Another AL Team
The White Sox are one of those low-key AL times I alway kinda liked growing up. Chet Lemon. Lamarr Hoyt. Great names. Didn’t they have Rusty Kuntz too?
Of course they inexplicably re-hired the terrible Tony LaRussa making them currently and completely hateable.
Anyway, Chicago is predictably playing underwhelming baseball with the usually drunken LaRussa at the helm. Countering that, we are playing terrible baseball.
No idea where this series goes…..
Warriors lost Gary Payton II to Portland, Unfortunate, probably my favorite guy. Hope they can hang onto Looney.
He was your FAVORITE player? Can’t fault him for scoring a deal elsewhere, this was his chance to get paid. How many G league guys who bounce through 10 teams get 28 mil? Happy for him. He’ll be replaced tho for cheaper
on GS (which I left off lol), yeah. Love the hustle and work ethic and improved shooting touch. Lot of highlights, including blocking Jokic couple times.
Moody steps up to play a lot, and for nearly nothing…
Age difference…
Early ChiSox for me were Floyd Robinson, Don Buford, young Tommy John, old Smoky Burgess, Pete Ward and Mr. Unassisted Triple Play, Ron Hansen…
Age difference: Ron Hansen is probably my favorite jockey of all time. Go Google his story if you want to read about a wild ride
Was he the one who was tossed off the San Mateo bridge? His legs were sticking out of the mud?
Kathy used to work at the Vans in Belmont in the early 80s (before we met) and has a few stories of mobbed up parties there that were out of control. Back when Bay Meadows was in full swing.
mm yeah classic home unis too. Nellie Fox and his chaw, Aparicio, Tommie Agee, Gary Peters and Joel Horlen. Good buddy of mine was big ChiSox fan in mid-late 60s HS days.
No Neck Williams!
Later they did have some bizzarro unis.
The shorts unis were just plain nuts. They had the big collars too I think.
It’s almost not believable…
Sure the Whitesox’s players forced to wear “Hot Pants “ we’re not thrilled.Along with a constant strawberry on they’re knees all season!
Yeah, the southsiders were a low-level team on my radar as well. Dick Allen, Kenny Henderson, Jim Kaat (cool name), but always loved Dick Allen. And the ever-lovable Bucky fucking Dent.
As far as GP II goes, hey, get your deal. Hate to see him go to a team in the west, but what can you do? Maybe we keep Porter now. I’m sure we figure out how to keep Looney.
mm hope they can keep both. Interesting that in era of iso offense and big men out at 3 pt line, defense and rebound guys like Payton and Looney can play big playoff roles for Championship team. If choice was to keep either Looney or Payton, doubt I would say Looney would be harder one to replace.
The only thing I really knew about the White Sox was through baseball cards. Never spent a lot of time on the American League. I always liked the Detroit Tigers though.
Nope. Lost Porter to the Raptors. GP II to the Jail Blazers
Otto Porter’s wife is from Toronto, so I’m assuming that played in his decision.
As they say a “Happy Wife is a Happy Life”
Toronto is an amazing city with a good run organization like the Warriors.
This is a big loss for the Warriors though, there gonna have to rely on the youngsters this season with GP2/Porter/probably Bjelica gone.Kuminga/Moody/Wiseman time to take a bigger role, Witherspoon gets time time too..
Funny KD wants out of Brooklyn. Wonder if he gets to Phoenix or Dallas. I’m sure he’s looking to move west again.
I want out of Brooklyn, too…
Lulz 😝
Early memory of ChiSox was Bill Melton winning AL HR crown with 33 in ’71, followed by Dick Allen’s MVP season in ’72 after his one-year stint in L.A. And Wilbur Wood winning 20+ and losing 20+ one season.
Remember LHP Gary Peters had a nice pitching career for Whitesox’s.Dude could hit too! A Madbum for his days with 19 career HR’s ..
Warriors resign Kevon Looney 3/25.5 deal..
Tony LaRussa can pound sand. I’d love to see Giants sweep.
The guy is in the HOF — tell me again how he had no clue anybody was ‘roiding in any of his clubhouses, particularly Canseco and Macgwire. Perfect example of the idiocy of the HOF — he’s in, Bonds out…
Selig is the bigger sellout, but yeah, but Mr. 0.12 can eat a bag of dicks as well.
I wonder if Phoenix is even interested in KD. Would be fun going up against his ass and siccing Draymond on him.
Pls. Durant would shoot and score over shorter Draymond with ease.
don’t get the hate Bay Area has for man who won MVPs and brought titles to his time with Warriors. Supremely talented player who played his best against the best. He left, so what? His personal insecurities are his biz, yet locals still calling him out and trashing the guy.
Agree, I don’t get the hate either.
This is a first: I just saw a commercial with Brandon Crawford for a Cue Health home Covid test, before Mets-Rangers on Apple TV.
1. LaMonte Wade Jr. (L) RF
2. Joc Pederson (L) LF
3. Wilmer Flores (R) 2B
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
5. Mike Yastrzemski (L) CF
6. Tommy La Stella (L) DH
7. Jason Vosler (L) 3B
8. Austin Wynns (R) C
9. Donovan Walton (L) SS
P: Alex Cobb (R)
ugly LU
DeSclafani back to IL per Slush, with Vosler called up.
Yeah few of the above should be in Sac at least.
Missing Grave Digger? Waitaminute. Vosler? WTAF? Longo down again?
It’s going to be a constant AARP unit all season long with the old guys and Z’s continuing use of options..
In one move for the pen that could happen soon ( who knows since he’s not on the 40 are eligible for now) is RJ Dabolich ( sp?) who was chosen by the Giants in the 2020 draft( same with Harrison) as a reliever and has been sensational moving up from AA squirrels to AAA Sac has a 99 mph FB and a hard break on his slider.
He faced 62 batters and K’d 36 while walking just 4 at Richmond, Giants like his control which is the main thing that gets u on the fastrack to the show. With the recent struggles of Littel,Leone,Brebbia, and Jolly Rodger&McGee any fresh arms would be welcome.Including Marte&Castro imo.
They also have this kid named Cole Waites, not ready yet, but supposedly has the best FB in the organization..
Agree, I don’t get the hate either.
Former Yankee Joe Pepitone is suing the Baseball HOF for not giving a bat back to him that he lent Mickey Mantle to use to hit his 500th HR.He told Mick at the time, ahh it’s got atleast one HR left in the bat!
The bat mysteriously ended up in the HOF and he wants it back,( plus it’s worth a shitload of money) Go getem Joe! Screw the HOF!!
My bad I guess Pepitone dropped his lawsuit against the HOF, probably too costly to fight a battle he would of lost 😠
Bases loaded.
No runs…
Bobby Bonilla Day today. The Mets have been paying Bonilla a million dollars every July 1st for decades, in the ultimate deferred payment deal.
NY should just give Bobby Bonilla a lifetime key to the city as well..
Hate to interrupt game-day convos, but quick thing to Kat: I need to schedule hip replacement surgery for next month. Trying to figure out timing for recovery, ability to get around, etc. Kat, you had a somewhat gruesome story about yours. Do you mind briefly recapping what I might expect for the first few weeks, month, etc.? Or anyone else having had hip replacement. Yep, I’m a glutton for punishment, with this thing nearly immediately following the inguinal hernia thing…. thanks in advance!
0-0 thru 3, you’re not interrupting much.
Yeah, figured I’d get that in now before the game becomes, you know, thrilling later on….
Loud contact this inning, with extra bases saved by Yaz.
That’s two this week by Yaz, at two different positions.
You figure these guys would be rested having 2 days off in 4 days, but they are fucking asleep.
7. Vosler
8. Wynns
9. Walton
10.WTF?
The battle to stay awake! The struggle is real, and I’m on the west coast.
lulz.
dunno how east coast does it.
Spaghetti-o can get 2 outs. He struggles here.
And on cue, he gives up a double.
Great move, Kap.
Fuck. Bore snore sore no-score core.
zzzz.
Belt is 2-27 and 0-17. What happened?
Age.
Bout time for a walk error and cheap ass run.
Slater nearly blew that.
AAAAAAAaaand there you go.
oh jeez that guy was hitting .196.
Giants get shut out 1-0 with their hottest hitter glued to the bench after a day off.
Do they have a hottest hitter?
Not anymore.
I noticed LaStella did not spit into his gloves on the last AB.
Not sure about the rest of the game.
I need to know why…
Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft
Garcia’s OPS coming into the game was .480. Slash line.193/.220/.260, in 180 ABs he had 35 hits all season. Hanging slider on full counts and there is your GWRBI.
Even Sox fans couldn’t believe it. One of them on twitter said, “Great, now he’ll be in the lineup every day.”
Kappy really has to stop pulling Pederson out of games in the 6th inning.
Doval, um has a problem despite 100+ fastball and slider at 86. These are splits for 2022 coming into last night
Vs. RH: .156/.202/.247
Vs.: LH: .296/.415/.477
who knew Loo’s 7:43 (bases loaded no runs) after first inning was gonna be game clincher?
A’s reject Kendall Graveman with the save, yuck.
Run of course was unearned because Doval dropped Belt’s throw. Gotta catch ball first then get to bag, yada yada.
26-28 since end of April, last time SF was in first.
Fellas– I forgot to throw up a new thread before I left for Reno. Will try to do it later tonight or tomorrow morning. Until then, we suck!
1. LaMonte Wade Jr. (L) RF
2. Mike Yastrzemski (L) CF
3. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
4. Joc Pederson (L) LF
5. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
6. Thairo Estrada (R) 2B
7. Tommy La Stella (L) DH
8. Donovan Walton (L) SS
9. Curt Casali (R) C
P: Logan Webb (R)
yesterday I said Flavor said, on July 1, 2022 at 4:27 pm (Edit)
ugly LU
and today’s looks only marginally better. When did we get such terrible hitters?
Yeah, Giants suck right now.
They’ve turned into the team feared most by ownership/management:
Boring…
When will Joc get pinch-hit for today?
Shea said Crawford was on field yesterday pregame workouts and should be able to come back when eligible Monday. So either Vosler or Walton go back to Sac.
He also said Will Wilson had hamate surgery and will miss 5-6 weeks.
No word yet on Gonzalez also about due to come off IL iirc.
Maybe Belt’s single last night will get him going. Btw May and June he was 12-64.
2020 and 2021 he had .590 slugging pct. This year it’s .366. OPS has gone from .975 to .707. Something is up. It’s his contract year too.
So they showed Damion Lee throwing out pitch last night and bouncing around on and off mound.
Then comes word today he’s signed 1 yr minimum deal with Suns.
Belt just has warning-track power lately. He takes some nice swings, but the ball just isn’t taking off from his bat.
And he seems to be reverting back to taking a lot of called third strikes again. Last season, he seemed to be more aggressive on those close pitches when he has two strikes.
With Belt and Craw reverting back to Bore Core status, and Posey gone, the season is in serious trouble.
Never mind the game and post game spread and/or chatter . . . I’m waiting breathlessly for ‘Kat’s hip replacement recovery story???
Best luck to Paul with his surgery. No idea about level of care there but I did have friends in Bay Area who would go to Taiwan for medical and dental issues. They were happy about lower costs/superior facilities.
Old friend had hip replacement years ago and is still going strong in his 80s and does daily bike ride.
That’s amazing about your friend’s recovery and activity.
The pregame show is heaping a lot of praise on Johnny Cueto. Cueto had one good season in six years for the Giants.
The Padres are doing their usual no-show vs. the Dodgers.
The give-away at the game today is a Wade bobblehead. I would’ve liked getting one of those.
Wow that’s nice to see!
LaStella did not spit into his batting gloves again today.
This has made the games much more watchable for me.
I’m waiting for K & K to address this as I am sure many fans are wondering about it…
I think the term “shut down inning” is being overused by Kuip.
Retiring the side in the top of the 2nd after getting 1 run in the bottom of the first doesn’t seem
like the time or the place for it. I think it was invented to be used later in the game in a more crucial spot.
Maybe I’m wrong…
I think your point is good. Sometimes K&K over-use some cliches in places that don’t really fit. A Flapper the other day mentioned that Krukow said a pitcher that finished with 6 innings had pitched “deep into the game.” It’s like expectations keep shrinking in the sport.
Thank you Zum – and congratulations on having a book dedicated to you which I just found out yesterday from Mr. Kokonuts. That’s a helluva nice tribute…
Yes, that was unexpected and very cool of Paulie. Super nice guy.
Women taught me the art of nitpicking…
The Red Sox closer refused to get vaccinated for Covid, and had to miss a recent series in Toronto because of Canadian restrictions. The replacement closer blew a game, and a lot of Red Sox fans are livid.
The U.S. hit a wall on Covid vaccinations with only 2/3 of the nation vaccinated. For herd immunity, the nation needed to get to over 90%. But it was probably predictable that about 1/3 wouldn’t do it.
That same 1/3 that won’t wear a mask are mostly the same ones that want to force my daughters, if they are impregnated by a rapist, to have no access to the morning after drug and then bring to term the rapist’s baby. They are completely nuts and dangerous, and at least 5 are on the Supreme Court…
On KNBR pregame this morning, quote of the day from Flemm:
“I believe in Darin Ruf”.
OMG…
Krukow calls any count with 2 strikes, a “2-strike count.” So if a guy gets a hit on a 3-2 pitch, he got a hit on a 2-strike count, as if the pitcher had some kind of advantage on the 3-2 count and blew it. A “2-strike count” should only apply to an 0-2 or 1-2 count, IMO.
My impression is that broadcasters use the phrase “2-strike count” in the context of a pitcher blowing an advantage in the count.
We agree a lot today, Zum!
C’mon Kruk, gotta make that play…
Whooops, Joc !
Giants D cratering again.
They desperately need young athletic OFers that can field, run and hit. No not Dugger, not Slater.
Are there ANY in the minors that are near ready?…
I don’t think so. Ramos isn’t really showing it yet.
Yikes.
The Padres will be losing to the Dodgers on the Fox game of the week today.
watching Giants, really miss horse racing at Del Mar and Santa Anita.
What’s really amazing is that Hollywood Park no longer exists…
Thanks that was great read.
You’re welcome!
Cease vs the deceased today.
Tangled Webb…
Who the phuck is Walton and why is he on the team?
The problem with the Giants is EZ to see — lack of position talent…
There’s another shutdown inning.
Not a lunch of punch in these Giant lineups….how long are they going to stay pat??? Oh yeah they got Mercedes and Calhoun. Problem solved.
