Tough To Overcome Bad Pitching

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 8, 2020

Look the Dodgers just have much better players than we do. There’s no shame in admitting that, they have better players than most teams. While I think our hitting has improved some it is going to have a hard time making up for the pitching which is not good. I’m hoping Z and Kap understand you can’t piggy back and patch work your way through a game. At least you can’t do that over time, with average pitchers. If we had better hitters we would be more competitive in games like last night but you know what? We do have better hitters than we did a couple of years ago so I’ll take what we have and like it.

Hope you all watch The Travers today! The Flap’s OFFICIAL horse mascot this year, Uncle Chuck, is running and trying to defeat the great Tiz the Law. Let’s hope he gets it done and brings home a much anticipated and richly deserved horse racing crown to the Flap.

Major league batting leader at .460 now with 7 double-barrels. M.L. runs scored leader with 11 or 12 now, sports 4 dingers and 6 double-troubles. Between Donnie Barrels and the Yazmanian Devil we got us a couple guys who can pound that horsehide.

And Slater starting to make some noise.

    • unca_chuck said, on August 8, 2020 at 7:44 pm

He skipped or stopped short when running to cover first. He walked fine after thatn but we’ll see next inning,

      Is that a coveted QS?

      • xoot said, on August 8, 2020 at 7:54 pm

        Cueto looks fine

  12. unca_chuck said, on August 8, 2020 at 7:43 pm

Huzzah! The seas parted, the light shone down, and God created a hit for Pence!

All the way up to .057.

    • Carstie Clausen said, on August 8, 2020 at 7:49 pm

Something about # 57 this evening. As of 5 innings of very clean pitching, Cueto’s ERA has gone Magnum at .3.57.

  13. alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2020 at 7:44 pm

    OMFG he got a hit!
This screws up the roulette wheel!!

    • djloo27 said, on August 8, 2020 at 7:47 pm

      Yup. I think he’s a respectable .063 now…

  14. alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2020 at 7:47 pm

    Don’t make excuses K&K !!!

  21. djloo27 said, on August 8, 2020 at 7:57 pm

    Good in 2 ways…

    1) It would’ve been idiotic to over-extend Cueto just for a stupid meaningless no-no.
    2) Maybe this will convince Pence to pack it in.

  22. unca_chuck said, on August 8, 2020 at 7:57 pm

Pence should stay in LA and walk home. Fuck him. Great Giant? fuck this. His legacy is circling the drain.

Quit making excuses for Pence, Kruk.

  35. Carstie Clausen said, on August 8, 2020 at 8:13 pm

In for a Pence, in for a pounding. Once in a blue moon the guy manages to get a base-hit…good chance there that he was guessing and managed to run into one. Then he can’t play the outfield much better than your average high school jock. So what’s with Kapler? Does he still wear Doghouse blue in his heart of hearts?

    • djloo27 said, on August 8, 2020 at 8:16 pm

      Does Zaidi?

      • Carstie Clausen said, on August 8, 2020 at 8:25 pm

After Z’s successes in dumpster-diving for the Giants and landing some pretty impressive pick-me-ups, I would seriously doubt that. Anyway, Zaidi’s heritage is Pakistani, not Texan or anything else which might come to mind.

    • zumiee said, on August 8, 2020 at 8:20 pm

      Why would they?

      • djloo27 said, on August 8, 2020 at 8:24 pm

Pence and his scooter have to go

  39. Carstie Clausen said, on August 8, 2020 at 8:23 pm

Just in case he owns a pair of them, Kappenstein should send in a pinch-hitter for Pence to lead off the next inning.

  40. xoot said, on August 8, 2020 at 8:27 pm

80 mph “rise” is “completely unique”. hmm. Maybe I can use that pitch.

    • Carstie Clausen said, on August 8, 2020 at 8:41 pm

Once in awhile Kapler gets something right. In a previous thread I noted that Rogers seems to be arriving as the 7th inning setup man. He gives em such a different look that most batters cannot easily square up on those torpedos. We all recall his misadventures v the LaBumbos in the first series when he was brought into a fireman situation with men on base. He got a case of the yips. Can happen to the best of them. So far xxx , presented with a clean slate, Rogers gets it done.

  41. unca_chuck said, on August 8, 2020 at 8:28 pm

Kapler may not even be a placeholder. If this team keeps playing like blind-drunk sailors, he will get canned in October.

  42. alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2020 at 8:35 pm

Big fucking deal if Pence was upset, doesn’t change a thing..

  43. unca_chuck said, on August 8, 2020 at 8:39 pm

I don;t like this guy Rogers.

    • Carstie Clausen said, on August 8, 2020 at 8:42 pm

Was here and not watching the action. Did K. run Rogers out again in the 8th? If so, its on Kapler.

      • Carstie Clausen said, on August 8, 2020 at 8:46 pm

Well hell,Unc, looks like we were both wrong. Rogers went two and no problemo. Wow! If this guy can successfully slide through the two setup innings with no damage done–particularly v a bunch of heavies like the LaBumbos, perhaps part of the bullpen equation is dissolved.

      • alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2020 at 8:47 pm

Got the job done, But he will go with Gott in the bottom of the 9th you would think..

Kelly gets the Yazmanian Devil on a 96 mph stinker, Nasty. Currently, with 7 IP, dude has given up 5 hits and nada runs.

  47. Carstie Clausen said, on August 8, 2020 at 8:59 pm

MLB site features Pence standing there, glove raised and a dazed and confused look on his face. It’s a classic, sad though it be. One helluva swan-song if he gets canned tomorrow. Perhaps the best protocol would be to bench him for maybe 3 days…or at least tomorrow, so he can play his last series deep in the heart of his home state.

  48. djloo27 said, on August 8, 2020 at 9:00 pm

SF 11-6 in 1 run games vs LA in last 2 years per radio post game (mlb radio)

  62. willedav said, on August 8, 2020 at 9:19 pm

I think Kapler’s biggest mistake was having only Watson warming up when Cueto ran into trouble. If he let him pitch to Bellinger, you wouldn’t bring in Watson to face Turner even if Muncy was behind him so he needed someone else preferably RHP. He backed himself into a corner once Cueto walked Bellinger.

  63. alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2020 at 9:25 pm

Kapler could brought anybody in to pitch due to an injury, that’s on him and the trainer. And the new pitcher assuming RHP would of gotten as much time to warmup..

  64. alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2020 at 9:29 pm

Os Kapler is saying Johnny was dealing with a blister, and he and the trainer felt he could continue?? WTF that’s just so DUMB!!

  65. Carstie Clausen said, on August 8, 2020 at 9:31 pm

Hey! Anyone who is still somewhat sober after that game turned into a nail biter–check out the official MLB site’s video of Pence in a total state of confusion as the ball drops at the edge of the track… a good 30 feet behind him and a can of corn for any MLB left fielder.

After he figures out wha-hoppen, he pulls the mask over his face in what appears to be a moment of total shame for his typically littleleague fuckup. If the guy wants to salvage the least little bit of his pride, he should announce his retirement tomorrow…or at least do so next week when the Giants play in deepest Texas.

Had not Rogers and Gott saved the game, he probably would have wilted to death in the clubhouse. If Zaidi and/or the owners view the videos, Kapler could get forced to make an announcement–or maybe it will be Z or some spokesman, P.R. type who is capable of successfully painting lipstick on a hog.

    • zumiee said, on August 8, 2020 at 9:36 pm

I’m not necessarily defending a guy missing a flyball by a mile, but outfielders do lose the ball in the twilight sometimes.

    • djloo27 said, on August 8, 2020 at 9:39 pm

I think Pence is the first outfielder to lose a fly ball in Jupiter…

  66. zumiee said, on August 8, 2020 at 9:33 pm

MLB needs to stop doinking around on the Kelly issue and get him serving his suspension.

    • alleykat69 said, on August 8, 2020 at 10:08 pm

Kelly actually has a lot of backing from many players taking on the Cheating Astros. Many believe, the Astros players should of been given big suspensions which didn’t happen, and you want to suspend Kelly 8 games in a game he wasn’t even tossed out of? Just isn’t a level playing field I believe. Now I don’t advocate head hunting though, just drill them in the ribs!

  67. unca_chuck said, on August 8, 2020 at 9:49 pm

Kelly reminds me of when Pedro Martinez went to the AL and figured, hey they can’t throw at me, so I’ll go after them.

    • willedav said, on August 8, 2020 at 9:57 pm

But he’s gonna get one of his own hitters hurt instead throwing 98 near guys’ heads. Suppose he had hit Yaz there—guarantee you tomorrow one of Dodgers goes down. Sure a Giant and Kapler get ejected but they are heroes in clubhouse and a Dodger gets hurt. And LA wouldn’t be able to do anything about it either.

Like Zum said, he needs to serve out his 8 game fully justified suspension, asap.

      • unca_chuck said, on August 8, 2020 at 10:02 pm

I’m, not condoning his shit. He appears to be a flake of the highest order. He’s gonna get his own guys fucked with. 8 games means he misses what? A couple innings? Then again, that’s more penalty than the Astros got for cheating in the 1st place

  68. Macdog said, on August 8, 2020 at 9:56 pm

Finally saw The Play on MLB Network — Pence nowhere near the fence.

  69. unca_chuck said, on August 8, 2020 at 10:19 pm

Wow. Dutch Oven throws 11 pitches in the 1st inning and gives up 4 home runs.

  70. zumiee said, on August 8, 2020 at 10:28 pm

In the past, teams would wait until they made a trip to NY City, then the player would meet with MLB and plead his case, and usually would get his suspension reduced a little bit. It was like an MLB ritual.
But….the Dodgers make no trip to the East this season. So what is MLB waiting for on the suspension?

  71. zumiee said, on August 8, 2020 at 10:32 pm

Digging around in the Google machine, it looks like Kelly is having his hearing on Monday. It is surely via Skype or Zoom or whatever.

  72. zumiee said, on August 8, 2020 at 10:36 pm

The Dodgers play the Padres and Angels next week.

  73. snarkk said, on August 8, 2020 at 11:29 pm

I wouldn’t burn Pence down for losing the ball in the twilight lights.
His woeful awfense is the problem. Jaylin Davis should be on the way back from a Sac tuneup, and let Pence off the roster before he really destroys his Giants legacy…

  74. zumiee said, on August 9, 2020 at 12:24 am

Tomorrow’s game is on the MLB Network in most of the nation. (It’s on the Giants network, too, as usual.)

  75. willedav said, on August 9, 2020 at 7:27 am

Still trying to figure out why Kapler had Watson up and throwing yet didn’t use him until it was too late…to face whom? Pederson would have been the thanks for great outing move–by then 1 out bases empty. After Cueto walked him he got Betts on popup 2 outs runner on first.
Bellinger the obvious choice same thought process. watson vs. LH up 5-1 with 2 outs. If he gets out of it he doesn’t have to face Turner in 7th. If Cueto had gotten out of inning that meant Watson got up and threw for nothing.
