I didn’t expect to wake up this morning to Stix quoting Tupac lines:

WordPress has completely changed their format for writing and uploading threads. As it is with anything new these days, it’s unnecessary and worse than the old way.

So this thread will be short and sweet and hopefully this loads properly.

Flav: You mean Tupac made the same identical statement? Not improbable, but an interesting coinkydink.

K/K were talking about HOF guys. Last one who got in to play for Giants–Randy Johnson?

I’m pretty sure John Kruk would say Johnson is a HOFer.

I still think Kent and Vizquel both should be in the hall of farce, but doesn’t look likely for either.

  3. chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on August 20, 2020 at 8:46 am

Nice W yesterday. Another error-less game (our boys have only committed two in the last week). That is an improvement. Will be interesting over the next week or so to see how the Bore Core do. Craw with another 2B yesterday, and Longo with a couple of hits. Pence 0-4…just cut ties, already.

The more I see Slater the more I like him. He should be in the line-up every day, with an occasional day off. If Farhan gets active in trading some pieces for youngsters, I think Slater should stay and be a part of the rebuild (Yaz, too).

Will be interesting to see if they deal Johnny Shimmy or Solano before the deadline. Those two seem the most likely, IMO. Question is, will other teams be willing to deal a decent prospect for a piece like Shimmy or Solano in this bizarre and shortened season.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on August 20, 2020 at 10:13 am

Slater’s elbow’s still sore, I think. If he could stay healthy (doesn’t that sound strange right now), he’d be just fine in the OF and in the LU next to Yaz.

  4. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on August 20, 2020 at 9:45 am

Yeah, the whole prospect thing is pretty fucked up with prolly 80% of them not paying organized baseball now. So, do you evaluate based on last year? Scrimmages?

It would be tough to give up a front-line pitcher for someone you can’t see play.

Jeeze. Alluded to it last night in the re-cap. Timing couldn’t be better so far as team and fan morale go. If he bats 9th for starters it might give us a stinger in the tail–kinduva scorpion. We can maybe expect a BA barely surpassing our current pair, but when he hits it is with authority. He will have caught some of the younger pitchers, so a bit of rapport there. Calling a good game and being stout defensively should also help. Don’t expect him to make us contenders THIS year.

With the 2-game micro-streak and the addition of Bart this team could be fun again.

He’s learned and improved so much while in Sac, facing all that stiff competition.
We’ll see soon enough whether the fears of him being not ready are realized. I say, so what if they are?
With no minor leagues, he can learn up here…

Even with not seeing the players play this season, teams all know the capabilities of the player they seek. And with 16 teams making the playoffs (Playoffs don’t say that word Playoffs?) a lot of teams feeling there in it will likely deal, which can only help the Giants unload some more deadweight.

I’ve noticed more than ever that the same commercials are running over and over during Giant telecasts.
Doesn’t this mean that fewer sponsors are buying ad time?
Could part of the reason for bringing up Bart be to boost ratings?

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on August 20, 2020 at 10:52 am

there’s one commercial, for some internet company I think, that starts with two chiming notes, descending. Always reminds me of the start of Rollercoaster, by Little Walter, though the tones in Mr. Jacobs’s masterpiece are of course bluesier. That commercial runs all the damn time on every channel I turn to.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on August 20, 2020 at 10:56 am

Kinda funny that on all those CarShield commercials promoted by Berman is the disclaimer with last sentence “coverage not available in California.”

    • Carstie Clausen's avatar Carstie Clausen said, on August 20, 2020 at 12:46 pm

The BART system would be a logical targeted sponsor–perhaps after Joey’s third dinger. He’d be a natural for the kinda role a good adman could concoct.

I would like to think Zman after seeing Casey Mize get called up yesterday and pitched well, and that Bart being the last of the top 4 not to be in the Show helped in the decision finally to call him up.Plus the lack of production at catcher and their atrocious defense didn’t hurt in doing this move finally..

Man I am jacked up to see Bart in the LU tonight!
I’m guessing they will bat him 7th?to get his feet wet, but if he gets the Bart train rolling he will move up in the LU soon! I can see a pro like Longoria taking him under his wings for added advice..

One of the worst trends in commercials is everybody’s trying to be funny now. Insurance companies, of all things, are using humor. The soulless money-grubbing insurance companies are trying to warm our hearts and tickle our funny-bones with their TV commercials. Geico probably started the trend. Those Geico commercials are funny, but our insurance system is ridiculously convoluted and messed up in the U.S. There’s really nothing funny about it.

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on August 20, 2020 at 11:17 am

Yank-me’s down 8-5 in the top of the 8th with Tampa Bay at bat. Their starter, some guy named Paxton, didn’t quite get lit up, but was not too hot either. The Rays are giving them the jitters by clipping them in NYC. They get a bit more nervous about their rotation and Z’s phone could start ringing awful soon. He should hardball them all the way to the bank.

  30. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on August 20, 2020 at 1:13 pm

Don’t need 3 catchers, so between 2 evils on picking Tromp ove Heiney!
Much better power, 2 HR’s 6 RBI’s compared to Heiney’s No power 1 RBI and 3 catchers interference calls compared to Tromp’s one.

Both aren’t hitting a lick, but Tromp has more upside.Should be a no brainer Tromp gets the backup role.

One manager I would love to have but won’t happen is Tampa Bay’s Kevin Cash.
This guy really knows how to manage. He finds relievers off the scrap pile and turns them all into effective pitchers, and really no set roles how he uses them.
They have an incredible 7 saves from 7 different pitches, so closer? Not for this team,Hell the Giants can’t find anybody significant to close, Tampa can use 7!!

Tampa just swept the Yanks to move into 1st place over the Yanks, good for them, always an underrated team yet they continue to win year in year out..

I still see Posey catching a lot too, he loves it and still one of the best calling games/framing pitches/gunning out runners! It’s going to be real exciting to see Bart and Posey together next year

Harold Reynolds on Bart which made him say how special this kid is, asked him about calling his own games in college which is quite impressive. Bart told him I just stopped looking at the coach in the dugout and I guess he got the message that I was calling a good game and just let me do my thing.

Curious if the Giants will let him call his own games? Not at 1st probably but after getting comfortable behind there. maybe so..

SDNY today indicted Bannon for two felony fraud counts in ripping off the $25 million crowd funded private “wall” effort. He said he was managing it for free, but used dummy corps and vendor invoicings to pocket $1million+. Three other grifters indicted, too, for looting the fund. Donnie Jr. promoted it. The piece of wall they built is already crumbling. They arrested Bannon on a Chinese billionaire’s yacht off the New England coast. Somebody already posted his $5 million bail, and he’s out. You can’t make this S up. The cultists just get screwed, and keep coming back for more. Hey Fuck You — time’s a waistin’ — hurry up and get your damn contribution into the president for the 600% match ! …

I think the gofundme fraud via internet fell under the wire fraud jxn — a Coast Guard cutter and a bunch of Newmans in SWAT gear. (Mr. Bannon, put your hands behind your back. Oh, shit. Anyone have one of those handcuff extension things? Maybe just an extra set.)
