A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

NFL!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on November 29, 2020

Today has got a fair amount on intrigue to it. Well, the Denver game does anyway. We thought Taysom Hill was a stretch last week. Now we got some wide receiver snatched off the practice squad starting under center for the Broncos.

It would be SO AWESOME if the Niners played a couple of games at Kezar. Right?

kezar (only there once to see Shrine Game)…one of the features old guys used to talk about was how close fans were to where players had to come onto and leave the field to get to locker rooms…and abuse they used to hear from disgruntled fanbase.

The County order barring practices and games also applies to local b-ball teams. Cards are to host 4 games, and the women too. Kicker here is that women’s coach VanDerveer is 4 Ws away from taking over top career spot from the late Pat Summit of Tennessee.

Abuse of course not limited just to verbal variety.

Posted pics on the last thread.

At some point they built a chain-link fence around the field to keep fans from rushing the field. They also built chain-link tunnels to the locker rooms to keep the flying bottles from hitting the players.

John Brodie famously said he never took his helmet off till he got into the locker room.

Jose St. football has both of final 2 league games at home too. currently tied for first at 4-0 with Boise, as Hawaii, their next opponent, beat previously unbeaten Nevada last night. Nevada is scheduled for final home game, and team with best highest winning pct. in league would also get to host title game vs. 2nd place team.

County restrictions (I believe) include mandatory 14 day quarantines for any team traveling more than 150 miles to play locally, as of Monday. Because Niners are coming back from LA tonite, they’d be exempt.

  4. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on November 29, 2020 at 8:53 am

Brodie was smart he even told the rookies never take your helmet off , the supposed fans hurl beer bottles at you and that’s even when we first come out of the tunnel!!!

The best thing about the Broncos starting a guy Hinton? who last threw a football at Vanderbilt 2 years ago is that I picked up New Orleans Saints Defense in Fantasy his week🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 should get a lot of interceptions & fumbles in this crazy game!

Since I don’t have any money teams. I am not going to reset my teams. Even if one or two don’t show I hope the others make up for it. Tired of dumping players for a 1 week replace.

It always amazed me how many fans had flasks at Kezar. The whole place was on some serious alcohol.
willedav- i liked going to the shriners game too. By the time they played it the field was usually a mess. Made for some fun football.

Darth Vader actor David Prowse is dead at 85…

Speaking of a wiped out Kezar field I went there in 1973 to see Led Zeppelin with the Tubes first show it was one helluva great show!

One of my first concerts was SNACK sunday at Kezar in 1975. Brodie showed up for that, as well as Jerry Garcia, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Graham Central Station, and a bunch of other bands. being 14 I didn’t really know the importance of that until later. Both the Dead and Dylan were on breaks from touring around that time and there was talk the Dead wouldn’t tour any more.

Interested to see what the Raiders do. Coming off an emotional loss to a hated division rival, they have a fairly easy opponent at home in the Atlanta Falcons. These are the types of games they usually blow chunks and lose.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on November 29, 2020 at 10:35 am

falcons D (!) all over them so far, stopped first drive on 4th an 1, strip sack of Carr on second, force punt on third. Problem is ATL has 1 first down in 3 possessions. Ryan under lot of heat, no running game either.

I lived at Carl and Willard, a couple blocks up from Kezar for years (80s). Went to that final weekend before the wrecking ball took the old stadium down. I ended up with a tee shirt from that day but my buddy yanked up some of a wood bench seat. He died last year and I don’t know what happened to that old piece of wood, someone probably just tossed it out.
Wasn’t much parking back when I lived there on any given day, can’t even imagine the neighborhood parking with a Niner game going on.

Lived at Cole and Waller for about 8 months in the late 80s as well. Right next to some comedy club where I saw (waaaay before this) the voice of Sponge Bob, Tom Kenny. Funny guy. His gig was all about wanting to be a cartoon character.

The Other Cafe? I lived up at Carl and Grattan for a year or so. Did you ever go to the liquor store called Val de Cole, at Carl and Cole? Bruce there was always pretty awesome to me.

  9. willedav's avatar willedav said, on November 29, 2020 at 11:27 am

whoa TD Falcons, as Ryan gets planted but completes pass. 13-3 ATL.

  10. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on November 29, 2020 at 11:31 am

Leave it to the Raiders to allow that freaking drive to continue after a questionable roughing the field goal kicker!
And what’s the Deal with that kicker Koo wearing hot pants?Cant believe the NFL allows that..

  11. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on November 29, 2020 at 11:37 am

Yeah, Other Cafe? That sounds right. There were a ton of comedy clubs back then. Saw Robin Williams once at the Holy City zoo when I got back from Colo around 87. The weirdest venue in SF. From what I remember, it was about 10′ wide and 175′ long.

As far as liquor stores go, probably. Don’t recall Bruce.

Tha Raiders have roughed the kicker on a missed FG. Got a dumb illegal use of hands on an interception, and have stupided their way to a 13-3 deficit.

    • Locojuan's avatar Bozo said, on November 29, 2020 at 1:18 pm

The NFL really needs to look at those fake turf fields. Too many outdoor stadiums (like 6) have that shit, and it should be outlawed. Look at all the non-contact lower leg injuries caused by those fields this year that just don’t have any give. 2 INDOOR stadiums (AZ and LV) have grass fields for fuck’s sake.

  51. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on November 29, 2020 at 5:11 pm

In the raider game, someone stopped and to plant, and his knee just twisted sideways and gave way as his foot stuck on the turf. Much like Bosa’s injury that was not really doe to contact.
