A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Why The Flap Dominates In Other Blogs Faces

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 22, 2014

The thing I used to loved about this blog is still the thing I love most about this blog. Yesterday, Zumiee makes a random, innocuous comment about hitting up A&W for lunch before the Giants game:

zumiee said, on July 21, 2014 at 3:23 pm (Edit)

Today I had lunch at one of the original old A&W places, from back when car-hops brought things out to the car. I had root beer in a cold glass mug. Good times.
Now I’m ready for some BASEBALL!

And then, despite a game going on (and a good one at that) the rest of the Flap community bobs and weaves through the baseball related thread with personal stories about burgers and best places to eat, and such. Finally, as the blog was shutting itself down, San Dawg tied it all together with an epic POTD. That one had it all, didn’t it? Sports played, lessons learned, childhood memories, humor and even a “bad ass” reference. It probably had other things, too. And then freaking Loo goes over the top of Diggity’s epic post with some cherry finality that had me laughing out loud this morning…..

So thanks to all of you guys who make this blog the BEST San Francisco Giants blog anywhere on the internet…..

The Giants beat down big, bad Cliff Lee and tonight we get to face the dude of a thousand names. I always thought it was awesome that when Roberto Hernandez decided to fake his birth certificate to de-age himself he went with “Fausto Carmona”. You gotta have some flair and a little bit of ballsy stupidity to enter the US with a made up name like that. He probably figured that if the baseball gig didn’t work out he could get a job working as a magician at the circus. “The Great Fausto!”. Yes, I know I’ve said that before. I continue to amuse myself. Carry on.

    Affeldt dealing, 2 nice innings.
    Score here bring in Casilla.

Blade the AW I referred to in sunnyvale was on el Camino btw Grape (big carwash) and So. Mary, where we lived. We’d hit that one after playing b-ball at Washington Park, where lights went out at 10 PM sharp. You’d get a warning about 5-10 minutes, then boom total darkness. Car hops in that one too.
I remember the one you mentioned, it lasted longer I think…near Arques?

Nice hit, Adrianza. Just slap that thing to leftfield.

Too bad Sando crushed one. One thing about Headley going to Yanks would be that likely eliminates them from throwing big money after Sandoval as FA.

I never noticed before that the relievers in this ballpark have to walk down a flight of stairs from the bullpen to get onto the field. That’s unique.

The beef that people have with Blanco is that last swing. Swinging like Juan Uribe on that one. That shouldn’t be Blanco’s game.

  11. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 22, 2014 at 8:44 pm

It wouldn’t hurt Crawford to shorten his swing more often, too. He and Blanco have such big swings. Unless they change that, they’re always going to be .235 hitters.

I bet Flan does. I heard this great story about Flan and his wife being with Dave Groeschner and his wife and they all got locked in the stairwell in Philly during the 2010 playoffs. Flan was playing his guitar and singing because he liked the acoustics in the stairwell, so they had some wine and had a bit of a party going on and somehow they got locked in. Timmy came by, opened the door and said “will you old people please go to bed?”

Little league practice on a fried Central Valley summer afternoon followed by a frosty mug of A&W was the bomb for me. The occasional root beer float, wow, what was better than that? Hand in hand stuff, great memories.
Heading out early tomorrow morning for some salmon fishing off the Vancouver Island west coast, hope we get a few. Hell, hope we get a lot. Maybe some halibut, too.

I guess it came out that way. Since Tim prefers Hector as his catcher and he was relieving I’m glad Hector was catching, but normally I’m happy when he’s on the bench. Hmmm, I guess that didn’t come any out softer.
