A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

NL Wins

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 12, 2023

That was a fun game to watch. Definitely entertaining. And our 2 reps performed admirably. The one thing that ruined it were the uniforms. I’d love to hear the argument for those. It can’t be marketing. There is NO WAY any sane person would buy one of those for themselves.

Players playing the game in their home uni is the only acceptable look and I want to know why this changed.

All Star Game

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 11, 2023

There were some moments in the Bomb Derby last night that were captivating but that event misses the mark in a lot of ways. Adley Rutschman, the great young catcher from Baltimore, turned around and starting hitting right handed and banged out 6 of the 8 pitches he saw–and that’s after hitting 20 or so left handed. But then he was instantly eliminated by Robert. Though I didn’t bet him I really wanted to see him hit again.

The other problem is that you really don’t see any of the bombs leave the park. The hitter doesn’t even see them he’s too busy loading up for the next pitch.

I made money on it and that was fun but as Zumiee said on the last thread, if you aren’t gambling on it then it’s probably not going to keep your interest.

Who’s watching the game tonight? I personally think this game started to get ruined when they stopped having the players wear their home jersey’s.

A Man Pitched Yesterday

Flavor said, on July 8, 2023 at 7:13 am (Edit)

I don’t even care what the record is. I just hate it. It’s pussy baseball. Give me a starter who can pitch all game. That’s the baseball I miss. All this namby pamby 1 inning bullshit is lame.

And as if the baseball Gods were listening, I was given yesterday’s gift.

Thank you, baseball Gods.

What a way to hit the break.

Openers

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 9, 2023

Solid win against a shitty opponent. I haven’t checked this, but it seems like our opener ususally just *opens a can of worms for the guy following him. Gimmicky bullshit is what it is.

This break couldn’t come soon enough for me.

The Rockies LOL

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 8, 2023

Limping, lumbering, flailing…..you pick the word for how we are heading into the all star break. Colorado is terrible, especially away from that joke park they play in.

Oh well, it’s baseball, there are going to be a lot of losses like this one over the course of the season.

Opener again today. It’s such a half-assed way to play baseball, isn’t it? This isn’t baseball.

Openers For As Far As The Eyes Can See

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 7, 2023

Slowly lumbering into the all star break, it’ll be interesting to see if Kap goes opener back to back in this series. Stripless going tonight but it’s anyone’s guess for how long. Then the dreaded *undecided for Saturday with Webb finishing off the first half.

Trade deadline not till August 1 so there’s still time to keep winning and inspire Farhan to make some moves to allow us the possibility of post season play.

Shutout

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 6, 2023

Corn on Cobb showed up big time exactly when we needed him. Now he’s just gotta do that for 13-14 more starts. Straight. Well, kidding. Sort of.

If was great hangin’ out with this dude on the 4th.

USA USA!!!!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 4, 2023

Well, at least we have the perfect antitdote for that terrible game: July 4th. The greatest of all the holidays. I’m not overly patriotic. I’d say I’m properly patriotic. But I just love everything about this day, man. And today is fun because The Great San Dawg and I have managed to schedule a golf game. We’ll probably be coming off the course during the last couple of innings of the game. So GO GIANTS! But a day like Independence Day is about so much more than just a baseball game.

Enjoy this awesome day however you choose. Just make sure you appreciate it and the country we live in.

Frustrating Game

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 3, 2023

It’s too bad we had to play like that on a nationally televised game. I still don’t understand wtf Matos was doing on either one of those plays in the outfield. Quick trip home to play Seattle who we should beat but this is a lot of travel with no days off. Worried about the game tonight.

We got Doval through and no one else to the All Star game. That isn’t a surprise at all since most of our hitters, who might have some borderline all star numbers, don’t get any national attention at all. Playing like crap last night isn’t likely to change that.

Disco Must Stop

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 2, 2023

The Giants seem to have the opener thing clicking. Twice a week. Webb is reliable as a starter. After that? Winn is next most reliable? That cannot stand. It’s another day that ends in Y which means we have another pic of Flap HOFers to post. Flap Nation spans the globe. Looks like Mac’s hat has seen some shit.

And beyond…..

New York

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 1, 2023

Loo represented with his resplendent hair and we got a very nice comeback W. I understand Mac is hunting for tickets as we speak. Would be great to get a pic of both of them today.

I missed the game with a migraine. Still have it. Glad to get it now and not when San Dawg arrives for our golf game.

Blake’s Mistakes

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 30, 2023

I’m still ok with his steal try yesterday. I guess he could have waited till there was 1 out but he needed to get into scoring position. And it really was a great pitch to steal on it’s just the worst luck in the world that a shitty throw tails right into his slide zone.

Whatever, it was a mistake because it didn’t work out but it wasn’t even in the ballpark of the stupid thing he did running the Giants out of the game the other day.

Blake is still my boy, I’m ridin’ with him.

SF Loses 6-1

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 29, 2023

Well, that one just didn’t work out. Can’t win em all. Thanks to the fellas who gave Stix some ideas on how he can access The Flap. I sent all of your ideas to him. Clearing out the cache seemed like the best one to me.

If Stripless is ever gonna pitch a good game how bout it be against his former team……

update: ******now they are reporting it’s gonna be Winn not Stripless.

Nice Win, eh?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 28, 2023

Didn’t even have to come back for that win. Toronto piled up the K’s and we just steamrolled them. I have never really understood the Vlad G thing. Just solely from watching his at bats. He flails at everything (at least when I’m watching him). Walker pitched Belt masterfully in the first inning.

Tonight, Webby…..

Canada

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 27, 2023

Gausman right out the gate. This is going to be a tough hill to climb.

But all this team does is surprise me.

Belt having a very pedestrian year, only played in 51 of 79 games, 15 mill a year for that.

Tough Loss

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 26, 2023

Well, it’s impossible to complain about the state of the Giants right now. I will even refrain from criticizing my main man Sabol for one of the stupidest baserunning mistakes I’ve seen in a while. None of the excuses make any sense and I listened to his explanation as well as Kap’s. Even if you have your “head down” as you round 2nd, when your head comes up and you look to 3rd base coach for guidance you would also see your comrade Davis standing on 3rd base–your ultimate destination.

But Sabol has contributed mightily to wins this season so I am going to just let that go…..

A day off today before we visit our old *friend Brandon Belt in Toronto.

Another Comeback Win

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 25, 2023

I forget what year it was but it wasn’t all that long ago. Maybe 2018 or 2019? Whenever the opposing team would score first, even if was just a run or two in the first inning a Flapper would just respond with “Game over.”

LOL those days are long gone, aye?

It is so refreshing to have a team that doesn’t quit when they’re down. A team that can mount a comeback. A team that never thinks it’s over.

As a fan what more could you ask for from your guys?

________________________________________________________________________

Ok gents, we have a toe update. My buddy Chris flew to Florida to go to their timeshare. At the request of his wife who feared retaliation at the beach by angry rednecks he took off the nail polish. But because he is superstitious and as a silent protest he left one remaining toe painted. However if the Giants go into a tailspin starting today I am blaming Rachel for it…..

Taming The Dirty Snakes

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 24, 2023

11/12. #nottooshabby.

It’s undeniable how much grit this team has. They constantly come back when they’re down. Patty Bails has just been a revelation. And today, even going with yet another stupid opener I’m not even bummed cause I like this new kid Winn who is going to get the bulk of the innings.

This season has been a lot of fun so far.

10/11 Sounds Pretty Good To Me

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 23, 2023

I talked to Chris and he confirmed that painting his nails was going too far even for him. So, the 10 game win streak had to end. At least it was quick. That one was over almost immediately. Huge crowd though. Will be interesting to see if they can keep that up this weekend against first place AZ.

Another One

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 22, 2023

10 toes. 10 wins. I’m just sayin’…..

Chris is gonna gave to start painting his fingers too if we want to keep this winning streak going.

Only The Toes Knows

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 21, 2023

So my buddy Chris paints his toes like a woman and we have two *walk* off wins in a row? Can’t walk without toes, can you? Is this a coincidence? Or are particles being sprinkled on the fortune of this season?

Nine (9!) in a row…….

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 20, 2023

My buddy Chris had a pedicure done yesterday. Got his toes painted. Said he did it to support the team. Anyway it was a source of contention between us most of the day as I feel that painting toes should be something the ladies do. But I must say, this video is pretty fantastic.

***update*** of course i can’t get the video to load. I’ll work on it later today. It’s epic.

here’s the video in all it’s glory.

Well, it wasn’t quite the drubbing that we leveled upon them Saturday but 7-3 is still a solid ass kicking. I think that most be the satisfying series we have ever played vs LA. I know we’ve swept their sorry asses before but this was done in truly spectacular fashion. Game 1 we break up a no hitter and come back to beat them. Game 2 we engage in full throttle drubbing. Game 3 we just wax their asses with the game never in doubt.

And the kicker: we did all in front of their loser fans.

Just an incredible weekend for Giants baseball. DennisZ sent me this.

Bam! Drubbed!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 18, 2023

A 15-0 drubbing. That’s a fabulous word, isn’t it? Top 15 word of all time, for sure. I also like the word “trousers”. Say it enough times repeatedly, you’ll see what I mean.

Anyway, that was a DRUBBING! A complete and total anhililation. Utterly anihilated. And it couldn’t happen to a shittier team or organization. I would have loved to have been a fly on the parking lot last night as those loser baby blue’d up fans wandered off into the night…….

Candlestick

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 17, 2023

Got this email yesterday. I’m guessing lots of you guys would like to contribute to this:

Hi,

I am the editor for a new book about Candlestick Park, which will be the latest in McFarland Publishing’s Historic Ballparks series.

We are soliciting personal memories of the park from fans (plus media, team employees, and former players, too) for possible inclusion in the book.  It looks like you have a pretty thriving community going at OneFlapDown77, and probably a lot of people who would have some good memories to share.

We have created a very simple website where we can collect these memories.  Is there a way I can share that with the people who post on your site

Here is the address for our site:

https://www.candlestickparkmemories.com/

Happy to answer any questions you might have.

Thank you very much,

Golf And Baseball

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 16, 2023

Well giddythefuckup. We got an electric series beginning in LA tonight with what appears to be both teams going with….openers. Lol, whatever. It’s a huge series and a good measuring stick for who this team is.

I’m glad it’s a night game because my eyes are transfixed on the US Open. I love every single one of these holes. It was high time those stuffed shirts at the LACC let the Open be played on their magnificent course. I wonder if San Dawg is making the drive over to walk that bitch and watch a round. I know I would.

Full Steam Ahead Into LA

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 15, 2023

Somebody mentioned 2021 as being a similar team. Maybe in terms of their grit and their effort. But that team was propelled by Buster Posey’s resurgence as well as Craw and Belt. This team is being fueled by youth. it’s middle of June and we are 2.5 games AHEAD of the Pads and only 2 behind LA. That blows my mind. Similarly, my mind was blown by the 2021 team.

Nice, relaxing travel day before an electric series in LA not to mention the US Open. That course sounds so exciting and unusual, it would be fun to walk it this weekend.

The Great Cardinal Fan Daniel Weighs In

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 14, 2023

Hey guys– late to the party today. Here’s a response our good friend Daniel gave via email earlier this morning.

Daniel Shoptaw7:37 AM (4 hours ago)
to me

Craig,

Hey!  Good to hear from you.  Thanks for your kind words.  The kids are scattered right now so I’m holding down the fort until they get back in a few days.

The crowd was booing last night and they did back in April as well, mainly out of frustration.  A lot of that frustration is born out of not having a clue why things are so bad.  This offense is supposed to be stacked but has struggled.  The run differential is somewhat skewed because they’re 7-16 in one run games and 9-7 when the score is decided by 5 or more.  Then when a little momentum occurs, like they win a couple of games, the pitching goes to pot.  About the time you trust that someone is bouncing back into form, they hit a pothole, much like Flaherty did last night after a run of good outings.

They are hitting only .254/.334/.466 with runners in scoring position and .175/.226/.316 with the bases loaded.  Contreras had a good week or two after the whole blowup about removing him from the catcher spot but overall has been a disappointment to this point.  Nolan Arenado has taken a bit of a step back or at least been very streaky instead of consistent like he was last year.  The starting outfield has been completely different than planned most of the year due to injuries.

About the only thing that isn’t wrong with this team is Paul Goldschmidt.  I know y’all understand how he is.

They Never Give Up

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 13, 2023

That was a great win. I am convinced this is a .500 team as currently constructed but it’s an .800 team when it comes to effort. They just keep coming at you.

Cobb Salad night.

Cubs Don’t Win

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 12, 2023

Well that was one way to shake out of a funk. And Kudos to Crawford who actually looked like a pitcher out there. I’m so tired of the guys who want a pitching line who go out there throwing lolly pops.

Off the St. Louis. What kind of homestand was that?

Yucky Series So Far

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 11, 2023

Just an underwhelming performance. Not much else to say. We are a .500 team, that much is clear. Just hoping Farhan does something at the break, and maybe we get some help from a young stud in the farm system, to sneak us into the post season….

Pffffttttt…..

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 10, 2023

Just kind of a dud of a game. Those can happen after leaving Coors Field and coming back to our more normal climate. I expect today to be a different story but oh lookie here another goddamn opener bullpen bullshit game. I hate these.

Busy Weekend

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 9, 2023

With smoke clearing out of NY we should be all systems go for the Belmont on Saturday. It’s a great card, too. And with the Giants back in SF we have a lot of action to keep track of this weekend. I’m always leery of first game back from Colorado especially in our yard. Stroman could have an easy time with us tonight. But the Cubs are pretty beatable and this team is flying HIGH right now on moxie, focus and intrigue, too. We are in for an exciting summer of baseball in the Bay, my friends.

Smoke

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 8, 2023

Impressive start to a series in the worst place on the planet to play baseball (aside from Mexico City). Loo, give me a Flap Man on the Scene take of the smoke in NY. Will we or won’t we have a Belmont Stakes this Saturday?

Stupid Bullpen Game Nonsense

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 6, 2023

We are headed to Colorado and we are starting with…..an opener? Why are we doing a bullpen game to start a series in a place where we will need to rely on the bullpen heavily just to get through the regular starter games? We’ve had 2 days off in the last week. Kap couldn’t line up the starters better than this? It’s just idiotic.

Humm Baby Bye Bye

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 5, 2023

I remember when Roger Craig started managing for the Giants in ’85. At the time, I thought “this guy is old.” LOL. I was in high school back then. I don’t know if it was cause I’d never heard of him or maybe he just didn’t have the strongest vibe but I was down on the hire. Oh how wrong I was.

To this day, if you’re in the right spot, you can still hear people in the Bay Area belt out a “Humm Baby”. The KNBR morning guy manages his kid’s team and they’re called “The Humm Babies”. Craig changed the culture of that team and his infectious positivity impacted the entire fanbase. He gave us a reason to be hopeful. And even though he never won a World Series for us he showed us how to win. And winning felt so good! Remember those teams?

“You’re gotta like these kids!” was the slogan and it fit. Today I don’t even know what our slogan is. It’s utterly forgettable. “Giants baseball. Nothing like it.” I had to look that up.

I loved Roger Craig and was sad to hear of his passing.

Disco Sunday

Not sure why he and Cobb flip flopped but that’s what happened. Loo put the call out for Mr. Ed to pick it up and he did so with 3 hits. Let’s see who he casts his gaze to today.

Day off today before a very exciting series with Baltimore. The Orioles have a lot of young, exciting talent. Should be a fun weekend of baseball.

We Like These Kids

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 30, 2023

I knew the Pirates were overrated but that was just too easy. Patty Bails sliding into fan favoritism. And Schmitt right behind him. FINALLY we have some young guys coming up. This team has trended away from boring and I couldn’t be more excited.

Memorial Day

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 29, 2023

Only 11 games today? How can it be Memorial Day and some teams aren’t playing? That’s a pretty big swing and a miss by MLB.

It’s 2023 and Rich Freaking Hill is starting today. How is that possible? He’s gotta be closing in on 50.

Back at home, we should make short work of the Pirates who I never thought were really any good this year despite their fast start.

Annihilation in Milwaukee

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 27, 2023

Don’t look now bitches, but at 8-2 for our last 10 we are the hottest team in the league. I missed a lot of the game, did Milwaukee really lead off Darin Ruf? Could they possibly be that bad?

Great match up today with Webby vs Burnsey

Bullpen Win

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 26, 2023

Great win using a lot of pitchers. Hopefully Wood gets his wish now and gets to go further than 5. I wonder if Kap set this up that way? We know Wood is tired of getting pulled early.

Wanna pitch longer? Pitch better.

Peralta doesn’t seem to be the same guy, let’s roast him.

Shake It Off

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 25, 2023

Expected a dud on get-a-way day and it delivered with a thud. We will be doing our typical opener bullshit today in Milwaukee though it appears that Webb is to follow because of his back? What’s an inning or two of an opener gonna do for Webb’s back?

I still play wordle every day and love it. 5-6 minutes max? I got the time.

Hey, speaking of Milwaukee (because that’s where the Kuiper’s are from) what’s everyone’s take on Glen Kuiper being fired for his use of the N word during a game a couple of weeks ago? I watched that clip several times and he clearly just fumbled his words into the worst possible word he could possibly say in the situation. I supported him getting fired because you just can’t have that happen. But let’s not forget that he went to the museum in the first place to honor the players there and to learn more about it. And he was clearly trying to say something positive about the experience of the museum.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say I feel bad for him cause I’ve always thought he was a pretty underwhelming announcer and he won’t be missed. But that word doesn’t come out of your mouth by accident. Although this was clearly an accident.

Thoughts?

Here’s the other thing to remember: While I think we are all 100% fine with not getting Correa, though we can all feel differently about the process, it’s comforting to know we have Schmitt to take over when Crawford gets hurt again or just rides off into the sunset at the end of this season.

Between adding Schmitt and Bailey our defense has improved exponentially and it’s hard not to notice the results in the win column.

Great Win

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 22, 2023

That was not only a good win but it was a fun one to listen to. I caught almost all of it on the radio and I must say Kuip has a renewed sense of enthusiasm in his voice. I don’t know if it’s that he has finally recovered from his throat issue or maybe he’s just sensing this is the twilight and he needs to go out with a bang. Who knows.

Now let’s shut Correa the hell down…..
