Las Oakland Joses?
Have the A’s moved to Las Vegas yet? What a pathetic franchise. Dave Kaval is a clown and the latest in a long line of clowns who won’t be able to get a stadium deal done. I will say this, the A’s have some of the best renderings for fantasy stadiums I’ve ever seen. Every single one of them is breathtaking work of art.
Spanking the A’s is always nice. Let’s do it again…..
I always love it when the Giants stomp the A’s but I also used to love going to the coliseum and watching them play. For years they have played some really good baseball.
They have outperformed their putrid stadium and tight wad ownership, for sure
Two years ago I sat next to the a’s dugout, one of the best seats in that dump. Matt Williams coached 3B right in front of us. Petit gave up a sharp single to Pence. Semien lobbed a ball to the kid sitting next to me. But the steel floor by my right foot was perforated by rust, I could see ground several feet below, and the seat itself was aimed toward CF. Oakland deserves better but it just ain’t gonna happen. VegA’s, as my son says.
Ever since the nice Dubon quote about there not being any a-holes in Giants clubhouse, I’ve wondered if he really belongs in it. Answer is no. Let him go to Sac, play every day and get into rhythm and improve hitting fielding and baserunning.
Might as well give Thairo Estrada more than an inning to show what he can do. He’s hitting well at AAA, has some MLB experience and at least in IF can help give Flores and Solano some rest, Craw too.
I’d love to see what Estrada can do
Speaking of architectural renderings:
When I graduated high school, I was a lost soul about what to do regarding my future. I just knew I wanted to try to play college basketball. My best chance for making a team was a junior college, so I enrolled in one. OK, what classes to take? Some general education classes, which are required, and I got the off-the -wall notion of trying to be an architecture major because…..I now have no idea why. Because the father on the The Brady Bunch was an architect and his job seemed pretty cool? I don’t remember why, but I enrolled in a couple of architecture classes. One of the classes was an engineering class, and it was hard, and I didn’t enjoy it, and my final grade was not great. The other class was an architectural rendering class, doing artwork and models of imaginary future buildings. I wasn’t very good at it, but it was so much fun. I really liked that class. And now whenever I see architectural renderings they bring back good memories of that class.
But, alas, I could tell the other students were architect material, and I wasn’t, so I just kind of plugged away at general ed classes that I mostly wasn’t too interested in. I did make the basketball team my first year, and had a blast being on the team. But I was the last guy on the bench and only got a couple of minutes at the end if it was a blow-out. That season was a lot of fun, though. But I didn’t go out for the team the next year. And that next year, on a lark, I took a History of Britain class that was so enjoyable that it turned me into a History major. That major completely captured my interest and I stayed with it.
BF’s reference to architectural renderings brought back some memories. 🙂
Dabbled in architecture as well when I took a drafting class in HS. Got a 2 year degree (pre-CAD) in it at SMIT (Harvard on the Hill) and was poised to go to SD State. Decided to take a job offer instead, and never went back.
I took a drafting class in high school, too. I liked the class. I even later had a part-time job doing some very simple street drawings for a local cable TV company while I was going to the JC. A cool part-time job. But then later the boss fired me and gave the job to his daughter because his daughter needed a job. What a rip.
Because of that I ended up taking a very early morning job doing janitor work at a Sears. The work sucked, but I had some cool folks to work with. In those days, Sears paid weekly, and every Friday after getting paid, we would meet up at a local pizza parlor that did a lunchtime all-you-can-eat buffet. We would DEVOUR that place. Oh man, that place made no profit off of us.
HS drafting was the best. I loved drawing things in perspective and exploded views of machinery. I probably still have my t square and compass set (lead and ink) somewhere. That was the only good hour of class. Totally free to do your own work on your own.
Architecture is a high art. A very worthy aspiration.
I was excited to take a cooking class in high school just to meet more babes!
Also learned how to slice a potato thin to make potato chips…
One of the most worthwhile classes I took in high school was typing. Learning to type using all of my fingers turned out to be very useful in life. The teacher was one of the football coaches, which was kind of interesting. He did a good job teaching the class. He was a task-master who expected good focus and discipline.
My typing teacher was a beautiful woman who drove a Morgan. Really. Very worthwhile class.
Sorry I was such an a hole yesterday.
Thanks, Xoot.
I had my a hole moments, too. Sorry about that.
Agree, without question the best class I took in high school.
I took a typing class for summer school, 3 hours of aaa, sss, ddd, etc, but it besides my accounting class, the typing class gave me a useful tool in my life.
My Sears job had a baseball connection. One of the guys who worked there was a huge baseball fan, and he organized several trips to see Giants and A’s games. This guy loved to talk baseball. We all would just talk baseball the entire time when we rode in his car.
Cueto far exceeded my expectations last night. Hope Wood will now. Any word on Buster?
Speaking of architecture, you see that the Fla condos collapsed because the swimming pool and it’s nearby planters were not designed to drain, so that over the decades in that tropical weather water constantly intruded into the concrete foundation and pillars nearby? Few of the high arts kill people.
Wow- I hadn’t seen that. Incredibly tragic mistake.
An inspector flagged the problem three years ago.
The mayor of SF made the new development next to the ballpark sound great. I hope it all works out well. I was sorry to see those ballpark parking lots disappear. But maybe other options will work out well.
Coming from the Central Valley, we usually park at the Dublin BART station, anyway, and ride BART into SF’s Embarcadero station, and then decline on taking the Muni train and, instead, take the nice long walk next to the Bay to the ballpark.
Literally every time the BART stops at the Fruitvale station I think about Oscar Grant.
When I’m riding the BART.
I’m going to Mets-Phils today, took a ferry from Jersey into NYC, great way to get here. Mets got deGrom going today, should be lively crowd. Mets don’t hit much, so also likely a ton of Ks today.
In the ballpark; the best way to see baseball!
TV does the best it can. It’s a hard sport to try to fit onto a TV screen.
Basketball and football have an advantage of fitting better on a TV screen; but the live experience of those two sports isn’t as good as baseball. NFL football especially underwhelms a bit in person, unless you have great seats.
No help from the Cubs yesterday. They’re the Fox game today.
I recently read a review of a new book called “Noise” that looks like it could be interesting. The “noise” it’s talking about is informational, environmental, and psychological variables that cause issues with decision-making in all jobs and professions. Reminds me a little of Nate Silver’s book “The Signal and the Noise.” In sports, of course, managers and head coach’s have to make lots of in-game decisions, filtering through not just informational “noise,” but actual literal noise of crowds in the ballparks, arenas, and stadiums, and blaring music.
“coaches,” I meant.
According the review, the book offers ideas on improved decision-making.
Judges who change after lunch is one example apparently. Happened to me, in Modesto. Tough son of a bitch forced witnesses to answer hard questions in the morning and then flaccid let told me to just move on after the long noon recess. I eventually saw the same pattern in other trials, hearings and depositions. I found that a light lunch of seared tuna and green salad left me clear and bright, ready to take advantage of the grumpy, deeply digesting sloths.
flaccidly
Yeah, the review mentions several interesting examples of that kind of thing in the book. It’s disturbing to think of a judge being different in his job, depending on the time of day, or what the temperature is outside; or a doctor, or a police officer, or whoever else.
And the book apparently has data to back up the examples.
good surgeons operate at daybreak, unless there’s an emergency later. iirc. They say it’s because our stomachs are empty then, but I bet that’s only half the story.
I heard a baseball broadcaster say that nowadays the players have too much information, which seems like a wrong thing to say, IMO. Generally people want as much information as possible about situations of great concern to them. The challenge is in learning to narrow the information to what is important and useful. Some of that’s on the players to get good at dealing with lots of information, and identifying what can help them improve.
I’m a big proponent of “ignorance is bliss”.
So much I’d rather not know…
The A’s, Raiders and the City of Oakland, 3 of the most stupid organizations I know, before they moved to LV, the Raiders and the A’s were the only professional sports teams to still share a stadium. How pathetic is that.
The Jets and Giants do, but I know you mean different sports…
The raiders made a great move by going to Vegas. That stadium will be packed constantly. Look how it worked out for the Knights, they’re the hottest ticket in town. Davis is going to make so much money on this move
I wonder if that statuesque woman who used to stroll around Raider tailgates nude but for a very thin silver chain mail gown has a place in Vegas? Ah hell, what’s wrong with me. She probably uses a black and silver walker to get to her couch these days. Things have changed.
Rams and Chargers share SoFi stadium as well..
Yeah, and we shared AZ’s stadium last year for a bit. That really must have been weird since both teams really dislike the other.
1. LaMonte Wade Jr (L) 1B
2. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF

5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Donovan Solano (R) 2B
7. Steven Duggar (L) CF

I have a gut feeling that Duane Kuiper is going to make his first appearance since his ongoing chemo treatments tomorrow.
A bright sunny afternoon start, a close to a sold out crowd, his brother Glen Kuiper there as the A’s announcer, and his moment to reunite with his buddy Mike Krukow,Jon Miller, and Flemm, with the standing ovation 👏 crowd makes the timing perfect..
If memory serves, the Giants had the best record in MLB at the All-Star break in 2016. If memory further serves, SFG from that point on had the WORST record in baseball, but stumbled into the postseason, thanks to the cushion they had built. I even recall a stat noting that that worstness extended well into the next year, maybe more. So, I have a simmering undercurrent of dread. But I suppress it. I’m old enough to know I would be foolish not to enjoy the ride while it lasts (#age-metaphor). Besides, those Three Rings are/were so damn unfathomable, I still can’t wrap my head around them. They are beyond belief.
2014 was similar, although the nosedive began earlier, in June, that year. And they stumbled into the PS with one good starting pitcher and one good OF. So . . . .
Pawlie is right—July 10 2016 Giants beat AZ (4th W in a row) in last game before AS break to up record to 57-33.
Then went to SD and Fenway, lost 6 in a row and 11 of 13..
The Duffy trade happened at some point, too, and launched the Duffy trade debate amongst fans.
Like a true nature child
We were born born to be wild
We can play so good
Then end up in the hood
Born to be wild
Born to be wild
seems like every time I watch the bums play someone else our old friend Spicoli Bickford pitches a good inning for them
I’m dealing with WiFi issues tonight and was forced to boot up on the a’s CNBC feed just in time to hear the Oakland pregame guy: “So they go up again against the Giants, who have the best record in baseball. [upchuck sound effects] I can’t believe I had to say that. Anyway . . . . “.
Fucking a’s fans. The Giants are always gracious toward the a’s. Jon Miller, who spent some of his early years announcing for them, always reports their scores and standing with respect. True, that one season when the teams tried to merge the announcing teams didn’t go so well as Fosse lost his temper over Krukow’s ribbing, but generally the Giants organization has been friendly, magnanimous. And the a’s fans and lackeys hate the Giants even more for that.
Speaking of lackeys it’s Dallas Braden! That freakin guy still trying to hold on to his one shining moment in the bigs, his perfect game.Yet he only won 26 games and loss 36, you think he was Steve Carlton .
He’s just so annoying,I want to throw up 🤮 every time I see his ugly face and that gnarly beard ..
I hadn’t really thought of that before: that basketball and football are more suited to TV (visually) because of the rectangular shape of both the fields/courts and the TV. Maybe if baseball wants to generate more excitement among home viewership, they should invent a baseball TV, with the screen shaped like the field. In 3-D. I’d have to convert my laptop screen, I guess…….
The homeplate ump is lousy, of course. Hey, every ump has their own strike zone. Just the way the rule book intended!
Ah the joy of NL baseball. 😎
Casali can’t even make contact there with 1 out and bags loaded shows how his bad hitting really hurts sometimes…
Best bet to score if Dickerson took off on the pitch in the dirt a 1/3 of the way up the first base line then leaving up to Casali&Wood..
Miller&Kruk did their best mock job on Wood sadly.
Knowing what was coming up behind him, perhaps the Grave Duggar should have expanded his strike zone instead of settling for the BB with 2 RISP…
GraveDuggar digging a shallow grave for himself after that boot..
“Tommy La Stella suffered a setback during his rehab assignment in jamming his right, throwing thumb and has a small fracture, Gabe Kapler said Saturday. The flexible infielder likely will not be ready when he’s eligible to return from the 60-day injured list, on July 2.
“He’s going to be in a splint for a week,” Kapler said before the second game of the Bay Bridge Series at Oracle Park. “Probably two weeks before he’s back and at full speed again.””
Had he just been talking with Affeldt ?…
If that wasn’t a no stickum WP, then I don’t know what is…
Gimme my stickum! Things are getting strange in the mound.
Well, on
Only 1 run scoring feels pretty remarkable.
Gets out of a sticky situation after he slipped into one..
Krukow: “The sausage race never ever fails to disappoint”
He was right!
And wtf is Kapler letting Wood to bat here??
Duggar is scoring position already??
Wade!
Lamonte Wade Jr says there’s a new sheriff in town!
I guess it really doesn’t matter what Kapler does, everything turns into gold.He has the Midas touch going..
How about a nice gapper for Wilmet here?
Petit and Romo could have been bullpen bore core.
Goddamn Garcia 2-out walk to Laureano.
I think both ZZs done bottomed out now. That was pretty close to an oppo splash hr.
Chapman made a mockery of the wind.
ZZTopples
Romo vs Casali. My lard that’s not fair.
Damn, Ruf overmatched there.
Wilmer! Who’d a guessed.
Barrels time!
Donnie Battles. Wow.
Great time to roll out the Barrel!!
We’re have a Barrel of fun!!
Too close to take – the single stupidest phrase in baseball.
Along with center cut, arm slot, playing with fire, etc
Well, it;’s true. It’s Belt’s downfall.
Is there a problem with protecting the plate?
When the umps are taken out of the equation, it’ll be moot.
Well, that’s not the point. Too close to take means don’t leave it up to the ump.Foul the close one off and live to see another pitch.
Something Belt is guilty of, and, as stupid banalities go, it is valid.
The number of times hitters benefit from not swinging at 2 strike pitches out of the strike zone > than hacking at them.
And you need to protect the plate with robo umps as well1
Ok, you just saw Duggar not swing at a pitch just off the plate and then hit a fastball down the middle. The Giants whole approach is based on this. It is simple logic and it works more often than it fails, even with imperfect umps.
Duggar sure turns out to be a shit disturber a lot..
Damn, came back again. Nice to have my wife back me up after a day of drinking and talking with old friends.
Caught the Chapman HR and the quick comeback.
Yaz FTW!!!
Loo’s favorite chart “The fly ball arrow’s^^Deviation” for jet stream effects at Oracle Park..
Wade shoulda moved.
Ah shit.
Fuck. Wotus was stupid. LFer was way in.
Damn. These are two very good teams. Hang on Giants.
It only took about 4 hours to play the 9 innings. 🙂
Yeah, this is not last night’s game.
Listening on radio (computer) .Fleming..”with Wades speed and 2 outs a hit to the outfield should do it.. “Lined in to center, kemp hits the cutoff man who fires home and wade is out at the plate”.. WTF?? Jt Snow against the marlins? I can’t ever recall an outfielder throwing to a cutoff man on a single. Ever. Did he fall? Forget how many outs and hesitate? Please explain?
The single was a line drive to left. Kemp was playing shallow in left field. Chapman was the cut-off guy with a strong arm.
Wade did everything OK. It’s more on Wotus for sending him.
LFer was way in.Quick throw to the SS and the relay. Wade was out by 15 feet. Wade had a shitty jump tho.
Fuck.
Smart play by Kemp hitting the cutoff man(Chapman) even in,his rag arm would not of thrown out Wade, Can’t blame Wotus to much considering who the outfielder was..
Well, when the runner is out that bad, it IS on Wotus.
Bunt goddamn it.
Kapler needs to play for1 in this situation
Dugggggggggggar!!!!!
My goodness, what a clutch hit by Duggar.
Duggarmania!
He ties it up!!
Duggar!
Well , Casali too
Ride Casali Ride!
What a great fucking win!
BALLGAME!!!!!!!! FUCKIN’ A!!! THIS TEAM IS ON FIR3E!!
Casali! Wow go figure as the flying Duggar comes around to score for the win!!!
DUGGAR WAS FLYING THE BASES WERE SMOLDERING!!!
