I am feeding the biggest line of bullshit to other GM’s how Belt needs a change of scenery and how he would flourish outside of SF.
Belt could triple his HR output with that short right porch.
Marlins trade RHP Zac Gallen to Diamondbacks for SS Jazz Chisolm. Now there’s a name for you.
Jerko to LA…
About the only weakness in the Dodger minor leagues is middle infielders.
I’d send Belt, Smarj and Watson to Yanks for Frazier, Byrd and Ellsbury’s contract…
Sold
I can’t see any part of Ellsbury’s shit contract and he hasn’t played in 2 years?Atleast Shark’s on the field with his and actually is contributing some.Yes I want Belt gone but not to add Ellsbury’s contract..
You gotta take some money back in this fantasy deal, Kat…
Digging finally all the action by the GM’s!
Quote from the great movie Heat:
Michael…Well ya know, for me, “the action is the juice”
Braves get closer Shane Greene from Deetroit.
Nice trade, getting rid of Pom Pom for a quality INF prospect. Here’s a write-up on Dubon from the Brewers web site:
Returning to Triple-A in 2018, Dubon got off to a strong start and seemed poised to join the Brewers in the big leagues until he required season-ending surgery to repair a torn ACL in May. He made a healthy return in 2019 and put up solid numbers in Triple-A before making his big league debut in early July. In doing so, he became the first player from Honduras to appear in the Major Leagues.
Dubon can do a little bit of everything on the diamond and offers more than the typical sum-of-all-parts player. He has excellent hand-eye coordination and a quick right-handed bat that helps him make barreled, line-drive contact with relative ease. He also has a good approach, and scouts project him as at least an average hitter. While he’s enjoyed an uptick in power as he’s grown stronger, Dubon is more likely to be a source of doubles and triples than home runs. He’s able to tally some of those extra-base hits thanks to above-average speed that netted him at least 30 steals in three straight seasons.
Dubon has the quick hands and feet as well as the arm strength to make plays from either side of the bag. He split time in 2017 between both shortstop and second base, showing well at both spots, and it’s fair to think he’ll be able to play whatever position the Brewers ask of him. That versatility, as well as his probable contributions at the plate, gives Dubon a high floor as a big leaguer.
If no further trades…I say I win the LooPool for nailing our new 2b….he should start immediately…
Bum’s fate is the first decider…
Melon about to go to Braves!
Mark Melancon traded to the Braves!
So they just picked up 3 relievers Greene,Martin& Melonface not a bad run they needed for the stretch run.
Who did we get for Melonhead?
Not sure besides salary dump relief..
They haven’t said yet – or how much of Melonbucks the Giants will be paying…
We need nothing back to get out of a chunk of that contract…
Now cleared Melancon…well done…can we add a bat in the next 7 minutes???
That’s what we’re getting for Melonhead. A bat.
Dollars to donuts, the Gmen had to pay part of his contract. No biggie, just glad Melanoma is GONE (a trade I hated before it was even consummated way back when).
Exactly. ONE big contract bites the dust,
I’ll tell you one thing, Pom pom and Melonhead were pretty far down the list of guys who would be on other teams’ radar.
Both are RHPs. From Baseball America:
Beck is the Braves’ No. 30 prospect and missed time this year with an oblique injury.
Winkler has a 4.98 ERA in 27 big league appearances this year.
So let me get this straight…. The big names (Bum/Smith/Watson) all stay… Melonhead and PomPom go… and Giants get some young bats. That’s some serious horse trading by Z.
Sorry, one young bat and some young arms. Still…. wow.
Z did a great job. Still wondering about Melon’s $$$.
Congrats to Pawlie – apparently the winner of Gift Card & Bonus Prize if Bum & Smith stay…
Agree. What many people don’t understand, is that it takes 2 to tango. Not just saying that to defend Z . . . Said the same thing about Sabes too (albeit, I did have a problem with Evans moves and non-moves).
By the by, there was no last-minute deal for Bumgarner, the Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal tweets. Stil, trades are still trickling in apparently (again Rosenthal saying this).
My big takeaway is that the Yankees blew it, but we’ll have to wait to see how it all pans out.
I don’t think the Yanks get to the World Series this season.
Greinke to the Astros!!
Huge move by the Stros,Verlander,Cole&Greinke a formidable trio for the playoffs! This should put them over the top now as the favorites…
Greinke, Aaron Sanchez to Astros!
Leake to AZ…
Tristan Beck pitched at Stanford. That should make Flavor happy 😃!
Really solid moves by Z dumping Pom&Melonhead &Black and still keeping the BP solid..
Grienke to the Stros!
