New Thread
I didn’t expect to wake up this morning to Stix quoting Tupac lines:
Untouchable…like in Elliot Ness?
WordPress has completely changed their format for writing and uploading threads. As it is with anything new these days, it’s unnecessary and worse than the old way.
So this thread will be short and sweet and hopefully this loads properly.
Flav: You mean Tupac made the same identical statement? Not improbable, but an interesting coinkydink.
K/K were talking about HOF guys. Last one who got in to play for Giants–Randy Johnson?
I’m pretty sure John Kruk would say Johnson is a HOFer.
Next one would be Bochy?
I still think Kent and Vizquel both should be in the hall of farce, but doesn’t look likely for either.
Nice W yesterday. Another error-less game (our boys have only committed two in the last week). That is an improvement. Will be interesting over the next week or so to see how the Bore Core do. Craw with another 2B yesterday, and Longo with a couple of hits. Pence 0-4…just cut ties, already.
The more I see Slater the more I like him. He should be in the line-up every day, with an occasional day off. If Farhan gets active in trading some pieces for youngsters, I think Slater should stay and be a part of the rebuild (Yaz, too).
Will be interesting to see if they deal Johnny Shimmy or Solano before the deadline. Those two seem the most likely, IMO. Question is, will other teams be willing to deal a decent prospect for a piece like Shimmy or Solano in this bizarre and shortened season.
Slater’s elbow’s still sore, I think. If he could stay healthy (doesn’t that sound strange right now), he’d be just fine in the OF and in the LU next to Yaz.
Yeah, the whole prospect thing is pretty fucked up with prolly 80% of them not paying organized baseball now. So, do you evaluate based on last year? Scrimmages?
It would be tough to give up a front-line pitcher for someone you can’t see play.
Jeeze. Alluded to it last night in the re-cap. Timing couldn’t be better so far as team and fan morale go. If he bats 9th for starters it might give us a stinger in the tail–kinduva scorpion. We can maybe expect a BA barely surpassing our current pair, but when he hits it is with authority. He will have caught some of the younger pitchers, so a bit of rapport there. Calling a good game and being stout defensively should also help. Don’t expect him to make us contenders THIS year.
With the 2-game micro-streak and the addition of Bart this team could be fun again.
And from Baggs: Joey Bart is being promoted today, The Athletic has learned.
Fantastic news. Good timing too as we are on a mini roll.
Seen enough of Tromp/Heine I imagine. Imo had Posey not opted out he might have been here July to start season.
He’s learned and improved so much while in Sac, facing all that stiff competition.
We’ll see soon enough whether the fears of him being not ready are realized. I say, so what if they are?
With no minor leagues, he can learn up here…
Even with not seeing the players play this season, teams all know the capabilities of the player they seek. And with 16 teams making the playoffs (Playoffs don’t say that word Playoffs?) a lot of teams feeling there in it will likely deal, which can only help the Giants unload some more deadweight.
Untouchables.. A great series Staring Robert Stack as Eliot Ness And Leo Gordon as the Enforcer Frank Nitti
Bootlegging /Dames//Machine Guns/ just action pack from beginning to end. I should know I have the complete series on DVD 📀 anything produced by Quinn Martin back then is brilliant as was he..
and walter winchell. My sister watches them–sent me this excerpt the other day:
Criminal to Ness: You’ll take it easy on me won’t you?
Ness: sure. they’ll put a cushion on the electric chair.
All we need is Bart! (oompah tuba toots)
At we need . . . . etc.
The season just got interesting. Can’t wait to hear Krukow go wild over his neoteric catching squat.
He’s got 2 legs and he’ll use them both…
Joey Bart…Come on Down!
At worst, Bart’s skill set areas that need improvement in the offseason can be easily identified against MLB competition…
I’ve noticed more than ever that the same commercials are running over and over during Giant telecasts.
Doesn’t this mean that fewer sponsors are buying ad time?
Could part of the reason for bringing up Bart be to boost ratings?
there’s one commercial, for some internet company I think, that starts with two chiming notes, descending. Always reminds me of the start of Rollercoaster, by Little Walter, though the tones in Mr. Jacobs’s masterpiece are of course bluesier. That commercial runs all the damn time on every channel I turn to.
Kinda funny that on all those CarShield commercials promoted by Berman is the disclaimer with last sentence “coverage not available in California.”
The BART system would be a logical targeted sponsor–perhaps after Joey’s third dinger. He’d be a natural for the kinda role a good adman could concoct.
Watch Krukow go ballistic on Bart’s first catcher interference call..
That’ll be next year.
Watch the NFL network some time. They play the same 3 ads endlessly.
Fuck yeah! Woo hoo! Bart time!!!
Finally!!
I would like to think Zman after seeing Casey Mize get called up yesterday and pitched well, and that Bart being the last of the top 4 not to be in the Show helped in the decision finally to call him up.Plus the lack of production at catcher and their atrocious defense didn’t hurt in doing this move finally..
Man I am jacked up to see Bart in the LU tonight!
I’m guessing they will bat him 7th?to get his feet wet, but if he gets the Bart train rolling he will move up in the LU soon! I can see a pro like Longoria taking him under his wings for added advice..
Good point about the Mize booster rocket for the ball in the pocket.
One of the worst trends in commercials is everybody’s trying to be funny now. Insurance companies, of all things, are using humor. The soulless money-grubbing insurance companies are trying to warm our hearts and tickle our funny-bones with their TV commercials. Geico probably started the trend. Those Geico commercials are funny, but our insurance system is ridiculously convoluted and messed up in the U.S. There’s really nothing funny about it.
The Progressive insurance spokeswoman character is named Flo. Because nothing says “middle America” better than a woman named Flo, right?
flo and will, aren’t those the U.S. American translations of yin and yang?
God only knows how much less these companies could charge for insurance if they didn’t advertise so damn much.
That being said…..I’m a huge fan of Dr. Rick—who helps people avoid turning into their parents.
“We all see it. We all see it.”
Took out a Progressive policy a few years back. At the end of the term, with no driving problems on my part they jacked the rates up. That cued me in on where the name “progressive” comes from. Progressively, we will hike your payout while we hype In more marks over the boobtoob.
“Rick” is close to equal parts yin and yang.
I’m leery of this move and really hope it doesn’t trigger service time, but just to join in the fun:
Asked the fans who they wanted to see
They said, listen babe, call up Joe-y
We got no talent and it’s breaking our hearts
But we got a catcher, and that’s a start
Joey you can hit it far
Yes, you’re gonna be a star
Joey you can hit it far
…and maybe we’ll sign you
Beep, beep, and beep beep–YEAH!
LOL!!!!
I am in awe of that, dude.
Excellent!
ah that’s funny
great tune by the lads btw
Great one, Dawg.
Beating the meatles to that one! Good job.
Joey Bart will launch a HR into McCovey Cove. Maybe as soon as this Saturday.
nice. Putting the call out today that is very nice. I’m waiting on the call personally but don’t let that stop it from happening!!!
Not seeing the transaction for Bart on the Giants site, yet. Did see where they recalled Suarez and sent down Duggar, yesterday (not sure if that was mentioned yesterday, or not).
It wasn’t even on MLBTR. I checked on that soons as the name Suarez popped up.
Which C goes down? Chadwick or Hienie? My guess is Hienie…
who’s the catcher on the taxi squad? and wtf doesn’t the Giants webpage make it easy to answer that question?
Yeah, I couldn’t find shit on the taxi squad, either. On the team site for roster, there is the non-roster invitees. Bart is currently on that list along with three other Cs: Patrick Bailey, Rob Brantly, and Chris Herrmann.
His beloved #9 is not available.
He could have #2 which is also his position on a scorecard and would be a nice tribute to Dick Dietz.
Or he steal GraveDuggar’s #6 which is 9 upside down…
I’d say there like a 27% chance this guy is done.
I agree with Flavor. Z’s running PR flack. He knows there’s a good chance Buster won’t be back at all.
Gee, where does that leave Belt?
Pretty stoked on Bart arriving despite the delay.
Referencing Tupak and Dre in the lead deserves a GIF doesn’t it?
From Oakland to Sac-town, the Bay Area and back down
Cali is where they put their mack down; give me love!
excellent.
At least Bart can cool off in the City by the Bay. Heard rumors that the Central Valley and its outliers have been a bit steamy of late.
Yank-me’s down 8-5 in the top of the 8th with Tampa Bay at bat. Their starter, some guy named Paxton, didn’t quite get lit up, but was not too hot either. The Rays are giving them the jitters by clipping them in NYC. They get a bit more nervous about their rotation and Z’s phone could start ringing awful soon. He should hardball them all the way to the bank.
Don’t need 3 catchers, so between 2 evils on picking Tromp ove Heiney!
Much better power, 2 HR’s 6 RBI’s compared to Heiney’s No power 1 RBI and 3 catchers interference calls compared to Tromp’s one.
Both aren’t hitting a lick, but Tromp has more upside.Should be a no brainer Tromp gets the backup role.
It’s nightmarish to watch places I know go up in flames. I’m pretty sure a place I once rented near Bonny Doon blew up today. Pretty clean breeze off the ocean today around here, though.
yeah, really sad to see. When we first met my wife worked at that little bakery there in Bonny Doon.
if those old-growth redwoods in Big Basin survive, that place will be something to see later this winter
Friend of mine has lost his 2nd house in 3 years. No living in Napa these days.
One manager I would love to have but won’t happen is Tampa Bay’s Kevin Cash.
This guy really knows how to manage. He finds relievers off the scrap pile and turns them all into effective pitchers, and really no set roles how he uses them.
They have an incredible 7 saves from 7 different pitches, so closer? Not for this team,Hell the Giants can’t find anybody significant to close, Tampa can use 7!!
Tampa just swept the Yanks to move into 1st place over the Yanks, good for them, always an underrated team yet they continue to win year in year out..
Ouch 🤕 Phillies pitcher Alvarez took a line drive off his nuts with no cup on?
Crazy why a pitcher who are the closest to hitters, would not want want to protect the family jewels!
Brought the cart out and he was writhing in pain!
Catchers are the only ones who wear cups. Football players for the most part don’t. Which is crazy, bt who can forget Vernon (VD) Davis getting tackled by the dick a few years back?
Snarkk’s 10:13 does raise interesting point. what changed Z’s mind about Bart’s “development” that seemed to be lacking?
mm Posey turning down $21 mil for next year seems like longshot. Family gets settled in everyone safe and healthy baseball returns to normalcy in Spring…he was gonna be go to C for Kap this year, like other vets he continues to run out there. we’ll see
i said 27% chance. That is, by definition, a longshot
what’s the difference between a good chance and a long shot? 50% + 1 v 25%?
Need SanDog to set the O/U on the number of nannies the Poseys will employ so that Buster can return next season with a clear head…
The sad fall of Christian Arroyo…
Released by Cleveland earlier in the month,
Picked up by Boston, gets called up to the roster for 1 game
and now they just DFA him!!
Ahh Christian it’s time to realize your just another Gary Brown and it’s time to hang up the cleats..
Too bad, unfortunate for the kid…
Yeah agree Willied no way does Posey walk away from 21 mil with all the mouths he needs to feed now!
And yes by the time next ST roles around, the babies are less dependent on him( hell im sure his wife could hire a nanny to help out) and taking this year off should do wonders on his body.I could see him coming back and raking.Plus the addition of Bart will make it easier on him as well, and if DH sticks around( I’m still against it) that will keep him even fresher..
How much do you figure he walked away from this year? 7-8 mil? What % of salary did these guys end up getting?
I still wish the owners would have broken that union like a graham cracker!
yes would have been $7-8 iirc. Next year is whole different scenario, hopefully. Tromp/Heinie can play in Sac.
Way to go, Mets.
“Heard rumors that the Central Valley and its outliers have been a bit steamy of late.”
You heard correctly! Plus smoke and ash from the various California fires going has turned the sky apocalyptic.
Joey Bart – Come on Down…
1. Austin Slater (R) DH
2. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
3. Wilmer Flores (R) 2B
4. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
5. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
6. Joey Bart (R) C
7. Darin Ruf (R) LF
8. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
9. Mauricio Dubon (R) CF
P Kevin Gausman (R)
Batting Bart 6th,eh? That 24 hours or so must have worked wonders for his development.
“Come on up” might be more appropriate (as in called up).
Especially if Sacramento is south of SF.
I don’t know if it is.
I’m still digesting yesterday’s revelation that Oakland is east of San Francisco…
It’s north.
well, northeast.
and I think, Oakland is to SF as Manhattan is to Newark. In every way.
Everything is east of San Francisco.
Heinie is the short man out at C. Giants active now list Bart and Chadwick as the Cs.
Hard to imagine Buster saying no to $21 mill. Esp if he’s watching Belt now. If Bart shows anything, Posey is likely going to 1st.
Yeah it’s just the same with Belt and his 17mil next year.
38 million dollars for are platoon first basemen wow!
I still see Posey catching a lot too, he loves it and still one of the best calling games/framing pitches/gunning out runners! It’s going to be real exciting to see Bart and Posey together next year
Harold Reynolds on Bart which made him say how special this kid is, asked him about calling his own games in college which is quite impressive. Bart told him I just stopped looking at the coach in the dugout and I guess he got the message that I was calling a good game and just let me do my thing.
Curious if the Giants will let him call his own games? Not at 1st probably but after getting comfortable behind there. maybe so..
Yeah we both nailed that call on the catchers Chi..
It made sense Heiney was probably out of magic tricks to share with the team.
His bat obviously wasn’t to magical to keep him around..
Bart 6th in the LU, a good call, let’s get ready to rock the Angels in the kids debut!!
Angels scratched their rotation starter Heaney tonight and are going with bullpen string of guys, apparently. The disneyland dogs are off to their worst season start in franchise history, someone said.
speaking of SoCal, air quality in Campbell said 68 so I just went shopping and over to ATM. Coming home I’m behind a Ford Fiesta with dealer plates that said Long Beach on top, “Worthington” on bottom.
? Is that Cal Worthington’s great grandkids?
And my dog Spot.
Hah! Which usually turned out to be a lion.
For you SoCal Flappers, is he related to Cal ? ,,,
Due to COVID, Mets have announced that Jay Hook will come out of retirement to start Saturday vs. Yanks.
Phil Regan has also been reactivated to shore up the bullpen…
I’m so excited for these Bart at bats tonight. What an incredible out of the blue treat for this Thursday evening.
It would be so Giants if Bart got called for a catcher’s interference or even funnier, a catcher’s balk…
famous #21 Giants I can think of…obviously Kent and….Candy? Anyone else?
Glass
i don’t remember him, Deion or even Vogt last season
I will be very surprised if Buster is not back next year, and that he spends a fair amount of time behind the dish.
Baggs just read my mine and answered all my questions
Just checked the list.
Bowker & Gillaspie!
Bowker? Oh baby he’s home free.
Bart rocking #77…
SDNY today indicted Bannon for two felony fraud counts in ripping off the $25 million crowd funded private “wall” effort. He said he was managing it for free, but used dummy corps and vendor invoicings to pocket $1million+. Three other grifters indicted, too, for looting the fund. Donnie Jr. promoted it. The piece of wall they built is already crumbling. They arrested Bannon on a Chinese billionaire’s yacht off the New England coast. Somebody already posted his $5 million bail, and he’s out. You can’t make this S up. The cultists just get screwed, and keep coming back for more. Hey Fuck You — time’s a waistin’ — hurry up and get your damn contribution into the president for the 600% match ! …
I love that it was a Chinese billionaire’s yacht
Bannon was arrested by US Postal enforcement officers, I read
Using USPS LE to arrest — due to mail fraud beef jurisdiction, or keep the thing out of Fed marshall’s office and away from a block by Barr?…
I think the gofundme fraud via internet fell under the wire fraud jxn — a Coast Guard cutter and a bunch of Newmans in SWAT gear. (Mr. Bannon, put your hands behind your back. Oh, shit. Anyone have one of those handcuff extension things? Maybe just an extra set.)
So that’s why the mail is slow.
They’re turning the mail sorters into sworn officers to arrest all of Drumpf’s minions…
Check out who’s on the advisory board of Bannon’s scam, six rows down:
https://archive.vn/W8B9T
lol, Shithead. Of course. Man, all those fuckers just look like grifters. Honestly, if people are dumb enough to give them money for this I don’t really have a problem with them keeping it. Fuck stupid people they are all doing it to themselves right now. Everywhere.
The “board” is a rogues gallery. Eric Prince? That’s imbecile Sec. of Educ. Betsy Davos’ brother and former Blackwater dude. Sure, I’ll give my money to those guys. What could go wrong? They used Kolfage, a triple amputee from Iraq war, as a front man to curry sympathy and as a stamp of integrity. He was charged with fraud, too, using the stolen money for “lavish” expenses.
Shilling seems to get himself in a lot of financial trouble since baseball. Guy is a aszhat.
He hasn’t been indicted. Yet…
And wasn’t the sherif on row five recently charged in a sex scandal?
headline in the New Yorker today: Trump fails cognitive test, unable to remember Bannon
I don’t know what you guys are talking about, but Canada’s never looked better…
I’m sure Barr had no idea this was coming when he suddenly pulled Bermann out of SDNY two months ago and tried to stick a Jersey yes-man replacement in there as US Attorney…
Barr’s headed for some deep trouble, in the long term.
who the fuck is Ethan Katz and what is he doing as pitching coach?
WIth a team ERA of 5.46, apparently not much.
Sounds like an actor in one of those cheesy romance-with-Paris-and-its-cafes-accordion-music-as-the-backdrop movies…
They give Kent’s 21 to Ethan fuckin’ Katz?
What’s Ms. Nakken wearing, 44?
Did not see the change of number to 21 for Bart. Nice.
Joe McCarthy DFA’d to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Joey Bart.
Next, the ZMan will pick up Roy Cohn, journeyman Pen arm and lawyer…
Flea Bailey, closer.
Pac 12 announces Merton Hanks will be associate commish for football.
fun fact: Played softball vs. him at Washington park in sunnyvale for LL benefit game 90s
Mush ball no sliding Hanks and a few others vs. coaches/parents. He got a single and though he wasn’t going full speed wow got down the line in no time
Niners had big D line guy Ted Washington (I think) who was southpaw and had to borrow my glove…which looked a little different after I got it back from him every inning
Funky chicken man. He of the neck-breaking interception dance.
I think at the moment, the entire NL West is in the playoffs except us…
True story…
Programming Note:
NBA lottery on ESPN now…
I predict Dubs will get a pick no lower than 5th…
Steph sighting! thx Loo
Warriors have shot at first pick, no worse than 4th.
Rox lost today to Stros though, 3 in a row i think. their good young guy G Marquez gave up 10 hits and 10 earned in 5 today, in Nepal. They probably sink to bottom with giants.
Dubs pick up the #2 pick !…
Fire evacuations are in force all the way down the Santa Cruz mountains to Davenport, which is on the cliffs above the ocean.
good thing we have Heiny and Tromp fiddling around all season
Dream debut.
Bart catches a win, smashes a dinger, and never looks back for the next 12 years in a Giants uni….
how bout a back to back Bart/Ruf dong? I’m not calling it I’m not feeling it but it would be so rad……
i have several friends in the Santa Cruz area and surrounding (Boulder Creek, Felton and Pescadero) who have had to evac. Talked to a buddy today who is living in a trailer outside his inlaws house in San Jose. Said he thinks his house is gone. This is so sad.
Sure is.
Didn’t Twin’s house burn a few years ago?
Guy couldn’t catch a break…
it did.
“I’m still digesting yesterday’s revelation that Oakland is east of San Francisco…”
I won’t even say what geographic misconceptions I’ve had about the New York City area over the years. Every time I read a novel or history book set in New York City I still get an atlas out.
The way that Yankee Stadium and the Polo Grounds were so close to each other was surprising to me.
Where I thought Brooklyn was is pretty funny.
You gotta visit, Zum.
If nothing else, I’ll show you Coney Island…
Yes! I’ve never been in that part of the U.S.
100% agreed. It doesn’t have to be boring every single day dawgs. We’re allowed to have some hope and excitement every now and again
70s football was just so rad
look at those 2 glorious bastards!!!!!!!!!
Those Chargers unis esp the helmets are the BEST!!!
great pic great unis. Loved Charley Taylor ASU guy I believe
Bob Howard, man poor Chargers had some bad luck with DBs
‘Skins were my most hated team in the 70s.
72-49 ring a bell?
Nah, you’re too young…
I don’t like how Bart drops the target so soon. Not as bad as Tromp, but WTF are they teaching these guys?
What good is setting up a target if it’s gone by the time the pitcher needs to see it?
Sometimes, there’s no target at all…
If we have baseball next year, we need to get Loo out here.
Slater!!! Raking
Wilmer!!!!! With fans I mean.
We’d get along swell, Chuck!
No disrespect to the 2010 and 2012 teams, but this squad seems to hit and score better. Not near as good on defense. Still, this squad with the 2010 and 2012 kick ass pitching, would have gotten to the post-season, IMO. 2014 too, I suppose. Looking back, I don’t know how the 2014 team took it all. Smoke and mirrors. And, Bum…
Yeah the beauty of Posey is he first looks at the hitter seeing if he’s picking up a sign, but he waits till the last second, and then his glove is always in text book form, never moves it, big easy glove for the pitcher to throw too! To me he’s the best pitch framer in baseball!!
6 bombs for Wilmet!
Mr. Wilmet!
BOOM! Wilmer!
