A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

1-1

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 6, 2022

Honestly, I’m thankful that they even got 1. I was preparing myself for the embarrassment of a four nuthin’ skunkin’. On the bright side, if Klay can be that awful and they can still win maybe they have a shot if he drags himself out of the gutter? Also if Game 1 Smart/Whoreford/White stay the 1 and done we know them to be…..maybe?

I dunno. Boston is younger and they do what we do as good or better than we do. With the series heading to Boston this could get ugly.

One of my circle of friends back in Bay Area is a notorious Cooler. The type who will send out a text when a Giants starter goes 7 or even 5 innings without giving up a a hit and he will draw attention to it and of course wham there goes the no hitter.

In the 2019 Dubs-Raptors series, he was raging why is KD not playing, wham Achilles. When Klay gets undercut in Game 6 and starts walking off the court, he raged Klay is got to get back in there. Wham torn ACL.

Headed into this series his first remark was “Oh Warriors have this, easy win!” I noted that the Celtics so much more physical and athletic yada yada and will be our toughest match up in any Finals. Wham we lose Game 1. So after last night he said again no problems Warriors will now easily win. So I called him out on his Cooler ways. Hopefully I counteracted his Cooler influence.

      I fucking hate coolers.

mlb.com has story “6 trade destinations for Wilson Contreras”, Giants being one along with Padres Yanks Mets Stros and Rays. He would be a rental; doubt Z/H go this route but will they stick with Casali/Bark all season?

  3. willedav said, on June 6, 2022 at 7:22 am

From May 22 story on MLBTR, Belt got cortisone shot in knee, went on 10 day IL, and “Both Belt and Giants manager Gabe Kapler feel that the 1b won’t miss much time, perhaps just the minimum 10 days.”

Last game he played was May18. With Dogs coming in for 3 this weekend, you know he wants to be in there. So wtf is up?

  4. unca_chuck said, on June 6, 2022 at 7:32 am

Hey at least they actually IRed Belt. Their usual strategy of “he’s day-to-day” for 3 weeks was pretty dumb.

  5. unca_chuck said, on June 6, 2022 at 7:49 am

What a weird game. The Dubs at one point had missed 7 of 10 layups in the first half. Klay was bricking. THe saving grace was all the Boston turnovers. If we keep that down, we should be in good shape.

    • willedav said, on June 6, 2022 at 8:06 am

yes. points off turnovers, and in paint, were good for GS. Physical game and I think that affected Celts role players that didn’t do much, as Flav said (and Green earlier predicted). Green though, has to be careful. He sets tone but lives on edge of being tossed.
Great to see GP2 out there. Looney too, outplaying Celts bigs. See if GS can replicate 3rd quarter ownage on road–has to be point of emphasis for Celts coaching staff.

WIlliams might be hurt at well. Got to take advantage of that.

According to Van Gundy, there’s no question he’s hurt. He also went down awkwardly last night when his own guy landed on his leg.

Celtics only won game1 allowing a bum like Horford to rise from his grave to score 26 points.Last night he had 2 points that’s a 24 point swing from winning are losing.Continue shutting his sorry ass down the Warriors will be fine.Any road game can get ugly, the Warriors showed that by getting blown out in Dallas by 50 plus? But they also did their job by winning the first game there , get a split like Boston did that’s all you want..

  8. unca_chuck said, on June 6, 2022 at 12:56 pm

Yeah. It was a difference of two Pooles. Starting the 4th in game 1 he committed 2 turnovers and missed 3 shots iirc. The 2:30 he was on the floor Boston erased the Warrior lead in a hurry.

Yesterday’s game saw Poole dishing and hitting shots, including the half court shot at the 3rd q buzzer. Big turnaround.

      Klay needs to show up.
His shooting has been horrendous the first two games. I assume he’s not dealing with injury.
Porter has been a more dependable shooter…

    • unca_chuck said, on June 6, 2022 at 4:02 pm

Don’t know what the deal is with Klay as he’s had really good agames in these playoffs. But not these last few. Just hoping against hope Horford doesn’t go off for over 20 again. That was insane.

The Braves now above 500. That wildcard spot is looking pretty tenuous, unless the defense gets better, Rodon and Webb start pitching like aces instead of being merely pretty good, and the bullpen sharpens up.

  10. willedav said, on June 6, 2022 at 5:52 pm

I think fans should look at this series as twilight before dawn of drastic change in guard rotation for Warriors that reduces Klay’s minutes. Curry can still operate steadily at elite rate, Klay no. Poole Payton and Moody are the future and it wouldn’t surprise me they start to get more run next season as Warriors continue to go smaller when Curry sits. Moody is a good 6-5 and should be capable defender (like Klay used to be) and plus 3 pt shooter who can profit given attention to guys like Curry Poole Wiggins..

  11. James said, on June 6, 2022 at 6:01 pm

I don’t have much of an intuition about how the finals are going to play out. Like a lot these series, it feels like the final result could easily be reversed if they played another one right afterwards. The 4th quarter Boston had shooting the ball in game 1 was pure chance.

i’m a proud *never had covider* but my main man at work who I’m with (in close quarters) 40 hours a week just tested +. So, if I’m gonna get it now’s the time I guess. But, I’m still testing neg and I feel fucking great.

  13. Flavor said, on June 6, 2022 at 6:09 pm

question for the Flapper crew: who HAS had covid? Loo with all that under ground subway travel you musta had this shit like 5 times right? lqtm

    • djloo27 said, on June 6, 2022 at 7:49 pm

Thought I had it about 5 different times but never did far as I know.
Only tested twice (negative) since it all began.
Got all my shots like a good dog…

      • djloo27 said, on June 6, 2022 at 8:24 pm

Nobody even mentions it here anymore.
It’s all about crime (guns) now…

Still haven’t had it, even though Mrs. James fell victim in January. We aren’t sleeping in separate beds yet. Maybe I’m one of the lucky ones. Hey, we haven’t had a big ass music video in a while …

  15. snarkk said, on June 6, 2022 at 7:33 pm

The younger snarkette in UCSB has just now had Covid the 2nd time. First time was in January, she tested + with no symptoms. Had her 1st booster in November 2021. Now, just got it again early last week, with + test and some minor symptoms still. Campus is back on mask mandate as of last Friday in May; it’s pretty rampant down there. We had visited her that weekend just prior to her + test after we left, but we were masked up the whole time while visiting, and had a meal with her outside. She self-tested negative the two days we saw her, then tested + two days after we left. We don’t seem to have gotten it. The entire town of Santa Barbara was overrun with tourists that Memorial Day weekend. I’d say about 1/4 max of the people walking around town and in bars/restaurants, were wearing masks. I’ll admit I felt very edgy about being there out and about…

I haven’t caught Covid so far, and feel very fortunate, given that the Calif. Central Valley has been one of the nation’s Covid hot-spots during the pandemic.
I’m one of the small percentage of people in my area still wearing a mask when I go to the grocery store and other public places, but I’m going to continue doing so.

On a related note, I’m a huge fan of singer/songwriter Eliza Gilkyson. She’s not famous, but she’s great.
    And she’s 71 years old.
She just emailed this out to fans on her email list:

    Dear Friends,
I have been hesitant to share this news because I don’t like being an alarmist and also because I had hoped I would be over it by now, but it appears I have developed Long Covid after an asymptomatic case last fall. It has taken months to ascertain by process of elimination that this is what’s going on. Because I have been vaxxed and boosted as recommended, my case is not as severe as many others, but it has definitely put me on the sidelines, and demands that I pay it full attention and do nothing to aggravate it. This is why you will see some cancellations on my upcoming tour dates, until mid August, and I apologize for making promises I couldn’t keep. As covid flares up again while the country is unmasked, I am on the “at risk’ side of things, so, unless I can drive to the shows, and be in a safe environment once I’m there, I will have to stay grounded. Fortunately for me I am “stuck” in a beautiful place here in Taos, even with the fires all around, and I am grateful for the care I get at home. I have every intention of making music again, but for now am not taking any chances.I will be performing some live streams, and am brainstorming with the team to figure out other alternate ways to make music and get it out there to you.
Stand by, and thank you for your ongoing support.
    Best,
    Eliza

I’m watching the MLB Network broadcast of the Padres/Mets games, where the ex-players chat during the game, and it’s alright. Although I eventually kind of tuned them out.
On a totally different topic, we don’t have the Showtime channel at our house, but Showtime is doing a free preview for a few months (they’re desperate for viewers because so many people are streaming now instead of using the pay-channels), and we’ve been able to see several episodes of the series “The First Lady,” which is about Michelle Obama, Betty Ford, and Eleanor Roosevelt. The series is very good, IMO. I’m totally drawn in. The acting performances are stellar, especially Michelle Pfeiffer as Betty Ford, in an achingly poignant performance that allows us to get to know Betty far more than we had known her before. Well, I didn’t know much about her, really. Viola Davis as Michelle O. and Gillian Anderson as Eleanor are both terrific as well. And all the other actors in the series are very good. The show’s episodes move back and forth in the timelines very smoothly, connecting things thematically, looking at the ways First Ladies try to influence their husbands, but also how the First Ladies have to deal with their own challenges and stresses.

I read a newspaper review of the series that shredded the series, and that just mystifies me. There’s been many times over the years that a professional reviewer has mystified me.

Only because I love it so much, I’ll tell it for the 10th time:
Some decades ago when you might refer to the newspaper for TV listings, the NY Post would list a very brief description of the program or movie underneath it.
      Best one ever:

      8:00 PM
      (11) Saturday Night Fever (Drama-Musical)
      John Travolta, Karen Lynn Gorney
Brooklyn dumbo excels on dance floor.

There was a Wizard of Oz one like that.

      8:00 PM – TCM

      — Transported to a surreal landscape, a young girl kills the first person she meets and then teams up with three strangers to kill again.
