A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Tough To Overcome Bad Pitching

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 8, 2020

Look the Dodgers just have much better players than we do. There’s no shame in admitting that, they have better players than most teams. While I think our hitting has improved some it is going to have a hard time making up for the pitching which is not good. I’m hoping Z and Kap understand you can’t piggy back and patch work your way through a game. At least you can’t do that over time, with average pitchers. If we had better hitters we would be more competitive in games like last night but you know what? We do have better hitters than we did a couple of years ago so I’ll take what we have and like it.

Hope you all watch The Travers today! The Flap’s OFFICIAL horse mascot this year, Uncle Chuck, is running and trying to defeat the great Tiz the Law. Let’s hope he gets it done and brings home a much anticipated and richly deserved horse racing crown to the Flap.

Major league batting leader at .460 now with 7 double-barrels. M.L. runs scored leader with 11 or 12 now, sports 4 dingers and 6 double-troubles. Between Donnie Barrels and the Yazmanian Devil we got us a couple guys who can pound that horsehide.

Once in awhile Kapler gets something right. In a previous thread I noted that Rogers seems to be arriving as the 7th inning setup man. He gives em such a different look that most batters cannot easily square up on those torpedos. We all recall his misadventures v the LaBumbos in the first series when he was brought into a fireman situation with men on base. He got a case of the yips. Can happen to the best of them. So far xxx , presented with a clean slate, Rogers gets it done.

  41. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on August 8, 2020 at 8:28 pm

Kapler may not even be a placeholder. If this team keeps playing like blind-drunk sailors, he will get canned in October.

Well hell,Unc, looks like we were both wrong. Rogers went two and no problemo. Wow! If this guy can successfully slide through the two setup innings with no damage done–particularly v a bunch of heavies like the LaBumbos, perhaps part of the bullpen equation is dissolved.

Perhaps the best protocol would be to bench him for maybe 3 days…or at least tomorrow, so he can play his last series deep in the heart of his home state.

I think Kapler’s biggest mistake was having only Watson warming up when Cueto ran into trouble. If he let him pitch to Bellinger, you wouldn’t bring in Watson to face Turner even if Muncy was behind him so he needed someone else preferably RHP. He backed himself into a corner once Cueto walked Bellinger.

  63. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2020 at 9:25 pm

Kapler could brought anybody in to pitch due to an injury, that’s on him and the trainer. And the new pitcher assuming RHP would of gotten as much time to warmup..

  64. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2020 at 9:29 pm

  65. Carstie Clausen's avatar Carstie Clausen said, on August 8, 2020 at 9:31 pm

Hey! Anyone who is still somewhat sober after that game turned into a nail biter–check out the official MLB site’s video of Pence in a total state of confusion as the ball drops at the edge of the track… a good 30 feet behind him and a can of corn for any MLB left fielder.

After he figures out wha-hoppen, he pulls the mask over his face in what appears to be a moment of total shame for his typically littleleague fuckup. If the guy wants to salvage the least little bit of his pride, he should announce his retirement tomorrow…or at least do so next week when the Giants play in deepest Texas.

Had not Rogers and Gott saved the game, he probably would have wilted to death in the clubhouse. If Zaidi and/or the owners view the videos, Kapler could get forced to make an announcement–or maybe it will be Z or some spokesman, P.R. type who is capable of successfully painting lipstick on a hog.

MLB needs to stop doinking around on the Kelly issue and get him serving his suspension.

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2020 at 10:08 pm

Kelly actually has a lot of backing from many players taking on the Cheating Astros. Many believe, the Astros players should of been given big suspensions which didn’t happen, and you want to suspend Kelly 8 games in a game he wasn’t even tossed out of? Just isn’t a level playing field I believe. Now I don’t advocate head hunting though, just drill them in the ribs!

  67. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on August 8, 2020 at 9:49 pm

Kelly reminds me of when Pedro Martinez went to the AL and figured, hey they can’t throw at me, so I’ll go after them.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on August 8, 2020 at 9:57 pm

But he’s gonna get one of his own hitters hurt instead throwing 98 near guys’ heads. Suppose he had hit Yaz there—guarantee you tomorrow one of Dodgers goes down. Sure a Giant and Kapler get ejected but they are heroes in clubhouse and a Dodger gets hurt. And LA wouldn’t be able to do anything about it either.

Like Zum said, he needs to serve out his 8 game fully justified suspension, asap.

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on August 8, 2020 at 10:02 pm

I’m, not condoning his shit. He appears to be a flake of the highest order. He’s gonna get his own guys fucked with. 8 games means he misses what? A couple innings? Then again, that’s more penalty than the Astros got for cheating in the 1st place

  70. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on August 8, 2020 at 10:28 pm

In the past, teams would wait until they made a trip to NY City, then the player would meet with MLB and plead his case, and usually would get his suspension reduced a little bit. It was like an MLB ritual.
But….the Dodgers make no trip to the East this season. So what is MLB waiting for on the suspension?

  71. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on August 8, 2020 at 10:32 pm

  75. willedav's avatar willedav said, on August 9, 2020 at 7:27 am

Still trying to figure out why Kapler had Watson up and throwing yet didn’t use him until it was too late…to face whom? Pederson would have been the thanks for great outing move–by then 1 out bases empty. After Cueto walked him he got Betts on popup 2 outs runner on first.
Bellinger the obvious choice same thought process. watson vs. LH up 5-1 with 2 outs. If he gets out of it he doesn’t have to face Turner in 7th. If Cueto had gotten out of inning that meant Watson got up and threw for nothing.
