“So according to Grant Bisbee the Giants are dead last in walks drawn and yet top 4 in balls put in play which of course stinks with weak contact swinging at garbage pitches which of course leads to no runs.”

I’d say that when the offensive core of your team is 3 hitters whose value is derived from hitting with power and drawing lots of walks, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to impose a team wide put the ball in play hitting philosophy.

Like batting average with RISP, a low K percentage has no inherent connection to how good an offense is. There are some successful teams that do both well in any given season, but they are always offset by other equally successful teams that whiff a ton and/or don’t hit well with RISP. Both of these are the obsessions of discredited old school thinking and, unfortunately, that describes Buster “we need to balance the analytics” Posey. Bullshit. Put the nerds back in the front of the clubhouse now!!

Buster’s vaunted OBP depended on walks.

I wouldn’t overanalyze it. They probably just need a good old fashioned homo night in Woody’s shed…

I know it’s staring me right in the face but I still can’t believe we are this bad. I don’t think you can pinpoint blame when everything sucks.

  5. xoot's avatar xoot said, on April 15, 2026 at 8:27 am

Giants are close to last in ABS challenge success at 44%. Reds btw are tops at 70%. Maybe Bailey is still so deftly stealing strikes that it evens out …. Or maybe there’s a failure to plan and supervise.

Are as Strother Martin eloquently said.. In Cool Hand Luke

What we’ve got is a Faliure to Communicate!

This team used to take pitches in the past working good count advantage, now they’re hacking 1st count garbage the pitchers no this so no reason to throw a cookie in there..They are dead last in Runs scored,HR’s ,Walks etc..Nothing to get excited about that’s for sure!

  7. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on April 15, 2026 at 10:31 am

Of all the issues with this team, that is about 7th for why this season is tanking already.

Pitching, defense, base running, hitting, drafting, FA signings . . .

Devers, Adames, and Arraez are nice pieces to build off of. Chappie will hopefully keep his hitting going and avoid getting hurt his obligatory 6 weeks.

But Lee is proving to be a bust. Schmitt has promise if he can keep it up. Bader is entering negative territory in his BA. Ramos is once again completely clueless out there.

Then there’s the pitching. There’s no help in AAA for this pitching staff. AA? Not sure.

  8. xoot's avatar xoot said, on April 15, 2026 at 11:24 am

Jhonny Level sounds like the title of a 50s era noir knockoff. But he and a few other position players , Eldridge first in line, of course, show milb promise. Meanwhile, Whiz is top of the pitching posse on the way? Bresnahan? Tidwell is already here. Grim.

Yeah, I noted somewhere that our youngest pitcher in AAA is 25. Grim indeed.

At least SuSuSusac is starting tonight! And Drew (don’t call me Harry) Gilbert is starting in CF.

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on April 15, 2026 at 1:39 pm

And Will( don’t call me Walter) Brennan is starting in LF!

So Bader&Oliva go on the mysterious IL list ( lack of hitting like the whole team minus well what do you know Arreaz a 2 time batting champion)

Also for Unca Chuck their was a first baseman later a manager named Charles Grimm with a cool nickname “Jolly Cholly” lmaoooo..

haven’t been posting here much during games. Trying to ween myself off the Flap. Anyway, I was listening to KNBR on the way home and Mahle was on talking about how he’s a much better pitcher now than when he was with Cinn and he was excited to return to show off his new approach as a pitcher. LMFAO. We suck so badly, Buster was a great catcher but he doesn’t have a single goddamn clue how to put together a team

  21. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on April 15, 2026 at 4:11 pm

I really don’t get how they thought they did enough with this pitching staff. I mean, they had high hopes for Birdland as a starter but Mahle and Flopsie (whoever the fuck) are wet garbage. I was worried about Walker, but at least I knew who he is. The rest are just a bunch of scrubs found in the Brebbia aisle.

They had hopes for Ramos (fail)
They had hopes for Hung Loo Jee (fail)
They had hopes for Bailey (fail)
They went and got Arraez (great)
They went and got Bader (they sure did)

Buster built the team on a truckload of hopes and prayers. You know. An empty truck.

My only other question is how much of the issues are related to the reluctance to really go hard in free agency? Not giving Buster a pass, because there were plenty of guys who could hav helped that WOULDN’T break the bank, even guys we let go like Dom Smith, but it isn’t like we are cheaping out like Pittsburgh or Oaklamento.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on April 15, 2026 at 4:30 pm

exactly. And Dom Smith is RAKING in ATL. Don’t know what he cost but not signing him couldn’t have been a budget issue

    OK, the votes are in.

Susac has to take the #1 catcher spot. Has to, until and if proven otherwise.

F the “framing” crap, a catcher who can hit is friggin’ gold. Above anyone else, Posey should know that.

I think after that 2nd jack, Vitello figured the game was lost, so keep the Pen damage to a minimum for use the rest of the roadie. I’m kinda with him on that.

  26. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on April 15, 2026 at 4:31 pm

Uh, so far, this is what you call a S-show.

If this scheisse keeps up, the Giants will be in real danger of being effectively out of the playoffs by the end of the Flap, or by May 1, latest. I would welcome it, I think. it would demand a move to blow it all up, because this roster stinks like a Forest Service outhouse…

Tony V got the most possible of getting Mail in HAMMERED in a quick white flag game!

Nobody was fucking even warming up as Mail in delivers this line

    4 IP 8 Hits 8 ER’s 5 Walks 4 Bombs allowed ERA for season 7.36 yikes! 😳

And finallyTidwell gets up and chucks like 4 pitches to pitch the 5th?

And can Fleming just STFU with his usual fortune teller approach of :Well if the Giants can manufacture a few base runners and a Jack their right back in it! He does this shit every game and nothing happens, he’s so irritating to listen too!

  31. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on April 15, 2026 at 5:17 pm

Tyler Mahle is first Giants pitcher since at least 1901 to allow 4+ HRs, 5+ walks while pitching 4 innings or fewer in a game.

1901? Let that sink in for a minute or so . . .

  32. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on April 15, 2026 at 5:17 pm

Giants doing the usual, tried and true belly-up performance against a rookie pitcher they’ve not seen. But, it’s also pretty much the same thing they’ve been doing against most pitchers so far. I heard on KNBR some stat that they’ve scored 2 runs or less in all but 2 of their losses so far. How is that even possible? Sub-in the River Cats roster and likely they would do no worse. Vitello is going to catch hell for this, but it’s not much or at all his fault. Buster and Minasian have handed him a crap sandwich. He’s gotta be wondering whyinhell he left fame and fortune at Tennessee for this. Boch at his best could not manage his way out of this dumpster fire.

You can compare the stats on Sal Stewart, the Reds rookie 1bman who is raking so far this season and tonight, with Eldridge. Pretty comparable. Edlridge is running about 200 ABs short in the minors. Stewart has clearly a lower K rate. Stewart is about a year older. Given the situation at hand, I see no reason why they should keep Eldridge down in Sac much longer. If they start talking possible damage to his “psyche” if he flubs, I’m going to stop listening.

as snarkk said earlier, we could swap out the RCs for the Giants lineup and it wouldn’t be any worse. We, literally, cannot get any worse. We cannot fall any farther down the MLB ranks. This is it, it’s happened: 30th place. Fuk Me! And, add to the fact that the FLAP is disappearing in 5 days … wow … it’s weird … feels like things are just gonna get foggier & foggier … the whole world seems quite blurry at the moment.

Being able to commiserate and exchange candid sometimes sarcastic messages with everyone about state of our team certainly better than each of us venting in private. If blog does close down in five days, I hope there is some platform we can transition to.

Does Buster know what he’s doing. Good question. He’s had, what, 2 years now?, and in that time, I have appreciated his penchant for making bold moves that seemed to be part of a plan. I agreed with his signing of Chappie to start building an enduring team, also agreed with signing Adames, and I loved that he pulled the trigger on the Devers trade (although even I will admit perhaps the jury is still out on that one). I also really liked the signings of Bader and Arraez (although Bader looks hopelessly lost). On paper, the offense/defense looked good; the hitters not hitting is on them (and/or the coaches), not Buster. But obviously the pitching is where the offseason became a big Fail, almost like ownership told Buster, nah, don’t bother spending on pitching, you did fine on the position players. I have a hard time believing that Buster thought they really were “good to go” in the pitching department. No idea what they do and where they go from here. Another bold move or two? Why not. Do f-ing something….

    • bassbaldy's avatar bassbaldy said, on April 15, 2026 at 6:51 pm

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on April 15, 2026 at 7:01 pm

I have had this almost exact position too Paul, particularly with Buster. I don’t think he is at fault. He definitely is NOT stupid. He was the “field general” on our 3 WS teams and KNOWS GOD DAMN FUCKING PITCHING LIKE NO ONE ELSE! Come on! Buster knows baseball and what it takes to win.

Not going to try to find my post where it’s irrefutable that today’s Giants are not spending as much money on a % revenue basis versus our championship teams. Coupled with Johnson’s “breaking even” comments, I will always blame ownership for this fiasco, that’s easily going on almost a decade, with the exception of the “unicorn” season of 2021.

  44. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on April 15, 2026 at 6:55 pm
